HOW TO: Resolve 'An error has occurred: Request timed out' issue

Post Author: fmi-charles
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
After doing a new install of BOE Server software, encountered a problem viewing long running reports on-demand.  InfoView displayed: 'An error has occurred: Request timed out.' Couldn't find answers anywhere (not even on this site) that would help me resolve this issue.  So, I decided to post the resolution.
The error from this post's subject line is displayed when viewing on-demand reports that run for longer than 90 seconds.  If the report was scheduled, it wouldn't have a problem - only viewing on-demand.  This issue transpires with the following setup:   * M$ Windows 2003 Server   * IIS v.6   * .NET 2.0.50727   * BO Enterprise Server XI R2 SP2   * M$ SQL Server 2005
The resolution is to find the 'machine.config' file for your current version of the .NET Framework (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework \v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config).  Edit the file and place the following into a new line within the 'system.web' section: <httpRuntime executionTimeout="3600"/>
The timeout is set in seconds.
Then, restart IIS using the command line.

  • Slow reports giving "An error has occurred: Request timed out" on first run

    I have BO XI R1 SP4 installed on Windows 2003 R2 SP3 with .Net 1.1 installed.
Most of our reports are quite large (>60000 rows returned) and will timeout in InfoView when first run and give the message in the subject. When you close the window and re-run them then they come up almost straight away.
This tells me that the report runs and it gets stored in the cache server, which is fine, but I want to be able to eliminate the timeout for the users.
I found a solution if .Net 2.0 is installed (HOW TO: Resolve 'An error has occurred: Request timed out' issue) but my server only has .Net 1.1.
Is there a change to a timeout I can made to the server as it is, or should I install .Net 2.0 and change IIS to use that version of .Net then make the solution change already suggested?
I should add that the timeout is after around 5 minutes, so the normal changes recommended at note 1198539 doesn't seem to apply, as the timeout happens after the normal 90 seconds expires for some time.

Will something like this work on an iPhone and where would I locate it?  My App Store was working just fine and this last week it's been slower and slower, plus difficulties with downloading and updates. Both my downloads and updates start and then pop up a 'can't install at this time'. I thought it might b my storage space so I started deleting. Well I have plenty of space now and still get same problem.
Now over the last two days I will type in a search to reinstall the apps that I removed and the App Store tells me request timed out.
    Help please

anyone can help me fix this problem?
    thank you..

So I tried the trial version but my serial number didn't work I guess because it's for a CS5.5 Web Premium product. I also tried uninstalling my current version of FB4 Standard, uninstalling CS5.5 and starting from scratch without any copies of FlashBuilder in my Applications folder and that didn't work, same error log message. I ended up reinstalling my original copy of FB4 Standard so I could continue working.
The odd thing is when I went to my MacBook Pro and uninstalled the copy of FB4 Standard I have on there and installed the CS5.5 FlashBuilder 4.5 Premium it works and started up fine. So I'm guessing there's something specific about my iMac setup that's preventing launch.
I was looking at my FB installation details, don't know if this matters but I'm running the standalone version:

Unfortunately it's the weekend (holiday in US too). I like the weekend for trying to get these things setup but I'm on my own and feel I'm out of luck until the work week starts.
If anyone from Adobe is reading this with a beer in one hand and hotdog in the other (or burger or veggie burger or bbq chicken leg) on a hot memorial day and have an idea on how to fix this I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks!

So it's possible that update files were corrupted. Try to remove these files and re-try again.
From Terminal check if you've temporary files here:
        ls -la /private/var/folders/*/*/*/
And then try to remove them (you may backup them first just in case):
        rm -frv /private/var/folders/*/*/*/
Or eventually run Finder and go to: /private/var/folders and Trash all the folders (if something bad happens, restore it from your Trash).
    And re-try again.
Removing all the folders from /private/var/folders it actually fixed the problem on my laptop.

    Hi All,
how to hide '1 error has occurred' message when validation fires?
Mixing English and non-English messages looks a bit uncomfortable for users.
So I would like to hide or translate it into Russian. How to do this?

I'm almost sure this message can't be translated, but perhaps Joel can jump in and correct me. You can make sure it doesn't get shown by editing your page template and removing this susbstitution string:

    Hello Vivek,
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office
may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
If you are building a solution that runs in a server-side context, you should try to use components that have been made safe for unattended execution. Or, you should try to find alternatives that allow at least part of the code to run client-side.
If you use an Office application from a server-side solution, the application will lack many of the necessary capabilities to run successfully. Additionally, you will be taking risks with the stability of your overall solution.
You can read more about that in the
Considerations for server-side Automation of Office article.
Consider using third-party components designed for the server-side execution instead.

