How to set duration of multiple tasks

Hello all.  I am a new LabVIEW user and have a question on how to set a duration of a specific task and then initializing the start of another.  I am using an Agilent N3300A load and I would like to simulate the "power-up" of the device I am working on.  I want the code to start at 15A and then after approximately 1-2 milliseconds automatically drop down to 7A and continuously run.  I am using GPIB and have set up a code to continuously run, but have not been able to achieve my goal.  When I try to set up my timing, I can only achieve some sort of offset for each measurement.  I've been attempting to use a timing loop, but do not entirely know how those work.  Is there a simple solution that I am not aware of?  Thank you to all of you who can help.

Do you know if your load can be programmed to do the current transition for you? I have a Sorensen that has two programmable levels which can be set to constant current, resistance or power. You can program it to go from one level to the other after a programmable time. You can also program the rising and falling slew rates independantly. The load has an analog 0-10V input that can be connected to a function generator, arbitrary waveform generator or one of the NI DAQ cards so that you can make any current waveform you want.
Although I am not familiar with Agilent loads I would be surprised if they can not do something similar. If your load has this capability then that is definately the way to go. Even with LabVIEW Real Time you will have to consider communications latency issues especially if they are not deterministic.

  • How to set duration on multiple still images?

Is there a way to select a range of stills within a project and set the duration of them all to the same value. One can copy the image adjustments from a still and then paste that to multiple stills, but there isn't a Paste Adjustments menu item for duration.
The only way I've found to accomplish this is rather clumbsy. Copy the selected images to a new project and then with the project properties set all the durations to the same value there, and copy them back into the original project. This also limits the choices for the duration to whole seconds between 1 and 10, so if you want 1:15 we're out of luck apparently.
    Is there a better way?
Also the min. duration seems to be 0:08. Setting the duration to anything less results in the duration being set to 0:08.

AFAIK there is no easy way to set a range of clips to the same duration. The only method within iMovie I know of was the one outlined above, copy to a new project, set all in that project and copy back to original project. That works but is slow and a clumsy way to do it.
What's missing is a paste duration command and/or a setting in the dialog to set duration for the selected photos (plural since the range has yellow outlines around the thumbnails, says to me they are the selected photos).
Also the values as x:ff are not seconds. It's seconds and frames. So ff can only range between 0 and 29, thus 8.97 isn't a valid value and when I used it to set a duration the duration ended up being 11:07. I understand the 11 (90 additional frames, thus 3 seconds more) with 7 additional frames.
Apparently you can not set a duration of just a single frame in iMovie - no subliminal messages allowed I guess. (There were no transitions between the images.)

  • How to change duration of multiple photos

Greetings - I'm trying to change the duration of multiple photos in iMovie. Basically, I'm trying to change the duration of about 300 images (to make a time-lapse movie), but can't for the life of me figure out how to do it.
I need to change the duration of every photo to 0:03, but when when I do so, it automatically imports the photos with a duration of 9:29, and I can only change the duration of individual photos after import. I made a time-lapse move a while ago but can't remember how to do it. Any thoughts?

Select a group of your stills in the time line. (I would do maybe 30 at a time, because to do the whole 300 at once might overwhelm the machine -- though you could try.) Then go to Media > Photos > Show Photo Settings. In the Show Photo settings dialogue box, set your duration to 0:03, and then hit Update. The selected photos should all update to 0:03. You may need to remove the transitions first.
Another way would be to set your duration for 0:03 on the first photo that you import into your timeline. Then all other photos that you import afterwards will have that same duration.

  • How to set duration of text animations?

