I just got a Charter Modem. Model TM822. While I was moving, my Airport Extreme was still at my old place.
I have a Linksys WRT320N I used for the initial Charter setup.
I can get my Airport to work here, but the Internet light on the Modem flashes Yellow.
Hasn't caused any issues so far but one thing I did notice.
On the Linksys there were 3 DNS servers listed.
The Airport Extreme only lists 2 and i don't see where I could add another, only change whats already there.
I tried everything above, but light on modem still flashes yellow.
I have the technicians cell phone. Told me "that shouldn't be" and gave the same advice listed above.
I'll break down and call Charter one day, see if it's on their end. NSA tracking may need a reset LMAO.

When Charter Tech goes to your site, have them connect the modem up, but do not connect the modem to your iMAC or MacBook Pro. What you want to do is connect the Airport Extreme to the iMac or MacBook Pro first with the Ethernet Cable. You have to do this to configure via Airport Utility to set up the Base Station Name & Base Station Password.
You will then create/configure a Wireless Network, create your Wireless Password that will be entered on each of your Devices, example, Apple Tv, your iPhone, etc., you want to allow access to your Wireless Network you are creating.
Wireless Security will be -> WPA/WPA2 personal or just WPA2
Enter the Wireless Password you want
Verify the Wireless Password (enter it again)
After it is created you will see it on the Airport Utility window with the name you created for it and to the left, will be a Dot (circle that will be yellow).
Next you then want to unplug the power to the Airport Extreme, and then take the end of the Ethernet cable you unplugged from the iMac or Lap top MacBook Pro and connect it to the back of the Modem.
Next unplug the power cord from the modem and wait about 5 minutes, then plug the power back into the Arris Modem and wait until all lights come back on the modem wait
about 5 minutes, then plug the power cord back to the Airport Extreme and you will see it the light blinking yellow. Wait about 5 to 10 minutes, during this time Restart you IMAC or MacBook Pro, and once it is back up click on the Airport Utility and you should see on the Airport Utility screen.
For INTERNET to the left the light should be green and you should see the Airport Extreme also appear and the light to the left on the screen should also be green. If they are, you then should be able to click on the Wireless Symbol on top of bar of the screen and click to select the Wireless Network Name you created.
If you Do Not See the light (Icon) next to INTERNET turn Green, or if you see the Internet Light Green, but the Light (Icon) next to the Airport Extreme is yellow, unplug the power again to the modem and unplug the power again to the Airport extreme and wait about 15 minutes or up to 30 minutes. Then plug the power cord back to the modem wait till all the lights light up then, plug the power cord back into the Airport Extreme and Restart your iMAC or MacBook Pro.
The Airport Extreme light should change from yellow to green. Open up the Airport Utility to see what the indicators are showing they should both be green. Again select Wireless network you created under the Wireless Icon on the top right of the screen. Open Safari and see if you are able to Route to a web page or the apple site should appear.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR AIRPORT EXTREME WAS PREVIOUSLY SET UP FOR USE WITH ANOTHER CARRIERS ROUTER OR MODEM.
NOTE: If you already had your Airport Extreme connected for example, I previously had ATT Uverse and the Airport Extreme was connected to the Wireless Router Model 3801HGV, I disabled the Uverse Wireless and used the Airport Extreme for the Wireless signal in bridge mode, as the Airport extreme Signal is much stronger than the Uverse router, and I was able to obtain a Wireless signal with the Airport Extreme way much better with no signal loss which was very very frustrating with the Uverse router.
Anyhow if you had it hooked up like this, now that you will be using it with the Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A, you will need to reset the Airport Extreme to clear out the old data it has in memory, with the previous set up otherwise it will not work. Trust me I spent 6 hours trying to make it work reading all Apple Support Community questions and answers relating to this type issue/problem others have been having trying to get their set up working. I tried all the tips, and I finally decided just to see if by chance I would be able to connect with someone with Charter Tech support who might be familiar with Apple to be able to assist me and by luck I did. He told me why it was not working and was all due the previous configuration with the ATT Uverse router was still in memory with the Airport Extreme. Finally it was 10:30 PM when I decided to call Charter Tech Support and I had been working on this since 3:00 pm pacific. I did not call them earlier as all the post I read said they never received any good help from Charter. After calling them I finished up by 11:00 PM and was able to finally connect Apple Tv, iMac, iPhones and Macbook Pro. We love our Apple Product and Happy all is connected with the new
Internet Provider Charter. I must say the speed is way way much better than it ever was with AT&T Uverse.
THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:
First you will need to unplug the Airport Extreme, then by taking the tip of a pen or paper clip end you need to push the reset button on the back of the Airport Extreme and hold it
down and at the same time plug the power cord back into the Airport Extreme count to 5 or 10 then release the reset button. Then once he light in front of the Airport Extreme stops blinking you need to plug the Ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme to your iMAC or Macbook Pro, and restart which ever one you have, then open the Airport Utility once it is back up. If you see airport extreme pop up with the old network name or it shows and yellow triangle click on the Airport Extreme ICON it will not let you configure it but will ask if you want to get rid of it or remove and just do it. Then Again restart your iMAC or MacBook Pro, open up Airport Utility again, and on the top left you should see under “Other Airport Base Stations” the MAC ID for the Airport Extreme.

