How to set relative position in Crystal Reports

Hi
We are using CR XI R2 for designing crystal reports and Oracle 9i as datasource.
we have placed 5 columns in vertical position next to one another in details section.
for ex
Salesrevenue
Company description
SalesSummary
as data fetch is dynamic whenver data in 'Sales revenue' is more it is overlapping on 'Company description' column
and so on with 'Sales summary' too.
I know that Relative postion works only when columns are placed in ROW MANNER i.e
Salesrevenue||Company description||SalesSummary but doesn't work when placed in the above manner.
Please let me know if there is any workround or any other option need to be configured to overcome this issue.

Right click the report navigator(left of your report body under design mode), and then choose 'insert a new section below', this will insert a new detail section called 'details b', put the 'Company description' into that section and third one into another new detail section.
This will let you avoid the overlap issue.

There are no BI / CR APIs that would do this for you. The way I see it, you'll have to have your own print button and populate it with the correct printer information for each user as they request the report. Of course, alternatively, use the viewer printer button and get the users to choose the correct printer.

How to set Command Timeout in Crystal report while calling from C# code

I am using Crystal report XI R2. I am calling SQL server 2005 stored procedure as source in the report. I want the report should timeout from the website if the stored procedure doesn't return resultset after 5 minute. Could you please assist how should I chnage the below code to achieve that.

Yes it is possible to use datasets. resources listed below. One hting to be aware of; Using datasets larger than about 5,000 records (depending on the report) is not advisable. Performance will potentially be an issue with datasets that are too large.

How to set formula field in crystal report

Hello all,
I develope the code in C#.NET and use SAP B1 2004C. I have a problem with crystal report. I have in crystal report one unbound field. This field is string type. I need in my code change value of this field to another text ex. ("test").
I use this code:

I've never tried to change a field of the report directly. Maybe it would solve the problem if you make a parameter field, which you can use in the formula.
You can set then the parameter field:               report.SetParameterValue("NameOfParam", valueOfParam);

How to set Excel Options using crystal reports 2008

I am trying to figure out CR 8.5 (Crystal report control) Equivalents in Crystal reports 2008 using crystal report viewer in .Net but not able to find the exact replacments.

The code that has been provided is of Report Designer Component.
RDC has been deprecated in Crystal Reports 2008.
Use the 'ExcelFormatOptions' class. It provides many options regarding exporting in an excel format.

Since there is no control for center you'll need to do the math on your own. This is just a rough draft, but you'll get the idea.
One of the things you'll need to figure out is your buffer to help you give a centered feel. We'll say that value is 50 in this case.

It's also important to 'prep' the excel file prior to connecting to it.
Give the data tab a meaningful name
Make sure the column headers are unique and that every column has a header
Delete any blank tabs
If you have trouble with Excel changing the data type of a field (say, a social security number you want to be a string value rather than a number so you don't lose leading zero) an alternative would be to save the spreadsheet file as a CSV, create a schema.ini to specify the data types for each column (example below) and use the same steps to connect except instead of choosing Excel 8.0, scroll to the bottom and choose Text. You have to make sure the CSV file is in the same folder as the schema.ini file that defines the columns.

How to hide Group Tree in Crystal Report Server.

Hi all visitors
i have created one crystal report and my report use group to summary the amount of each day.
after i use group to summary, i used text box cover the group. so my group can't click anything.
After that i upload my report to crystal report server, when i viewed my report and when i click on Group Tree, it will show the list of group (group date in crystal report) and it also can click. I don't want to show the Group Tree in Crystal Report Server.
Anybody know how to hide group tree in crystal report server?

Are you talking custom application, or infoview? If it is custom app, you would have to look at the setToolPanelViewType method. if its infoview, no direct way to change this that i know of.

How to close database connections in Crystal Reports

I am using the following code to connect to database. I can either pass JNDIName or I can provide values for others by leaving JNDI name empty.
If i use JNDI name, it will use a connection from the connection pool of App Server (in my case Weblogic), but it is not releasing the connection after use. Connection remains even if I logoff from the application. If i keep my max connections as 15 in weblogic, after clicking the page with crystal report 15 times all will remain active and users will not be able to login to the application.
If i use connectionString and others without using JNDI Name, it directly connects to database. So it creates a connection in database server directly without using connection pool of weblogic. If i check weblogic, it shows no connection in use as expected, but if i check database, i can see the no. of connections increasing everytime a user clicks a crystal report page.
When the connection touches the maximum allowed connection in server, every application using the same server goes down
How can I close the connection which was created for the viewing the report?

the sample shows how to clear RAS and Enterprise resources after viewing report.
1. If you use unmanaged RAS - as I can see you using setReportAppServer, then remove the enterprise related stuff : instantiating and cleaning code.
The sample code is meant to give you an idea on how you can release the resources after done with viewing report. In your case all you need to do for cleaning is call close() on ReportDocumentObject. The sample will need to be modified for your requirements.

