HT1338 I downloaded the latest Mountain Lion to my macbook 2.4 and lost my acrobat 5.0. Also, it will not reinstall. Does the new upgrade not allow Adobe Acrobat 5.0.

I downloaded the new operating OSX Mountain Lion and now my mackbook 2.4 will no longer read or open Adobe Acrobat 5.0. I tried to re-install and it wouldn't allow it. Does the new operating system totally kill Adobe Acrobat 5.0? Is it possible to make it work and if so, how?

You will need to wipe your drive because you cannot downgrade over a newer system. So, you'd need to have a complete backup and either your Snow Leopard install disk or a bootable clone made before upgrading to Lion. If you have the disk, insert it while holding down C key to boot off it, choose Utilities (after language selection), choose Disk Utility and choose erase. After that, the installer will automatically reinstall SL and you can use Setup Assistant to move over your files from your backup. (Note: Mail changed in Lion, so you won't be able to import it - you'd have to do it manually).
If you have a bootable clone, it's even easier: boot with the clone, use Disk Utility to erase the drive and clone your SL system back to your internal drive.
Depending on which route you'll decide on, we can give more detailed instructions.

The apple store is so unhelpful. I have an iMac computer operating on Mac OSX 10.5.8. I want to upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion operating system so I can work with the iCloud on my computer and download my emails. I can't seem to purchase this on-line as it keeps telling me to go to the app store. I haven't got the app store on my computer as I am told I need iCloud for which I need the new operating system, which I can't download or purchase as I am sent back to an instruction telling mee to go to the app store icon.
How difficult can it be to simply purchase the software on-line have it shipped to you so you can install it, in the event it cannot be downloaded as it appears it can't be based on my curent operating systems being Mac OSX 10.5.8.

Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from download, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $30.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number.

No. You need to phone the online Apple Store and order Mac OS X 10.6 on DVD.

From where did you lose the iPhoto icon? From the Dock? If so, then it's still in your Applications folder. Find it there then drag the icon back into the Dock. If it's no longer in Applications perhaps you've moved or renamed it. Use Spotlight to search for "iphoto."
Upgrading to Mountain Lion will not affect your iPhoto Library unless you erase the hard drive first. Be sure you backup before any system upgrade.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements

You want to write a review about Mountain Lion? I'm not sure that you can write about the OS at the app store - it's not an app. Or are you talking about the online Apple store? If you want to send feedback to Apple, you could use this:

  • I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?

    Other options?

It's not that simple. You didn't lose your Office 2004 suite. Office 2004 won't run in Mountain Lion. You need to update your Office software. You need to purchase either Office 2008 or 2011. Either one can run in Mountain Lion.

  • HT1338 Need help locating where and how to update Mac OS-X 10.6.5 to the latest Mountain Lion Software...thanx John

I need help locating where and how to update Mac OS-X to Mountain Lion.....Thanx....Jay

First update your 10.6 version to 10.6.8 from the software update under the Apple Menu.
This will add direct access to the Mac App store via a new application.
Now launch the App Store from your Applications folder - Its the new icon a letter A formed from a ruler pencil and pen on a blue circle !
Once launched you need to add your iTunes account details or create an account add payment details etc...
Sign in purchase download and follow install processes to upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion.
OH and to be safe BEFORE you install backup your current system to an external drive !

  • After the latest Mountain Lion Update I am missing emails

I recently installed an update for Mountain Lion on my desktop iMac and now all my emails prior to 9/24 of this year are missing. Did something change in how they are stored? I can't think of why they would be gone!

When going to your software updates on your device it will provide you with the latest available update for your device.
the iPhone 4 will update to iOS 7.0.4 provided all other updates the device is asking for has been completed.
    Good luck friend.

  • So, I just purchased, apple TV and the latest Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I can mirror my IPad and Iphone with no problems, so why is the icon not showing up on my top bar like all the youtube tutorials?

why is the airplay icon not appearing in the top bad like all the tutorial videos?

I assume that you did not check before buying, if you had you would have seen that your Mac is too old for Airplay Mirroring to work:
    Supported Macs
AirPlay Mirroring in OS X Mountain Lion takes advantage of the hardware video encoding capabilities of 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core processors. Hardware video encoding allows AirPlay Mirroring to efficiently deliver high frame rates while maintaining optimal system performance. The following Mac models have processors that support AirPlay Mirroring:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
And if you bought ML solely for that function you should remove it from your machine and get a refund.

  • HT2471 I have downloaded OS x Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro but don't have iCloud

I thought iCloud is part of OS x Mountain Lion but, I cannot find it on my Macbook pro after OS x Mountain Lion download.

Is anyone running OS X Mountain Lion on the 2011 Model A1370 EMC 2471 64GB MacBook Air? Suggestions? Reviews? Any problems you have found?
I am curious if this laptop can handle it considering i have 18gb of storage left... I think outlook is killing my storage space as I have removed or discounted iphoto, itunes, photo stream, most of my dropbox folders, and my "other" usage still shows over 26GB... Odd
Anyways, just curious if I should make the Mountain Lion move or not...

  • Mountain lion crash when opening logic photobooth and lost all my music in itunes.

Why are apple apps crashing in Mountain Lion. Logic, Photobooth, iphoto and lost all my music in Itunes?

you might need to reinstall ML from the Recovery Partition.
To get to the recovery partition restart your computer,  hold CMD+R down when you hear the boot up chime. Open Disk Utility first (verify your boot disk and repair if needed) and then close it and reinstall ML.

This is the iPhone for the Enterprise forum... there is nothing about the issue that appears to apply to using an iPhone in an Enterprise (corporate) environment.

  • Is searchme part of the latest Mountain Lion update

Found Searchme extension in Safari Browser extension after latest software update.  Is this a virus or Trojan?

It may have been installed when you either installed or updated Vuze, the popular Mac bittorrent client. It has an install option in the install wizard which looks very like a normal white page T&C text but is not for Vuze but for 'Free extensions by Spigot' including Searchme extension.
In that text it does indicate all the extensions added, default search engine changed etc. Also it adds Amazon and eBay buttons to the toolbar (presumably with referral codes for click throughs)
Just remember it goes through this wizard for every subsequent update also of Vuze.
If installed you will need to manually reset the default search engine and homepage in Safari preferences back to your original choices.  Then remove the three extensions via Safari > Preferences > Extensions. Or manually trash them from ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/.
Or it could have been installed by a similar adware type install of another app. Either way check carefully all your Safari settings.
I also suffered some real problems with trying to right click select text in Safari and suspect this was the cause as the issue has gone since removing it.