Scenario:  As part of my learning PrE 9 I tried to create what is essentially a slide with some bullet points. This consists of three lines of title text that I wanted to scroll onto the screen one after the other and then sit for about five seconds before the title shot ended.
However, it appears that you cannot treat the lines of text as individual objects (assuming each line is an individual text box) as you would with KeyNote or Powerpoint.
It appears there are three approaches to using the text manipulation for titles:
    Animating with the roll/crawl menu
    Animating with effects
Animating the whole title clip (is that the correct term?) by using keyframes together with motion and opacity
It seems that none of these allow you to sequence three lines of text so that they appear one after the other with specified durations unless you create three distinct title clips that appear one after the other. So that in for the first you would scroll on the first line, in the second title clip you would make the first line static and roll on the second line and then in the third clip you would roll on the third line while lines one and two were static. Then to get a static display you would create a fourth title clip in which all the lines were static.
    Is my understanding correct?
I've searched through the documentation and don't see any way to set sequence and durations of individual lines of text.
    Thanks.

You are correct - one cannot do multiple lines of Text in a Title, and then apply animation Presets.
In PrE, I would create the Title in Photoshop, or PhotoshopElements, where each line is a Layer, and the Background is Transparent. Then, Save each Layer as a separate PSD, to be Imported into PrE. Then, just animate each PSD individually, with Keyframes for the fixed Effects>Motion>Position and possibly Motion>Scale. With the Keyframes, you can pause, speed up, and totally control the animation.
The reason for doing this in PS/PSE, is that it's so very easy to align the Text Layers to each other.
One can do this in Titler, but I would suggest using alignment grids, or similar, to keep things aligned. This ARTICLE will give you some tips, and even some alignment grids.
The Title Animation Presets are very limited, and I seldom even think of using them.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to set emails for multiple users?

    Hello,
We have a scenario, where there are several users whose email is not set in "My Account". We want to set this in one shot, what is the best bet for us?
Also we want to send email to a person outside OBIEE infrastructure, how can we do this?
    Please reply

I've found the same problem in OS X Lion, with Mail, iCal and Address Book getting confused when two Exchange accounts on the same server are configured, resulting in either missing or duplicate entries (despite everything appearing fine when accessing the accounts individually via Outlook or OWA).  iOS doesn't have any problem with this setup; two Exchange accounts on the same server work perfectly; the issue seems specific to Mac OS X.
After some experimentation I've found a workaround.  Since the issue crops up with two Exchange accounts on the same server, it seems possible to trick OS X into thinking the accounts are on two separate servers through a little DNS manipulation (which I realize may not be a practical option for everyone).  Here's what resolved the issue for me:
My external and internal DNS FQDNs for the mail server were mail.mydomain.com.
    I set up a new DNS entry - mail2.mydomain.com - as a CNAME for mail.mydomain.com.
On my Mac, I set up Exchange account #1 with the server set to mail.mydomain.com.
I then set up Exchange account #2 with the server set to mail2.mydomain.com.
Even though both FQDNs resolve to the same IP, this seems sufficient for Mac OS X to consider them as separate servers, elliminating the problems I had before when I set both Exchange accounts to the same mail server FQDN.
I've only tried this on OS X 10.7 Lion, and the recent 10.7.1 update, although I wouldn't be surprised if the same trick works for earlier versions of OS X.

  • Setting duration of multiple photos imported from iPhoto albums

in iMovie 5, i had no problem importing the photos from my iPhoto albums, and adjusting the 'Photo Settings' to what i needed, about 0:05 or 0:06. It seems in iMovie 6, that is no longer possible. Other posts here have mentioned setting of 0:03 or 0:11, but if not, it will default to some other value.
Anyway, in iMovie 5, i had no problem changing the duration to play each picture to the value i wanted, typically selecting all the photos in the project, and moving the slider bar or entering the exact value i wanted (0:00:05). That's not possible in iMovie 6, as far as i can tell. The only way i've found is to select each photo individually, 'get info', and set the value. The project is thousands of photos from 2 webcams of a building construction, creating a time-lapse video. I'm not about to select each of 25k photos to input a value...
I've seen the mention of using QuickTime Pro to do something similar. Is that the only option, or is there a way to do this with iMovie6. We only bought iLife '06 to complete the project (and upgraded, including updating all iPhoto albums & iMovie projects to newer versions), as iMovie 5 was not able to handle the large # of photos.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    - me

