  • How to organize and backup iPhoto library

I'm a slob anyway, and then there were the hard drive troubles, and now I have an iPhoto library on my internal HD, and an external drive (not the same libraries) and loose photos here and there on the internal HD and both externals.
How can I clean up this mess? I want the main library on one extHD and a backup on the other extHD and to not have a library on the intHD at all, and of course, I don't want to loose a single frame!

I did download and pay for iPhoto Library Manager and started to merge libraries as you suggested. But iPLM listed the current Library as "iPhoto Library_2." So, I wondered where was _1, and did a Find file search. There are three iPhoto libraries in my internal HD in my user folder in the "Pictures" folder, and there is a smaller Library on an external HD with only one annual folder in it.
On the internal HD, "iPhoto Library" has folders marked 2000, 2001,...2004, a folder marked "Albums," and 4 documents: Dir.data, Library.cache, Library.data, and AlbumData.xml which seems to be some Real Basic thing. Within the folders marked as years are folders for months and days and then the .JPG photos. The folder Albums contains a bunch of Album folders (with a data doc for each) and in each a bunch of docs that look like JPG photos with an arrow in the lower left corner. These albums don't appear in iPhoto Library_2
In iPhoto Library_1 are folders for 2005 and 2006, a folder marked "Albums," and 3 documents: Dir.data, Library.data, and AlbumData.xml. The month and day folders contain only 1 to a few photo JPGs.
In iPhoto Library_2 are folders for 2003...2006, and foldera marked "Albums", "Data", "Modified", and "Originals", as well as documents: Dir.data, iPhoto.ipspot, Library.data,Library.iPhoto,Library6.iPhoto,Thumb32Segment.data,
Thumb64Segment.data, ThumbJPGSegment.data, and AlbumData.xml. The year folders that overlap with those in "iPhoto Library" above, have different month and day folders, and contain only "data" folders containing numbered documents in pairs, one with a number and one with same number and the suffix .attr, but no photo JPGs.
So, what is all this, what should be preserved, and what can be thrown away?

  • How to organize and save bookmarks

I can not find the menu, option to save all bookmarks

"Organize Bookmarks" menu item has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in Firefox 4.0 versions. The {Ctrl + Shft + B} keyboard command is the same and opens the same window, which is labeled "Library".

  • How to organize and copy photos in an album?

I have created an album and organized the photos in the order that I wish to copy them to a flash drive or disk but when I try to do this the photos are in order by time and not my order.  Can this be changed?

I have one album of several that are synced from my computer that I needed to have in a specific order. I finally accomplished that by naming the photos alphabetically in the order I wanted them (I didn't have many and simply placed an "a" in front of the first, "b" in the second etc). I did this on the computer and then synced them again. Note that each time you sync via iTunes, the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone will be set to match the current iTunes selection/settings so you can repeat several times if needed before you get it right.

  • How do elements organizer and adobe photoshop elements relate? Unclear how/where to save edited photos

I don't understand how elements organizer and adobe photoshop elements relate - how/where do I save edited photos?  I tried to save them on my hard drive and the result was a 65 MB file!!!  Not sure what I'm doing wrong :/ - maybe I'm saving the entire folder every time instead of just an individual photo?

There is no standard field for faces. To transfer information you must put it in the standard place that the new program will use. That does not exist for faces. One work around would be to use keywords. You include the available metadata in a photo by checking all if the boxes when you export the photo(s). What the receiving program is determined by the authors of that program. All iPhoto can do is write what it offers to the IPTC & EXIF fields which it will

  • How to organize files with 256Gb SSD

I would like to apologize in advance if i am posting in the wrong discussions board.
I would like to ask community of advice on how to deal with a huge amount of data which doesn't seem to fit in the laptop's hard drive. When i bought i didn't imagine how fast it would fill up and looking for a good easy to use solution.
    Inputs:
    Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch
    256Gb SSD Drive
QNAP 1.5Tb RAID TS210 (slow data transfer)
Seagate 4TB external USB 3.0 drive (external power)
Seagate 1TB external USB 3.0 Drive
    JetDrive 64gb (memory card)
    Yosemite
    Problem:
My wife and i have 2 accounts on my laptop. my iTunes full library is about 140Gb, hers about 20Gb. My iPhoto library is about 50Gb and lives on Jetdrive. My wife's about 80Gb and i had to temporary move it to external drive so iTunes can backup her iPhone before upgrade. So, we constantly running out of time and live in a small apartment where having laptop to be connected constantly to external drive is not very nice solution. Our NAS drive is quite slow even with 802.11ac connected at 1Gigabit it only manages about 5mb/s (just old drive). Yosemite is buggy and doesn't handle network connection well so after sleep you have to kill Finder to reconnect. my wife won't be able to do it
So i wonder how people manage this. some solutions come to mind. Not to store photos in iPhoto library. But than how to organize and edit them? use Lightroom? what organization should be? Having iTunes on NAS is not very robust, library breaks quite often and requires repairs. How other deal with it? iPhone backups are not even part of the iTunes folder.
Basically any suggestions from experience people have would be most welcome. I don't think iCloud/Cloud solutions are there yet, by simply cost and speed reasons.
    Many Thanks!
    R.

