How to synchronize several compiled LabVIEW VIs with trigger?

- We have a timer (LabVIEW-VI).
- We also have several different other files who should listen to the timer.
Triggering with notifications wont work because copilation gives an own thread for each app. Notifications work only in the same thread...
Triggering with a global doesnt work also!
Seems to be the same problem...
Someone have an idea how to send a trigger from one compiled VI to another?
(We dont want to communicate over a file by the way.. )

I'm assuming that you're talking about built applications (.exe files) since all VIs are compiled. To communicate between applications, you can use ActiveX, TCP/IP, or datasocket. Datasocket might be the easiest. Set the time program to be a datasocket writer and have a datasocket read in the other programs.

I'm so sorry, but the "Modal Parameter Extraction Labview VIs" is not supported by LabVIEW 2010.
Since it will unlikely be updated for 2010, we have to ask you to install LabVIEW 2009 with the LabVIEW Advanced Signal Processing Toolkit and LabVIEW System Identification Toolkit in order to use the package.
Although I cannot guarantee, but I'll send an update request to the R&D.

How can I look at old labview Vis and tell what version they were written with?

Someone gave me some code from about 1998/99...need to determine what version it was writtern in and if I can run the same vi with labview 8.0?

For the second part of your question " ...and if I can run the same vi with labview 8.0", the logical procedure would be to simply try to open it in LabVIEW 8.0. Takes a few seconds for an instant answer.
Most often, this works without any problems. In the worst case the VI is slightly broken and you need to tweak a few minor things.
What does the code do? Is it plain computation? Does it involve interaction with hardware (DAQ, etc.)?

How to use Point-by-point VIs with hardware-timed AI VIs

I want to use PtbyPt VIs for fast real-time analysis of biopotentials. I looked through a bunch of examples, but none of them had any AI instruments. All of the PtbyPt VIs have a "set of input data" terminal. How should I connect this terminal to an output of an AI VI? I don't want to use AI Single Scan because I want to use hardware timing. Should I use AI Read VI by reading one scan at a time in a loop and feeding this scan to an input of a PtbyPt VI?

How to synchronize my mc (OSX 10.9) with my IPod Touch IOS 4.2.1

ever since I upgraded my Mac to OS X 10.9 I can no longer synchronize my calendar and my contacts. How can I solve the problem? Thanks in advance for any good advice.

I'm sorry to say that you can't now, unless you use some sort of cloud-based service such as Google's contacts and calendar system. Apple in OS X 10.9 removed the ability to sync contacts and calendards to an iOS device using iTunes via USB or WiFi, instead depending on iCloud, but since iCloud won't work on an iPod that can only run iOS 4.2.1, that's not an option for you.

How to synchronize a graphic on one layer with an effect on another

Hi. I'd like to use the bulge effect on my main layer to create distortions in the underlying graphic. I'd also like to synchronize this with the image of a magnifying glass or other lens so that when I mover the lens around, the main image distorts / bulges beneath it. Not sure if I should place the magnifying glass on its own layer (or the same layer as the main image). Also not sure how to go about parenting an effect (like bulge) to an object / image (like a magnifying glass).

As to the Search function, I usually do try to search first because I understand these forums are pretty much run by volunteers who are giving freely of their time and expertise. That said, I rarely find what I need. Probably has to do with how the info is indexed, plus my overall lack of familiarity with After Effects at this point. For instance, I just tried putting in "linking a layer to an effect on another layer" or something like that. That pulled up a list of 20 or so items. There were a couple of links to Expressions, and that probably would have tipped me off to the right answer.

I would assume that the instrument has some sort of buffer that could store data while you are trying to download it. If this is not possible, you could use one of our DAQ cards to acquire data.

