HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl True Vision Webcam Capture?

Hello,
I have a new HP notebook that meets all the system requirements for using Premiere CS5.5 and it has an integrated HD webcam that I cannot seem to capture with using any of the adobe products. I saw a thread that on location recognizes the webcam like it does on mine as well but that it is just a glitch and that in order to capture with a webcam it would have to connected via usb or firewire. I don't think this is totally accurate though because the MediaSmart software that comes with the PC captures and overlays effects and such just like you would be able to do if you had it set up right in premiere after effects onlocation etc. I was just wondering if anybody else has also tried to do this and got it to work?
I work in a professional studio and use the same software with professional equipment and I understand that your project settings need to be set up correctly in order to capture in premiere. ex: installed an AJA breakout card and after the install premiere has a preset for capturing with the device. So my question would be is there a way to set the HP MediaSmart Webcam up to be a capture device? I guess I could always capture with MediaSmart and then import to premiere but that's lame and I want to make my own effects and things around the facial recognition and stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Joe

Thanks for the feedback, however, I am not a rookie here and I and I am not having a problem with codecs at all, and yes I can bring footage in and edit it easily, I love using premiere. Also I have no problems hooking up a usb webcam or dv cam and capturinging, it's only the internal cam I have an issue with. I know it is prefferred to have a raid set up with high speed drives and all but if you check it's not required, that's the main reason I use premiere and not some clunky old school system like Velocity HD  Here is what it says in the specs "
7200 RPM hard drive for editing compressed video formats; RAID 0 for uncompressed"

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl won't start-up

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion dv7-4087cl with Windows 7 Home Prem OA. There have been no installations or upgrades made. Everytime I turn on my computer it becomes a black screen then it says "Boot Device Not Found Please install an operating disk. Hard Disk (3FO)" I don't know what any of this means. It also allows me to view system diagnostics so I can run a start-up and run-in test. My memory is 100% fine but the start-up is a failure. Please help.

Sounds like the hard drive has died, not uncommon in laptops. You can replace it with a retail laptop hard drive, but will need Recovery Disks to install Windows-hope you burned your set? If not you can >> order from HP for a small fee.
If you need help selecting a new hard drive post back. Just be sure to purchase one of at least as large a capacity as you have now (640GB) in order to use Recovery Disks. Can be>> larger capacity, but not smaller. Your>> Service Manual has instructions for replacing hard drive.

    Hi @arkas
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having some graphic problems. Did you install that ATI driver from the AMD website? If so that is the problem. You have switchable graphics meaning that you have two video cards. The Intel card is designed for your everyday basic graphics processing while the ATI card is designed to handle the heavy lifting. Switchable graphics drivers are configured by the manufacturer of the notebook not the manufacturer of the graphics card.
I would suggest that you install your AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver and your Intel High-Definition Graphics Driver. If you are looking for more information on switchable graphics this HP document Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Intel and ATI GPUs.

    This is hilarious.
**NOTE** I am a video editor who makes a lot of custom sports movies.
I bought my Dv6 back in March. I tried the HD Cam once. It worked and I was amazed at how clear and crisp the video was.
Fast Forward 2 months. For no particular reason. I go to skype my parents. But my camera won't work. I look all over the laptop for a reason it's no working. In two months I've managed to install custom programs for my A/V production with all kinds of add ons. Various other programs for viewing and testing. I've made several productions utilizing about 650GB of my 1TB harddrive.
After checking out the web for a driver, I find HP doesn't have a driver on their support site for this model. So I check the forums and find this isn't an isolated issue. I call up technical support and after all the same troubleshooting I did, their fix is. Close all open programs, reboot, and restore back to manufacturer. That's it. No care about anything I've got installed or saved. The support person tells me this is the only fix. As HP has no known driver to resolve the issue.
{Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} kind of shady support is that? HP Distributes a high end personal laptop with no known support for a pretty well known existing issue?

  • Driver for HP True Vision Webcam

Good day. After a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium I need the driver in above because I do not want to use the HP Touchsmart platform and the HP Touchsmart Webcam pre-installed. The notebook is a tm2t-2100. Yesterday, I called HP Support and they say the driver it's unavailable. They could not even tell what is the resolution of the webcam in Mb. They just offered me the YouCam software from Cyberlink, which cannot perform all the settings I need because of the lack of the proprietary driver from HP. In Device Manager the HP Webcam driver provided by Microsoft is a 6.1 version dated 6/21/2006, that I assume older than the webcam itself. I believe HP is obliged to release the proprietary driver for their hardware to avoid the consequences of abuse of dominant position. After all, when I purchased this computer from HP, I also bought a separate operating system from Microsoft. Thank you in advance for your help. I am confident you will find an answer for me with this little issue. Regards.

