How to download data to Excel sheet

Hi ,
I want to modify a standard program CRM_MKTBP_ATTR_HISTORY in CRM,
which is displaying business partner details with attribute value old attribute value and changed by, so they want to display all the details in excel sheet then they excutive this prog it shuld ne downloaded to excel sheet.
here prog is in object oriented abap i am not able to trace final interal table.
but in class CL_GUI_ALV_GRID there is a method called EXPORT_TO_SPREAD_SHEET.
can any body help me in this.

    I have to upload the data from an excel sheet present in the local system(not on the server) to the table using webdynpro.
    i donot want to upload the excel file
    if it is necessary to upload the file then it should be on temporary basis and it should be deleted automatically.
    i can get the data from excel sheet which is present in the km using HSSF api but how to do the same if it is in local system?
    if anyone has the sample application of this type please give me the link.

    Hi Vijay,
    Please open Microsoft Excel from your system and then create some entries (ex. having 3 columns and 3 rows). Save this file to some location in your system. Later you will need to give the location path of this saved file when uploading it from your web dynpro application.
    Creating of an Excel file (i.e the 4th step) is no where related to Web Dynpro and NWDS.

    Hi Rajesh,
    I understood your requirement as from ALV you want to download the data to an Excel sheet.
    In standard ALVs, you need to do this
    In other cases like Z programs etc, often Icon is provided  (as you said) like this
    You need to select Local File option here as shown below
    In both case you will get this pop-up
    Now when you continue you will get SAVE dialog-box, where you can give a name to your excel file and Save.

    Yes.my suggestion is you set each report design analysis page itself(just to -->edit analysis-->look at the table propeties -->here u can set it how ever you want(50 rows, 500 rows etc..analysis visible page) to show/download it as per your requirment.
    Changing instance confic will affect entire report.for controling this you can set dashboard/prompt filter then you control data downloading.

    Just FYI:If you have bulk volum of data like more than 8MB then you have increase the download size
    steps configure bulk volumn data more than 8MB:
    go to you bi installed drive \oracle\instances\instance1\config\OracleBIJavaHostComponent\coreapplication_obijh1\
    2. Open config.xml file in an editor and search for the below lines
    <XMLP> <InputStreamLimitInKB>8192</InputStreamLimitInKB>
    <ReadRequestBeforeProcessing>true</ReadRequestBeforeProcessing> </XMLP>
    3. The default size is 8 MB, you can increase to the size you want. If you want to set unlimited, then replace 8192 with 0 (zero) but it’s not recommended (performance may impact) then Restart BI Service and test .

    I have be assigned a task where i have to find out all the reports and the variants containing a ' / '. I have written the code where i am able to scan through the entire list and get a set of reports and the variantsin the internal table. NOW i have to run the code in the background and the entire set of reports and the variants in the internal table to the excel sheet . So how do I do this? I am able to get the data in the excel sheet from the foreground using the FM GUI_download. But this FM does not work in the background.
    So what should be the ideal way to do this ?

    OPEN DATASET dataset FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT.

    I am trying to download a date field from SAP to Excel sheet. But the date is getting downloaded successfully, but the format of the column is getting changed to DATE. Is there any way to restrict it?
    I am using GUI_DOWNLOAD for downloading the data.
    I have declared the date field as CHAR10  Eg (09/13/2011) and moving the data into excel.
    Result i need : data should be downlaoded as 09/13/2011 but format of the cell should not be changed.
