How to use blue/green screen?!

HI
I'm a new user to FCE so i maybe sound like a noob, but how do you use the methods of blue/green screen thing. !?
thx

"I understand from Wolsky's book that you really can't deal with HD green screen in Final Cut Express 3.5."
Really? I said that? There is one particular problem with HD material in FCE in that that AIC color space is 4:2:0. There is no color smoothing filter for this. I believe Graeme Nattress has one for this. There is a color smoothing filter for DV NTSC standard definition, which is 4:1:1. DV PAL has the same problem BTW, as it's also 4:2:0.
Aside from that the chromakeyer works decently with well shot material. For a really high quality key you should look to third party software.
There is no difference between 3.5 and 4 in this regard.

  • How do I get blue/green screen option & split screen?

    How do I get blue/green screen option & split screen?  On iMovie, these options were presented to me, whenever I dragged a clip over another clip already in timeline.  Where do I find these choices in Final Cut X ?  Also, on iMovie, to resume project production, I would then hit the "done" button -- Where do I find a button to finalize changes?  Also , where do I find the option of "precision editor" ?   Thanks

    Green screen is done with the Keyer effect.
    There is no Done except for transformations in the viewer.
    Double click an edit point to open the Precision Editor.

  • Special effects... Chroma key  blue/green screen

    Hello, im new to Final Cut, My friend is giving me his Final Cut Express HD 3.0 package and Im wondering if I'll be able to use a green screen/blue screen effect with this software, and if not, which software could you recomend.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Sorry Edirol if you took umbrage - my comments were intended as a light hearted quip.
    As a peace offering, take a look at this old thread where I and others have made a number of suggestions to help new "chromakeyers" - not the least being how to do it on the cheap!

  • Blue/Green Screen And Multiple Cameras?

    Next week a number of us are demonstrating Blue/Green Screen filming and editing to members of our video club who are not familiar with the technique.
    Originally the person who thought up the idea intended to have 3 groups of people filming a 2 minute script on a "station platform" a la "Brief Encounter".
    So far, so good, but then the creator of the idea suggested we should shoot each scene with 2 or 3 cameras to make it look more professional.
    I don't like complications when the aim is to demonstrate a technique, but somebody has suggested there will be a further drawback.
    When we cut from one camera to another during editing, the angle of the "actors" will alter but the background will not!
    This will create the equivalent of a jump-cut.
    Has anyone done such a shoot, experienced this problem or found a (reasonably simple) solution?
    My idea of a solution is to have one camera in a fixed position! But, then, I am lazy.

    Hi Ian
    You know me and my speculations (what You got without enough Know-How)
    But I would try to first apply Green-screen effect to one Camera angle
    at a time. Then I can get another background for Camera two etc.
    Then save these as QT full quality .mov (or rather back to Camera and new tape
    feel much safer this way) and re-import then and now prepare
    for multi angle cutting. (By putting one Camera on each track. Minimizing size
    to 25% and locate each to one separate corner)
    Now playback and I will in Canvas see all Cameras in each corner and can by using
    transparicy adjuts which one to be seen.
    Then as a last action - upscale all to 100%
    Done
    But as You see this is me just speculating. I fell for FC-Pro and the MultiCam
    function here. It's fantastic.

  • If you haven't already, why not give "blue/green screen" a try?

    Legacy FCP and FCE could always do blue (or green) screen but FCP X makes it a real doddle to get a good key.
    For my test I simply used a very cheap blue bedsheet fastened to a wall and without more ado filmed myself babbling for a couple of minutes.
    The resulting clip was imported into FCP X and the Keying Filter was added.
    There are numerous adjustments you can make, but none of these was necessary as the result was automatically OK.
    Here are frame grabs showing the original bedsheet and the final result with a street scene superimposed.
    You can click the images to enlarge and examine the edges which look pretty clean........... especially considering the the lack of time and expense incurred!
    Obviously anybody can achieve the above results with no effort, so take a look at this short video from Vimeo showing how some of the special effects in "The Great Gatsby" were achieved.
    For a visual feast I suggest downloading it and playing on an HD TV.
    https://vimeo.com/68451324
    Now hasn't that pro clip inspired you to try blue/green screen  ...........  or maybe it's completely demoralised you?

    just a few years ago, this would be the worst 'color key' ever!
    it is really impressive, how the automatics 'know' what is you, what is not.
    now, add aside you a trackermarker, and you can create pans, camera movement etc .....