  • HP true vision HD : how to get to it on Spectre XT pro?

Hi everyone, I don't think the title of this topic is really clear, but I'll try to explain myself better. I got my spectreXT pro laptop 2 years ago and the webcam never worked. I already tried to make a few researches a couple times, but never really minded about it. A few days ago, a friend of mine asked me to turn it on while we were on Skype, I told him it didn't worked but tried anyway and ... it worked perfectly fine. We tried again yesterday : it worked a few seconds, then went off, did that a couple times more and then never worked again. Most of the time it works only a few seconds and goes off until I reboot my computer at least once. So yeah, just like a lot of us, my camera goes from HP true Vision HD to SPCA 2082 camera everywhere on my computer, and when it does, it doesn't work anymore. I read this topic : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/TrueVision-HD-camera-switched-to-spca2082-and-is-no-longer/td-p/2621231 I reinstalled drivers (youcam), I even tried to understand what SPCA 2082 camera was because I read lots of different things about it - uninstalled it, rebooted my computer and it is actually Windows related (so you can uninstall it, but Windows will install it again the next time you turn the computer on). On several forums, I read this could be a hardware problem, and I think that is a very interesting answer because my problem looks like a short circuit. That is how I came across this video : https://youtu.be/RKGz4lvYnhc I tried to do it with my own computer, it isn't as hard as I thought, but the problem is that the Spectre XT screen is different from the Pavillion DV7 one : the webcam isn't hidden behind the stiff black plastic frame you can easily take off with a guitar pick, it's behind the screen part (which is softer). When I tried to get to my webcam to see if there was a connector problem, I couldn't, and I didn't want to break anything. Am I supposed to be able to get to my camera connector the same kind of way this guy did on hit Pavillion DV7, even if my Spectre is slightly different?  Has anyone tried it already? I don't want to break my computer for the webcam, but this is frustrating ... Thanks by advance, have a nice day!

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx - No F11, Won't Boot Windows -- Recovery Manager PATH?

I am repairing an HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx for a friend. I have restored countless other computers but this one has driven me up the wall after 7 hours of trial and error and web searches.
    Here's the deal:
--The computer came with Windows Vista
--The owner upgraded it to Windows 7 this past fall
--The comptuer came in contact with malware and will not boot
--When booting, the computer will slowly attempt to load Windows, will make it to the "welcome" screen, then restart itself, creating an infinite loop
--I do have a recovery DVD for the computer; the owner burned it apparently in late 2010
--I am proficient in MS-DOS and am comfortable using the command prompt
--The command prompt is the only way I can operate this computer at the moment. I do not have access to Windows of any sort, let alone the web
--I do have two other computers here that are mine, both are Macs and one dual-boots into Windows; I do have a few flash drives and can burn optical media if necessary
The F11 key does not work on this computer to bring up the recovery manager. I know why, too--the machine was upgraded to Windows 7, which wiped out the connection between the key and the program.
My hope is that I can find the path of the recovery manager somewhere. There was a windows.old directory on the drive; I was able to change it to Windows (the existing Windows was renamed windows.scrap).
This enabled me to at least get to an OS selection screen. There were three options: 7, 7 (recovery), and Vista (recovery). None of them are able to get me into Windows. The Vista option states it is corrupt while both 7s will try to unsuccessfully repair themselves.
I can, however, access the command prompt through the Windows recovery program (NOT the HP recovery program, which I need to restore anything from either the partition on the D: drive or the DVD).
I did notice all of the files on the DVD were in .zip format once I got deep enough in a directory. I'm debating about extracting them on one of my other comptuers to see if I can just get them over on another device, but my only external hard drive is Mac formatted so I'll have to use a USB stick.
There have been queries about this out there referring to making the D: partition active. However, all of these solutions require Windows, which I cannot use. The same is true of downloads.
My biggest question--where could the recovery program be buried? I would be willing to bring files over on another device IF AND ONLY IF THEY DO NOT REQUIRE WINDOWS.
The SMINST directory within Program Files (x86) is not present.
Basically, I need a DOS-compatible, non-Windows, way to restore this computer.
I have no other Windows installation discs for the machine currently with me. Also, the COA sticker on the bottom of the computer is extremely worn and I can only read a few digits of it, so I can't use that for a restore I guess.
On a final note--the fan in this comptuer is extremely annoying; any way to turn it off besides just the switch in the BIOS that toggles whether it runs all the time?

