  • How to password protect a zip file

How can I password protect a zip file and if I email the file will the recipient need the password?

I found a nifty tip to encrypt a zip file that is built into OSX.  The only issue is you have to use the command line (Terminal).  If you don't mind a little tinkering here is how you can encrypt your files to an encrypted zip without buying any other program.
    1. Open up a Terminal window on your mac
    2. Navigate "cd" to the directory where the file you what to make an encrypted zip file.
    3. Type:
         zip -e SecretEncryptedFile.zip FileToEncrypt.txt
Note: the man pages have more than you ever wanted to know about the zip command: "man zip"
To unencrypt simple double click on the file and type the password.  I have also unencrypted the files on a PC.

  • How to create a split zip file?

    Hi,
Does anybody know how to create a split zip file using only Java?
Lets say I have a file that compressed has a size of 10MB and I need to split it into small files of 1MB each... and then be able to open and uncompress it using winzip or any other compressing tool.
I know how to create a zip file using java.util.zip but I cannot split it...

  • Set the password for zip file in unix

    Hi All,
I have used the below command to zip the file and it is working fine.
    cd /YYYY;zip -r ZZZZ.zip ZZZZ.TXT
While using the below command to set the password on zip file , I am getting error like "zip error: Invalid command arguments (encryption not supported)

    Thanks,

Do you use any characters in the password that might confuse the zip command? (like '-' or ';'?)
If I use the command in RHEL4:
    cd /tmp
    zip -P password -r tt.zip gconfd-oracle
    adding: gconfd-oracle/ (stored 0%)
    adding: gconfd-oracle/lock/ (stored 0%)
    adding: gconfd-oracle/lock/ior (deflated 67%)

  • How do i unzip a pages.zip file?

Whenever I export a .pages file from PAGES it converts it to a pages.zip file. I find it impossible to unzip these files to recover the original document winzip and other unzip apps produce about  dozen files none of which are the original document. What am I doing wrong?

The zip files contain a compressed folder; Pages uses a package structure for its documents. Unless you specified a format other than Pages when saving or exporting it, it's not meant to be opened from outside of Pages.

  • Getting access to encrypted zip files

    hey folks!
has anyone of you successfully decrypted a password-protected zip file with pure java code?
if so, please give me some advice or maby some sample code that I can figure out how it works.
    thanks

sorry, I think I didn't express myself the right way.
    the problem is the following:
a zip file is created with winzip and is also encrypted with it. this zip file is the input for the tool that I write. my tool should now be able to decrypt and uncompress all the encrypted files in the zip file.
as far as I know winzip uses different encryption algorithms, so I have no idea where to start.
I have already read about this bouncy castle stuff but didn't bring my any further

  • How can i create a zip-file with multiple volumes

    Hi,
i've to zip a large file (250 MB and more). But the zip file shouldn't be greater than 5 MB, because i have to send the file via E-Mail. So i've thought, that the solution of this problem can be to zip the large file in smaller zip-files, which are multiple volumes of a zip-archive. I've searched very long in WWW, but didn't find something. Perhaps you can help.
Sorry, about the bad english. :-)
    Timo Bunger

    Hi
Who said your english is bad ?. OK, are you looking for compressing the 250 MB file in to multiple versions using a java program ?. If not, there is a shareware you can download and split the file into multiple parts by specifying size of each part. You can send these parts via email and the other person can combine these parts into a single file again.
    Find this @

  • How do I read a zipped file I have received in my mail?

    Hi
I have received a zipped word file in the mail but cannot open it. Can I fix this?
    J

You need an app that's capable of reading zipped files to open the attachment in and then unzip it e.g. GoodReader (not sure whether it deals with password protected zip files)

  • How do I open a ZIP file?

I received a ZIP file (.xlsx) from a PC user, dragged it to a folder on the desktop, and used my downloaded Unarchiver to open it. It created a new folder within the original folder. The new folder has a file (.xml) and three folders in it. I don't know how to get to a file I can open.

Hi swpolski, and a warm welcome to the forums!
The XLSX file type is primarily associated with 'Excel' by Microsoft Corporation.
This is the new format for Microsoft Office documents.
It is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction.
Microsoft promises the format will be open (published for anyone to use) and prior versions of Office, using components provided by Microsoft for Office 2000, XP, and 2003 will be available to perform document conversion. Remember that these are promises by Microsoft. We have yet to see the actuals. This format is not the same as the OpenDocument standard, also an XML-based standard being developed as a true open standard (see the OpenDocument Fellowship for more information).

Do you have MS Office or Excel?
    Might look into NeoOffice...
    http://www.neooffice.org/
Then if you do have MS APPs, they have a file you can download so older versions can read the new format.

With every Oracle download and instructions I am gettting more and more annoyed!!!
On the official note Oracle RDBMS OTN Downloads: Files, Sizes and Directions [ID 209555.1]
    this is what it says:
+*<Moderator Edit - deleted MOS Doc content - pl do NOT post such content - it is a violation of your Support agreement>*+
But where does it say I need to unzip it on the AIX box?
ALso I don't have "unzip" when AIX is shipped. The only version of "unzip" I have was the one I got from Oracle9, which I then copied to my Oracle10 installation.
In the past they used to give us .tar file, the most possible simplest of format easy to use. I would unzip the file in Windows, do a binary transfer - job done.
Was anyone thinking when preparing those files?
Why are the instructions on the Oracle note so vague?
At last, one needs to check the ulimit and add the fsize to the account in /etc/security/limits
    oracle11:
    fsize = -1
    data = -1
    stack = -1
    After that "unzip <fie> "
    NO OPTIONS NEEDED!!!
-t means test on my version of unzip.

  • How to download and open zip file

    Download cannot be done

    Hi ratan45,
Does your device support the file type? There are some zip tools in the Google play store that would be helpful with unzipping.
However if it cannot download please try this:
#[http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/VB/Code/vbMedia/Audio/Lossless_WAV_Compression/Sample_APE_File.asp] click on the sample zip file
    # go to about:downloads and click on the file
    # Select a app that can open zip files on your device (please find one on Google play if you do not have one)
Do you have an example url where this is not happening?

  • How to unzip  a .tar.tar file

    Hi ,
I have downloaded jexel api from net. But it come as jexcelapi_2_5_9.tar.tar. i tried to unzip using winzip. But its not working. Can anybody tell how to unzip this?

Winzip knows how to read tar files.
This is just a wild guess, but try this:
    - Copy the file, and rename it jexcelapi_2_5_9.tar.gz
    - You may have to do this in cmd.exe because the Windows graphical shell often screws up file names
    - Then use WinZip on the copy of the file with the new name.
I'm thinking that maybe when you downloaded the file the filename got corrupted.
