HPX170 P2 footage ingest problems

I have made two videos describing the problems I am experience with ingesting P2 footage.  Yes, it does work natively.  But the question is, does anyone want to work this way?  It triples my logging time.

  • Ingesting C300 mxf Footage Audio Problems

    Hi
I've been having a lot of problems working with native mxf footage from the Canon C300. I ingest the footage via Canon XF utility and then import into Premiere ProCC. The flies directories are never altered or changed. Some of the files import fine with the audio synched correctly but a lot the files have their audio completely out of synch and not corresponding to the clip being played. I've had to take these individual mxf files and compress to ProRes in order for the audio to be synched and workable.
Is this a common problem any solutions?
    Thanks
    Dave

Is this a common problem any solutions?
Yes, this happens if you open and play the clips when some of them are still Conforming. Importing clips, wait for the conforming to be done, then playback the clips works o.k. This happens with all media when using it during conforming/generating peak files.
    The solution is:
    1. Edit > Preferences > Media
    2. Write down the file path to "Media Cache Files" and "Media Cache"
    3. Close Premiere Pro and save the project
    4. Delete the folders and all it's subcontent you found under step #2
    5. Launch Premiere Pro, open the project
    6. In the lower right corner you will see a yellow bar that shows you that the clips are being conformed.
    7. Don't touch, playback anything until the conforming is done.
    8. Play back the media
This solves issues like this 99 out of 100 times.

Editing Avccam Footage From AG-HMC 151 In Final Cut Studio 2.No Problem @ All Up 2 The End Of My Editing. But When I Play My Movie In DVD It's Not Playing Good In Tv.The Pictures Quality Is So Bad.I Use Compressor,Quicktime Movie And All The Setting But Not Work At All.Plz Any One Just Help Me 2 Export My Film In Good Pictures Quality.

As Shane said - if you have Final Cut Studio 3 (2009), you can create a Blu-Ray compatible HD disc. If your program is less than about 20 minutes, you can burn this onto a regular DVD blank and play it back in a Blu-Ray Player. 40 minutes will fit onto a dual layer DVD. After that, you'll have to grab yourself a DVD burner...
If you mean to put your HD program onto an SD DVD, you'll want to set up DVDSP to use an anamorphic, 24FPS format.

  • Prelude Ingest problem

I recently purchased CS6 Production Premium and am totally new to it. I decided to have a look at Prelude. I ingested a 16 min video file and played around with various buttons etc. trying to make a short clip. I did not save the project changes. When I opened the video in Premiere Pro, and looked for the original file in Media Browser,it only showed a 2 min clip, and not the full 16 mins. The same thing happens when I open in Prelude. I can play the original file in Media Player etc in it's entirety.
I cannot understand what I have pressed to cause this.It would appear the the file has somehow been altered but only when viewed in Adobe programmes.
As soon as I get a chance I will be looking at the tutorials but feel the answer to my question will not readily surface.

    Hi Michael
Thanks for your interest.Happy New Year.
This was my first time in Prelude.
I looked around for how to import a file and came to the conclusion that “Ingest “ was the way.
Navigated to my 16 min video and clicked it to ingest.
Once it was in Prelude, on the left side, I highlighted it and dragged to the Monitor panel. At that point I could scroll through the whole video no worries.
I recollect that I scrolled through to 2.27 mins and clicked the icon marked Go to Object end.
At least I think that was it
When I open Prelude now, I cannot see that icon at all, only the monitor section.
I have just tried it again after deleting previous project and it only ingests a 2 min clip even though the one I navigate to is 16 mins long.
I cannot seem to get the left screen I had before with the Object icons on it, only the Monitor screen.
If I use Windows Explorer to get to my 16 min video it has a file size of 3.38G and a time of 16mins showing.
I cannot see how the original file of 16 mins imports as a 2.27 min clip.
Sorry I cannot be more explicit but I was not expecting this sort of problem so did not take that much notice.
It has always been my understanding that the original file remains intact and that I am working on a imported copy to edit.
    Regards
    Brian

