LAP 1142 Reboots
Have 1142 LAP AP's installed in each floor, All AP in One specific Floor are rebooting. After reboot most AP are joining WLC but few are unable to Join WLC. Logs in WLC shows AP has Crashed due to
"Unexpected exception to CPUvector 2000, PC = 0x49DFE8 , LR = 0x49DFFC : Unexpected exception to CPUvector 2000, PC = 0x49DFE8 , LR = 0x49DFFC"
and
"Last AP disconnect details
- Reason for last AP connection failure.................... Data transfer message received from an unsupported AP
Would like to i) debug further for reason of AP reload ii) Reason for AP not joining WLC after reload /crash.
Is there way to collect AP debugs from WLC ? Any suggestion to prevent reloads from happening.
This is bug CSCtx92385, No workaround yet
Saurav,
Whoever created updated the bug needs to review the accuracy of the content. Under the Details > Product it states AP is a 2700. Under Details > Known Affected Release it states "7.0(116.0)".

Cisco AIR -LAP-1142 status led continuosly blinking green
hello all,
I have implemented around 46 access points (AIR-LAP-1142) in a customer site and i can see that the led of some of the access points are continously blinking green and no clients are associated to these access points. I have a WISM which has two controllers in it. I can see the particular aps to be joined in the controller. But my question is that why its not giving me any signal. Please help me as this is very urgent!!.. even if am under the access point the signal is not there. I checked the radio status of the aps and its up. The WLANs are activated from the controller also. Please help mee....!!continously blinking green
This could mean that the AP hasn't joined the WiSM yet.
Can you console into the AP? If you can, reboot the AP and post the entire power up and bootup process and include the "sh logs". -
LAP 1142 not finding 4404 controller
My 4404 is has it's 4 gig ports connected to my 6509e via port-channel.
My 1142 is also connected to the 6509e and it set in vlan 11.
The management interface of my 4404 has an address in vlan 11 and is set to tag vlan 11.
When I power up the 1142, I can see it via cdp on the 6509e, but when I go to WCS and look at APs, it says none detected.
Any ideas?1. What is the firmware of the WLC?
2. What is the error logs from the LAP and the WLC?
3. Is the NTP server of the WLC set correctly?
4. Can the LAP ping the Management IP address of the WLC? -
AIR LAP 1142 wont join to WISM 5.2.193.0
I Have a problem when make a replacement of AP 1142 with the new one on existing WLC deployment.
The AP already get IP Address, Option43 and 60 already set.

Clock on AP wont synchronized to WLC too, everytime I set a clock on AP, it will back again 2 hours from WLC clock. The funny thing si the other old AP can join to WLC with no problem
Anyone have any idea about this one?
Many Thanks,
AndrewAP already download the image from WLC,
Your AP currently have two IOS: One called the "recovery" and the other is the LWAPP/CAPWAP. The recovery is easily identifiable because it has the letters "rcv" in the filename. In enable mode, delete the LWAPP/CAPWAP and reload the AP. Make sure the AP is not connected to the network.
Once the AP boots the "rcv" image, perform the following commands:
1. clear lwapp private
2. clear lwapp ap controller ip address
Reboot the AP and let it join the network. -
LAP 1131 Rebooting Every 5 Hrs
Hi All,
We have 5508 WLC with 7.4.100.60 Ios. and we have multiple Ap's in our network (3600,1131,1242) and integrated with 5508.
We found on eissue recently i.e. all 1131 access points are rebooting every 5 to 6 hrs.
Let me know waht is the issue and solution.
Regards,
Satish. For 1142 & 1040 series there was a bug (CSCud97983) in 7.4.100.0 code, but it was fixed in 7.4.100.60. If you having specific issue to 1131 after WLC code upgrade, it could be a bug.
As Scott suggested open a TAC case & Cisco may give you an engineering release which could fix your issue (if you do not want to downgrade). We were using 7.4.100.60 & had few critical bugs.. so now we are running on 7.4.100.107 given by TAC.
You can find certain bugs impacted us with this 7.4.x code from here.

