How to preserve XML comments in indesign cs4 document

Hi,
I have the below table xml with me:

I am able to import this xml in to indeisgn document successfully. But when I export the same table out of Indesign, the xml comment  <!--tgroup... is not exported.
Is there any method to preserve the comment on export. Please suggest a solution for this.
Thanks,
Gopal

You must include the comment() as one of the elements that you select to process.
It is best to use xsl:value-of or xsl:copy-of with select="informaltable/comment()" to avoid processing comments from other parts of your XML file. In other words, always make the processing of comment() specific to the location where you need to extract the content of the comment.

  • How to create a smallest file size pdf from indesign CS4 document

    How to create a smallest file size pdf (suitable for upload to a website) from indesign CS4 document which contains multiple illustrator CS4 illustrations.
    I have chosen the "smallest file size option" but the pdf file is over 30MB, can anyone help please.
    Thank you

    One trick is to
    Set the placed graphics to have a transparency of 99.9% (you can do this with Find/Change and select Objects)
    This is enough to force the graphics throught the Transparency Flattener
    Next set the Transparency Blend Space to RGB (Edit>Transparency Blend Space)
    Next set a custom Transparency Flattner Preset Edit>Transparency Flattner
    Next
    Use File>Export and choose
    Smallest file size
    PDF Compatibility Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
    In Advanced Section - go to transparency and selec the new Flattener Preset you created.
    *this will convert your vectors to raster, but it should reduce your file size

    How can I buy or license InDesign CS4? (I need to work in CS4 for a client, even though I have a CC subscription.)

    There's no way to buy CS4 any longer through official reseller channels. If you can get the work done in 30 days you can use a trial, which you can download at Download and Installation Help

  • Color issue in an InDesign CS4 document

    Something strange is happening in an InDesign CS4 document: All of my my objects that use RGB color swatches appear darker (or grayer) in the document than the RGB swatches themselves. It might be that all of the objects are converting to CMYK and I'm not getting the true RGB colors within this document. Oddly, when I copy an object from this document – say, a simple shape with 100% color fill – into a new document, the object renders correctly with RGB in the new document. That makes me think I've got a universal setting within the original document that is converting my colors strangely. (Potential clue: In the new document, when I click on an RGB swatch, the Swatch Options box shows the Color Mode as RGB, making the color correct. In the original document, when I click on the same swatch color, the Color Mode says System (Macintosh). But when I switch it to RGB, I see a warning icon referring to Out of Gamut color, and when I click on the Gamut correction, it renders the RGB swatch as the off-color I'm trying to avoid.) Is there a universal setting change I should make in the original document so my colors render correctly on screen (I'm trying to use the Web Color Mode)? Thanks!

    Brilliant, Peter, thank you. I wouldn't have figured that out on my own. Oddly, the Edit Menu settings had been modified and I had to search to even find the Transparency Blend Space menu. Once I did and reset the Menus, I could switch the CMYK to RGB (no idea how that got switched), and the colors are as they should be. Thanks so much!

  • How to reveal XML tags in InDesign CS5.5?

    I'm trying to tag a business catalog for an XML export. I've never done it before - but our sister company has done the same task with a similar catalog. I can view their catalog in InDesign CS5.5 for Windows over a VPN connection in order to see how they tagged their catalog.
    I'm doing this task on a Mac using InDesign CS4. The interfaces are not the same. The biggest problem is the sister company is in Czech and so is InDesign. I need to open the tags pane. On the Mac, its just "Window>>Tags." There is a "Window" (Okna) menu, but I'm not seeing a "Tags" choice. I have the structure open, but I want to see all the little colored tags. How do I reveal these on the Windows CS5.5 version?
    Thanks

    Wouldn't it be View > Structure > ... ?

  • XML Comment in Indesign using Apple script.

