It's not possible to have a totally blank iPhone as you describe.
Sounds like she simply restored it as "new".
Try reading the User's Guide so you'll have a better understanding of how the iPhone works.

I just bought an Iphone4. When I tried to hook it up to Itunes it said i needed to update to 10.5 or higher. My Mac says 10.6.3 is available for download but it won't complete the task. It says my software is up to date. I DON'T want to start on Icloud. I have friends who have it and hate it. I like working from ITunes. Please help me figure this one out.

When I bought it it was working just fine. There was no sim in it when I got it. I went into the settings and reset the phone back to factory. The phone rebooted itself and now, when the loading symbol is done loading, it goes away for a second and then is right back. It just keeps rebooting over and over until it's dead.
My computer won't find it and the charger isn't charging it anymore.Possibly... but per the terms of use of these forums, discussion of jailbroken devices is not permitted.

I just bought an android phone and the previous owner of the number had an iphone and imessage wont work, how do I fix that?
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S4, and my wife has an iphone. We found out that imessage wont come through from her. After we went to the AT&T helpdesk they said that she could turn off imessage on her phone and that I would get texts on my S4. But then so would everyone else who has an iphone. That won't work for everyone in my company that has an iphone. So what I am wondering is- since I recently got this phone, should I get a new number? Or should I contact ATT or contact Apple to try and get this number de-activated? I'm thinking I'll never get into the icloud account that this number is attached to, but maybe someone has some advice on that?
I just sincerely want imessage to work on this phone and I'm willing to take the steps to do that.

You accidentally tapped-and-held a little too long and you entered what many people call "jiggly mode" - i.e. app reorganization and deletion mode. When in this mode, you can move apps around on your various home screens, create and organize app folders, and delete apps (by tapping the X).
Exit this mode by tapping your Home Button one time. -

To ensure my old iPhon4 was backed up i...
1. Deleted the iPhone4 backup from iTunes prefs(devices)
2. I then sycnched the iPhone4 to get a new backup of the old Phone.
I then installed my new iPhone5 from the fresh backup of the old iPhone4
This way i got my new iPhone5 exactly as my old iPhone4
Screens all looked the same, EVERYTHING the same.
Some minor adjustments were needed afterwards.

Distorted aspect ratio of exported WMV clip
This is truly bizarre. If I output from the timeline using Quicktime Conversion to a WMV file, the aspect ratio is wider than when I output to a Quicktime format. This also happens when I export to the AVI file type. Any clues?