  • Improperly Indexed Footage/Timecode Problem

    Hey everyone,
Recently I deleted all the temporary render files in my premiere pro  media cache folder to free up space on my mac hard drive. This  unfortunate action somehow prevented me from opening my premiere project  file. I have wiped my entire drive and reinstalled the creative suite  to try and get it open, and now I am able to get my project file open,  but everything has been somehow corrupted.
So here's my problem... I believe that the premiere  is unable to read the footage file's timecode because all my edits are  out of sync, both the audio and the video. The sequences are all still  put together properly, every shot and every audio clip is the right  length and in the right place, but it's drawing the source from the  wrong point on the captured tape. So to illustrate, as I play a  sequence, not only is it playing audio from earlier or later on the tape  than the point I specified, but the video is coming from the wrong  point as well. The audio and video are not even from the same incorrect  place on the tape! I've examined the footage in the source monitor and  have discovered that although the audio and video are initially in sync,  they slip out of sync as the clip goes along. I assume this is part of  the problem, and it's one I've read about, but it isn't manifesting in  the timeline in any way I am familiar with.
I have tried importing the footage in a new project  file and have had the same problem. I have tried selecting "replace  footage" in my initial project file to no avail. I have also tried  opening various older versions and backups of my project and have had  the same problem. The issue is clearly with the captured footage and  premiere's ability to properly index it. When I deleted the render  files, I must have deleted something that premiere creates when you  capture footage that it needs to getting everything to sync up.
Can anyone think of a way I can get my project working properly  again? Any help would be much appreciated.
My specs: I'm operating Premiere Pro CS4 on my  Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.2 Snow Leopard with 4 GB of RAM. My footage  is all 1440x1080p at 24fps in mpeg format. The mpeg file plays fine  outside of premiere.

Hi... I am using the latest version of FCP. I have 1GB of memory on the 17" only 720 mb on the 12".
Odd that things work for the 12" and not for the 17". I should be getting the 12" back today from apple, so I guess the 17" goes back to the closit.
Guess I will have to free up some room if I want to use the 17" with FCP. What a hassel!

  • Footage Importing Problem

    Hi all,
I appear to be having this recurring problemn that i've never got to the bottom of with my Final Cut 4.1.1. I import footage which appears to be fine, (usually about an hour long, split into many clips) When i take a section of a clip to my timeline, and try to adjust the speed of it, the picture plays at normal speed, and the sound plays at the speed i have requested!!!
Because the picture has continued at normal speed and the sound has slowed right down, the picture clip automatically jumps onto the next frame shot, if that makes any sense!!! I don't know what's causing this to happen and it's a real pain because it's happening too often now. To correct the problem i'm having to re-log the clips again which means waiting another hour for each tape.
Sometimes when i'm importing stuff onto the machine, i work in other apps in the background, and i don't know if this is part of the problem. I have a G5 dual 2.5Ghz and 2.5G of RAM which should be sufficient. I'm also using 10.3.9
Can anyone shed any light on this for me please!
    Thanks
    Martin

Upgrading has fixed it!! I really didn't think that it would because FC4.1 was working periodically, anmd the times it didn't work were tying in with when i was importing footage and working on other stuff.
Many thanks for all your help guys.

  • Avc-intra ingesting problem ou may be just confusion....

I'm using this new HPX-300 with the AVC-INTRA 100 codec. And when i import the content using log and transfer (final cut 7!!!) with avc-intra native plug-in, all that, to apple ProRes 422 hq compression the size of the video is like 14 mb/s is that right (and the video is full of color and complex)? and the quality doesn't look so good too, but this i fink is because of my computer.... AND THE INFORMATION OF THE VIDEO IN THE INFO WINDOW (more info part) IS SAYING:
DIMENDION 1920x1080 --> this is ok but....
CODEC: AI16, LINEAR PMC, TIMECODE ---> why not apple Pro Res 422 (hq) ???
    COLOR PROFILE:HD (1-1-1) ---> This should't be 4-2-2 ?!?!?!?!?!
    DURATION: 02:44
    TOTAL BIT RATE: 116,254
    SIZE: 2.39gb
If some one can explain to me who does this work i apreciate!
And before all Tanks for sharing.

When you import AVCIntra into FCP 7, you have many MANY options. To see these options you need to go into the Log and Transfer preferences, located in the sprocket drop down menu. You can import as AVCI Native, or ProRes, ProRes HQ, ProRes LT, ProRes Proxy, Apple Intermediate Codec... Now when you say that the codec is AI16...that might be Apple Intermediate, not ProRes. Go back and make sure the preferences for that codec are set right.
the video is like 14 mb/s is that right (and the video is full of color and complex)?
It is because the video is HD and complex...yes. To get the footage to an EDITABLE format that FCP can decode and encode, you need to go ProRes, and yes, it can have a higher data rate than AVCI Native.
and the quality doesn't look so good too, but this i fink is because of my computer....
That is because computer monitors do not show you full quality. And FCP doesn't either. It lowers the resolution in order to play back all the frames. To see the full quality you need a capture device and a high quality monitor.

