HP Photosmart C5180 won't scan to computer?

I want to scan a picture to my computer so I can later email it to someone. I put the picture in the front right part of the scanner as directed, but when I clicked on Scan Menu, the only options were Scan and Reprint and Scan to Memory Card. There's no option to scan to the computer. I really need these pictures scanned tonight.

Hi marisam,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you cannot scan to your computer with your HP Photosmart c5180. I am happy to help! I have a few questions for you:
What Operating System are you using? Windows or Mac? What version?
Can you make copies with the printer?
Is the power cable plugged into a surge protector or directly to the wall outlet?
In the meantime, if you are using Windows, please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens.
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for posting!

Often, you have to download updated vendor software drivers when you switch operating systems. HP doesn't list a C5500 on their web site, however, here's the link to the OS X 10.6 C5540 software.  If you have one of the other C55xx models, look for the updated driver/scan software on their software/driver download section of HP.Com.

  • HP Photosmart 6525 won't scan to computer (wireless) anymore

My HP Photosmart 6525 no longer scans to my PC via wireless (it used to work just fine).
I can still print via wireless just fine, so I know the two are still 'talking'.
When I use the menu on the printer to Scan to Computer I get the a message asking me to make sure I'm connected, have software installed, etc. and to make sure 'scan to computer' is enabled.
In the tray on my PC, there is only an icon that opens a 'Scan to Computer' dialog box telling me 'scan to computer is currently unavailable' and to check connections but doesn't give me any other option other than to 'disable.'
When I disable and re-enable it doesn't give me any new information but still displays the same 'scan to computer is currently unavailable' message.
None of the HP program folders lead me to any controls that seem to diagnose or fix this problem.
What else can I do?  Like I said this used to work fine until recently.  Yes I did restart everything.

I have the same problem on an Officejet 4632.  I recently updated software on the printer.  I can print but not scan due to connectivity issue.  Need help.
    Thanks

  • Hp 7525 Photosmart printer won't scan to my PC but will scan to other PCs on the LAN

Hp 7525 Photosmart printer won't scan to my PC but will scan to other PCs on the LAN.  I tried to install the printer software but it says it is already installed.  Do I have a security setting wrong?
Other PC names show up on the printer's touch screen but not mine.  We are all on the same wireless subnet with the printer at a fixed IP address.
I can print from my PC and scan from my PC but I can't scan from the printer touchscreen to my PC.

  • Photosmart 5520 won't scan to Mac

Today I bought a Photosmart 5520 e-All-In-One to replace my previous B110.  I cannot get it to scan to my iMac, after hours of trying.  My iMac is running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 and is fully up-to-date as of today.  When I try to scan, the printer provides the following message - "No Computer Found.  Make sure the printer software is installed on your computer, and that "Scan to Computer" is enabled via the printer software.".  I have installed, uninstalled, "scrubbed" and reinstalled 6 times, from the CD only, and from the HP website both via the link on the CD and independenlty. I have shut down the printer, pulled out the cable and put it back again numerous times.  I have shut down and restarted the iMac just as many times. I've tried using the USB cable provided, and wirelessly.  The printer will let me print from the iMac wirelessly.  The printer will communicate wirelessly with our old Windows laptop, both for printing and scanning.  The HP Utility on the iMac is having trouble with the "Enable Scan to Computer".  Sometimes it reads "Communication Error.  Unable to communicate with device.  Check Cables and connection settings.  If the problem persists, try restarting your computer and the HP device.".  Which I have, and as I say, it will print wirelessly.  Sometimes the "Scan Settings and "Scan to Computer" icon are absent altogether.  Sometimes, I click on the icon for Scan to Computer and HP Utilites "unexpectedly" shuts down altogether.  I've scoured the HP site, discussion groups, Google, etc, for nearly 8 hours.  When I try to go through "Image capture" in Applications, it tells me that there is "No camera or scanner connected". When I try to go through HP Scan in Device Utilites in Applications, the message reads  "Scanner communication cannot be established.  HP Photosmart series is currently unavailable.  Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly.  If theses conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again."    All of these have been checked, but nothing seems to work.  Why won't it scan to the iMac?  Can it be fixed or should I just give  up and return it?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @RobertLW

  • HP Photosmart C4680 won't scan

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now my HP Photosmart C4680 all in one won't scan despite being on the list of supported HP printers for Snow Leopard. I attempted to scan using the new Snow Leopard scanning options, but the scanner doesn't appear.