How can you simple install the LabVIEW Toolboxes with LabVIEW 7.1

Hello, yesterday was a nice day, I have receved the NI Developer Suite Professional Control Edition with the new LabVIEW 7.1, RT 7.1, DSC 7.1 etc.
I still use Labview 7.0 (Developer Suite Professional Control Edition)
Unfortunately I can't install the Toolboxes from the toolbox cd into the right directory!
Always when I try to install a toolbox, it will be installed into the LabVIEW 7.0 directory. It is not possible to change the directory (exeption: SPC-Toolbox) Even if you change the name of your LabVIEW 7.0 Directory, the toolbox produce a new folder LabVIEW 7.0 and is getting instaled into this directory!!
So please dear LabVIEW Developper think a bit more, when you release new software the nex
t time...

Something is wrong about the registry keys of LabVIEW on your machine. Specifically the path string under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\LabVIEW\7.1" should point to the LabVIEW 7.1 directory on your machine.
On VIAnalyzer and Report Gen Toolkit, when you install them, pick LabVIEW 7.1 directory on "Destination Folder" dialog. See attached screenshot. That should install it in proper location.

I have a trigger which will update/insert the data into a Oracle table.
I have an interface which normally moves the data from Oracle table to SQL Server table.
Is there any way which will update/insert the data into SQL Server table whenever any trigger fires on Oracle table.

ODI's CDC capabilities can be used to propogate changes from Oracle to SQL Server. If your trigger inserts/updates on an oracle table, then ODI's CDC should pick that up. If you have a scenario which does a WaitForLogData on your Oracle table, it can kick off the interface to transfer the journal data whenever that happens.

How can I compare more than two VIs at the same time. I am an Lab Engineer I have to check assignments submitted by students and I want to know how many of them are copied from each other. Labview compare VI can only compare two VI at a time while I want to check about 30 VIs at same time.

I'm not aware of a tool to compare multiple VIs. If you don't find anything, consider posting this to the LabVIEW Idea Exchange to expose this idea directly to NI R&D.

How to read and write data from Excel to TestStand without using LabVIEW VIs

How can I read in columns of data from Excel into a TestStand array and write columns of data to Excel from TestStand without using LabVIEW VIs?
I don't think the Property Loader custom step type in TestStand will work because the data I would like to read in from Excel is in a column that is thousands of rows long and the data has to be in the proper format to use the Property Loader to load in an array from Excel.

That example does not use LabVIEW and it does about 40% of what you need to do by calling Excel through ActiveX. If you don't know how to use Excel through ActiveX then you'll need to brush up on that.

As long as you don't use platform specific tools (such as IMAQ vision, ActiveX...), or advanced DAQmx functions, LabVIEW portability between platforms is excellent.
On MacIntosh, LabVIEW works fine with virtual PC, but is very slow (5-10 times...). Try it and see if it suits you needs.

A. Rafiq's reply / answer is just exactly what I was looking for as well. I'm using it with VBA for an Excel application.
Note that the differences between this and the "not compiled" VI is that the application is the compiled application name, versus LabVIEW.
Additional information:
Remember that when you build the application, it puts the VI(s) in a wrapper app, which requires the Run-Time Engine.
In order to access the VI, you have to get a reference to it. Doing this starts the app.
Now the VI's methods and properties are exposed.
With the GetControlValue and SetControlValue
methods of the VI you can access all of the controls on the front panel.
Remember that the values returned from the GetControlValue method are of type Variant.
If you find you h
ave some trouble getting data in or out of your (LabVIEW) ActiveX server app, you can also easily write a VI to access the server.
Remember that if you want to run these, the ActiveX server (LabVIEW) and the VB client app, on a remote machine you must:
Install on the target machine the LabVIEW RTE (which you can include with Application Builder.
Running the server app once on the remote machine before running the client is a way for the server app to register itself (at least in LV 5.1).

How do I search all LabVIEW VIs in a TestStand sequence?

I have a TestStand sequence that calls a hierarch of other TestStand sequences, and many of these call LabVIEW VIs. I want to perform a LabVIEW search on all VIs in this hierarchy.
If I could programmatically list all these VIs, I could take it from there by opening all the VIs then performing the search. Is there a way to do this?