There is no need to download anything.
In iTunes, select File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Library
This will consolidate all content listed in iTunes into the iTunes Media Folder.

  • Can process and icon of iPhone app be hidden?

    Hi guys!
i was always worried about the security of iPhone 3GS since i stored most of my id/password on it. recently i had a little concern that maybe some apps i installed on my phone didnt have an icon and i couldnt see the process via sbsetting as well. so that means there're some apps on my phone that i can never get access to and i dont even know what they are doing.
and as a developer, im quite interested how can process and icon hidden be achieved by code. so my question is, am i thinking too much or process and icon hidden really exist in iPhone? if the answer is yes, how can i do this by code? any clues are welcome!
    thx a lot!
    cheers

For a non-development answer, if you have more apps than can be displayed in the limited number of pages allowed they will not be shown but are still available when you use search which is located to the left of the first page. You can also move apps to folders, allowing more apps to be visible on the pages.
Any other type of hiding of an app would be difficult as there would be no way easy way of launching it. Remember as well, that apps cannot run in the background except for limited functionality.

  • How can I edit a RAW image in Adobe Bridge and/or Photoshop?

Whenever I drag and drop a photo or group of images from iPhoto. it automatically converts them to jpegs. Even when taken as RAW images. With iPhoto 09, you could do a search of the IMG_#### listed in iPhoto, and a normally-hidden folder full of the original downloaded RAW images turned up in the search. Now, in iPhoto 11, the RAW images newly downloaded DO NOT show up in any system searches (using 10.8.4. It was bad enough when they were hidden... now they are virtually gone.
I want to use iPhoto for organization and some editing, but some photos I want to work with in the RAW format and save as TIFFs. How do I do that?

Whenever I drag and drop a photo or group of images from iPhoto. it automatically converts them to jpegs.
Drag and Drop and Media Browsers access the iPhoto Previews only. No conversion, just the previews.
With 10.8 Spotlight no longer searches within packages, that's to protect the inexperienced user from trashing his or her library inadvertently - as directly accessing the file can do.
To use Raws with an external editor:
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    But there's a kludge here.
iPhoto sends a copy of the file to Photoshop. In the case of a Jpeg you simply save and it all comes back to iPhoto seamlessly. However, if you use a Save As then Photoshop is creating a new file and iPhoto knows nothing about this.
Now here's the catch with Raws. You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Adobe Elements 11 Organizer and Importing images from camera.

I changed Adobe Elements version (from 10 to 11) and Brand New all-in-one Dell XPS computer that comes with Windows 8 as OS (From XP SP3) ... Now my import in Adobe Organzer gets stuck.   Adobe Elements sees the camera, and compares the files on my camera to the photos in Organizer and knows how may are duplicates.   I then select all the photos it finds as Non-Duplicates and tell it what directory to import into and select (Finish/Import) and it just sits there.  I can change anything on that screen for options, but it really is locked up.   I have to use Task Manager to end the task so that I can get back into Adobe Organizer.    Maybe there is some kind of incompatibility with Windows 8 I am not aware of?

As you said "I am using this method as a bandaid, but this method will constantly copy all files (including old photos still on card) to a new folder.  This means that I have the same photo being copied from my cameras memory to multiple locations.  Not the best method (lots of clutter). "
This is not so. Importing photos using Watched Folders doesn't copy your photos to any other location.
Please empty your card and add 1-2 images to it. Now launch Photodownloader.exe from the location : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 11 Organizer
Post doing this, launch Organizer. Let's see if the import happens.
    Thanks

  • I'm a photographer looking for a good (detailed) resource that will inform me of specifically how I should be saving my images for print/online

I've been working in photoshop for years but I've always gotten a bit lost on exactly what size I should be saving my photo's for optimal quality.
I basically need a good website that will go over all the aspects of saving images as a photographer, but if you can answer these questions that will also help.
    • What size/resolution should I save if I am giving the client images on a disk for them to print?
    • What size/resolution should I be saving photo's just for online viewing?
    • How come when I place my image (saved at 4in x 6in) into a new document that is (682px x 459px) the picture is pixelated?

Perhaps the best resource for all things digital media related, especially when it comes to best practices in the industry is
    dpbestflow.org
Specific answers to your 3 questions:
-generally, 300ppi at the final print size is good enough in most cases. If they are printing the image very large, like a poster or billboard image, then the print size at a lower resolution can be acceptable since it's being viewed from further away. Either always get the specs from the printer for what size/resolution they require, or just give them your full-sized original image, since that's all the pixels they can possibly have to work with.
-depends on every individual's monitor settings. If you supply an image that is HD-sized at 1920x1080, and they're using a monitor with a resolution at that size or greater, the whole image will fit on their screen. If their monitor resolution is smaller than that, your image will be bigger than they can display. Browsers, website coding, monitor resolution, all factor into how these will display on each individual computer. If you want the whole image to display within a browser window then you'll want your total pixel dimensions to be smaller than the average person's monitor resolution (unless you want them to be able to zoom in and see all the detail of your full-size image, then you would upload the full image and let your website do whatever it does to display smaller/thumbnail versions which can then be clicked on to open up the full-res version. Note, the actual resolution, e.g. 300ppi, doesn't factor into monitor display. PPI means it will PRINT that many pixels per inch of paper, and has nothing to do with how it will display on monitors which only concern themselves with pixel dimensions.
-682x459 is a rather small size. Of course it will lose detail. Just imagine if you scaled your image down further into a 10x10 pixel image. You'd have 100 pixels to make up all the detail in your image. Lots of detail will be lost since you've got a lot fewer pixels to make up the image.