  • Log and Transfer Video Ingestion problem

I have a Sony camcorder that uses AVCHD on a HD. Problem is that I have clips that don't want to transfer over using Log & Transfer - only the audio is transfering. I can still see the video on the tool, but the preference for bringing over the video is grayed out - only the audio check box is checked, not the video - as a result no video is coming over - just audio clips.
I saw other posts on this topic, but no resolution. I'm using FCP Studio (latest version - I think 7.02. This is quite frustrating. Anyone have an idea? Is it a camera problem or a FCP problem? As I can see the video on the camera and in the Log and Transfer window, it feels like a software glitch.
    Help!

Thanks Tom...so simple...sort of like "did you take the lens cap off?"

  • Help with HD footage sizing problem

    Hi all,
I am currently editing a short film that I shot on 16mm, had converted to HD and compressed using Apple ProRes 422 (HQ). I'm not sure where I went wrong, but after a few months of editing, I started having to render clips when I added them to the timeline. I don't remember ever touching the sequence settings.
Now I thought I could just start a brand new sequence with the right settings and copy/paste all the clips from the original timeline into the new one, render it, and everything would go back to normal. Not so. Before rendering, the image is squished. After rendering, it's exactly the same.
Here is a screen capture of my sequence settings.
Here is a screen capture of one of the clip properties.
Here is what it looks like in the canvas.
When I drag any of my original footage from the browser into the timeline, it works fine. How can I get all my settings back on the same page so that I don't have to re-edit all the footage or render every time I bring a clip into the timeline?
Sorry if I've left out some important info, please let me know. I know it's frustrating when people don't explain their situation correctly.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jack
    I'm using FCP 6.0.

You need to distort all of the images back to their proper size using the distort tool in the motion tab. THey got that way because you put them at one point in the wrong sequence settings or something. You can copy and paste motion attributes en masse after you fix one of them.
It's likely a simple change in the aspect ratio slider in the distort parameter settings.

  • Cannot De-interlace HD footage, importing problem?

I use a Canon hv20 in 1080 HDV mode, I import my footage with imovie via firewire.
whenever I export the footage in any of the expert HD settings, the video is very interlaced (Even though I check the "de-interlace source footage" box)
The only time that the footage is de-interlaced is if i use one of the settings that isnt labeled as HD
I am using h264 for compression, but want those pesky lines gone
I dragged a short clip out of imovie and sent it to a friend with final cut, he tried exporting it in FCP, imovie, Quicktime pro and he could not get deinterlaced HD footage either. He thinks it is something wrong with the import.
When I create a project it is set to 1080i like it should be.
    what could be going wrong?

De-interlacing interlaced footage for freeze frames is always a good idea, especially if the freeze frame is motion intensive (for instance if you're pulling a freeze frame from footage of a subject running). If there's not much motion being depicted in your freeze frame, you probably won't see much of a difference, but if there is alot of motion and you don't de-interlace it, you'll end up with a vibrating or flickering look on your freeze frame, which is quite annoying.
I don't want to get into details regarding the technical differences of fields vs. frames (I'm sure that you can find that either here or by Googling "interlaced Fields"), but when you shoot interlaced footage, each frame is made up of two individual fields - one field contains all even horizontal scan lines, and the other all odd scan lines, each sampled at a different point in time. Therefore, when you freeze a frame of footage that is motion intensive, there will be a noticeable difference (due to the motion in the footage) between the two fields, and this is what causes the flickering mentioned above. When you use the "interpolate" option on a de-interlace filter, it literally averages the difference between the two fields and eliminates the flickering.
    Hope that helps.

  • Footage problems from digitising with Canon XF305 to FCP

I have uploaded my footage no problem from a canon 305 to FCP (7) using log and transfer but when I play back the footage it has lines going through it when the subject is moving. I may have the incorrect settings or something. When I put a clip onto the timeline it says it amends the settings to the clip but the clip remains the same. There are no issues with the camera and uplaoding to avid (i don't have avid but other footage from the same camera was digitised fine).
Help! I can upload a clip tonight as its pretty strange but I'm sure its just my lack of editing wisdom and its probably something really easy to resolve.
    Thanks in advance.

No change but i did upload a small clip to youtube from my capture scratch and the lines dont appear :/ weird! http://youtu.be/uOUdrqL4ISc (put it on HD)
Do you have any idea what else cud course the problem?

