HT1727 My old computer died before i could put my new itunes purchases on it. Is there anyway to get them to my new computer? The hard drive somehow fried and is of no use.

I had just purchased like $30 worth of new songs and my old computer. two days later it died on me before i could upload them onto my ipod touch. i tired to get geek squad at best buy to transfer all of my music from my old computer to the new one but they said it could not be done since i somehow fried the hard drive. so i was wondering if there is anyway to get at least my newly purchased songs back? i got my old purchased songs off of the ipod i just want the new ones.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer for this very reason.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

how do  i deauthorize a computer that has had the hard drive lock up and can not get it working

You can only deauthorise individual computers directly on them. Otherwise if you've reached the 5 computer limit, then you should be able to log into your iTunes account and 'deauthorise all' (which you can only do once every 12 months) and you can then (re-)authorise up to 5 computers : authorising and deauthorising.

  • My old PC died before I could deauthorize it

My laptop died before I could deauthorize it an allow me to sync to the new PC. Now I have all my apps and music, etc. on the iPad but it won't let me sync onto the new laptop because I'm "still sharing" with the old (now dead) laptop. Is there a way to deauthorize the old laptop without it being on?

Open itunes on an authorized machine, go to the iTunes store, click your Apple ID in the top right corner, choose Account, enter password, choose "Deauthorize all" on the right hand side. You can only do this once per year.
However, machine authorization has nothing to do with device synchronization. The problem can be solved by copying all iTunes library files from your old machine over to the new one. If you can't do this, then you need to start from scratch and tell iTunes to set up a new sync relationship with your new computer, effectively deleting all synchronized content (music, tv shows, movies, etc..)

  • HT1727 How do I deauthorize a computer whne the hard drive has crashed and is not recoverable ?

How do I deauthorize a computer when the hard drived has crashed and is not  recoverable ?

You cannot directly deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so unless you've hit that limit it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead unit now. If you really want to deauthorize that system now, you can go into your iTunes Store account and there will be a "deauthorize all" button. You can then re-authorize the computers you're using.
Note that you can only use the "deauthorize all" option once per year, unless something's changed very recently.

  • Would the ir censor go bad if the hard drive cable went bad sens they bout use the same cable?

what happend was that i have an intel ssd 80GB. i was installing a water colling system to my tower so i had to unplug my ssd. ones i had installed my water cooling sytem to my wotwer i pluged in my  sdd but it didnt work like if it had died. so i swipet out my macbooks hard drive for the ssd  to see if my macbook would reconise the hard drive in the utility but it didnt, and when i put my macbooks hard drive back in. the hard drive dosent get any power. you cant hear it turn on or anything. what i desisded to do is use the enclouser that you use for the optical drive and my mac boots up fine, could  my hard drive cable gone bad? if so why does the IR cencor work if they bouth use the same cable and end up in the same conector. i have a macbook pro mid 2009 5,5

2009 MacBook Pros are notorious for having sub-standard SATA cables. I'm 99% certain that's your problem. Even though the IR sensor is on the cable, that doesn't mean that the cable is good - nor does it mean that it's not faulty if it will boot with a hard drive but not with a SSD - SSDs are simply more 'needy' when it comes to a good SATA cable.
Visit www.ifixit.com and find the Apple part number and search for the item on eBay - much cheaper than buying from ifixit; although ifixit will have the instructions for installing the cable.
    Good luck,

  • Is there anyway to get songs off ipod onto computer

Is there anyway to get songs off an ipod onto a computer, i want to put some songs on a different computer

iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Old computer died before I could deauthorize- help!

I had iTunes set up on a Windows XP system. I had recently bought materials that I had not backed up to a cd, and I have about 15 bucks left on a gift card. My computer died.
I bought a Windows Vista system, and now I see that I had to set up a transfer of purchases and deauthorize my old computer... how can I do that when it's dead???
Am I totally out of luck here? What can I do to save all of my purchased music? If I have to reload all of my CD's, that's fine by me. I just want my 90 some purchased songs and I want what's left of the gift card.

You can't deauthorise a 'dead' installation on it's own, however you can authorise your new computer without deauthotising the old one. Also once you reach the limit of 5 authorisations, you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go which will eventaully take care of the "lost" authorisation: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

Sure, as soon as you open iTunes with the new iPod connected, it will have a "Welcome to your New iPod" screen. Just choose Restore from backup.

  • I got rid of my old PPC iMac G5 2 years ago, but kept the hard drive.

I have been trashing stuff, but I can't seem to empty the trash. I'm getting this message:
There is no clue as to what I was doing before that came up, so I don't know what to do to fully empty the trash. I do wish the system would give me some kind of clue as to what I was ACTUALLY doing/did so that I could correct the situation.
The hard drive is encased in a caddy and connected to my current iMac via a USB 3 connecting cable.
Any help would be appreciated. Be advised: I don't get on well with technical 'jargon'. The key phrase is: keep it simple, please!

I've had a look through the trash, and yes, there are items that were originally on the old drive such as Epson
printer instructions in the form of gif's, but what I can't find are the backup files that I trashed, i.e. the ones with the umbrella icon.
For what it's worth, when I bought my current machine, it was already bundled with Mountain Lion, but a few months ago, I updated to Mavericks (10.9.1) which you correctly identified.
A large quantity of the stuff I trashed were photos. Surely those shouldn't make any difference? In fact, some of the photos that were on the old hard drive, seemed to safely migrate to the current machine without any problems.
Admittedly, there were some applications that wouldn't open because they were created in Tiger. If I trash those, would they be the reason why I can't empty the trash i.e. Tiger applications in a Mavericks Trash bin?'
Here's a screenshot from the trash of the folder 'Applications'. Notice the greyed out 'No Entry' logo over most of them. Those were from Tiger-based creations. One final question: would it be any easier just to have the hard drive totally purged and start afresh?

  • How can I remove the hard drive from an iMac g4 before recycling it?

How can I remove the hard drive from an iMac g4 before recycling it?

There are take-apart guides online.  For example
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/imac_g4/imacg4_takeapart.html
However, you can also consider securely erasing the hard drive instead.  You can do this using a Mac OS X installation disc with a version that your iMac G4 can boot from the optical drive.  If this is a viable option, please post back (include Mac OS X version on installation disc).

  • Using a CD on the hard drive.

Is it bad for the hard drive to run cds off of it (using disk images created with Disk Utility).

I think you missed the point of my post. Your hard drive is spinning virtually ALL THE TIME during normal use of the computer, so running a disk image won't make it spin any more than it already does.
But the idea of an external drive to store disk images of all your CD games is a good idea, even if it is just to offload your main drive from all that data so it can run the OS effeciently.

  • Computer died & had to be restored before I could sync new iTune purchases

I made several purchases through iTunes store and before I could sync to iPod my computer died. With new computer, I can ee past purchases on activity but how can I get them to iPod without having to purchase again?

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on any of the links on this page you'll find a space at the bottom to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
