I try to connect to iTunes and it comes up with a box saying "iTunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode. you must enter your code on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes", but i cant enter the code on the iPad because it is saying "connect to iTunes". FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY. -
My iphone 3gs will no longer let me try passcodes and it only says "Iphone is disabled connect to itunes" well, when I connect it to my laptop, itunes says "could not connect to phone because it is locked with a passcode. you must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes" Please help!!! After trying several times I had to give up with the restoration as it wasn't working. I made an appointment at my local Apple store and took the phone into them.
It turned out to be a hardware problem that they couldn't fix so I had to buy a replacement phone as I didn't buy the extended warranty when buying the original phone in 2010. -

I hit this problem when updating my iPhone. I was about to put it in recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808) and restore it but first I tried updating iTunes. Suddenly the phone sprang back into life!

You've entered your passcode on your phone to unlock it ? If you can't remember your passcode then follow the instructions on this page : Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled.

I am trying to restore my son's iPod Touch 4th generation. I went about 20 minutes into the recovery process and got the error message, iTunes could not connect to iPod because it is locked with a passcode you must enter your passcode on iPod before it can be used with iTunes. if so you should be able to restore it
connect to itunes under the devices tab click on the ipod now click summary on the top
on the page you should see and check for update's or update tab
below that there should be an restore tab just click on the restore tab
NOTE RESTOREING WILL DELETE EVERYTHING YOU ADDED TO THE IPOD AND IT WILL BE BACK TO FACTORY SETTINGS -

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...

Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

Try opening an elevated command prompt by going to the start screen, then typing "CMD" without quotes and pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER. It will ask you if you want to allow it to make changes, click yes.
Then, while in the command prompt, you need to type "netsh winsock reset". You type this without the quotes. Make SURE you are in an elevated command prompt window before trying this. If you don't know what that means, search google for "elevated command prompt". -