Cisco AIR-LAP 1131 reboot in loop
Hi Everyone
I recently had to deploy about 4 cisco 1131 AP's to one of our branch location. When configuring them on the controller, i needed to put them in HREAP mode. As soon as i do that and the AP needs to reboot, it will continue to reboot in a loop and indicate the following:

And this is all it does, and keep loading the image. I already know the recovery procedure to reset it, but i wanted to know how i can put these AP in HREAP without having these issues. In the setup we need, we cannot have those AP be in local mode.
Thanks for any help and consideration .

LAP 1142 N Ap configuration issue
I have an AP that has joined a WLC previously. I want to move it to a different LAN segment and assign it a static IP address. How can I configure this AP? I tried using the CLI,
AP#lwapp ap hostname testAP
ERROR!!! Command is disabled.
AP#clear lwapp private-config

Delete filename [lwapp_reap.cfg]?
Delete flash:lwapp_reap.cfg? [confirm]
reload
>>> It still does not let me configure it.Greetings,
Very good question. In order to issue the static configuration commands on a LAP, you'll need to be running the CAPWAP Recovery Image on the AP. In order to accomplish this, we'll need to remove the full image already installed:
debug capwap con cli
delete /force /recursive flash:/c1140-k9w8-mx.124-18a.JA2
You can also free free to remove the configuration files as well:
delete /force flash:private-multiple-fs
delete /force flash:lwapp_reap.cfg
Be sure to reload the LAP when complete. Once reloaded, the AP will boot the c1140-rcvk9w8-mx image, and then will allow for the static configuration commands:
lwapp ap ip address
lwapp ap controller ip address
lwapp ap hostname
lwapp ap ip default-gateway
Cheers.

What happens if Local Mode LAP lost connection to Controller?
Hey,
I wonder what happens to the wireless client and LAP running in local mode if connection to wireless lan controller is down OR the controller itself is down? I do not think LAP will reboot by itself but will wireless client lost wifi connection and internet connection via the LAP?H-REAP/FlexConnect is different and it can keep clients connected depending on authentication methods. This will explain it better:

Wireless Network is slow after putting cisco wireless controller
Hello Guys,
My wireless network was very good before putting Cisco WLC 4402 with version 3.2.171.6.
In my network there are two SSID's one for official and another for guest, which is working one single LAP 1142.( Total 12 LWAP is here)
we decided to manage all the ap and deployed WLC but now wireless network is very slow, local gateways is pinging with 80 ms. before WLC it was 1 ms.
Pls. suggest or come up with question to reach a solution.

WLC 4402 Multiple clients can connect to AP but only one gets an IP
I have a 4402 which is connected to a 4506 Switch int Gig 3/1 via a trunk port. The Managment and AP-manger interfaces are on vlan 6
interface GigabitEthernet3/1
description Trunk Port to WLC
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 2-6
switchport mode trunk
end
I have a 1142N AP also connected to the switch and it pulls a DHCP IP Address and configs etc and registers to the WLC. It too is on Vlan 6 and it is connected to the 4506 on int gig 4/33 which is an access port.
interface GigabitEthernet4/33
description Access port to Cisco LAP 1142
switchport access vlan 6
switchport mode access
end
My router is my dhcp server;
ip dhcp pool wlanmantraffic
network 10.6.0.0 255.255.255.0
default-router 10.6.0.1
dns-server 66.109.38.250 10.7.0.8
option 43 hex f104.3130.2e36.2e30.2e33
interface FastEthernet0/1.6
description Vlan6

ip address 10.6.0.1 255.255.255.0
no ip redirects
no ip unreachables
no ip proxy-arp
ip nat inside
ip virtual-reassembly
I am doing local authentication, so i have added users to the WLC
My problem is that the first client that connected was able to get an IP address and connect to anything internal and external.
I then connected another client on another laptop and that client could connect but not get an IP address, it just self assigned.
When i look at the clients i can see the MAC address of both Clients on the WLC, but doing a show mac address-table dynamic i only see the MAC of the client that works properly. The client that doesnt get an IP has no entry in the 4506 switch.
I am stumped, from what I understand, is that the 2nd clients traffic is being trunked to the WLC , hence it has the MAC address. But I dont know why its not getting a DHCP assigned IP address.
Thanks in advance for your help. Here is some of the WLC config,