    Hi all,
    How to find the selected XML element is commented in indesign and get XML comment value in thru apple script. Any Ideas?
    -Jacintha

    You can have as many comments as you want so they require you to state the index of the comment in your reference.
    Assuming you have an object reference for the XML element, you would replace "associated XML element of selection" with that.
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
        set myComments to {}
        if every XML comment of associated XML element of selection is not {} then
            set end of myComments to value of every XML comment of associated XML element of selection
        end if
        return myComments
    end tell
    if you know there's only going to be one comment then,
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
        if every XML comment of associated XML element of selection is not {} then
            set  myComment to value of XML comment 1 of associated XML element of selection
        end if
        return myComment
    end tell

  • How to hyphenate page ranges in InDesign CS4 Index

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how to automatically hyphenate page ranges in an index in InDesign CS4?  In other words, if I generate an index with a reference on multiple consecutive pages, it looks like this:
    Entry 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
    Obviously, this is much more cluttered than if it could read:
    Entry 1, 4-10
    I'm wondering if anyone knows whether there is an option to cause InDesign to do this automatically.  I'd hate to have to go through and do it by hand.
    Thanks in advance,
    Professor F

    Thanks very much, Jong, this is a helpful start.  Unfortunately, it creates a new problem for the one it solved; when I run it, it will insert page numbers after the first letter of the index entry.  So
    Certificate of insurance 389, 390, 391, 392
    becomes:
    C, 389–92
    ertificate of insurance 390, 392
    I regret that I don't know anything about scripting.  Is there some way to fix this, either through InDesign settings or by adjusting Peter's script?
    Many thanks!
    F

  • How to extract xml comments

    Hi,
    I have loaded XML files into my table of XML Type . I have comments in XML file. This comments are important to us and I want to extract this comments . How can we extract the comments present in XML file. I was not able to find any function which can do it.
    Thanks,
    Ramesh.

    Hi Ramesh,
    First of all, instead of posting three times in different forums, why not provide relevant details such as database version and a sample XML?
    Generally, XML comments are not meant to be extracted.
    If they contain so important data then most likely that data should be stored in regular element or attribute nodes.
    Here's an example using XQuery though :
    SQL> create table tmp_xml of xmltype;
    Table created
    SQL>
    SQL> insert into tmp_xml values (
      2   xmltype('<root>
      3  <!-- this is a comment -->
      4  <item/>
      5  <!-- this is another comment -->
      6  </root>')
      7  );
    1 row inserted
    SQL>
    SQL> select x.comment_text
      2  from tmp_xml t
      3     , xmltable(
      4         '/descendant::comment()'
      5         passing t.object_value
      6         columns comment_text varchar2(200) path '.'
      7       ) x
      8  ;
    COMMENT_TEXT
    this is a comment

  • How to find different styles from Indesign CS4 Grap style?*

    Hi,

    For instance, A word having bold/italic character style following with punctuation having normal/none character style.
    Thanks for your help!

    With GREP styles you can search text only, not formatting.

  • How can I allow commenting in a certified document/

    In Acrobat Pro 9, I created a certified document by selecting "Certify with out Visible Signature." I tried all three settings in "Permitted Changes after Certifying" but my PDF still does not allow commenting in Reader. The PDF allowed commenting before I certified it---how can I enable commenting after certification?

    Tags are independent of PDF page content. Removing/deleting a page or page(s) does not remove anything in the PDF's structure tree.
    As Full Check is looking at the structure tree the report reflects what is present there.
    In the Tags panel walk the structure tree to locate the Table tags. Delete these.