  • Stall and "slew request timed out"

Yesterday my PowerMac G5 stalled for the second time, the GUI was unresponsive but i was able to log into the machine over SSH.
The only activity i saw was that the following was constantly logged:
"PowerMac112SlewCtrlLoop::setVoltageSlewIndex - slew request timed out"
I tried to make the machine go to sleep from the command line, but it failed, only a reboot got everything working again.
So, does anyone know if what could be the problem? Are the stall and the logged message related? If not why do i get that message, my friend has a indentical G5 and he does not get that message.

I think i'm closer to figuring it out.
    Apr 27 06:57:02 quad kernel[0]: PowerMac112SlewCtrlLoop::setVoltageSlewIndex - slew request timed out
I can be using the computer for weeks and not have the bug appear at all.
Yesterday I Installed GeekTool which allowed me to have the System.log run in the background as a the Desktop Picture. I noticed that when I plugged my earbuds into the front panel board, the machine started having "slew request timed out" issues.
I shut down the machine, restarted, used it for a day, then plugged the earbuds, and boom, issue reproduced. It is now very consistent.
I can Reproduce it consistently by pluggin in the earbuds. (I've tried 2 pairs)
Is this a Hardware or Software Bug?

Am trying to update software through "Software Update" on my iMac (latest Lion operating system).
I keep getting message "An error has occurred. The request timed out"
How do I know if there are software dates available to down load.

Two things, bushmanernie (love the name)
First what version of Lion are you running and have you downloaded any Combo updates since you installed it.
Second; I see you only have 10.6.2 in your profile.   You might like to update it.
I don't have Lion myself but I'm guessing you don't have the very latest version.  You can check what should be available through the opening Apple support page > downloads.

  • Palm Pre crazy symptoms: "phone offline", will not charge battery, will not start, error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved"

This is a long description of a series of problems with my new Palm Pre. You may wish to search the text to find your specific issue(s). There is no solution in my post. Look for possible answers in the responses to come.
I bought my Palm Pre 4 days ago and it arrived 2 days ago. Phone worked great. Last night I plugged in the phone and updated the OS. After completion, I selected "Done" and went to bed.
    - First Series of Issues: "Phone Offline", will not charge battery -
In upper lefthand corner of the phone there is the message "phone offline". Although the phone has been charging all night it reads "26% battery". I called the general Sprint tech support number and we tried the following things:
    1) Restart phone (press and hold power button, then select "turn off". after power down, press and hold power button to power on.)
    2) Reset the phone (several different ways - call tech support so that you do this correctly)
The individual at Sprint then sent me to another tech support person, presumably 2nd tier.
    - Second Series of Issues: Error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" -
Sprint tech support person #2 also had me restart and reset the phone in a number of ways. In her words "we've tried every palm pre trick I know" and each time the phone was unresponsive. Often we received the error message "phone is offline". We did a full erase and after that the phone would no longer restart. At this point the error message came up saying "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" which referred me to for assistance. I think it's important to note here that this was not the typical error message (black screen with white letters) but rather the blue sky background with a semitransparent box over it with white text.
Sprint tech support person #2 then connected me with Palm support and the dance continued. Again we tried a whole bunch of resetting and restarting and erasing options. Palm support instructed me to go to: to download WebOS Doctor, which I did. I downloaded the file. While that was happening he had me hold the "volume up" button and plug the phone into the charger. This caused a USB symbol to appear on the phone. When the file was complete I received an error message that the file couldn't run. Palm tech support person seemed surprised. I mentioned that I was on a Mac and he said he couldn't help me. He then transferred me to another Palm support person who works with Mac users.
Palms tech support person #2 then informed me that I should have selected the "mac" download option on I verbally walked her through the whole series of webpages, telling her that it says that you need Windows (version whatever) or Mac (version whatever) but that at no time was there an option to download a different WebOS Doctor for different operating systems. After some more discussion she told me she would have to have someone call me back tomorrow.
    - Third Series of Issues: phone stuck on USB symbol -
So at the moment the phone is completely useless. Not fantastic. I booted up the mac in Windows 7 and downloaded WebOS Doc and received the same error. I also ran Windows Vista virtually and received the same error. Later this afternoon I'm heading into work to try the same thing on Windows XP.
In the meantime, I got onto this forum and located a thread that provided a direct link to the necessary file:
After downloading that file, which I realized could totally be a virus, I was able to get WebOS Doc working on my computer. It required that I recharge the phone completely before beginning and now it's on the screen that says "Don't disconnect your phone" and the file is at 3% complete. Only... it's been at 3% complete for almost 30 minutes.
I am hoping that Palm will follow up with me tomorrow, but I'm leaving at 7am on a business trip and would love to have the thing working. Any suggestions are welcome, even if you can just tell me how to get the think disconnected safely before my flight tomorrow. I don't fancy getting through security with my phone wired to my laptop.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Our phone support is open every day Monday through Sunday, although there are different hours of operation for the weekend. If after a webOS Doctor reset you are still experiencing the same problems, I would likely recommend replacement, either in a local store for your carrier or through our technical support department.
There may be additional technical support offered or suggested over the phone, this would need to be done first before a replacement could be issued.
    Hope this helps,