However, dragging the 5 photos to the clip area, they go back to that same 9:29 default...
Very strange. Instead of dragging the photos, try clicking the Apply button in the Photo Settings window.
That probably won't work. Something is causing iMovie to "stick" at 9:29. Drag the duration slider to a time less than 9:29 and import an image. Then save the project. Now do the routine I described earlier. It might start working.
If still no luck, quit iMovie and trash the iMovie preference file. It's located in your UserName/Library/Preferences folder. It's called "com.apple.iMovie.plist".
It contains the last Ken Burns settings. Discarding the preference file will force it return to a new default duration setting. One that works, hopefully. Then do the routine I described earlier.
If it still doesn't work, something is messing up iMovie. Rule out the problems descrbed here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1852869#1852869
Problems "talking" to iPhoto can cause iMovie to fail to locate the image, but it shouldn't affect the duration.

  • How to set duration?

I want a frame of an animation to show for some seconds.
I know that by CTRL-dragging to the right I can increase its duration- however:
If the (single) frame in question is followed by other frames (on the same layer, blank frames or not) then CTRL-dragging doesn't work.
What is the usual way of solving this problem- so that the frame becomes longer and subsequent frames are "pushed" to the right, not overwritten?
    Thanks.

right click and click insert frame.  you can also select a span of frame and copy and paste those to add many more frames if adding one at a time is too slow.  and there are other ways to extend your timeline (like using f5 if you haven't customized that keyboard input).

  • How do you set the duration for multiple stills in iMovie 2013?

How do you set the duration for multiple stills in iMovie 2013?
Before upgrading to the latest version of iMovie last month, I was able to set the duation of all of the stills included in an iMovie project at one time by clicking the apply to all still box in the adjustment pop up. That option is no longer apparent. If it is available I cannot find it, and I have tried several different ways to accomplish it. I have tried the iMovie help section and can find nothing to help.
Apple, do I really have to adjust close to 500 pictures to a 5 second duration individually???
    REALLY??!!

...why wouldnt people want that level of accuracy when animating, especially when working to music at a specific duration?
Because often people are animating to words or beats in the music.  Music is rarely performed with a computer-precise beat and tempo.  Musicians aren't robots: they swing the beat sometimes.  They use rubato.  They change tempo.  They change time signatures.  As a result, you have to FIND those words and beats.  It's not a situation where you can say, "There!  I've found the duration of one beat!  Now it's easy to find the rest of them!"
If you try it, you will be very disappointed.
Try finding the precise end of a piece of music that fades or ends on a big chord with a ring-out.  You'll see that it's trial-and-error: what's the point where it becomes inaudible?  It depends on how high your speakers are turned up.  You might have them way up, you set an end point for the layer, and then you do a RAM Preview at a more reasonable volume.  You might say, "Hey!  The music ends before the layer ends!"...  but you KNOW you set the layer's out point when the audio file goes silent.
AE has layer markers that can be used on an audio layer to mark beats, words, etc. They come in very handy.
I guess it comes down to this: because AE can do so much different stuff, there are very few automated procedures.  Oh, Adobe tries with effects that convert audio levels to keyframes, but they're not 100% reliable... especially on something like a capella choral works.  For true accuracy, you need  find the timings yourself.
If you want something simpler, try a different application. But be prepared for lower level of accuracy.

  • How to set up  Planning on Multiple Servers

    Hi,
    1) I am trying to install a Finance Planning application so that it runs on one Planning Web Server and the other operations Planning application on another Planning 9.3.1 web server. Is that possilbe?
    2) May be unrelated question:
HP_Windows_Install.pdf has only a few lines explaining how to set up Planning on Multiple Servers. Is it as simple as that?
Here are the "few lines" from install.pdf:
Perform the same installation and configuration process on your secondary servers, making sure to choose
Planning Web Server component for any secondary server.
Make sure you select Reuse existing tables when prompted during the Configure a Database task
    in the Configuration utility.