I solved this problem by uninstalling the HP Photosmart software which came with the printer. When I attempted to add the printer the software update hung, so I quit it and then restarted the computer. The software update then ran successfully and I can now scan.
It is nice to be able to scan from within Preview. The experience is better than with the HP Photosmart software.

  • HP Photosmart 7510 won't scan

Hello!  I have an HP Photosmart 7510 all-in-one.  I've had it for over a year now, and have never had a problem until recently.  It has always printed and scanned just fine.  Now I can't get it to scan at all, although it still prints without a problem.
I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.  The computer and printer are both connected to my wireless network.
When I try to scan from the printer itself, the computer shows up on the list, I select it, then I select "Document to File" and hit scan. Then the screen says "Now scanning..." but nothing happens, and about 30 seconds later it says, "No computer is connected."
When I try to scan from my computer using the HP Scan application, I press the blue Scan button next to HP Photosmart 7510, hit Continue, and then it just says "Preparing to Scan" with the blue animated bar for a very long time.  Eventually, a window pops up on my screen saying, "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner."
I have gone through the troubleshooting guide, and have gone through the following steps:
    - No one else is using the scanner (I'm the only one home)
    - I made sure that "Scan to Computer" is enabled in the settings.
    - I downloaded and installed the updated driver for OS X Mavericks.  I went through the HP setup application, and it said my printer is successfully connected and installed.
    - I repaired my permissions in my disk utility and restarted the computer.
My printer and computer are recognizing each other and it's printing wirelessly, so it doesn't seem to be a network connectivity issue.  It just won't scan.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

Hello @rmo5369 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I can see you're experiencing scan issues.  I would like to help!
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions:
About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:
OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Photosmart 7510 series C311 Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • PhotoSmart D110 won't scan with Macbook Pro

Over the past few years of upgrades to my Macbook Pro, my ability to scan from the menu on my Photosmart D110 quit working. A message says scan from the computer. That used to work, but now the application to do that has disappeared. I have downloaded new drivers, but nothing has helped. Suggestions?  Thanks for any help.

Hi , I see that you are unable to scan from the printer to the computer, using Yosemite. I would be happy to help you.
The drivers for Yosemite are installed by the Apple Updates, HP Printers - Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update. There won't be a option to set in the software to Enable Scan to Computer settings with the Apple Update drivers. It can only be enabled with the Full Software from HP. But it isn't available online for Yosemite. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. Thank You.

  • Hp photosmart 5510 won't scan in colour on my mac

My HP Photosmart 5510 will not print in colour to my mac documentary page.

I assume you may try scanning from the printer front panel and the scanned page appear as Grayscale only?
If I assumed incorrectly, please clarify the exact problem and the OS details as listed above.
If my assumtion is correct, please try the following steps:
*If you are using Mac OS X 10.7, install the Critical Update below, otherwise skip that part (The OS version can be checked by clicking the Apple Icon > About This Mac):
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL41827/mp-101648-1/HP_Scan_for_Mac_OS_X_10.7_Update.dmg
Now change the device settings as following:
    1. Open the HP Utility and select your device.
    2. From Scan Settings open the "Scan to Computer".
    3. Click the "Scan Tasks" tab.
    4. Select the Scan Shortcut used to scan, then click Edit.
    5. In the section of Scan from an HP Device click on the blue triangle to enlarge the menu.
    6. From the enlarged menu now open the drop-down menu next to Mode and set as Color.
    7. Click OK and try scanning.
Please let me know of any change,

  • Photosmart 7525 won't scan to mac...HELP!

