Getting access to encrypted zip files

hey folks!
has anyone of you successfully decrypted a password-protected zip file with pure java code?
if so, please give me some advice or maby some sample code that I can figure out how it works.
thanks

sorry, I think I didn't express myself the right way.
the problem is the following:
a zip file is created with winzip and is also encrypted with it. this zip file is the input for the tool that I write. my tool should now be able to decrypt and uncompress all the encrypted files in the zip file.
as far as I know winzip uses different encryption algorithms, so I have no idea where to start.
I have already read about this bouncy castle stuff but didn't bring my any further

    Dear All,
    We have a requirement to

  • How to get access to the local file system when running with Web Start

    I'm trying to create a JavaFX app that reads and writes image files to the local file system. Unfortunately, when I run it using the JNLP file that NetBeans generates, I get access permission errors when I try to create an Image object from a .png file.
    Is there any way to make this work in Netbeans? I assume I need to sign the jar or something? I tried turning "Enable Web Start" on in the application settings, and "self-sign by generated key", but that made it so the app wouldn't launch at all using the JNLP file.

    Same as usual as with any other web start app : sign the app or modify the policies of the local JRE. Better sign the app with a temp certificate.
    As for the 2nd error (signed app does not launch), I have no idea as I haven't tried using JWS with FX 2.0 yet. Try to activate console and loggin in Java's control panel options (in W7, JWS logs are in c:\users\<userid>\appdata\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\log) and see if anything appear here.
    Anyway JWS errors are notoriously not easy to figure out and the whole technology in itself is temperamental. Find the tool named JaNeLA on the web it will help you analyze syntax error in your JNLP (though it is not aware of the new syntax introduced for FX 2.0 and may produce lots of errors on those) and head to the JWS forum (Java Web Start & JNLP Andrew Thompson who dwells over there is the author of JaNeLA).

  • Why do all downloads get downloaded as a zip file?

    Recently I was asked about downloading a file as a zipped file. I clicked ok. I didnt pay much attention to it as I thought it was just for that particular file. Now everything I download downloads as a zip file. Anyone know how to fix?

    I have not seen this happen. Zip files get saved as Zip files. DMG files get saved as DMG files. In order to convert, and or make, a Zip file out of one or any number of files you need a program, or a feature in the OS, to create a Zip archive file with that one or many files.
    Do you have such a program installed? Like Stuffit?

  • Old DW4 website files - how do I access and use .zip files?

    I have been given a .zip file of a now defunct website (Dreamweaver 4) which I wish to ressurrect! Do I need DW4 to access these website files or are the newer versions backward complient?  Absolute novice so any advice/assistance gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Double click your .zip file and drag the contents out onto your desktop to extract the archive.
         Don't just attempt to use the files in the .zip archive within DW without moving them out.
         They will appear to be "browseable" to your OS, but they won't/can't work as a website while in the archive
    2. Make sure all of the files are within a single folder (not the Desktop itself)
         Desktop > MyWebsiteName > all website files
    3. From your current version of DW, go to Site > New Site...
    4. Give the site a name and browse to the folder from Step 2 for Local Site Folder
    5. If you have your FTP info, you can enter it under Servers at this time, but you don't need it right away to create the Site Definition to start working with DW
    6. Hit Save
    From there on out, you will work from DW while your site name from Step 4 is displayed in the left dropdown menu of the Files Window (go to Window > Files or hit F8 if it's not visible)
    Snakeyez warning about deprecated features will likely be your biggest hurdle while working on an old site in a new version of DW. Hopefully, the original creator didn't use much of the old DW Spry based functionality.

  • Memory does not get released after encrypting/ decrypting files.

    I am using javax.crypto package to encypt/decrypt files but the problem is that once a big file (around 100- 700 mb) is encrypted there is spike in memory of 70 Mb (first time) and whole of this memory is not released after execution is finished. I have kept my application run for days but this memory do not come down.
    Interesting thing is if I encrpyt/ decrypt the same file again and again the memory do not rise by 70 Mb, but for first 3-4 iterations 5-8 Mb of memory is released in each iteration and after that memory starts increasing again in chunk of 2-5 Mb and after few iteration some memory get released but in all the memory always increases. The code to encrypt file is simple
    Cipher c = Cipher.getInstance("AES/CBC/PKCS5Padding");
    byte[] salt = generateRandomBytes(16);
    Rfc2898DeriveBytes rfc = new Rfc2898DeriveBytes("123456", salt, 1000);
    SecretKey key = new SecretKeySpec(rfc.getBytes(32), "AES");
    c.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key );
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(encryptedFile);
    CipherOutputStream cos = new CipherOutputStream(fos);
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(largeInputFile);
    int len = 0;
    byte[] buf = new byte[1024 * 128];
    while((len = fis.read(buf)) != -1) {
       cos.write(buf, 0, len);
    cos.close();
    fis.close();
    This is simple observation I have seen in my program:
    I am using Windows 7 64 bit with 16 GB RAM Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00 GHz and file encrypted was 700 MB size
    Explanation
    Memory Usage (As shown in Windows Task Manager Private Working Set column)
    When program starts
    9924 K
    After first iteration of encryption
    81,180 K
    Second Iteration
    78,254 K
    3 Iteration
    74,614 K
    4 Iteration
    69,523 K
    5 Iteration
    72,256 K
    6 Iteration
    70,152 K
    7 Iteration
    83,327 K
    8 Iteration
    85,613 K
    9 Iteration
    95,124 K
    10 Iteration
    92,698 K
    11 Iteration
    94,670 K
    I kept the iteration on for 2000 iteration, the same pattern was observed and at the end memory usage 184,951 K, this memory was not released after calling System.gc() also.
    What could be the possible problem, is it the CipherOutputStream or Cipher class having some memory leak or I am doing something wrong here?