  • How to organize my photos in albuns and sub-albuns?

    Hi,
I have Windows PC and wanted to know how to organize my photos in folders and sub-folders inside the Ipod.
By sincronizing Ipod with a specific folder of your hard disk, all images are updated, but sub-folders are ignored. For instance, if you sinc the My Photos folder:
    c:\My Photos\2004\Family
    c:\My Photos\2004\Friends
The Family and Friends photos will be cast together, because Ipod only sees one sub-level (the 2004 folder). Can anyone help with this? I tried the Photoshop Album, but I didn't manage to understand this program!
    Thanks!

    Ipod Video   Windows XP

As far as I know your only option is either Adobe Album or Photoshop Elements. (Not Album SE or a trial version)
Once you've got your photo's imported, there are two tabs on the righthandside, tags and collections (? - I have a non-english version). Create a new collection and drag photo's on it or rightclick on a photo and select "Add to collection..."
Now when you use iTunes to sync photo's from Adobe it will show the collections you've made and each collection you synchronise will show up with a separate name on your ipod.

Thanks for the reply with the very helpful details.
Export from Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = HDTV 1080p29.97 High Quality
I suspect that we are in a no win situation here - an Elements Organizer 12 issue.
With Elements Organizer 11, 10, and 9, I can bring your MPEG2.mpg into the Elements Organizer with thumbnail with
image. I cannot for Elements 12. And, I am working with the same MPEG2.mpg in Elements Organizer 9.0/9.0.1, 10, 11,
and 12 on the same computer. In the morning, I will look Elements Organizer 13 as well.
In my work with 12, this MPEG2.mpg consistently crashed the Elements Organizer 12.
It is difficult to explain these results by invoking a missing codec theory since all was done with the same sample on the
    same computer.

  • Organizer 12 - how to zoom over 100%, compare images, use the Magic Trackpad?

    English Version below.
Hallo zusammen.
    English Version
Hi there. I switched from Apple Aperture to PSE 12. Now I have my 11500 photos in the Organizer and a few teething problems.
I have specified in the preferences that you can resize photos to over 100%. This does not work. Photos are always fitted only in the window when the zoom lever is all the way to the right.
Only in the full-screen view you can scale over 100%. However, this also works if I have not set the setting in the preferences.
How do I compare multiple images? The manual describes to select from the View menu -> Compare images. This menu item does not exist for me. (German Version)
Also by pressing F12, nothing happens. Can I re-assign the button functions somewhere?
Last but not least: How can I use the zoom & pinch from the Magic Trackpad? I 'm missing that very much. Aperture was very user friendly with that.

Hello Barbara and thank you for your answer.
I've ment side by side view.   And it works by pressing F12 + cmd. Thanks.
Zoom & Pinch only works in the Editor, but not very well or smooth. And I couldn't tell you how often the Editior rotate my images unwanted ...
In the preferences of the Organizer, there is no point for a scroll wheel. And I'm really not able to zoom in the organizer over the "fitts in screen" size.
And I've found some more problems Sometime I'd like to export my images without any Exif/Metadata Information and resized. I haven't found any point do do so.
At the Moment, I'm thinking about switching back to Aperture, where I came from - I've tried to use PSE 'cause of Adobes Raw Converter, which is much much better with Olympus RAW Files than Apertures.

  • How to edit a file from Organizer and return it to Organizer?

In PSE5, in Organizer, I want to fix a photo. I right-click it and "go to quick fix" or"go to full edit". Editor opens up, I edit the photo, and want to return to Organizer. How to do that? If I try to save, I have to go through several dialogs, including warning that I'm about to replace an existing file, and default option to save a version; which all looks like I'm creating another instance of the file. Or, if I want to fix multiple files, I select them all in Organizer and go to quick fix; once I have finished, I don't see how I can commit all changes back to Organizer (which is showing "edit in progress" on them meanwhile) - I have to save each individual file, going every time through those several dialogs. Am I missing something obvious?

Not missing anything, that's how it works. If you want to replace the
file, go ahead, but most people keep a separate version, so you have
your original, and then the one they changed. That way, if you don't
like what you did, you can always go back to the original. You should
get something like: IMG_001.jpg (let's say that's your original file),
and then IMG_001-edited-1.jpg as the next one in the version set. This
is how Elements works. Most editing does change pixels, so you actually
have a new file. (I know that some editors/organizers do support
non-destructive editing, but you are very limited in what things you can
    do.)