I have just purchased the new Airport Extreme (August 2014) because Apple's website states
Simultaneous dual-band support.
AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.
I have number of Macs in my home from a new MacBook Pro with Mavericks to a Macbook Air with Snow Leopard (due to required software) and iPads.
So after setting up the new Extreme my new MacBook only accesses 11n as does my older Macs. I checked by holding down the option key while clicking the WiFi icon at the top of my Mac. Well, not so automatic then as I was expecting 11ac and 3 times faster access (as stated by Apple).
I then looked for some documentation for setting up but cannot find anything.
Hence my question here.
How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
At present the new Extreme is no better than my previous 2 year old one.

Assuming that it is operating correctly, 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n are broadcast simultaneously by default.
Simultaneous dual-band support.
AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.
That is advertising. The real information is usually found in the small and hard to read footnotes:
Based on theoretical peak speeds. Actual speeds will be lower.
AirPort Extreme is based on an IEEE 802.11ac draft specification. Performance based on comparison with Apple’s 802.11n products. Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11ac-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires a Wi‑Fi-enabled device. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
Since the 802.11ac signal is being broadcast only using the 5 GHz band, some users report that they have had better results by using the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then pointing their Mac to that specific signal or network. You may want to try that option.
But first as a test, please locate the MacBook Pro about 10-15 feet or 3-4 meters from the AirPort Extreme with clear line-of-sight between the two devices. Restart both the AirPort Extreme and the Macbook Pro and then check to see if the Mac is connected to an 802.11ac signal.
If not, please power off your other wireless devices...computers, mobile devices, etc. temporarily, and try the same test again.

How do I set up Airport Extreme with cable modem and router?

I'm having a house built and all of the wiring for TV, phone, and internet will be centralized in a closet. The cable modem can be placed there as well. In one room in the basement I want to use my Airport Extreme for my iMac and USB external hard drives. In another location of the basement, I'd like to set up a Time Capsule for another desktop and USB printer. If the cat5e comes out of the wall at each location, I "think" I need a router at the closet location. I also thought I might need an Airport Express upstairs on first or second floor to boost signal for my laptop. The house isn't that big so maybe that's overkill. So beyond the router question, do I want to set up a roaming network and have the Airport Express connected via ethernet or just wireless if the thought is that I need this? Finally, if I should connect cable modem to router to Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, etc., in what order and ports does the equipment get connected? Many thanks!!

It would be best to position the cable modem and main router in the central location like the closet if possible. The other devices would connect via ethernet to the wall jacks in each room.
If you could setup a "roaming" wireless network as you mention, this will give you better wireless performance and coverage. This is the way commercial establishments like airports, businesses, etc. are configured for wireless.
The order of connection would go something like this: ethernet connection > cable modem >main router>devices. Devices could be computers, routers, a backup device, etc. Since the Extreme has only 3 LAN ports for ethernet connections, you will also need to plan to install an "ethernet switch" near the location of the main router to provide enough ethernet jacks. If you are planning to use DirectTV, etc or your audio/video devices require ethernet connections (most new products do for updates and extra features), be sure to plan for that as well.
Make sure that CAT5e or CAT6 wiring is run so you will be able to take advantage of faster gigabit speeds.
Finally, it would be a good idea to work with an IT specialist to go over your plans to make sure all the bases are covered. This would be money well spent.

Hello al, l I have an existing wireless network with an arcitonic wireless router provider with my fios tv. Everything is working well. Now I want to add airport extreme to increase my network range and later add apple tv /net flicks I,m not great with this stuff. Some wold be great.

You will need to establish a permanent Ethernet cable connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on the Fios router to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme and then configure the AriPort Extreme to "Create a wireless network".
You can configure the AirPort Extreme to provide another separate wireless network if you wish, or if you assign the same wireless network name, and use the same security setting and password that the Fios is using, the Extreme will provide more wireless coverage....and you won't have to change wireless networks to connect to the wireless on the Extreme.
Follow the guided setup using AirPort Utility to "create a wireless network". The setup will suggest that you configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode, which would be the correct setting when used with the Fios router.