    Tomcat.
But it will be nice to know the steps for Weblogic too - as Weblogic will be bundled "free" with future releases of Planning.

  • How can I use a Lookup task to lookup from my SQL Result set and have a join

So in my Control Flow, I have an Execute SQL Task which gets my Table result set. I then have a Foreach Loop Container that iterates through the result set and a Data Flow. The first task in the Data Flow is an OLE DB Source SQL Command that retrieves data
columns associated with my result set. I then do a Derived Column so I can SUBSTRING from one of my data columns and now I want to perform a Lookup to my Application Database.
How do I code my Lookup task to utilize my SQL Result set variable and match on it? I cannot use the GUI for the Lookup task as my Lookup has to have some JOINS in it.
Thanks for your review and am hopeful for a reply.

Can you expand on that? I'm sorry but I am new and a novice to the SSIS world and I want to do this as best I can and as efficiently as I can. Are you saying that Rajen's way suggested above is the way to go?
A little background....external data from a 3rd party client. I'v staged that external data to a SQL Server staging table. I have to try and match that data up to our database using SSN, DOB, and Gender...and if I can't match that way then I have to try
and match by Name. I need to make sure that there is only one and only one account for that match. If I cannot match and match one and only one, then I'll create rows on a DataAnomaly Table. If I do match, then I have to check and make sure that there is only
one and only one Member span for that match. Similarly handle the data anomaly and then check and make sure there is a "Diabetes" claim and similarly handle the DataAnomaly accordingly.
That's where I'm at. Sooooo are you saying to use Rajen's suggestion? I don't think I can do that because I need multiple SQL tasks and I cannot connect multiple OLE DB Source tasks.
Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • How to set a payload field value only once for multiple instances selected?

The user needs to set a payload field value and then he can approve the task so the task can continue through the process, that's fine when the user selects one instance and sets the value in the task details section and then clicks the approve button, but how do we achieve the same behavior in a multiple way?, I mean the user can select multiple tasks in the workspace (in this case the details task page is not available and instead the following label appear "Multiple tasks selected") then if the user clicks the Actions drop down -> APPROVE he only gets the message "your request was processed successfully", so how can the user modify the payload field value only once for all the selected tasks so when he clicks APPROVE the value is populated in all the instances selected.
    Thanks,
    Carlos.

In the action which displays the edit page just set the form idx value before displaying the jsp.

  • How to set task to start on the same day its predecessor ends

I want my tasks with depdencies to start on the same day that its predecessor ends.
This is what I want for example (note differences in bold):
    Task 1
    Start-Finish Date: 3/3 - 3/5
    Task 2
    Start-Finish Date: 3/5 - 3/6
    Predecessor: Task 1
This is what MS Project sets it as default:
    Task 1
    Duration: 3/3 - 3/5
    Task 2
    Duration: 3/6 - 3/7
    Predecessor: Task 1
How do I change this? Sorry, the bold doesnt work on this forum (Not sure why MS did this)
    MS Project 2013

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
Please change the date format to show time, which will help to show start time and end
time along with dates. You can add time using below steps.<o:p></o:p>
Project 2010/2013: Click on File >> Options >> under general tab select the date format to show date and time<o:p></o:p>
    Project 2007: Tools >> Options >> View >> Date Format<o:p></o:p>
By default task start time is 8 AM and end time is 5 PM. So if Task 1 finish date is 3.6 5:00 PM then the next task will start on next day 8 AM.<o:p></o:p>
You can change the duration of task1 to 1.5 days which will help to end the task on 3.6
12:00 PM and then the task2 will start on same day. <o:p></o:p>
I would not recommend changing the start and end date/time for task manually
as doing that will add constraint to the tasks. Instead of that you should change the duration for tasks and let MS Project calculate the dates for tasks.<o:p></o:p>
    Hope this helps.<o:p></o:p>
    Thank you,<o:p></o:p>
    Kiran K.<o:p></o:p>

