You might want to start here:

There are some good documents to help you understand what all is needed to take your Forms application from client/server mode to web, particularly this one:

We are looking for any UNIX setup information we can find so that we can get started.

Any directions for how how to configure the environment?

You should install Oracle9iAS v1.0.2 on your unix machine. This will have The Forms services configured for you and save you all the manual settings.

Try to go through the oracle developer and oracle developer
server 6.0 reviewers' guide, this is spot on, and has
instructions on how to set all html and environment variables,
set up the OAS or whatever listener you are going to use, and
then just walk through this setup.
Try to get it to run the demo first, and then alter the html to
fit your application.
good luck,

• Display fields when web-enabling 6i form

I am web-enabling a Forms 6i application. All the display fields show up as black when the form is run thru the web. In our client/server version these display fields show up as gray. Why are the colors showing up different when form is run thru the web?
Thanks in advance.

> They have a default Visual Attribute assigned to them.
Do you mean their Visual Attribute Group property is set to "DEFAULT"?
And you did not answer the first question: What is the background color property assigned to the items? Does it have "<Unspecified>", or is a color assigned?
Assuming your Visual Attribute Group property is set to "DEFAULT" and they have <Unspecified> for background color, then what is the Visual Attribute Group of the canvas they are on? Does the canvas have a Background Color assigned? If not, try setting the background color and report back what happens.
It sounds like you are completely relying on Forms defaults for background, and the default item background on web is black.

• Web Enabled forms

Hi
How can I web enable a form. I know nothing about HTML

Sorry if this sounds harsh but your description of how this works, is totally and utterly incorrect.
If you you work for Oracle (as your strapline indicates) and you wish to discuss this, then mail me offline.
You wrote..
"Forms server creates Java applets (no html code) from your *.fmx files ( now stored on the Application server) which are capable of painting the screen inside a browser which will look just like your client /server Forms apps. When a transaction is processed on the client Forms Server process the transaction on the Application server - not on your client PC."
-- Forms server creates Java applets
No it does not. Forms server spawns a process per user, that process loads the FMX and uses meta-data name/value pairs to pass instructions to the java client. The Java client paints the screen based on these meta-data instructions. We do not (and never will) dynamically create java applets.
-- When a transaction is processed on the client Forms Server process the transaction on the Application server - not on your client PC.
No it does not. The java client is completely and utterly unaware of any application level logic in the application. The java client merely indicates that something occurred (either you clicked or typed) the processing of this event including any logic, data retrieval and messaging is handled on the middle tier by the forms server.

You can use either webdb or iAS to web enable forms and reports.

• How do I create a form that enables the user to save the form filled in?

When I create the form, save it and open it later, I get the message that the form can only be saved empty - without whatever the user filled into the text fields. Why is this and how can I enable the form to be saved including the content of the fields?

It should only say that when used with Reader versions prior to version 11. If you have Acrobat, you can Reader-enable the form, allowing it to be saved in versions prior to 11, and 11 as well. Exactly how you do this depends on what version of Acrobat you're using:
A9: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
A10: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
A11: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)

• SAP B1 Web Enabled?

Hi all,
I need to know whether SAP B1 is Web Enabled. If no then how to web enable it ?

Using the words 'Web Enabled' makes it hard to figure out what you need.
Some clients just mention the phrase 'Web Enabled' even when all they want is a remote connection to the Database.
Remote connection with SAP B1 can be achieved via Terminal Service or CITRIX.
Web based data entry would require you to build a front end in web language, and link it back to the SAP B1 database. I'd suggest you take a look at Ibolt since this is what the software is designed for. When you do this, you need to remember that you loose all the feature functions of the SAP Client like drag and drop, adding form settings etc

• WEB ENABLING OF R/3 TRANSACTIONS IN PORTAL

Hi,
I was going through different forums on SDN regarding this subject and at lot of places, it is said that ITS takes care of conversion of R/3 screens to html screens. So even if it is a custom transaction, developer doesn't need to worry for web enabling a transaction in the portal.
Now I have two questions regarding this
1. How to web enable a standard transaction?
1. Is web enabling for a standard transaction and custom transaction done in the same way? If not, how is it done for custom transactions.
2. If web enabling (conversion from sap gui to html) is taken care by ITS itself, what is the need of importing business packages on the portal side.
Any response to this is highly appreciated.
Please let me know for any clarifications.
Regards,
Chandra

