HREAP on LAP reboot

Hi,
I've got HREAP working well, in that when an AP loses conenctivity with the WLC the AP continues to push out a LAN over radio and clients are authenticated back onto a radius server that the AP can see when disconnected.
I have one burning question: When an AP in HREAP power-cycles (and still cannot see the WLC), does it lose its HREAP config? I'll be really, really annoyed if it does.
This is what I'm seeing at the moment. A newly rebooted LAP just seems to spend its time saying
*Mar 1 00:22:39.872: capwapHandleDiscoveryTimer Expired
and not doing anything remotely HREAP.
Anyone had any issues with this?
Thanks,

I still think this should work even though Cisco UK have said that it will not. My LAP that has been restarted has a few files in flash. they are as follows:
2 -rwx 40572 Jul 29 2009 15:25:17 +00:00 lwapp_reap.cfg
3 -rwx 0 Mar 1 2002 00:16:57 +00:00 validate.txt
154 drwx 128 Mar 16 2009 11:17:19 +00:00 c1130-rcvk9w8-mx
4 -rwx 296 Jul 29 2009 15:25:13 +00:00 env_vars
5 -rwx 29298 Jul 29 2009 13:42:29 +00:00 event.log
6 -rwx 5 Mar 16 2009 11:17:45 +00:00 private-config
9 drwx 256 Jul 29 2009 12:10:47 +00:00 c1130-k9w8-mx.124-18a.JA1
7 -rwx 7192 Mar 1 2002 00:00:31 +00:00 private-multiple-fs
The top one is a reap.cfg file, which when I do a 'more' command contain some basic information about the WLAN that is supposed to be being pushed out by the radio, but for some reason the LAP is ignoring this and spending time trying to get to a WLC that it can never reach - as i've created a fake WAN failure between the LAP and WLC.
Any ideas?

  • HREAP mode AP assigns random 5GHz (802.11a) channel after reboot

The channel and power levels for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios have been manually configured on an HREAP mode AP. The 5GHz channel is 149 (non-DFS) with a power level of 2 (14dB). When the HREAP mode AP reboots the 5GHz channel initially displayed is the same manually configured 5GHz channel. If the AP is unable to connect to the WLC and enters HREAP standalone mode, the 5GHz radio channel is then randomly assigned a channel from the UNII-1, UNII-2 or UNII-3 bands. The WLC is on v7.0.116.0. I have seen the same results using 1142, 1262, 3502i and 3502e APs. See example CLI output from AP below.

    Welcome to the forums.
One thing you can try is re-check, if you get better results with different wireless-n settings: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Doc … figuration
The driver might need a+n mode for 5Mhz AP operation according to other posts.
Another thing to follow up: The openwrt 12.09 (out last week) implemented patches for  _experimental_ ath5k/9k support for 5Mhz. I have no experience with it on ath9k myself, but if it is new to openwrt and they call the new feature experimental - the vanilla driver very probably is the key to your problem.

I recently had to deploy about 4 cisco 1131 AP's to one of our branch location. When configuring them on the controller, i needed to put them in HREAP mode. As soon as i do that and the AP needs to reboot, it will continue to reboot in a loop and indicate the following:

Would like to i) debug further for reason of AP reload ii) Reason for AP not joining WLC after reload /crash.
Is there way to collect AP debugs from WLC ? Any suggestion to prevent reloads from happening.

  • LAP 1131 Rebooting Every 5 Hrs

    Hi All,
We have 5508 WLC with 7.4.100.60 Ios. and we have multiple Ap's in our network (3600,1131,1242) and integrated with 5508.
We found on eissue recently i.e. all 1131 access points are rebooting every 5 to 6 hrs.
Let me know waht is the issue and solution.
    Regards,
    Satish.

For 1142 & 1040 series there was a bug (CSCud97983) in 7.4.100.0 code, but it was fixed in 7.4.100.60. If you having specific issue to 1131 after WLC code upgrade, it could be a bug.
As Scott suggested open a TAC case & Cisco may give you an engineering release which could fix your issue (if you do not want to downgrade). We were using 7.4.100.60 & had few critical bugs.. so now we are running on 7.4.100.107 given by TAC.
You can find certain bugs impacted us with this 7.4.x code from here.

  • Notepad- Lap-Top, Pavilion, Wiped [D:] Drive in error, lost emergency reboot files?

