How to play a DVD in QuickTime  first of many questions

Hi, can someone please explain how to play a movie from DVD in QuickTime.
I go to "Ablage" (don't know english word for that) -> open file -> klick on some *.VOB and klick play. But the Movie is very slow and I have no sound.

I also can open *.VOBs from my HD with QuickTime and convert them. They just have no sound and also I can't trimm them in QuickTime.
Since you already have the MPEG2 component, recommend you simply download the free MPEG Streamclip application. It can also load/convert single VOB or entire Title VOB series and allows you to trim, adjust volume, brightness, contrast, and/or saturation levels as well. Quite a handy application whether used alone or in conjunction with QT Pro filters and/or preset options.

  • How to play purchased DVD on Apple TV?

    I'm planning on purchasing an AppleTV2 by Christmas. However I'm not sure how to view a purchased DVD movie on my TV through ATV2.
    Do I need to convert the movie to a specific format? - Is this legal?

    as dave hutch mentioned the word "legal" is a subjective word. in order to play a dvd on your apple tv you need will need to do some things. you first need to get that movie into your itunes library. personally i have been buying the "new releases" on those blu ray combo packs that most often come with a "digital copy" of the movie that you can copy into your itunes library. this is perfectly legal and if you buy the combo pack the first week of its release you can in a lot of cases get 3 versions of that movie for the price of a regular dvd. then once you have it in your itunes library it's as simple as enabling home sharing and you can watch to your hearts content on your apple tv.
    if you don't have a digital copy you are going to have to break the encryption on to copy it, and the specifics to do that are not allowed in this forum, but a quick google search will get you to many ideas and software to do that. i am like dave and think that for my own personal use this method is legal.
    what ever you decide good luck

  • How to play avi files in quicktime

    I am transferring all my files to my mac from pc. How do I enable quicktime 7 pro to play my avi files???

    As you are not only switching from pc to mac, but also intel, a couple of suggestions from one intel mac user to another:
    1) Download the DivX for intel beta here:
    http://labs.divx.com/node/76
    Installing should allow your QT player to function well with most codecs that you commonly find which use the .avi container - it's helped me quite a bit.
    2) Download and install the Flip4Mac component for Quicktime here:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
    This is an alternative for those pesky WMV files you need to play. Keep in mind that although the component installs and works on your intel mac, it is not yet optimized, so you need to run QT under rosetta in order to see the functionality of the flip4mac component. The intel mac version is on the horizon, hopefully sooner rather than later.
    3) Download iSquint or likewise another conversion app. I'm offering up iSquint for now since it is free, easy and universal. You might opt for ffmpegX, MPEG Streamclip or others, but these do not run natively on your machine at this time, and you might find them a little confusing. iSquint will read pretty much any kind of codec and container combo, and it does quick conversions to mp4/H.264 files that your QT Player will recognize...

    4) Download and install the latest build of VLC for intel mac:
    http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/
    The latest build of this player has been rocking along nicely for me on the intel machine, and VLC is a great alternative for those video files you come across that just don't want to play in other video apps.

  • How to play .VOB files with QuickTime?

    I get an "Error opening file" message trying to play a VTS014.VOB file. This is a file of home movies scanned to the above file. I use Pro (QuickTime™ Version 7.1.6, Player Version 7.1.6) with the mpeg-2 addition and went through the process identifying QuickTime as the default player in "Get Info".
    I can watch with iDVD and something else called VLC Media Player. I want to be able to pull off segments for other applications like making an DVD with just parts of the full file.
    Thanks for your help.

    The mpeg2playbackcomponent will not play mpeg2 files that are in transport stream format, as the VTS in the file name you cite suggests. There is, however, a freeware that can use the playback component and read transport streams. It also will do some simple editing of vob files and save them without re-encoding, or export them to non-mpeg form such as DVStream for use in apps like iMovie.

  • How to play another tween after the first one is done playing?

    I create some tweens in as3, but I want another tween to start only after this one is done playing, how to write that part of code in as?
    Thank you.

    If you are using the built-in Tween class, assign an event listener to the first tween to listen for its TweenEvent.MOTION_FINISH event and use that to trigger the second tween.

  • How to play a dvd on a macbook pro with retina display

    I recently bought a Macbook pro with retina display and was suprised to see that there is no slot to put a dvd or cd into. For the amount paid i feel this is ridiculous. However wish to seek a solution, does anyone know of how to solve this problem? Thankyou

    Purchase an external DVD drive and attach it to your rMBP.  Or you can purchase the Apple model specifically made for it:

    Yes it is brand new..... I have tried other DVDS and its the same problem... when I launch the DVD player and then the DVD it just says the DVD is not supported. My iMAC is 3 years old and all up to date. Loading the DVD does not launch iTunes. I dont really want to have to buy an external drive..... I have played DVDs on this computer before so I dont understand why I cannot now, unless its to do with recent updates?
    Well it is either have Apple fix the superdrive for $$$$$$$ (around $100+) or spend 30-40 bucks on an external.
    These slot load Superdrives Apple uses fail all the time. There is nothing about them that can be called Super. Other then the cost of replacing them.