How do you set up airport extreme with a windstream all in one modem with the wireless router built in

I have a wireless network that I want to extend so there will be wifi coverage all over the whole house. I want to use the airport extreme to do so. so far all i can get to work is the airport making another network via a eithernet cable that is pluged into one of the ports on the windstream wireless router/moden (all in one you plug the phone line into this and it has the wireless built in) and the other end is in the WAN port of the airport. I guess the real question is do I need to change any settings on the windstream wireless router/modem to do so. Every time I select all the options to extend a network wirelessly I keep getting errors.

The Airport Extreme can not wirelessly extend a 3rd party router, it can only extend another Apple router. If you can somehow keep the two connected via ethernet, you can setup a roaming network. A roaming network is essentially "extending" your network by using an ethernet cable to bridge the two routers.

I Just purchased a Airport Extreme and what to use it on my current cable broadband network. But i have a few issues with doing this, due to my exsisting setup.
Here is my current set up.
NetGear CG3100D-2 which i have 2 Port forwards set up on this router (i have 2 CCTV DVR's connected via ethernet to this router, so i can remotley view DVR's).
2 Apple TV's ( 1 connected via ethernet and 1 wifi)
Multiple wifi devices.
Here is what i would like to achieve on my Network.
I want to be able to remotley access my 2 CCTV DVR's and also be able to access my AEBS-USB External HDD Remotely.
I have tried so many ways of connecting AEBS but havent be able to achieve what i want from my network..
I have spent hours trying to do this so any help or information would be much appreciated.
If the solution is difficult to set up could i get some step by step direction on how to achive this if possible..

My gut feel is that the bottleneck is the link from your home to your ISP. Airport will not address that issue.
I'm not familiar with AT7T U-verse. Is that DSL or cable. If it's DSL, be aware of the following... The nominal data rate is 700Kbps. Optional (extra cost) versions are available at 3Mbps and 5Mbps. In all cases, these nomal rates are valid only if you live in a tent on the phone company's central office. Physical distance from the C.O. will reduce the actual rates.
Nominal cable rates range from around 3Mbps to as high as 30Mbps, depending on how much you're paying for the service. Unlike DSL, these nominal data rates do not change with distance from the provider. However, also unlike DSL, the cable data rates will change when neighbors are using the system as the facility is shared. (With DSL, you have your own physical wire pair to the C.O.)

Set Up Airport Extreme with Static IPs and DHCP same time

I have Verizon Fios to my Business with 5 Static IP Address. One of them must be assigned to the Airport Extreme Base Station. I have 5 iMacs needing internet connection of which 2 need to use a static ip,( Filemaker Server and my Mac OS X Web Server). I also use 2 iPhones with a custom App accessing that FileMaker Server via the internet too. I want to set up my Airport Extreme Base Station to have those 2 iMacs connected with static ips , which must NEVER CHANGE, via an ethernet cable and all the rest wireless with WiFi. Do to the size of my building I also want another Airport Extreme or Express to just expand the range from the Base Station for the wireless connections only. Looking at the Airport Internet Settings I only see 3 options for Connection Sharing, "Share A Public IP Address", "Distribute a range of IP addresses", "Off (Bridge Mode)". I'm thinking I need to give 1 IP Address to the Base Station, 2 ip addresses to my servers, then 1 ip address to share for my wireless DHCP connections. The additional Airport set to Off(Bridge Mode) to expand the base station. Please advise on how I would set up that base station to do this.

With respect to expanding the base stations range, in the Base stations Wireless Settings I would click to select "Allow this network to be extendeded". Then what settings would I need in the Additional Airport?
Note: Both AirPorts would have to be 802.11n models in order for this to work. The additional AirPort would need to be configured to extend the Extreme. (ref: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless > Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network)

Using the "extend" feature is intended to expand the wireless range of an AirPort with another wirelessly. You would not need to connect them by Ethernet. In this configuration, the additional AirPort would be in bridge mode and will pass through the IP information from the other base station's DHCP service.