Hi, all.
Anyone can explain to me, how the CDP device sensor probe works with ISE ???
What I am trying to do, is to identify different Cisco Wireless Access Point models (i.e. LAP 1142) with ISE.
Since the APs do speak CDP (I can see the AP devices on the switch), this should be possible with the CDP device sensor on the switch, shouldn't it ....
I have done the following so far:
Configured the switch to talk to ISE via radius accounting:
aaa group server radius SERVERGROUP_radius_accounting
server name ISE02
radius server ISE02
address ipv4 [ISE02 ip address] auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646
radius-server attribute 6 on-for-login-auth
radius-server attribute 6 support-multiple
radius-server attribute 8 include-in-access-req
radius-server attribute 25 access-request include
radius-server attribute nas-port-id include remote-id
radius-server dead-criteria time 30 tries 3
radius-server retry method reorder
radius-server retransmit 2
radius-server timeout 2
radius-server deadtime 1
radius-server key 7 [ISE02 radius key]
radius-server vsa send cisco-nas-port
radius-server vsa send accounting
radius-server vsa send authentication
aaa accounting dot1x default start-stop group SERVERGROUP_radius_accounting
Configured SNMP traps to be sent to ISE:
snmp-server host [ISE02 ip address] [SNMP RO Community]
authentication mac-move permit
authentication critical recovery delay 120
mac address-table notification change interval 60
mac address-table notification change
mac address-table notification mac-move
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
snmp trap mac-notification change added
snmp trap mac-notification change removed
Configured logging to ISE:
epm logging
logging host [ISE02 ip address] transport udp port 20514
Configured CoA:
aaa server radius dynamic-author
client [ISE02 ip address] server-key 7 [ISE02 radius key]
Configured DHCP snooping, device tracking and device sensors:
ip dhcp snooping vlan xyz
no ip dhcp snooping information option
ip dhcp snooping
ip device tracking
device-sensor filter-list dhcp list DSFL_dhcp
option name domain-name-servers
option name host-name
option name domain-name
option name class-identifier
option name client-identifier
device-sensor filter-list lldp list DSFL_lldp
tlv name system-name
tlv name system-description
tlv name system-capabilities
tlv name management-address
device-sensor filter-list cdp list DSFL_cdp
tlv name device-name
tlv name port-id-type
tlv name capabilities-type
tlv name version-type
tlv name platform-type
tlv name duplex-type
tlv number 34
device-sensor filter-spec dhcp include list DSFL_dhcp
device-sensor filter-spec lldp include list DSFL_lldp
device-sensor filter-spec cdp include list DSFL_cdp
device-sensor notify all-changes
Configured an additional IP helper on the AP vlan pointing to ISE:
interface vlan xyz
ip helper-address [ISE02 ip address]
I have configured new profiling conditions on ISE, which use the cdp attributes:
and used these conditions in a new profiling policy for the 114x AP:
ISE is configured to listen to DHCP, radius, DNS and SNMP traps ....
However, the only thing ISE sees of this AP, is the dhcp probe:
and therefore, the 114x policy has no effect .......
ISE version is the following:

What am I missing ??? Should this config make the switch send CDP information about connected devices to the ISE (via radius accounting) ???
How do the device sensors work ???
Rgs
FrankA switch with sensor capability gathers endpoint information from network devices using protocols such as Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), LLDP, and DHCP, subject to statically configured filters, and makes this information available to its registered clients in the context of an access session. An access session represents an endpoint's connection to the network device
Client notifications and accounting messages containing profiling data along with the session events, and other session-related data, such as MAC address and ingress port are generated and sent to the internal and external clients (ISE). By default, for each supported peer protocol, client notifications and accounting events are only generated where an incoming packet includes a TLV that has not previously been received in the context of a given session. You can enable client notifications and accounting events for all TLV changes, where either a new TLV has been received or a previously received TLV has been received with a different value using CLI commands.

