4s - same problem - but try this: once you are at the specific account level and you entered SMTP information under the Outgoing Maild Server (the SMTP info is supplied by service provider whether it's IMAP or POP) touch > the SMTP line, go to the next screen and make sure the primary server is the same as SMTP server on the previous screen then touch primary server (and the primary server should show on) and make sure the next data fields are filled in (host name, user name, password). Under the Authentication touch the line (whioch should include"Password" and in the last screen check "Password". Backout saving as you go and it should work. Remember each service provider will have different settings (especiall SMTP) but you should be able to get them from their websites or customer service. You may already have them, just complete the last screens.
I have 5 IMAP accounts and 4 went down with this problem at the same time. All are working fine now. My theory is that I was working in an very secured environment using their WiFi network. It allowed me to receive but not send, reply or forward. I assume it overwrote my outgoing settings.

Those menu bar commands are disabled when you do not have a device (your shuffle) selected in iTunes.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of iTunes) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, your shuffle should be listed under DEVICES. Click on it there to select it. Now, those commands under the File menu should be accessible.
However, once you have the shuffle selected, many of those "device-related" commands in the menu bar are also on the iTunes window. For example, there is a Sync button at the low-right corner of the window, which does the same thing as the command in the menu bar.

I bought a new computer, and i have transfered everything using home share, file transfers, etc.. yet still when i go to sync, itunes tells me ipod can only be synced with one computer... is there a way to retire the relationship with the old computer?

i bought a new computer. the itunes app allows for home shareing, file transfers, etc.. but i want to discontinue the syncing with the old computer and sync my ipod touch now only on my new system... but i cant seem to disconnect that old relationship at all.. when i try to syncit says that my ipod is already synced with another computer, do i want to discontinue that and only use the new informationon this computer? i dont want to do that yet because it doesnt seem like everything has come over, and i am afraid of losing songs that i downloaded from cds, etc..

if you don't want to sync it because you don't think that everything has been transferred then i would check first if you can, before you commit to used only the data from your new computer.
though, im not sure if this is true, but i think that when you sync your ipod to a new computer it will take the items from your ipod and put it on itunes, like when you purchase something on your ipod and it gets automatically transfered, but don't take my word for it.

When I did it the first time the photographs were all muddled up in their albums. When I tried to sync again the photographs were all removed. back up is stored on Time Capsule but I cannot get it.
I went to Time Capsule with another Mac and could read the following info:
Back up file is Macbook Pro.sparsebundle, is that a normal extention for a back-up? To be opened with DiskImageMounter or should I better change it to Disk Utility? This is just a file I cannot open it as a folder.
There is a file called Backups.backupdb but it is empty!
I restarted several time and I got partial everything back.
I have runned several times disk utility and it mention that all is ok now.
I reinstalled Mountain Lion and it was ok but seems that some info have been lost in the folders again.
More strange, the sub folders in main folders are appearing on the desktop. They just get out of it.
From the other side, I back-up (copied) several main folders on Time Capsule but after copying again several folders or just documents appeared in different folders on Time Capsule. Mixed all actually! **** of a thing to put all right again.
Last, on Mac Mini Server I upgrade Mountain Lion and all went Ok (seems too at least) except that Server App is not working anymore.

I recently installed a new hard drive on my PC, downloaded iTunes, updated the software on my iPod touch and now I get this error message when I try to sync: "you do not have enough access privileges for this operation." It never did this before, whether it's the upgrade in software or something in iTunes, but it's very frustrating, since I'd like to add more things to my iPod.