> 1. How to web enable a standard transaction?
You need to have your SMICM and SICF settings in place and running.
> 1. Is web enabling for a standard transaction and
> custom transaction done in the same way? If not, how
> is it done for custom transactions.
In ITS you need to develop and publish an Internet service which is roughly an equivalent to r/3 transaction.
> 2. If web enabling (conversion from sap gui to html)
> is taken care by ITS itself, what is the need of
> importing business packages on the portal side.
I'm not entirely familiar with the SAP portal solution, but once the service is published through ITS it is accessible through any browser, so any portal not just from SAP should be able to display it.
One big benefit of having 640 over earlier versions is to have one sap instance serve the web pages to your browser.
The actual human interface of "web-enabled" transactions is very similar to standard sapgui, so it looks like the old transaction, but is often slower and more clunky.

• How to make a PDF form call Web service and return a static pdf for user to print?

Hi all,
Can anyone help me regarding the feasibility of using PDF forms for my following case?
I would like to create a Dynamic pdf form. User only have the Acrobat reader. they can enter some information. Then have a submit button. when user click the submit button, it can call the web service with data. then Web service returns a Static PDF document based on data and the user can print it out. (and maybe save as separate pdf file)
1. Is that possible to implement? Because I know PDF can call web service, but dont know how it handle when the webservice returns another static PDF document. could it able to handle the responds and open up in another acrobat reader?
2. As I understand I need to have Live Cycle Designer to create a pdf and make it Reader Enabled. So user can user reader to call webservice? am I correct?
3. What minimum reader that user need to have? PDF reader 7 or above?
4. I have a webservice serve the same purpose for web. But if I want the same web services can serve both web and PDF form. So, whatever client (PDF or Web)make the web service call, server returns the PDF document to client. Is that possible ? Do I need to make any changes on web service?
5. Do I need to get any other Adobe server product? (other than Live Cycle Designer )
Thanks a lot

We have done a similar approach in the past and yes, it can be doable.
1. Is that possible to implement? Because I know PDF can call web service, but dont know how it handle when the webservice returns another static PDF document. could it able to handle the responds and open up in another acrobat reader?
Srini: We have developed a Servlet to talk to Webservice. Based on the Webservice response, the Servlet, prepares the Byte stream and sends it to Webbrowser to display as a PDF. The PDF data was submitted to Servlet in XML format.
But if you do not want to use the above approach, then you have to use the Workbench Process.
Submit the PDF data to a Workbench process and the inside process, execute Webservice Service with the data. Once the response is received, prepare the data XML and render a PDF with it.
To do this, you need LiveCycle Server and Reader Extensions server component.
2. As I understand I need to have Live Cycle Designer to create a pdf and make it Reader Enabled. So user can user reader to call webservice? am I correct?
Srini: If you want to use the Servlet, you can Reader extend the PDF with Acrobat.. But if you want to submit the data directly to Webservice, then you need Reader Extensions server component.
3. What minimum reader that user need to have? PDF reader 7 or above?
Srini: Not sure but Reader 8 and above should work.
4. I have a webservice serve the same purpose for web. But if I want the same web services can serve both web and PDF form. So, whatever client (PDF or Web)make the web service call, server returns the PDF document to client. Is that possible ? Do I need to make any changes on web service?
Srini: If you use the Servlet approach, then you can re-use the same webservice. But if you want to submit directly to the same webservice, you may need to change it to suit your data XML.
5. Do I need to get any other Adobe server product? (other than Live Cycle Designer )
Srini: If you use the Servlet approach, you do not need any server component but other approach, you need Livecycle Server and Reader Extensions server component.
Thanks
Srini

• How do i enable web services on 8600

how do i enable web services on 8600

Are you using a router that has you connected to the printer through Ethernet or wireless? If so, there should be an icon in the top left corner of the the printer display screen that resembles a piece of paper with a blue target behind that. Tap that button to enable web services and then accept the terms and conditions. That should enable web services and then offer to print an info page that will have the printer code and the setup instructions.
Otherwise, if you are getting a failure to connect to web services error, please write me back with an exact error message and we can proceed from there.