  • How to play swf files in quicktime

    I have recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MBP. Before I could play swf files (with no associated html files) in Quicktime okay, but in Snow Leopard you cannot select the swf to play. Is there a plug in that I now need to play this?

    Perian is definitely not the route. Frrom http://perian.org :
    File formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW
    SWF is a special container made by Adobe Director and can be played back with streaming software, such as a Web page that has the Adobe Shockwave plugin. Open an SWF file in Safari or other browser after installing the latest Shockwave Player, free from Adobe. Some other software that is designed for streaming playback can play SWF media, but not a typical video player like QuickTime Player.
    The contents of an SWF container might include an FLV video file or bitmap images either alone or with other data. Shockwave Player has 3D graphics and interaction options (can capture video, sound, mouse movements etc. from your system by default and send them to a remote server if you don't turn off these permissions).

  • How do I convert DVD to quicktime format?

    We shoot HS Football games on a Canon HD camera - they are edited down to about 10 minutes each and processed as DVD. I would like to upload the video to mediafire in QT.
    How do I convert? or what do I need?

    Handbreak is definitely the best way. It is free and they have lots of presets to choose from. The downside is the conversion usually takes realtime unless you have a powerhouse desktop powermac.

  • How to play .AVI files in Quicktime Player 7.6.4

    Quicktime Player 7.6.4 will not playback my .AVI movies that I recorded with my Polaroid DVG-1080p digital video camera. I have videos that are 1080p and 720p (H264).
    I wish I knew enough about the formatting to troubleshoot, but I thought I would seek advice from the experts.
    Any suggestions?

    I don't think that QuickTime natively recognizes H.264 content in an AVI wrapper. You might try installing Perian and see if that helps.
    Regards.

  • How long can a DVD be? A much asked question.

    I apologize because I am sure this is a much asked question but in searching the forum I haven't been able to find the answer.
    What is the maximum length of time for a movie exported from Final Cut Express to be burned using iDVD?
    I am getting a message in iDVD telling me that I have exceeded the limit and the DVD can not be burned. I'd like to know what that limit is before I re-edit or break the project up into pieces.
    Thanks

    One way around the two hour (or slightly less) time limit in iDVD is to go to the "Project" menu item, click on "Project info" and change "Media type" to "8.0GB (Double layer)". Burn to a disk image and mound the .IMG file on the desktop. The resulting VIDEO_TS file will be greater than 4.3GB and too large to fit on a single layer blank DVD. The file can be compressed to fit a single layer blank DVD by using DVD2ONEX or DVDRemaster. Both programs are shareware - available for evaluation on VersionTracker.com - and both do a good job of preseving visual quality while compressing the size (not the length) of the VIDEO_TS file. This is a very useful workaround for those occasions when a project is too long.

  • IIf Expression: The first of many questions. Thank you in advance.

    One of the situations I am in need of assistance with is the following "IIf" statement:
    =IIf([Check36]=Off,10,0)           The expression is located in a field [LateFee].
    When, [Check36], is Off, $10.00 is displayed, if On then $0.00 is displayed.
    I have come to conclusion that this statement is correct and functional, although, it is not complete to my necessity.
    I'm wanting to include another action to the expression:
    =IIf([Check36]=off >=11th Day of any month then,10,0)
    In effect, what I would  like to express is that if the Check Box [Check36] is Off any Day of the Month > = to the 11th Day, then the [LateFee] will display 10,0
    Pardon the inquisition, although, I've really caught the bug and I would like to locate the correct answer.
    Jason

    You don't need '=Off'.  A check box control has a value of a Boolean TRUE or FALSE, so simply reference the control by name:
        =IIf([Check36] And Day(Date())>10 And Time() > #12:00#,10,0)
    This will return 10 if the value of the check box is TRUE and the current date is after the 10th of the month, zero otherwise.  You can see how it works in the debug window today, 6th march at 12:50 PM with:
    Check36 = TRUE
    ? IIf(Check36 And Day(Date())>10 And Time() > #12:00#,10,0)
     0
    If we change the expression so that the relevant date is after 5th of the current month, yesterday as of now, we get 10:
    ? IIf(Check36 And Day(Date())>5 And Time() > #12:00#,10,0)
     10
    If we change the Boolean value to FALSE:
    Check36 = FALSE
    we now get zero:
    ? IIf(Check36 And Day(Date())>5 And Time() > #12:00#,10,0)
     0
    Is this what you are aiming at?
    However, I'd recommend that you don't accept the default name like Check36 which Access gives to a control when you add it to form, but change it to some meaningful such as chkLatePayment.  Always do this immediately on adding a control to a form, not
    after you've inserted any code in one f the control's event procedures.  If you change the name afterwards the link between the control and the event procedure will be broken.

  • How to Burn a DVD

    Hi there,
    how can I burn a DVD video? I have got in a HD directory Video_TS and Audio_TS subdirectories and I have no idea how to make a DVD video with them.
    A sub-question would be how to play a DVD-Movie from HD directory, in other words how to play from the two subdirectories mentioned.
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi ecano,
    You should ask this of the iLife/iMovie forum. I could be totally wrong, but it seems that the _TS is analog and you first need to convert to a digital format that iMovie can play nice with.