  • Need help using 1440x1080 footage in a SD 4:3 timeline

    Hi Folks,
I need to use some AVCHD footage in a normal SD 4:3 timeline destined for a dvd. I'm trying to figure out the best workflow. The client provided a usb hard drive with some files extracted from a Sony hdr-sr5. I know the first problem is ingesting these files. I'm on a PPC G5 so I know using the L&T window isn't an option. I have experimented with using Toast to convert the files to ProRes 422 and that seems to work to some degree. I'm probably not doing it correctly because the footage shows up in FCP looking somewhat squished down and with letterbox bars above and below. In Toast the files indicate that they are h.264 1440x1080. When viewing in the Toast Video Player they get 'expanded' to 1920x1080. So I'm not sure why the footage gets letterboxed when converted to ProRes. So I guess that's the first part of the problem.
The second issue is that I just need to use the center crop of the image in a SD timeline. It's just talking head stuff so there's no problem cropping down. But I'm just not sure I understand the correct procedure for doing that once I have the footage ingested in the proper format.
I could definitely use some guidance here as the whole AVCHD thing is new to me.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Can't help with your first question, but create an sd 4:3 timeline. Drop your hd footage into it. It will come in letterboxed. In the motion tab, remove any distortion, scale and position to your liking

  • Imported footage and no longer seen in event, but can see in Finder

I spent hours importing clips from MiniDV tapes into iMovie. They were all there this morning (although some were strangely missing thumbnails and were just grey -- but when i moused over them i could see the footage no problem...)
So now i start up imovie and most of the footage clips are missing now! They are still in finder, I can click on the "missing" clips and see them play in quicktime...but they're not visible in the event. I have "all clips" showing, and i have 165GB avail on my hard drive.
any ideas where they went ?

  • Importing Sony PMW EX1 footage into FCPX

I just got a Sony PMW-EX1 (not the 1r).  I'm not very familiar with this format and I'm having trouble getting my footage into FCPX.  I imported a clip the way I thought it should be done and it simply showed up as a green clip.
Would someone familiar with this camera and FCPX help me get my footage ingested for use in FCPX.
    General information:
Camera connected via usb and card can be seen in the browser.
I searched through the card until I found a file named pir80684_01.MP4
When I imported the file the clip is completely green.  When I try to open the file in Quicktime I get this error.
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -12909.)
FCPX said to access the camera via camera import, and then create a camera archive.  This was not possible for me as the camera did not show up in the camera import section.

    This came from Twezk Digital:
"There is no “native” XDCAM EX support (unlike native DSLR support) in the new FCPX — you still have to use Sony software to “wrap” your XDCAM files into a Quicktime file and then import your clips from there. And the new XDCAM Browser won’t do the trick, nor will the Clip Browser, no, you have to use something you may not have used before: XDCAM Transfer. If you think of XDCAM Transfer as your new Log & Transfer window, I guess it is about the same, it just feels wrong to have an “evolutionary” new video editor and need to switch out to an older third-party application for a codec that has been around for so long now."

  • "Hardware Cannot Render"  Message!!  ProRes footage.

    Hi all,
I have a brand new G5 2 x 2.26 Quad; 12Gb Ram, and 2 graphics cards (ATI Radeo HD 4870 & NVIDIA GeForce GT120) And have just recently changed from capturing/editing HDV, to ProRes.
When editing HDV I was able to process some effects no problem, but now I am getting this Render Error message - The canvas goes completely red and message says "...The Effect "***" failed to render: Your Hardware cannot render at the requested size and depth!!"
I've tried a google search on this problem, and came across someone saying to change the 'Video Processing' tab to have "Render in 8-bit YUV" option. I did have it set to "render 10-bit YUV material in High Precision YUV" Gave that a go, and it didn't work. Have also come across someone saying that having 2 graphics card might be causing the trouble, and to take one out - but don't want to do that unless it's really necessary.
Can anyone help me clairfy what the problem is and if I can sort it?
    Thanks

    Hi Shane,
I don't mean to question you guys as you are undoubtedly far superior in knowledge to how this works - but I find this really hard to believe, after all, this G5 tower is only 1 month old, and I've got the only 2 graphics cards that mac currently sell on the site :
    ATI Radeon HD 4870
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
If anything, I would have thought that it could process my footage NO PROBLEM!
I hope I don't sound too cheeky in my response - as I say - I bow to your superior knowledge.
The filter in motion worked Tom, although I had to render the clip and it gone a bit sluggish (That may be to do with setting up as HDV in Motion and dragging into a Prores timeline?)