  • Blue/green screen garbage matte

    can I generate a garbage matte to crop images out of my chroma blue/green screen in fcp 3?
    powerbook g4, fcp 3, laCie 120g hd, laCie d2 dvd +- rw   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

    i've a huge green screen to light.
    my subject takes up 10% of the screen.<
    then you're not doing this properly. Shoot your person close and scale them to fit your shot, don't shoot them wide.
    <div class="jive-quote">rather than light the entire screen i'd like to light around the subject (I will then see equipment/light stands, heads etc, in frame)< </div>
    You're not making much sense here.
    i'd like to generate a chroma key green matte over the objects i'd like to not see, (crop them out w/a green image) then key my backgd. image over the original & garbage matte image. < </div>
    Oh. Now I see. You don't want to change the color of the matte in the chromakeyer. You want a green matte slug to place over the video so you can chromakey it out.
    That's not how you do this stuff. Chromakeying is not rocket science but it's far more complicated than we c an explain in these little posties. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the whole thing and, unfortunately, this isn't a film school. Unless someone has the time to walk you through chromakeying as a technique, this is where you come to find out how to use FCP. There are hundreds of informational chromakey articles all over the Internet on the topic. Start with google or your local library.

    Thank you.   Nesting worked and allowed me to zoom in.

  • Blue Green Screen Filter

    Hello
    I applied the blue green screen filter to my clip. I obviously did not have the subjects feet lit up enough and Im having trouble getting rid of the green around that area. Is their another filter that would help with that?
    Thank you.

    As Telly said:
    The Spill Suppression filter can be useful for excessive spill on the interior area of the matte. as the Enhance slider only works on spill around the edges.
    Just make sure it lies below the Chroma Keyer and above any Color Corrector you may have.

    To enable this right you need Acrobat, not the free Reader.
    However, starting from Reader X it is possible to add simple markups to any file, unless it has been specifically disallowed by the creator of the file.

  • How to use conditional success Screen in SMP2.3 HWC?

    Hi All,
      Do anybody have reference for conditional success screen,
    I gone through this link SUP 2.2 Conditional Navigation Issue
    but i didnt able to do how to use conditional success Screen.
    If anybody have reference please provide me.
    Regards,
    Sravanya

    That works. Follow the below steps.
    1. Create a key on the selection screen: click on the selection screen>properties>keys>Add a key,ex. "value".
    2. MenuItem>In the properties of menu item>Parameter mappings>map the key with the key created in last step.ie. "value" instead of the key of the choice box.
    3. Get the value selected from choicebox:
    function customValidateScreen(screenKey, values) {
      if(screenKey === "Selection")
      var form = document.forms[screenKey + "Form"];
      if(form){
      SelectionValue = form.ChoiceboxKey.value;
    //ChoiceboxKey is the key of choicebox.
    //Declare a global value "SelectionValue "
    3. Map PK from program:
    customBeforeSubmit = function(screenKey, actionName, dataMessageToSend) {
      if(screenKey =="Selection" && actionName=="GoToChart" ){
      var myNewValue2 = new MessageValue();
      myNewValue2.setKey("Value");// Key created in the screen "Selection"
      myNewValue2.setValue(""+SelectionValue );
      myNewValue2.setType("TEXT");
      var mvc = dataMessageToSend.getValues();
      if( mvc ) {
      mvc.add( myNewValue1.getKey(), myNewValue1 );
    // So in the above way the data from choice box is send to online request.
    To do the conditional navigation you have to use the global value created,ex.
    hwc.customConditionalNavigation = function(currentScreenKey, actionKeyName, defaultNextScreen, conditionName, incomingDataMessage) {
      if( conditionName === 'Data'&& SelectionValue == "PieChart") {
             return false;
         }else{
        return true;
    Hope you understand how I did this.

  • Live type files look grainy and do not fill the background when used for green screen backgrounds.

    live type files look grainy and do not fill the background when used for green screen backgrounds. Ideas?

    What I want to do is somehow make my entire iMovie project smaller by compressing it somehow but without losing any footage or audio or quality. At the moment the project is a 56GB iMovie project lasting approx 1hr. I have a mixture of miniDV footage, titles created in Live Type (they are better quality than anything available in iMovie) and audio.
    The miniDV footage is automatically compressed when it transfers from my camcorder to my Mac, no worries there.
    The LiveType titles contain a motion background (imported into LT) and then text which appears and disappears at set points. The titles vary in length but are about 5 seconds each.
    The file size for the LT titles is approx 180MB per clip, the movie requires about 20 or so of these clips, making a very large file size overall.
    Is there a way that I can save something in LT so that the file size is smaller yet still keep the quality and use the clip in my iMovie ?