I recently bought an iMac (OSX 10.9.4) and an HP Photosmart 7525 e-all-in-one printer.  The print and fax work fine, but I cannot scan to my computer.
I've installed the HP software from the HP download site, but I still get a message on the printer that says "No computer is connected"  How do I fix this??

    Hi @mfspectrum,
I see by your post that you are unable to scan. I can help you with this.
Enable the scan to computer settings. A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning. Go to Solution two: Check the Scan to Computer setting, Step one: Check the Scan to Computer setting.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. The Airprint driver might be installed instead of the Printer's driver. (usually defaults to Airprint)
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
If the printer name shows Airprint then that is the Apple drivers, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Try and scan again.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • HP Photosmart Premium won't scan to Mac

Since downloading Yosemite on my Mac I can't scan photos from the touch screen on my HP Photosmart Premium C310. I also am unable to scan from Preview or from Image Capture. If I try to scan by touching the scan icon on the printer, I get the following error message: "Scan problem: Try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details."
I don't need any new updates for the printer or Mac (I checked). I have a solid network connection as well. I noticed that my Mac is no longer under Networked Computers on the printer but am not sure if that is related to the scanning problem?
I have also reinstalled HP Software.
    I am able to scan from System Preferences-->Printers & Scanners-->Scan-->Open Scan-->

    Hi,
The solution provided for 10.10 is available via Apple Software Update, using any incompatible HP software which was not designed for your operating system may prevent the correct update from being installed and.
Scanning from the front panel is not supported with the provided solution but only from teh software on yoru Mac:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-Premium-e-All-in-One-Printer---C310a/4023238/model...
I suggest removing any incomatible HP software by going toapplications > Hewlett-Packard and following the HP Uninstaller.
Once the unisntall completes go to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and click the plus sign.
Select your printer and select teh printer model instead the default AirPrint option within the Use drop Down menu, then you should be able to scan via Image Capture, Preview or from Printers & Scanners.

  • C309a won't scan to computer

SPECS: Vista Ultimate SP1, Trend Micro PC-cillin firewall, HP C309a printer
I can send & receive faxes, I can print from my computer and I can make copies. Everyime I try to scan by pushing the scan button on the printer I get the message to try scanning from my computer, EXCEPT one time yesterday it actually scanned when I hit the button but the very next try I got the error message. Sometimes it goes through the menu, I push scan, select scan to computer, the printer shows the name of my computer on the LCD screen and I push OK, the screen shows "scanning now" then gives the message to try from my computer, other times as soon as I hit the scan button i get the error message. Sometimes by going to HP Soluton Center on my computer I can get it to scan from the scan document selection, sometimes not. Just now I tried to scan from my compuetr and got an error message with 6 options to try, none of which helped. I have tried to un-install & re-install several times, had the firewall off, etc. Any ideas to get my scanner working as it is supposed to? Thanks for any help!

I also had the same problems for a few times, then finally figured out n remembered where i might unknowingly change something to cause the problem.
    Go to HP Solution Center.
Click on "settings", the 2nd icon from lower right corner.
So the screen would change to "Scan Settings" (, Fax, Print, n Other Settings).
Point n click your cursor to scan settings with a right arrow.
Then it shows: (Scan Picture Settings, Scan Document Settings, Scan Preferences, Button Settings, n )
    click on " Scan to...Setup".
It appears: Scan To...Setup (Front Panel List).
U see "Available Scan Shortcuts" on the left.
Click n Add (->) one by one to the right " Front panel List (Scan to Button)".
Finally, click on "Update the Device".
So when u press "start scan" (or Scan n ok), it will show u a list of Scan Menu on ur printer control Panel.
Select "Scan to computer" n press ok.
It will show u "Scan To", which r the selected items u just added one by one.
Then choose the one u want.
It should be working as it is supposed to.