    restarting it will forces us to reboot the server as there will be more and more

  • Accessing QuickTime metadata to get access to iMovie DV file timestamps.

    Can anyone point me to a way to view DV file metadata from a QuickTime file (specifically, the .mov or .dv files captured by iMovie). I am needing to write a DV file renamer, based on the timestamp inside the DV clip, so I am hoping to be able to AppleScript it (or find a command line utility I can use to extract it).
    Thanks, much.

    Do you mean programs like "MetaX" or "a better finder"? I'm actually looking for something that can edit the tags/annotations for "actor", "director", "producer", etc in .mov and .mp4 files that's better than MetaX. In some files, and I haven't found a pattern yet, MetaX will take a 3.8GB file and output a 5.7GB file when adding metadata info...as such rendering the 4gb+ mp4 file unusable. (i've never been able to get an mp4 file larger than 4gb to work in itunes/frontrow)

  • LrHttp.get redirect and downloading a file "zip"

    I trying to figure if I can use LrHttp.get to download a zip file via a URL that does a redirection can anyone help?

    This is the entire file, executed when user selects plugin extra from file menu:
    local function httpRedirTest( call )
        local body, headers = LrHttp.get( "http://www.robcole.com/_test/redir2zip.cfm" )
        fso:writeFile( "C:\\_temp\\nada_.zip", body )
    end
    app:call( Service:new{ name="Test", async=true, guard=App.guardVocal, main=function( call )
        httpRedirTest( call )
    end } )
    Note: app-call-service-new... is a glorified call to LrFunctionContext.postAsyncTaskWithContext.
    i.e. it must be called from an asynchronous task.
    What is or is not happening when you execute similar code?
    Could the problem be due to internet configuration (i.e. can your browser download the zip file when you click on the link above?).
    Can you download zips when not through redirection?
    i.e. if you replaced the url above with:
    http://www.robcole.com/_test/nada.zip
    does it work?

  • How can I stop Microsoft IE renaming .jar files to .zip files?

    I realise this question has been asked before on this forum, but as far as I can tell no answer has yet been posted.
    If I put a .jar file on my webserver for people to download, later versions of Internet Explorer will rename the file from xxx.jar to xxx.zip on the client's machine. Is there any way of stopping this from happening?
    It looks like the problem is caused by IE examining the contents of the file and realising it uses ZIP compression. As a result, any file that I create (not just jars) that uses Java to zip the contents, when placed on a web server, gets interpreted as a .zip file by IE regardless of its extension.
    I realise there are some workarounds such as zipping the .jar file, creating a .exe file from the .jar, telling everyone to use Firefox etc., but none of these are really acceptable or particularly efficient. I am really hoping there is something I can do to the .jar file or the compression process that will tell IE to leave the file alone.
    Thanks,
    Jo.

  • Alternative APIs for reading Zip files?

    Hi all.
    At the moment, our application handles zip files by copying the zip file to the temp directory and then creating a new ZipFile. However, the larger the zip file we encounter, the slower this copy becomes. We also need random access to the Zip file, so the usual workaround of using ZipInputStream is also slow, although slightly faster for random access than copying the entire file.
    I raised a bug requesting a better constructor for ZipFile, but it was turned down as they seemed to think I didn't want random access.
    But does anyone know of any alternative APIs which can access Zip files in a more random access fashion? I've discovered a few other alternative implementations of ZipFile, but all of them so far have had this issue of requiring a File.

    intensive. I am basically searching through zip
    files to find a file and then taking that inputstream
    for processing. I am basically looping through the
    zip file until i match the filename....pretty crazy.I think it is pretty I/O intensive...hence slower
    to see what I can do to increase performance. I am
    using the following parameters:
    -Xms512m -Xmx1024M -Xss16M -XX:ThreadStackSize=256
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    Parameters look ok. I am not sure what -XX:ThreadStackSize will do as -Xss also sets the stack size? you can also try to pass -server and keep both Xms and Xmx to 1024 and see if it brings any improvement.