  • How we set up multiple websites on OSX Server

    BACKGROUND
After fiddling and futzing around for weeks (actually since last year) I've finally figured out how to set up multiple websites (virtual sites) using one port and one IP address. While there seems to be lots of discussion on this topic, it seems that the basic assumption is that one knows everything about websites, DNS and all that stuff, which I do not.
When our network was originally established the engineer set up a wiki and also configured webmail, so we had two sites, one secured for mail and the other open for Calendar and the wiki. We were not hosting any websites locally because our school website is hosted by a company in New England.
This year I wanted to set up websites for teachers and students. As great as the wiki is, there are some things it just can't do as well as a website. So I figured if I set up the sites teachers could link back and forth from one to the other. In addition kids could now start to use a real website instead of the cobbled together file mess I had when we ran a Windows network. Also iWeb is a much more accessible tool than FrontPage.
    SERVER SIDE:
    Snow Leopard Server - 10.6.4
There are two - actually three pieces if you want your iWeb clients to connect to the server: Server Side Web Services, DNS and, in my case, FTP.
================================================ SERVER SIDE - WEB SERVICES
If you haven't turned on Web services, you'll need to open Server Admin and do that. If you don't know how to set up web services - just reply and I'll step you through that as well.
Once web services are set up and turned on, you'll see it listed under your server’s name in the Server Admin sidebar. Click on "Web" and then click on the "Sites" tab at the top of page. This is where you list all your sites.
Click the plus button and enter the fully qualified name of your site, for example: "students.myschool.org". Don't use the defaults here (no name) - that's what got me in trouble before. BE SPECIFIC!
You'll be looking at the "General" tab (the other tabs, "Options", "Realms", etc. we'll deal with in a second).
On the "General Tab", the default IP address ("any") and port (80) is just fine. We'll run everything over port 80. (Apache figures all the virtual site stuff out - you don't need your rocket science degree for that.)
"Web Folder:" is important because this is how you'll "segment" your websites. While I would NEVER do this again, we have a solid state hard drive for the OS and a RAID array for our data files. IF you have that, make sure you do NOT use the default "Web Folder" because it will store all your files on your solid state drive. There may not be enough room, over time, on that drive. I've not experienced it yet, but it's my understanding that if the drive fills up, the server shuts down.
I store my web sites on a folder on the RAID array.
Everything else on that tab can be left as the default. (Just make sure that you have an "index.html" or "index.php" file in your web folder root, but iWeb will take care of that for you.)
I would put in your email address in the "Administrator Email:" field.
Under "Options" you really don't have to put anything. I've tested making websites with iWeb and it doesn't appear that anything needs to be checked.
Nothing needs to be entered in "Realms" as well from what I see working w/ iWeb.
The defaults in "Logging" are fine.
You can leave "Security" alone, but we do have a (self-issued) certificate listed for our webmail site.
"Aliases" is important. Under "Web Server Aliases" you enter how you want the site to respond to when users type in a URL in their web browsers.
When our web server was initially set up the engineer set up "wiki.myschool.org" on port 80 and "mail.myschool.org" on port 443. In the aliases section was nothing but a "*" (the wildcard character). That means, from what I can figure out, that the webserver will respond to these sites regardless of what is typed in the URL. (Well, something like that - point is, if you create OTHER websites, you'll NEVER get to them because the wildcard character in the "Aliases" section, in effect, grabs those web requests and redirects them to the sites that are already there.
In my case I deleted both of those wild card characters. For my "wiki.myschool.org" site, I entered "mail.myschool.org". That means if you type EITHER "wiki." or "mail.", go to the site that’s stored in the “Web Folder” we set up when those sites were created.
For "mail.myschool.org" I just DELETED the wildcard character. I wanted that site (since it was secured) only to respond to "mail." - nothing else. (You're not going to that secured site for any other reason than to get your mail.)
"Proxy" can be left blank. Have no idea what that does. As time permits I'll do some research and figure out what it's used for.
"Web Services" is if you want to provide any MORE services to this particular site. Most likely you'll want to uncheck all the boxes. For our "wiki." site, we have checked "Wikis", "Blogs", and "Calendar". For our "mail." site we have those checked PLUS "Mail".
I would create a separate "Web Folder" for each of your sites. I don't know if that's a requirement but for housekeeping purposes, I would keep the sites separated. And I SUSPECT that it's "best practice" to separate your wiki from your other websites.