HI:  Recently, I uninstalled all data on my data [D:] drive, in attempt to create more space, as I was save my backups there, wasn't a notice create more physical space, I do not know HOW.    Remain so a problem.
Then I compounded that, realizing I removed all HP original emergency files, so in thos 4 categories, I more or less have no files/folders, nor ID bytes.
That being in order..  $recycle bin; Scotty-PC,  System Vol. Info.,  Medial ID.BIN,   Altho in #1..I have 1 File - 129 bytes.    The recent date of change was..25/11/2014....of my indeed dirty deed.
I now better realize HP original message/warning not to uninstall any of these 4 files, all required for emergency recovery, known in some order as::::  Recovery, $Recycle Bin, boot, p,  PC-Dr., ?,  pcdr, or Preload.
Without these files there is no system recovery, no I didn't make an original recovery boot, at least I don't recall, I can check my elsewhere filing plc. to confirm that.
Are there any reasonable suggestions to this matter.
I am   NOT   in any immediate state of emergency,   my HP Notepad is more or less working ok, a little slow, but I'm uninstalling programs, that I do not need.   I have a  upgrade   Vista,  to Win. 7, H. Premium, OEM,  RAM at 2G's, some 5-6 yrs. vintage, never a prev. problem.   On a wireless set up, for stationary home pc usage, by one person.
From:   Kannu or Kannutipper, of  Canada.    Thank You...   I wish to recover these files,  maybe utilize   'Recuva', or new HP-D/l, can't seem to access that.   The D dr. is starting to d/l over the empty files space all lost, so be it.

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
    From what I can gather:
You have accidentally removed your Recovery Drive Partition,
You are not in any immediate danger of losing the rest of your data,
You are continuing to remove chunks of data from some other part of your computer -- presumably the C drive at this point
You have never made any Recovery Disks
You have apparently not used a third party software to make a Disk Image of your data
You would like to have a Recovery Disk set
There are a number of dv9500 systems, none of which have Recovery Kits available from HP any longer.
    What to do?
    =======================================================================
    Recovery Kits
You might depend on these folks to provide a Recovery Kit -- they specialise in Recovery Kits for vintage HP computers.  The cost is only a bit higher than you might have paid for the Kit from HP had it been available.
I cannot check the specifics for you without the Product Number -- you can check for yourself to see if they have what you seek:
Recovery Kits for Vintage HP Computers
    Computer Surgeons HP Recovery Center
The company provides an 800 number you can call with any questions.
    =======================================================================
    Disk Image Software
Barring a purchased Recovery Kit, or in ADDITION to it, you might try using some Third Party software to make a Disk Image of what you have now before you lose it.  That way you can at least get back to where you are at the moment.  That you have some extra bits of software on the computer does not matter as much as the fact that the computer does, in fact, RUN and operate.
There are a LOT of companies that specialise in this sort of software.
    One such:
Redo software is NOT Windows dependent and can be used with Both Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
Redo Backup – Recovery – Bare Metal Restore
    Edits 04-Jan-2015
I suggest that you provide for the following stop-gaps to protect your data and access to your computer:
Prior to making changes to your computer, for example remove programs or make other changes:
Create a Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
As a matter of protecting your data:   You might consider that having an extra copy (or two) of your most critical files is a good idea.  Placing those files on a USB drive -- or two -- and then placing that Drive into a Safe location (locally and away from your primary residence) might be a very good idea.  Why do this?  Computers have a habit of failing when you least expect it -- and at the worst possible time.
HP PCs - Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)
Do not be the one locked out of your computer because you lost your password.  Do not be the one locked out of your computer because your account becomes unusable due to corruption.  The following was written for Windows 8.1 -- the logic applies to Windows 7 and the methods are similar.
Create a User Account with Administrative Privileges – Windows 8-8.1

Excuse me for my english and thank you for help

On the wlc cli you can issue: debug client
If the client shows up in the wlc and under the monitor client ,the policy state of the client is in run, that means the client has successfully authenticated and is on the wireless. This means it must be a network issue. SO go to the monitor tab and click on clients and click on the client mac address. You will see the policy manager state and look to see if its in RUN.

  • My iphone 4s and ipad 2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi but non-mac lap top has no issues

my iphone 4s and ipad2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi.
About three days ago the ability to connect came and went and the connection never lasted more than 10-15 minutes; it has not been able to connect since last night. I do not think it's my wifi router as non-mac lap top has no issues. I have seem many similar questions posted.