Hi, I am not a networking expert so if I ask a silly question please forgive me. I am trying to set up my airport extreme as the main router in my house. I have an airport express as an extender for the second floor. I just upgraded my Internet service and they installed an arris tm602. I connected my a/p extreme and had the double NAT error. Internet Access worked when i chose ignore this but I wasn't happy with this. What I can see happening is that the apple base station was getting a192.168.0.x ip address and anything below that apple gave out the typical 10.x.x.x. And, I had visibility on all my apple devices. I figured this may be slowing my network down. So i tied to fix this. When i fixed this, following instructions by changing to bridge mode the double NAT error is gone but now i have no visibility on my apple devices and everything is on the 192.x.x.x subnet. I want my apple router providing dhcp - Not the arris as now I only get the hex Hardware id of each unit.
Does anyone know how to get the arris to not serve dhcp or getting it to eliminate the NAT error without crashing it? I really want the apple hardware doing their job rather than a third party piece of hardware. I tried to remove the dhcp option and that was a mistake... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Setting up airport extremes with mobile netbook cart

I work in a school environment, running windows. We have four mobile carts in the high school. We have an airport extreme for each of the carts. In our situation, the airport extremes are mobile. They do not stay in one location all the time. The teachers connect the airports to a wired connection in their classrooms. We have the netbooks set up to automatically connect to an airport when in range. I have each of the airports setup the same way; create a wireless network, each has it's own network name, radio mode is automatic, channel selection is automatic. Internet options are connect using ethernet, connection sharing is off (bridge mode) and tcp/ip is static. There are a couple of issues we seem to be having. One is that the airport with the stronger signal is not always the one the netbook connects to. I could have one classroom of netbooks connecting to an airport that is located two classrooms down the hall when there is airport in the classroom that has a stronger signal. What could be causing this? We push out settings to the netbooks via group policy, such as redirected desktop and network shares. When a user logs in they don't seem to get the whole policy all of the time. If you restart or logoff then login, the netbook gets the policy correctly. Could this be a problem when multiple airports are in range of the netbook trying to access the network? Is having the airports mobile, moving from one room to the next, a bad idea? Thanks for the help.

tried this but it didnt work that well, the distance between the main airport and the extenders is too long. Also, when choosing extending, it came bugging me with incorrect dhcp settings. Couldn't solve that.
So i configured allt he extremes with creating a wireless network, same ssid and same wpa settings. Als bridgedsetting is disabled.
That seems to work. Anyone with an opinion about this configuration?

How to Set Up AirPort Extreme 802.11n only Network

I purchased a used AirPort Extreme base station and a used AirPort Express off eBay to upgrade my home network. Both are the latest model AE (dual band II, firmware 7.5.1) and AX (802.11n, firmware 7.4.2). I want to use my AE as main router (Internet connection, DHCP) and use my AX to wirelessly extend network to my family room, where I have my Xbox accepting only wired network. And I want AE and AX to communicate through 802.11n to maximize bandwidth. Sounds easy right?
Well, I've got this set up mostly working except the 802.11n part. Not matter what I do, It seems only operating in g mode. I made my AE creating a 5Ghz network but I couldn't find this network anywhere. Not on my iPad, not on my iMac.
I'm wondering if I have a defective AE. The seller on eBay told me he used the 11n network just fine. The router is still under warranty, I'm wondering if I should ask Apple for a repair? But since I'm pretty new to Mac in general, I figure there might be something I just missed and hence this post. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I do have an AX that extends the AE network. There is nowhere on AX that I can specify radio mode, once I specified it to extend a network. I assume AX talks to AE over the n network and then extends the network to be g compatible? Sounds really strange.
Maybe not too strange. Since the AX is a single-band device, it can only extend the AEBSn's 2.4 or 5 GH radio, at a time, not both simultaneously. Since your iPhone was able to connect, most likely, it was extending the 2.4 GHz radio ... which was also configured to support "g" devices. What I haven't figured out is how, if you set the AEBSn's Radio Mode to "n only" why non-"n" are still able to connect when the network is extended.
... I chose to create a different network name for 5Ghz radio as something like: MID-EARTH (5 GHz). However I can't seem to find this network anywhere. I'm wondering why this is the case? Is my AE somewhat defective?
This may be a completely different issue than the extended network one. If you remove the AX from the network equation, wireless clients should see two different Network Names or SSIDs ... one being "MID-EARTH (5 GHz)" and whatever you called the 2.4 GHz network. That is, assuming that the client is capable of accessing both bands. If this is not the case, we would need to revisit your AEBSn's configuration settings.

Trying to set up airport extreme with a dsl modem and get DSN server not found message . Get a green light on airport but no internet modem and get

Am attempting to set up a Wi Fi network with an airport extreme. Get most of the way through the setup (have a dsl modem) but get an error that it cannot connect to the internet. Says I have a problem with a DSN server and asks for what appears to be a series of numbers. I had an old airport express working for some time and never saw this.
Decided to upgrade since the express was not powerful enough to work in the whole house.