    This is the class for a JCP I created to perform the following:
    1) Launch an existing Concurrent Program that produces PDF output
    2) Grab the PDF and apply a watermark based on user input or conditions
    3) associate the modified PDF to CP output for PASTA printing
    It isn't elegant but it is fairly simple. I added the email capability and tested it but am not implementing it at the present time.
    there is a fair amount of information out there that explains how to create a JCP councurrent program but very little that demonstrates the class needed.
    I hope this helps

  • InDesign CS4 documents won't stay minimized

    My newspaper just went to InDesign as our pagination software, switching over from Quark, and we love it. However, there is one nagging issue with it that we cannot seem to figure out, so I thought I'd toss it out here.
    There are times, of course, when you want to minimize your page into the dock to tend to business in other application windows on your desktop. However, when you minimize an InDesign page/document, after a certain period of time, the window will spontaneously maximize back up onto the desktop.
    Basically, we'd like to know how to keep an InDesign page/document minimized until we want it to be maximized. We don't want it to bounce back up of its own volition, we want it to maximize when we decide it should be maximized.
    We are running Mac OS X 10.6.4.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    This happens to us, too. Drives me nuts.
    In my case, it doesn't happen spontaneously or randomly, but when I have one or more pages minimized in the dock and open a NEW page to work on, the last page I was working on opens first. I don't want that one! If I did, I'd open it. I want to work on the NEW one.
    Why does InDesign do this?
    Does anyone have an answer?

  • How do I make comments on a pdf document that was sent to me?

    I have windows XP and Reader 7.0.   Is there a way to enable "edit" so that I can make "comments" on a pdf. document that was sent to me?  withought spending $$$ for pro?

    Thanks Sabian.  It took me a while to figure out that "close Acrobat Reader 7.0" actually meant "delete it".   After loading 10.1.2 I followed the instructions to send my pdf file and Internet Explorer decided to "quit" right in the middle of the process. ??  I'll try to use Chrome to see if that helps.

  • I need to know how to import xml files into indesign cs6.

    My client wants to send me xml text files to import into Indesign for a multi-page publication. I don't have a clue where to start. Can you point me to a tutorial that would help me figure this out?
    I have a sample file that looks like this:

    AND SO ON...FOR 64 PAGES WORTH OF CONTENT
    HELP!!!
    SGAREN

    Hello Sally,
    First, I have only heard/read good things about the book Steve recommends. It is on my to buy list one day. Been awaiting a long deserved vaction to pick it up to read.
    I approach XML files pretty much like I do any text file I am sent in that I will import or copy/paste a text file into a frame in ID and begin setting my styles. With XML, though, I first clean it up, move closing tags up to their logical close lines, remove spurious codes that mean something in HTML but don't necessarily belong in the XML file (like &#x2019 which is an apostrophe so I do a search and replace. But for &#xA0; which is a non-breaking space I simply search and replace with a regular space in general), and make sure the XML validates.
    Validation is much like making sure an HTML page is formed properly. I use an XML editor (XML BluePrint) and a text editor (UltraEdit) for these tasks. If I had to only have one or the other, I suppose the XML editor is what I would use.
    I always show the import options when I import the XML and make sure that I link to the file.
    So once a sample of the XML is on a page in ID (via File | Import XML), I highlight text within a tag, say like in your example above, the Providor name, and make it like I want and then create a new style. I generally name the styles as per the XML tag. Later on, that makes mapping tags to styles a little easier.
    Once I set up all the styles preliminarily, I map the tags to styles. You can do that either via the Tags palette or via the Structure Pane that will appear once the XML is imported. In both cases, it is found via the flyout menu at the top right of their respective windows.
    After mapping my styles to the tags, I select the root element in the Structure Pane (the topmost element. In your sample above it is "providors" and delete it. This removes the XML in your ID file. But the styles and tags are still present.
    Then I import the XML again and look to makes sure all the tags/elements are styled as intended. I then correct any errors/ommissions. Then...I'll delete the XML again and import the full XML file.
    I can upload what I did with your XML sample above so you can compare it to your source file if you would like. You would then see how/where I moved tags. Now, moving the tags is only "necessary" to avoid all the extra blank paragraphs. That can be accomplished by ID's search/replace, too. But I like to start out with the XML cleaned up, so I take the few minutes to do it.
    Take care, Mike