    SERVER SIDE - DNS
OK...now you have to make your site reachable and the only way to do that is to set up DNS so that folks don't need to type in the IP address of your web server. You need to set up DNS inside your network and, if you want folks in the outside world to reach your website, you'll need to set up an external DNS as well. I'm going to cover INTERNAL DNS - if you don't know how to set up EXTERNAL DNS - reply or email me and I'll post those instructions.
Most likely you have already created Zones for you network...all you really need to do is create "Aliases" so that when you type "students.myschool.org" your web browser will know that site resides on IP address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.
If you've set up Zones then you already have a "Machine" setting that translates your server’s name to an IP address and vice versa.
All you need to do is create an "Alias" (CNAME) record for, in this case, "students". You’ll see the choices for types of records when you click the "Add Record" button.
There are only two fields to configure for a record: "Alias Name" - in this case "students" and "Destination" - in this case "servername.myschool.org". (You've already entered a machine record that says "servername" = 192.168.1.x.)
    That's it for Internal DNS.
    SERVER SIDE - FTP
Now you have to get iWeb to communicate with the webserver.
There are only three ways iWeb will communicate with webservers: MobileMe, Local Folder and FTP Server.
Local Folder is really only practical if you want to host a website on a laptop (I was blown away initially when I found out that all Macs had a built-in web server - how neat is that?). I think there are some very cool things teachers could do with configuration, and, of course, you wouldn't need to set up any web services on the web server, but that's for another discussion. You need to set up FTP services on the web server.
Turn on and enable FTP on your webserver.
You can leave the defaults for "General", "Messages" and "Logging". "Advanced" is the only thing you want to set. I set "Authenticated Users See:" to "Home Folder Only". I set the "FTP Root" to the same root folder in which I plan to store my web sites (/VOLUMES/RAID Array/WebServer/Documents). This setting sets that folder only to be accessible via FTP.
I would suggest returning to your DNS settings and adding one more "Alias". Set "ftp." to point to your webserver. Why? So folks can edit their sites from home (see below).
CAVEAT: If you are running FTP on other servers, make sure that the settings here do not conflict with the settings on the other servers. For example, I'm running FTP on my file server so that my scanners can communicate with it. However, I configure my FTP settings by machine name and NOT "ftp.myschool.org".
    ================================================
    CLIENT SIDE - CONFIGURING iWEB
Now you have to configure iWeb so that it will communicate with your server.
Click on the "Site" icon so that "Site Publishing Settings" appears.
    Publishing:
    "Publish to:" = "FTP Server"
You can set the "Site name:" and "Contact email:" to whatever you want. But see below!
    FTP Server Settings:
"Server address"=ftp.myschool.org (you could also enter in servername.myschool.org or the IP address. However, if you want folks to be able to work on the site from home, you will need to configure external DNS for that. If you use the IP address, you're out of luck for remote access to the site. (You can do it but it's beyond the scope of this discussion.)
"Username" & "Password" should be your user's network login credentials.
"Directory/Path" - this is important. Remember, you set your "FTP Root" to be "/VOLUMES/RAID Array/WebServer/Documents". If you leave this field blank then the website will be dumped into this folder. If you are only setting up one site, that may be OK. However I wanted to set up a "students" site folder, a "faculty" site folder and a separate site for our literary magazine.
THEREFORE: I have, in my ..../Documents folder (on the server), a "students" folder, a "faculty" folder, and a "litmag" folder.
SO...in my "Directory/Path:" field, I have "/faculty". That means the full path to this website is "ftp root/faculty" or "/VOLUMES/RAID Array/WebServer/Documents/faculty" (You don't need a trailing "/" character. iWeb will automatically append the folder for you user depending on what you entered in "Site Name:" in the "Publishing" area.
    Website URL:
This is the root website depending on whether it is "students" or "faculty". Since iWeb will append the site name to this root website, I accomplished what I hoped to accomplish in this post (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12288561#12288561).
Faculty sites will be @ http://faculty.myschool.org/username. Students @ http://students.myschool.org/username. PERFECT!
iWeb is such a GREAT tool - NOW the kids can start using it!
I want to reiterate that this works for our school but it should work for you as well. There may be better ways to do this but it works for us.
Hope this has been helpful and you won't have to spend weeks trying to figure this all out by yourself!

