How to determine work process utilization ?

Hello,
SAP Release : Netweaver 04 (BW 3.5)
Every night we have many jobs that running, extracting data from different source systems.
In the near future, we are planning to add much more extractions.
As we only have one central instance (no other application server), I would like to know
if our system would be able to take in charge more jobs.
Is there a way to know how often are used our processes (batch and dialog) ?
How to know if we still have workprocess that are unused every night ?

THere is some very valuable information in ST03N if you can sift thru the vast amount of information.
Using SM50 to review the work process times is good as well.
Keep in mind that with BW you need a comparable amount of dialogs process to background jobs 3xBackground = 1xDialog approximately.
Using Solution Manager to get an Early watch report is very practical and complete report.

How to determine the process alias using condition technique in Transportation & Shipment Scheudling?

I am trying to use the functionality Transportation and Shipment Scheduling in GATP.
I would like to know that how the sytem determines the process alias using condition technique in Transportation & Shipment Scheudling?
As the Transportation & Shipment Scheduling functionality can be extended further by using the configurable process to overcome the complex scenario. But it needs that process alias should not be determined by using the condition technique.
Moreover, is it possible to use both functionality simultaneously in the system. i.e. Transportation and Shipment Scheduling using condition technique and Transportation and Shipment Scheduling using configurable process?

Yes, depending on your customizing you can use both scheduling methods in parallel. e.g. you activate CPS just for a specific ITEM category or product and/or customer and/or....what ever you want.

Hi,
You can terminate. Please look into the menu given by DPMON carefully. You can kill the process using the k option.
Otherwise you can also kill the process kill -9 <PID of the process>.
Please do not terminate update and ENQ work process. This may lead to data loss. If the condition can not be control by killing some processes and again all the WPs are occupied. I recommend SAP system restart.
Restart will ensure that all necessary roll backs happen and no data loss.

How to switch how to switch Work process from request type DIA to BTC.

We have problem in our sap sytem,When we try to log in to the sytem it throughd the abap dump
START_CALL_SICK, "no application server offers an BTC service".in sm50 it shows only dialoge workprocess and no backgroung workprocss are present.When i checked the corresponding profile parameter for BGD it is fine.
Please help me in solving the problem.Can i Manually switch the Work process from request type DIA to BTC.If so please let me know the tcode and the proceedure in detail.I am new to basis.

Hi,
It can be the reason that you or another person would have changed the profile parameters to include background processes, but not restarted the system
Check the following
1. Latest date and time of when the profile file was changed
2. Latest Restart of the System
3. Latest date and time of when Dialog, BTC process was changed
May be this will give you some clue

How to determine which processes are using a module?

I want to find out which processes are using a kernel module.
However this info is shown neither with ``lsmod'' nor in
/sys/modules/<mod_name>/.
It's needed to reload certain modules which are acting buggy,
in a bash script. Right now I just keep a list of processes which
use the module and try to kill'em all, not exactly a beautiful
solution.
To work around it I compiled a kernel with
``CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD=y'', however actually
trying to unload anything with this results in an unstable system.
Suggestions?

After successfully syncing the configuration database I ran the configuration compliance job once more, however with the same (misleading) results. Cross-checking the configuration reveals that none of the devices marked as compliant are actually having the "ip helper-address" configured.
Maybe it is something wrong with the input data I specified for the compliance template (ref step 1-6 in my first post)?
Or maybe the Compliance Jobs arent the best ways to determine whether or not my devices are having the "ip helper-address" configuration defined?

How to determine endpoint bandwith utilization

I occasionally see large amounts of traffic saturating WAN links between a centrally located WLC and any one of several remote access points. Most of the traffic on the remote APs is locally switched (flexconnect) but there are a couple of SSIDs that are centrally switched (e.g. guest). My tools just show the traffic between the AP and the WLC. .How can I drill down and determine which endpoint is consuming that bandwidth?

Probably you have to get WLC netflow data to see what traffic is it.
From WLC 7.4 code onward this feature supported & below post may give some reference

Working with multiple spool work process

We have around 2500 spool request generated every day on an average.we had only 1 spool work process,last week we increased it by 1 and now 2 spool work process there in the system
But we are not getting any help from second spool work process as all spool request are handled by any one at a time and other w/p is in waiting mode.
Is there any way to make both work process work together within sap policy of "Printu2013inu2013orderu2013ofu2013generation"
I created new output device hoping that spool request created for this will go to other but no help

Update Work Process - Different value in SM51 & TU02...which is correct?

i am checking update work process configured in the system.
In SM51, i am getting 36 update work process but when i checked it through transaction
TU02 -> Active parameter, i found the parameter rdisp/wp_no_vb value is 16.
Am surprised to see the different value at different place, how its possible.
which is true, how many update work process is configured in the system?

How many work processes are recommended by SAP for 16 GB RAM ?

This is the calculation for determining the number of work process according to the available memory for the system.
- Number of dialog work processes = RAM/256 (min 2, max 18)
- Number of update work processes = RAM/768 (min 1, max 6)
- Number of update2 work processes = RAM/1024 (min 1, max 3)
- Number of batch work processes = RAM/1024 (min 2, max 3)
- Number of enqueue work processes = 1
- Number of spool work processes = 1

How many work processes should be configured in ERP?

Hey guys I'm installing ERP 6.0 on a system landscape on AIX 6.1 and Oracle 10.2.0.4.
I wish I had an idea of what is best practice to determine how many work processes can be configured in an instance ?
I give the example of the Quality server:
Only a Central Intance
Number of Users to Log On: 120
Physical Memory: 12 GB
Swap Space: 38 GB

Hello,
Refer to SAP Note 9942 for maximum number of work process.
Regarding what would be optimal setting in your system, there is no clear cut solution. You have set it first based on your guess for amount of dialog activity, batch jobs etc.
Typically, you should have dialog process double than background processes. Simillary, background process should be double than update, update should be double than update2 and total should not cross more than what mentioned in above Note for your Operating system and SAP release.
Then you keep checking the system any bottleneck for a week or two and accordingly adjust the work processes if required.

How to find out number of background work processe available in the system?

I have a FM that triggers a background job using JOB_OPEN, ABAP_SUBMIT and JOB_CLOSE. But the problem is if there are no background work processes available at that moment, it does not return error. Not sure whether the job is even scheduled!
Is there a way to find out if there are any background work processes available in the system? I know a FM SPBT_INITIALIZE which gives info about dialog work processes. Is there any other FM similar to this which gives info about background wp??

your Job will remain in a queue by message handler. once workprocess is free, your job gets scheduled
by the way, you can use the functionality used in FM TH_DISPLAY_WORKPROCESS_LIST to read the workprocesses
the command which gets you the workprocess is:
CALL 'ThWpInfo' ID 'OPCODE' FIELD OPCODE_WP_LIST
ID 'TAB' FIELD LIST_STATE_WPLST-TABL
ID 'CPU' FIELD LIST_STATE_WPLST-CPU.
check how its written in include LSDEBF01, form SET_LIST_WPLST

How to determine the total process size of the JVM process (that includes Heap, Non Heap and Native memory)?
Is there any command to obtain this value on Solaris (for Sun JVM)?

Make sure that Total Heap + Native memory will be consider as total Memory.
That means in 32 bit you will have only at most 4 GB for process + additional 2 GB for OS.
So let assume if you have 4GM RAM then out of the 4GB you can allocate 2GB as Heap and 512m as Perm in case of Hot spot and remaining will be consider as Native memory.
But in case of 64 bit will change you will have good amount of the memory so you can use plenty of Heap and Perm size.
