How to find a shared printer on my windows 7 pc

I need to setup a shared printer on a windows 7 pc in my home network. The most popular way to do it, according to google,  requires "Printer Setup Utility" which for some reason I don't have on my MacBook Pro. Im running Mac OS X 10.6.7 . Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine

WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
    Thanks.

We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB.  We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working.  So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work.  It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside.  No firewalls on the pcs.
Not sure where to go from here...

    Hi,
For ALE/IDOC the  medium will be either ALE or EDI but not printer. So it might be wrongly attached. As such there won't be any printer attached to idoc.

  • How do I get shared printer to print when job queue thinks job is completed

I have a HP d135 connected via USB to my mac mini. This printer is configured to be shared as is the mini file system. My XP machine on the network can see the mini and the printer. The XP machine has the d135 driver installed for itself and the mini. When I print on my XP machine, I can select the mini and the d135 and it appears to be queing the job; but, it never prints. The print job does, however, appear in the mini d135 print queue as completed.
So, it looks like the print job is making it's way to the mini, it just seems to get lost between the mini and the d135.
    Any suggested solutions?
    Thanks!

HOWTO Add a raw printer queue in OS X 10.4
(by greg sahli, May 15, 2006)
What is a raw Queue for? You want to share a non-postscript printer from an OS X Mac, but you want the regular driver to work on Windows (instead of using a postscript driver on Windows).
    1. Edit the files /etc/cups/mime.convs and /etc/cups/mime.types so that the line in each that starts with:
    #application/octet-stream
has the beginning "#" removed (which means you have uncommented it).
I would use the freeware Text Wrangler and its menu item File>Open Hidden to edit these files.
    2. Make sure the printer is on and connected by USB.
Go to Printer Setup Utility. Click Add, then note how the printer is identified next to the comm protocol, USB. In my case it is "Stylus Photo R200." Cancel and close Printer Setup.
Under the Apple menu, open About this Mac and click More Info to open System Profiler. Click on Hardware>USB. Under USB BUS, click on USB Printer. We will need two pieces of info from this, so keep it open in the background.
    3. Open a web browser (Safari, Firefox, etc). Enter this URL, which is the local admin web server for CUPS on your computer:
    http://localhost:631/
Click Do Administration Tasks. When it asks for authentication enter either your regular admin user/password, or, root and root's password. (Different computers are set up differently for this) Read more:
    http://www.cups.org/articles.php?L191
    4. Click Add Printer. Enter a helpful name, like R200_RAW (for my Epson R200). If you like, enter an "abbreviated" location and description. Click Continue. Select USB Printer, not the specific model. Continue. Now we need the info from System Profiler. Make the URI like this:
    usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%20R200?serial=MO7P104xxxxxxxx40
    components of the above:
usb:// -- using the CUPS built-in USB backend driver
EPSON -- exactly as spelled (all-caps in my case) in System Profiler
Stylus%20Photo%20R200 -- as the name shows up in Printer Setup, but spaces are replaced with %20 (ascii substitute for space)
?serial=MO7P104xxxxxxxxx40 -- get the serial number from System Profiler.
    5. Click Continue. Select Raw. Continue. Select Raw Queue (en). Continue. Done. Now try printing from the Windows computer.

  • How to add a Shared printer to solaris

    Hi,
    In a server, i am using solaris 10 x86.
I want to add a shared printer which is attached in a windows xp PC.
Can any one guide me , how to add a printer which is shared in a Windowx PC to My Solaris 10 X86 Machine.
    Thanks.
    Viraj

Is it directly attached to the Windows PC (e.g. via USB?) Is it a laser printer?
In Windows, you may need to add the additional components for Unix printing and TCP (or IPP) printing. You should then be able to share your printer as a as an LPD/LPR printer or an IPP printer. Then you could probably use lpadmin to add the printer was my_xp_box:printQname
I have NOT used CUPS on a Solaris server myself - most of my printers are HP laser network printers that support LPR/LPD and port 9100 printing. but a quick google search will show that it is available for Solaris from the Solaris freeware companion CD. CUPS may make it easier to configure the solaris client. If you are dealing with an inkjet printer you probably will have to use cups to get the driver support.

  • How to find which shared memory segment corresponds to which instance.

If you have two or more instances running on a unix machine, is there a way to find out which shred memory segment and what semaphores are allocated. You could do a "ipcs -a" which will give you all the shared memory segments and semaphores, but how to find what corresponds to what instance.
    Thanks

PS: I dont know whether this is correct discussion forum or not, cause I could not find anything related to it.

if you type ipcs -a you could see:
ipcs -aIPC status from <running system> as of Tue Jan 30 12:02:20 EST 2001

  • Printing to a shared printer on a windows XP PC

Hello all, I switched last March. I've been doing pretty good at dealing with all the bumps in the road, but I got one I can't figure out.
My roommate and I moved in together about a month ago. We were going to share my printer. I decided to plug my epson printer into his computer because I didn't know if my power book would be here when he needed to print.
At any rate, I added the printer as I should, but when I tried to print I got the error NTSTATUS_ACCESSDENIED. I tried holding the option button when adding the printer and adding it as windows printer with samba. Same thing, we figured the problem was on his end and decided that I would just plug my power book in directly to the printer when I needed to.
So my printer quit and he decided to buy a lazer printer, Konica Minolta 1350w. So I go to their site to get the mac drivers so I can print, they don't support macs for that printer. So now I'm left with fixing whatever is stopping me from printing over the network. Any ideas?