    OK...here's how we did it.
To get access to the website you created from outside your network there are a couple of steps.
First, you have to have a STATIC IP address from your ISP. If you have a T1 circuit, no problem...you usually get a couple of static IPs you can use. However, if you have a cable modem circuit, most likely you have a dynamic IP address which changes when you connect to the internet. Usually a static IP will cost a bit more because the ISP has to go through a couple of steps to set it up for you. But once you have the address, you now have a way for folks outside your network to connect with you.
(I’m also assuming that you use a router of some sort through which traffic flows out to the internet and that you aren’t using connection sharing or something like that.)
The next thing you need to do is have your new static IP address associated with the server on which you are hosting your website. You've probably already done that if your website works inside your network. However, you've associated a private ip (192.168.x.x, etc.) to your web server. That doesn't mean anything to folks on the outside because private IP addresses are just that - private - folks can't access them. (I won't get into VPN because that's a whole other topic.)
The way you associate your new static IP address to your web server is through some sort of dns application from your ISP. For example, we use TierraNet to manage our external DNS information. They have a web interface control panel that is very similar to the DNS interface for XServer. You can create CNAME records (aliases - other ways that folks can access your servers).
Basically you create an "A" (CNAME) record with a fully qualified domain name (e.g. webserver.myschool.org) and point it to your public IP address (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) which you just got from your ISP. It's going to take a while (24-48 hours) for this change to take effect. BTW, you can create as many “A” records as you want. For example mail.myschool.com and wiki.myschool.com could point to the same place.
You want to make sure that the fully qualified domain name you enter in the external dns utility matches the name you used when you created your internal dns records on your XServer.
OK...so now folks can get to your domain - but, remember, you have a private network IP scheme between them and you. You now have to tell your router that when web traffic arrives, allow it inside the network and direct it to your web server.
Let's say your public IP address is 205.100.112.50 and your web server is 192.168.0.5.
You have to create, in your router’s "Security Zone" (router companies call them different things) a couple of rules. Usually the first rule is: "Let everything inside the network get out to the web." You've probably already done that if folks inside the network can reach the internet.
You then have to tell the router to allow web traffic (port 80) into your network AND redirect that traffic to 192.168.0.5.
We use AdTran routers and they have a web interface which allows you to write "rules" affecting public and private traffic. Public is folks outside the network, private is folks inside.
AdTran calls them "Security Zones" and you modify those zones with policies.
So my "Policy" would say, in the above example, redirect traffic from my public IP (205.100.112.50) -> to my web server -> (192.168.0.5).
THEN you have to modify this policy with what AdTran calls "Traffic Selectors". You've said, OK, you can get in, but WHAT can get in?
The "Traffic Selector" is written to say: "Permit" "TCP" traffic from 205.100.112.50 only through Port 80. (That's the port that web traffic goes over. If you wanted a secure website, you'd add another traffic selector that opens port 443, for example.)
I'll tell you I'm no genius when it comes to this. I called AdTran and had them configure my router for me. I told them what I wanted done, they remoted into the router and configured it. But then I could go to the web interface and see what they did and then added rules later on when I wanted, for example, to get access to the network via Apple Remote Desktop or VPN into the network on my iPad.
I'd bet that your router has a maintenance agreement that includes this service and if it doesn't it should have.
I did find that I still had issues when I tried to set this up originally and it had to do with the ORDER of the policies. I can’t remember exactly what the issue was, but, effectively one of the policies highjacked traffic before the policy that I wanted got triggered. Simply moving them around in the list fixed that issue. So if you have this set up but still can’t access the site, check the order of your rules.
I don’t know if that helps or not, but I try to think about this stuff conceptually and then get someone to help me with the details. I work with this stuff so infrequently that I forgot how I did something 6 months or a year ago. I’m in the process of creating a wiki for the school which documents all this stuff, but that’s a major undertaking.
    Cheers,
    John