Reboot your router by removing all power from it for about 15 seconds. Also, if your router still has its default SSID (such as LINKSYS, DLINK, NETGEAR, etc) change the SSID to something unique. Note that all other devices on your network will have to be reconnected if you change the name, but if the name is still the default that is most likely your problem.
If the SSID is not the default then the reboot should fix it.

  • My IPad cannot download live Tv from skygo. I have no problem with my lap top so I assume the broad band is okay. Can anybody suggest why the live streaming will not work on my iPad one.

My IPad cannot download live Tv from skygo. I have no problem with my lap top so I assume the broad band is okay. Can anybody suggest why the live streaming will not work on my iPad .

Are you using the Sky Go app to try and watch it ? If so are you logged in with your Sky account ?
If you are using the app then you could try closing the app completely and see if it works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Sky Go 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Sky Go app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT4906 My ipad 4 is stuck.  Icloud says it cannot access my account.  It says go to settings.  I went to the settings on my lap top but I can't access the settings on ipad.  I pad gives me a choice of ignoring or going to settings.  None work. frozen.

It tells me to review my account in settings.  I tap on settings and nothing happens.  My ipad is frozen.  I can even shut it off.  This icloud message stays on the screen and nothing works.   I've looked at my settings on my lap top and everythings is okay.  I bought the ipad in Palm Springs area.  I can't remember if he set up I cloud for me there.   Now I am in Canada.  I updated my lap top to Lion so I would get I cloud, too.  Should't the passwords be the same on both units when I access icloud.  Something is not  right.  Do I throw my ipad 4 away! It won't do anything with this icloud message on the screen.  Can't even cancel it. Can anyone help?

    See if this helps you.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I found the driver at the above link.  I installed the driver, disabled my graphics card and rebooted.  The touchscreen worked.  Then I enabled the graphics card.  So far so good.  Hope I dont have to do this routine too often.
    Good luck with it.

Here is the step that you can try :-
LWAPP to autonomus AP converstion steps
Here is a example steps for you:
Step 1 The PC you intend to use must be configured with a static IP address in the range of 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1100-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for an 1100 series access point or c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1100-k9w7-tar.default for an 1100 series access point or c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power (the power jack for external power or the Ethernet cable for in-line power) from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds), and release the MODE button.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, you must reconfigure the access point by using the Web-browser interface or the CLI.

  • WLC 5508 with LAP-1142n - Several Errors

    Hello all,
    I had installed a WLC 5508 with 7 LAP 1142n and 2 converted AP 1131abg.
I am seeing some errors relating 2 issues.
1st- One particular AP 1142 is disassociating and reseting the radios.

I had some search, and the new discovery cause, might be that the AP didnt know what WLC do associate, in a multi-controller environment. This is not the case. I only have one WLC in the same management vlan.
2st-The Radius server is beeing related in the logs as been deactivated. I raise the server time-out on Radius configuration option, but it still continues to do it.

Is this meaning the WLC stop sending request to the Radius Server ? We dont have BackUp Radius.
As far as i know, its always the same mac-address client that is associated to that error, maybe a iphone.
I had so many clients in that SSID and they are all working good.
The Radius server is a NPS from windows Server 2008

Is this mandatory for a 1 controller only ?
No mather what the manual say, after that the AP is rebooting 2 mins in 2 mins... with the same kind of messages.
The interface on the switch is getting a few input errors and the same numbers of crc... but are so few...
Next step ... i will change it to another one's place/pathing cable.
Regarding the Radius messages... any ideas ?
I'm already on 30 sec's of server timeout.

  • Cisco AIR -LAP-1142 status led continuosly blinking green

    hello all,
I have implemented around 46 access points (AIR-LAP-1142) in a customer site and i can see that the led of some of the access points are continously blinking green and no clients are associated to these access points. I have a WISM which has two controllers in it. I can see the particular aps to be joined  in the controller. But my question is that why its not giving me any signal. Please help me as this is very urgent!!.. even if am under the access point the signal is not there. I checked the radio status of the aps and its up. The WLANs are activated from the controller also. Please help mee....!!

    continously blinking green
This could mean that the AP hasn't joined the WiSM yet.
Can you console into the AP?  If you can, reboot the AP and post the entire power up and bootup process and include the "sh logs".