Max users for a AIR-LAP1142-A-K9
I work at a small University where are are moving from a hitspot infrastructure (just provide wireless access) to dense user support model in order to use wireless during classrrom instruction. It have a request to provide wirless coverage in a classroom for up to 30 users. I have installed a Lap-1142 in the hall just overisde of the classroom last semister which provided wireless access for about 12 students. The class enrollment has grown and now will need to support up to 30 users. I just install a C3560G-POE to provide 1GB uplink for the switch. The instructed stated she will require students to download pdf files and some streaming media during class and I was asked if the wireless will be able to support this requirement.
I am not sure how many concurrent users a LAP-1142 can support and if it can can it support streaming media for 30 users. How would I go about testing this senairio? How can one test AP throughput? How do I ensure it will work during class with having to place another AP within the classroom?
Thank you for your help.
MikeWhere could I located Cisco's 25 user limit recommendation
If you have an autonomous AP, then there's no need to worry. It's just a rule-of-thumb. If it's controller-based then it's:
Wireless > 802.11a/n (or 802.11b/g/n) > General and look at "Clients (1 to 75)". -
1262/3500 for WLAN between buildings
Hi,
I currently have WLC 5508 and a few campuses with LAP 1142, each with 2-3 vlan. Now one of our campuses have a building thas is a bit far away and needs network (wired). We can't get fiber or TP-cable there in a good way.
So the plan is to get two 1262 or 3500 with AIR-ANT5160NP-R antennas and get a wireless link working between the campus and the building. And then connect one of the AP's to a switch in the other building to provide it with wired network.
The problem is that I can't find information on how to do it. Do you have any config guides on this? Should both APs be in autonomus mode?
I probably only need to have 1 VLAN in the other building but I am not sure yet. Is there a problem with transfering several VLAN over the WLAN-link?
/Philip#wirelessly wgb can extend WLC connected wired/wireless network to Wired and Wireless devices connected behind wgb.
#mesh can extend WLC connected wired/wireless network to wireless devices connected behind mesh AP and also it can bridge multiple wired network behind Mesh AP to other Mesh APs in that group wirelessly.
multiple vlan is supported on Mesh AP, it is just like extending local mode access point through wireless link.
wgb supports multiple vlan from certain new WLC versions. -
1142 LAP-to-Autonomous Conversion
Guys -
Ordered an AIR-AP1142N-A-K9, but they shipped the LWAPP version. I know with a 1252 I can convert to IOS using the archive command, which is available by issuing "debug lwapp console cli" to enable full IOS command set. This does not work on the new 1142. Anyone know what the new command is?
Regards,
ScottHave you tried this way.... but you would need an IOS code. If you are consoled and you hold the reset for 20 seconds and let go, does it look for an image? I'm wondering if you can or not convert.... though I heard someone say that you can't.... might be wrong though.
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file for a 1142 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 On the PC where the TFTP server is located, perform these steps:
a. Disable any software firewall products, such as Windows firewall, ZoneAlarm firewall, McAffee firewall, or others.
b. Ensure all Windows files are visible. From Windows Explorer, click Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders.
Step 4 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1140-k9w7-tar.default for a 11400 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1250-k9w7-tar.default for a 1250 series access point.
Step 5 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 6 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 7 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 8 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 9 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 10 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI. -
1142 converted to LAP and VLANs
Hi,
I just converted AP 1142 to LAP using the image "c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA2.tar".
The WLC is a 5500 with 2 NIC : one on 192.168.0/24, one on a specific vlan 10.20/16
The main management interface is on 192.168/24 but we defined as management the interface on the 10.20/16 network.
For the access points, we use ports on a native VLAN on 10.20/16 with other available VLANS which are used for the wlan networks
We have 1152 APs which work fine on this config but that needed to be registered on the 192.168/24 network, then we moved them in their VLAN 10/20/16 and they work fine.
We also have 1142 APs which have been upgraded to LAP. These AP do not work with our architecture.
They register correctly on the 192.168/24 network, but do not give access to the wlan VLANs. If they are moved in the 10.20/16 network, they don't register to the WLC (message : Timed out while waiting for ECHO repsonse from the AP). The AP do not get an IP.
is there a restriction with VALNs on these AP ? or is something false ?
Thanks,
ChristopheStephen, leolaohoo thank you for your help and ideas