  • Need to find a calendar to schedule multiple assignments with multiple tasks set on specific days for multiple people

There may be no such animal as what I am searching for, but I thought I'd give it a try.
What I need to do is find a calendar app that allows me to have individual calendars for staff members that I can place a several-days-long assignment and have those people access remotely on an iPad or iPhone (autosync).
I also want to be able to have tasks set on specific days within that assignment that have alerts/reminders for each stage of the assignment.
Being able to custom colour each individual assignment (not just the person's own calndar) is also necessary, as these asignments overlap and need to be easily distinguishable at a glance. Each assignment needs to be its own entity and not affect any furture or previous entries, even if I choose the same colour.
It needs to be in a month by month view and be able to be something each person can subscribe to and sync up with for changes on a daily basis. It does nothave to be a calendar like in the screen shot below, it could be a linear calendar that has days across the top and assignments down the left side.....
Here is a screen shot of a rudimentary excel spreadsheet I have been using. It is awkward and becoming unmanageable as the number of assigments increases and more staff are being added on. And I must send a new spreadsheet out every time I make a change or add an assignment, which is several times a week.
I suspect I may be asking for the world, but if anyone knows a direction I can go in to start a search, I'd be grateful. I haven't had success of my own so far and need to find something soon.
iCal doesn't work for me due to the fact I can only colour code the calendar itself and not the event, plus not being able to have multiple tasks within one event. And the qty of assignments I'd have would see most getting lost, eliminating my abilty to see every staff member's assignmanet at the same time.
Thank you in advance if you have a suggestion and if not, thanks for looking at my dilemma!

  • How to set the tasks as cancelled

    Guys ,
I had a scenario , where i have written a setObjectStatus adapter which sets the status of RO as Revoked.
So i have provisioned a resource to a user and did some updates on resource profile as well , the status of the RO is provisioned and the tasks
like create user , abc updated etc ... as completed .
Now i fire the setObjectStatus adapter and it sets the RO status as revoked successfully . The check boxes like enable, disable , revoke etc are disabled as a result of setting the RO status as revoked . But the task inside doesnot become canceled.
Any ideas how to achive the cancellation of tasks as well ?
    Thanks
    'Suren

    Hi Surendra.
What did you get when you run the tcUserOperationsIntf.getObjects(userKey)? When you run this method, you'll get all object instance for a specific user, so you have to read the Object Instance.Key attribute.
Also, you can invoke the methods below of useroperationsintf:
    void revokeObject(long plUserKey, long plObjectInstanceForUserKey)
Revokes the provisioning of an object for a user directly without going through a request.
    void revokeObjects(long plUserKey, long[] paObjectInstancesForUserKey)
Revokes the provisioning of an object for a user directly without going through a request
    Renato.