You don't need to be in Windows to mark the D:\Recovery partition Active. Just boot with a utility cd with the disk management capability. If you don't have one_Scroll down on the page and get>> Bootable CD  If you don't have a burning app that can burn an ISO to cd get>> ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd-a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is> Here. Once created, boot from it.
Btw-have you tried booting from his Vista Recovery DVD? With the first disc in the CD/DVD drive power on the laptop and immediately tap Esc to bring up the menu. Then tap F9 Boot options. Use the arrow key to move down & highlight the Optical drive then tap Enter key. (No key is needed with Recovery DVDs)

  • PAVILION DV7 DISTORTED VIDEO ON SCREEN

Hi, everyone, this is my first session on this thing.
I wonder if anyone has the same problem with a Laptop Pavilion dv7,  while going through a switch-on, the screen is all distorted, you can-not make anything out.  At the beginning the distortion lasted for a minute or so and then I got good vision on the screen but now, just very bad distortion all of the time.  It looks like a chip has fried, or something like that.
It's a pitty, as the laptop looks very nice but it did cost about £800 about four years ago.  Is this a stock fault with the HP range?
I hope someone can answer the question for me, many thanks.

    Hi,
Problem could be related to display cable or could be graphics card related also. The best way to find out is by Connecting an external display like a Desktop monitor or high definition tv to the laptop and press Fn+F4.
Check the instructions from the link below to connect and external display and let me know the results..
HP Notebook PCs - Using Two or More Video Displays in Windows 7
Also refer to the link below for determining the issue..
HP Notebook PCs - Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays
Similar problems can occur in any type of laptops after 4 years to usage. Life of any notebook is between 3-4 years irrespective of the brand. Experiencing hardware problems after that is quite common . Though you might still come across few lucky ones that goes on for 7-8 years also but those are rarely able to compete with the newer technologies and applications.
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6c66nr - Win 7 HP 64 bits - Boot manager missing

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 with Win 7 Home Premium edition pre-installed, it is a 3.5 years old computer, seldom used by me.  As my previous computer with XP was close to the end of is life I decided to investigate if it was possible to use the Pavilion.
I intend to have the Pavilion with the windows 7 sp1 and HP drivers, so at startup I pressed f11 to enter HP Recover Manager, chose  “Minimized Image Recover” and the software installed the intended image
With windows 7 sp1 installed I install all windows updates till two days ago and also an handful of HP drivers updates
Then I made 1 bootable CD windows recover disk with windows, and 1 system image windows also, that I save to a usb hd drive
Everything was going ok but the cyberlink software could not connect with the computer embedded camera. I took several steps to solve the problem and it seems that the camera was not connected (hard disconnected).
I was not sure if before the minimized installation the webcam was operating well and once more I used HP “Recover Manager” to return to the full installation
As the web camera was not operating even with the full installation, I decided to return to the streamlined installation.
I tried a short cut to the original process, and instead of going to the HP Recover Manager and a once more update of windows and HP drivers I tried to use my previous produced system image with windows, so I went to Control Panel and used windows recover from the image, copying all to the same place (I was prompt to replace a lot of existing files). At the end of the process a received a message about same errors generated by the process but I do not investigated at that time.
When I reboot the PC I have a “BOOTMGR is missing/ Press Ctrl+Alt+Del” message and a blinking prompt
Now if I attempt Recover Manager to do a “minimized image recover” I receive an 0xEFFFFF08 error code and if I tried the full image after a rather short time it announces that the 1st stage is finished and it goes boot to proceed with the second half of the process, it goes off and reboot with the “BOOTMGR is missing/ Press Ctrl+Alt+Del” message and a blinking prompt
Can anyone helps me? I have no HP recover disks (it seems that HP do not sell rescue disks anymore for pavilion dv7 and Win7)
    Happy 2015 for all

  • Problem with webcam capture

    Dear all,
Using the Peter Parente's "webcam capture" library (Webcam Continuous Capture.vi), I faced some problems. In fact instead of showing for example one 320*240 picture it displayed some smaller pictures with some other parts of the picture indicator left blank(black).
What's the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards

    Hello Smal,
I did a search for this library and it looks like it was developed some time ago.  The FAQ on the download page seems to indicate that you need to make sure that your acquisition parameters in Windows and LabVIEW need to match in order for this to work properly.  There was also a data type change between Vision 6.1 and 7.0 so that could be related, but it sounds more likely it is something else.
If your camera is DirectShow compatible and you have Vision, you can try IMAQ for USB.  This, like Peter Parente's Library, is not actively being developed or supported by National Instruments Applications Engineers, but you may have some more luck, assuming you are using more recent versions of LabVIEW and Vision.
If there is a problem with a specific VI, please try to narrow down where the problem is occurring.  You may be able to post an image that might indicate how the library is failing.
I hope this helps!  Good luck with your application.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-3069wm touch controls not working

Above the keyboard, next to the power button there was a lit up mute, volume control, and wireless control. At one point the wireless and mute button stayed amber until I did a hard reset. Now they are completely gone. The volume control and DVD controls are lit up white, but don't work. The Quick Launch icon is also gone.
The HP Quick Launch software has been update, but still nothing. I've installed the latest BIOS, but that didn't help either.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The laptop is out of warranty.

I have a diferent problem but its also with a  Pavilion dv7-3079wm. I bought it in february 9 of 2010 and today when i check the warranty i discovered that was allready finished.
When i have like an hour or hour and a half using the internet or word or just listen music, suddenly the laptop stop working and the image on the screen gets frozen. Anything works and i have to shut down by the power button.
It takes like 15 minutes to restart again.
But if i just started to use it and open a videogame (age of empires) or a program which needs more graphic memory (archicad 12)  the computer stop working at 5 minutes.
Does anyone have the same problem???  Someone told me that the video card its damaged on this models, it's that true???

  • Hp pavilion dv7-6157cl upgrade questions

I currently own an hp pavilion dv7-6157cl  and want to upgrade my memory to 8gb and the HD to at least 1 TB. I figure I will do it when I tear my laptop appart to replace the cooling fan ( strange though - I have a Compaq (which is supposedly a lower end  of the HP line but it is over 3 years older  and the fan is still going strong and an even a much older and  lower end Gateway with no fan problems - go figure!). I upgraded my Compaq wireless card from a G to an N and learned that HP/Compaq had white lists for certain parts that would only allow certain manufactures parts to be used. Is this true also for memory and hard drives?
As far as the memory goes - what are the specs (I know they are DDR3) but what is the speed specs of the memory used. Being that it is 6 GB I presume there is a 4 and 2 GB  stick installed but I have  also gone by the standard that it is faster to  have both memory sticks the same capacity and speed. I also presume the extra memory would improve graphics also as the graphics share the sytem memory.
I also am going to be replacing the 640 GB  HD with at least  a 1 TB drive - is there a good program to clone the internal drive to use a bigger one as a direct replacement without having to reinstall everything. The cloning process would be simplified as currently buying 2.5 inch external USB 3.0 drives is cheaper than buying barebones drives (a 2.5" 1 TB  Seagate drive can . I presume if I got a 2 TB external I would have to partition it into 2 1 TB partions but the way the 2 TB  2.5" external drives it would be worth the cost.
Finally -  besides  the above questions are there certain makes for memory and HD's that are in the "whitelist" that can only be used. Any and all info would be appreciated.

    Hi,
You've got many questions, please allow me to make some suggestions (not in order):
    1. 1TB is the sweet point now in term of price/performance and no need to muck around due to some limitations. Many HSSD's (Hybrid SSD) now are very good. HP uses few suppliers and many laptops use Toshiba HDD's, you may want to play safe by using this brand.
    2. For memory: your machine support 8Gb max as mentioned in its specs. From 6Gb to 8Gb you can't see or feel the difference but if you wish, keep the existing 4Gb and buy a SAME specs/brand 4Gb stick to replace the 2Gb stick. The video card on your machine can take "Up to 3061MB" max this will give you plenty of RAM.
    3. Cloning existing HDD to new HDD is the best approach if you won't need to change anything (by the way, I use this many times to swap my HDD's around my test machines). Some vendors supply tool for you (or you can download from their sites) to clone. There are few good cloning software around:

All the best in 2014 and good luck for the upgrade.