It is always a good idea when changing out networking hardware to perform a complete power recycle of all of your networking gear.
Please try the following:
Power-down the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and computer(s). Leave them powered-off for at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to make sure that is has enough time to initialize.
Power-up (plug into power) the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes or until its status light is a solid green. (Note: The status light may continue to flash amber after this timeframe. This is ok as it may just be letting you know that some additional configuration items need to be taken care of like setting up wireless security.)
Power-up the computer(s).
Computers connected to the AEBS by either wire or wireless should now be able to access the Internet. Please post back your results.

Setting up Airport Extreme with Arescom MSN NetDSL 800 Modem

I helped a friend set up his new Airport Extreme yesterday and although we were able to get the network and internet working, we are getting the Double Nat error (amber blinking light). This was only after hours of trial and error and the only setting that gave us a successful internet connection and network was to set the Extreme to "Share a public IP address" with IPv4 configured manually and defining a DHCP range. Again, this results in a connectable network for all clients and gives access to the internet but the Extreme is telling us that there's a double NAT error.
The only info I can find about the Arescom 800 modem is that it is designed for one connection and only has two IP addresses to distribute. One for itself and one for the computer or router connected to it. So while our setup seems to work and is the most logical of the choices, the Extreme still doesn't like it. It suggests using bridging mode but that results in no IPs being distributed past the first connection to the modem (the Extreme).
Any ideas to get that beautiful green light instead of this amber error flasher?

That's the plan for now. Thanks Duane! Although I hate seeing that eyesore amber blinking light. He may end up with a new DSL modem in the near future anyway because he's thinking of upgrading his DSL service. I guess he'll just have to ignore the light for now unless there's an easy configuration option I'm missing?

Set up Airport Extreme with 2 Airport Express connected by CAT5??

I recently bought an Airport Extreme base station and an Airport Express. My plan was to use to Airtunes with my AV receiver in my basement. Unfortunately, because the distance between these two areas is long (and separated by two floors) I'm not able to get a strong enough signal with the Airport Express to use Airtunes. I bought another Airport Express to put on the middle floor of our house but the signal in the basement was still not strong enough even with this addition.
I do have a way of connecting the middle floor of our house with the basement area by a CAT5 ethernet cable. My plan now is to connect the two Airport Express modules by their ethernet ports with this cable. The Airport Express on the middle floor connects with the Airport Extreme base station wirelessly without any problems. My question is what is the proper setup for the 2nd Airport Express connected by ethernet in my basement.
Airport Tech support said this could be done. They recommended setting up a new wireless network with the 2nd Airport Express by "fooling" into thinking it was connected directly to the router but using the same network name with a different wireless channel as my Airport Extreme base station. This setup actually works for several hours but then the Airport Express module that is connected to the Airport Extreme blinks amber. Interestingly the 2nd Airport Express with usually remain with the green light on.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to set this up regarding network configuration with the Airport Utility?

That will work with as long as the AirPort Express (AX) is connected via Ethernet. The only other setting you need to make is to configure it to act as a bridge (not sharing a single IP address).
If this one looses connection, then something is wrong with the AX or the Ethernet connection (cable and/or connectors).

Problems setting up Airport Extreme with RCA Modem

Can't seem to get wireless working with my Airport Extreme. I have an RCA Modem (DHG535-2) through Comcast. I can get internet through Airport via ethernet, but only when the AEBS is in "Bridge" mode. I have tried unplugging, rebooting, etc., but nothing. The most common error message I'm getting is that the AEBS doesn't have a valid IP address. I'm pretty sure I should be selecting Use DHCP, but I'm not sure whether I need Share IP address, Distribute or Bridge. Also, when I connect via the ethernet, it looks like the IP address changes every time I reset the connection. Is this normal? I don't believe I have a unique IP address or else Comcast probably would have told me.
I've also tried resetting the AEBS to no avail. The modem does not have a typical reset button, but rather one called "REBOOT EMTA", which has kept me away from pushing it, ha! I'm very disappointed with the AEBS. I hardly ever have issues with Apple products. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Would hate to have to replace the Airport with my old blue Linksys router.

I'm not at home so I can't look at my own setup, but for my cable modem, I also have an RCA Modem (about two years old). I have it set to just get the IP address automatically, which it did the first time I plug in an Airport Express to it. I just upgraded to a Time Capsule, and all I had to do was turn the modem off and on, and it automatically works.
I would start over and try again.
Also, to reset my Airport Express to factory settings, it has a small button on the bottom that I just hit (with a tip of a pen) for five seconds and it resets. I would think the AEBS has something like that?