First, your Window pc needs to be in workgroup and should be sharing. Then you go to your mac system preference and adding printer with printer browser then check more printer and top two section check with windows printing and whatever your workgroup name. You must able to log in to his windows computer. I think that how I did it . If not let me know. I have 3 printers set up with my Mac. it is work but somehow feels little slow.

  • How to Get Your Inkjet Printer Working with Windows 8 Consumer Preview

The drivers for your HP Inkjet Printer are already included in the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview!
You do not need to download drivers to use the product. Keep reading to learn how to install the print driver included in Windows 8 Consumer Preview with your HP printer.
Getting started in Windows 8 Consumer Preview
HP designed a quick and easy tool that helps you find the best driver for your printer in Windows 8 Consumer Preview: the HP Printer Install Wizard.
Download Printer Install Wizard for Windows 8 Consumer Preview
NOTE:The HP Printer Install Wizard is not available for all printer. This tool is available only for Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The HP Printer Install Wizard works with products connected with a USB cable or with a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network connection. Step one: Download the HP Printer Install Wizard

    2.   Connect the USB cable to the HP printer and to the computer, if it is not already connected.
    3.   Make sure that your computer has an internet connection. The wizard must access the internet to work correctly.
    4.   Click Next to begin the utility. The wizard displays a list of detected printers.
    5.   If the wizard detects more than one printer, select your HP printer from the list.
    6.   The wizard automatically displays the best available driver for your HP printer.
If a full feature driver is available, the wizard detects it. Click Next to download and install the software. For full functionality, HP recommends installing the full feature driver if it is available.
If an included print driver is available, the wizard explains that the driver is already installed. It will also supply a link to more information about using an included driver.

  • How to find a region in the Arrange Window

I'm trying to find two audio files that are apparently in regions in my arrange window on Logic 9.  I can see them in my Audio Bin but I have no idea where to find them in my Arrange Window.  I don't know if they're wedged in between or underneath a hundreds of other regions (yes I have that many regions).
Is there a method or shortkey I can use to find these specific regions?  You know...like a "control F" for regions in the Arrange Window?  Ideally I want to get rid of these files but I don't want to have any "ghost regions" that might complicate things.  I just like to have everything nice and clean.
    Thanks for any help.
p.s. In case someone asks these questions I already have answers:
Q1: Why can't you just find the regions you're looking for manually?
A1: Because I have too many regions in my Arrange Window.
Q2: Why do you have so many regions?
A2: Because that's how I work.  The number of regions I have shouldn't be related to the efficiency of looking for specific regions.

You could check if the regions may exist inside a take folder, a normal folder, or press H to see if you have any hidden tracks.
But if you are brave enough to try to soft-delete all the other regions from the Bin, it should be easy to find the two remaing ones in the Arrange window, unless you also have a lot of MIDI regions. What happens if you select all the regions in the Audio Bin (Command-A), Shift-click on the two regions you talk about to deselect them, and then (temp.) delete all the regions in the bin? You can Undo this afterwards, but NB: remember to select "Keep" (and "for all") if you are asked whether you also want to delete the recordings from the hard disc itself.
"Zoom To Selection": select a region (not a file) in the Bin, activate Arrange (eg by pressing tab one of more times until Arrange has a white-ish frame), and then press Z on your keyboard. This will zoom in on the selected region, another Z will show the whole arrangement again.
"Play from Selection": press Shift and Enter.

  • Is it possible to print on a mac to a shared printer on a Windows desktop?

I have my windows XP desktop connected to a new HP printer which prints fine. I have my DSL internet connection split by using a router and on one port I connect it to my Airport express. The internet on both machines works fine. However, can I print from my powerbook to the printer that is connected to my Windows XP desktop? Note that the powerbook is connected to the network wirelessly via Airport Express which in turn is connected to my wired router. Thanks

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The short answer is yes. You must share the printer on the XP desktop and then add the printer on your powerbook in System Prefs->Print & Fax->Set up printers->Add and from the drop down list select Windows Printing. Rendezvous may work as well. I'm currently doing this on my network. I assume you can access files on your pc from the powerbook with the current setup. This doesn't have much to do with printer sharing other than providing verification the powerbook and pc can talk to each other.

  • Sharing printer/HD with Windows + Mac?

    If I have the following:
    - Windows and Mac machines
    - Time Capsule
    - External USB HD
    - Brother DCP 7020 laser printer
Can all of this be made to communicate via Time Capsule since it include an Airport Extreme?
I currently have two Windows machines. The printer connects to machineA via USB, which is networked with machineB. I've tried sharing the printer with machineB but that doesn't work. Does Time Capsule (ie, Airport Extreme) have something special that allows this?
I was thinking of getting a 500GB Time Capsule (and MacBook) plus probably a 750GB/1TB USB HD for the Windows PC. Would it be better to focus on putting the Ext USB HD as an extended Mac drive and use MacDrive 7 on the Windows PC? This would allow me to use the Ext USB HD when Time Capsule fills up. Or, if that is the case, should I just start with the 1TB Time Capsule instead of two Ext HDs and use MacDrive on the WinPC? Thanks.

If you wish to use the MS-DOS filesystem on the drive then you must format the entire drive as a single partition with MS-DOS. You cannot partition the drive.