How to retrieve Statistics info from Crystal Report file

In Crystal Reports designer, if you go to File|Summary Info that dialog has two tabs. The second tab is called "Statistics" which contains the following:

Actually I did understood your question. I did say that some of that info is available from the hard drive file system.
Use the Object Browser and find this source:
public System.DateTime CreationTime { set; get; }
Member of System.IO.FileSystemInfo
Looking at the properties you'll see all the info you are looking for is there. As I said, some of the info is available from the Summary API's and some are available from the file system. The file system is not CR but basic Microsoft API's. Search their help for more info on how to use them.

How to get select query for crystal report in c# code

In C#, (Visual Studio 2008 ) I need to use the native Crystal Reports objects to get the complete SQL statement as it appears when you view it in Crystal Reports.
In Crystal Reports 12.0, Go to "Database > Show SQL Query..." ... That is what I need to get via C# code. I can get bits and pieces of parameter info etc but I just want the whole SQL statement.
How to get this?

How to use CRAXDDRT.DLL in crystal report 2008?

We have purchased Crystal report 2008 Full software.
We need to insert BLOB field into Crystal report 2008 at runtime using *CRAXDDRT.DLL*.
How can I insert OLE object and bind it at Runtime using crystal report 2008?
Is it possible to insert Ole Object runtime using crystal report 2008? If yes how and if not is there alternative to perform this job.

CrxDDrt.dll is only provided in order for the Crystal Reports designer in the .NET IDE.
1) You are not licensed to use this CraxDDrt.dll
2) Even if you were, in previous versions of CR, there were licensing implications to using the craxDDrt.dll (read $$)
3) Once your project would be done, using CR 2008, you would not be able to distribute the runtime as there is no CR MSM or MSI that contains the craxDDrt.dll and it's supporting runtime.
In your original post you say:

I do not understand why you'd need to do this using the craxddrt.dll? You should be able to insert a BLOB field using the RAS SDK for .NET and CR 2008. Now, one hting you will have to keep in mind. If you insert a multipage .doc or .pdf file into the report, you will only get the first page of that document. I suggest you try this in the CR designer first. Always remember that if you can not do a certain thing in the designer, you will not be able to do it at runtime either. Giving all the limitations above, if you are still interested in doing this using RAS, let me know and I'll set you up with some resources to get you going.

How to generate Income Statement from Crystal Report

CRYSTAL REPORT 2008
I have a problem with generating Income Statement related reports from CRYSTAL.
For example,
My revenue accounts are: '411000-00-00' and '412000-00-00', my expense accounts are: '510000-00-00' and '520000-00-00'.
I'd like to generate the Income statement for Dec 1 - 31, 2008. Please advise how to generate this report. Thanks!

Currently, what I tested to generate the income statement is:
1. find out the account detail table: JDT1. My database path: Company Name -> dbo -> Tables -> JDT1
2. follow the standard report menu: add 'JDT1', show 'RefDate', 'ContraAct'; group by'Account', summarize by 'Account'.
I have the following problems:
1. with this method, I am not able to find the amount for each transaction. Because the amount does not have a name as 'RefDate' or some other fields.
2. the 'Account' and 'ContraAct' are all shown as 'SYS00000001685'. It's sysmtem message but not the actual account number or contra account number.

Setting fixed height in Crystal Reports sections

Hi,
I want to set the height of detail section in crystal report. I want to set the details section such that it must at the most accommodate 10 records in the section.
If I have only 2 records in the section, it should show 8 empty lines.
If I have more than 25 records in the section, the remaining 15 records will be placed on the next page.
After that, the footer will be printed at the end of it.

Try this:
1. You can also create a SQL expression field or use a subreport to read how many records that it returns.
2. Have 10 detail section; and
3. In each section, put in all fields; and
4. Have a running total in each section; and
5. For each field in the section, you suppress based on the running total; and
6. Do not suppress blank section; and
7. Set new page if the running total is more than > 10
