i disconnected my 4th gen ipod in middle of sync to itunes. now frozen with a picture of cable and itunes logo. if i plug into computer says i must restore and lose everything. have 1000 pictures not backupped. please help!

That's not good news. I'm sorry to say those photos may be gone.
Before giving up, you might try to force the iPod to restart. I've seen them "realize they're OK" after doing that, but rarely.
To restart, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together for about 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

  • HT201263 Ipod touch 1st generation in restore mode

I am at point no 4 of the restore mode process but when I try to connect to iTunes it is saying it cannot connect to the iPod touch because it is protected with a passcode and that I have to take the passcode off first, but I can't access it!

    - Place the iPod in Recovery mode and then restore.
    - If not successful, try DFU mode and then restore.

  • 3rd gen iPod will not complete the RESTORE process with new Hard Drive

I have an 3rd gen iPod and I have replaced the hard drive with a newer MK2006GAL. The drive formats fine with a USB cable, formating Mac OS Extended Journaled. It will not complete a "restore" when connected via FireWire in iTunes or with any ipod updater utility. this happens on any mac (we have several). It will not even see the iPod updater when connected via USB and it says MUST CONNECT WITH A FIREWIRE CABLE. It will not format with Disk Utility when connected with the Apple FireWire cable only USB. This is the second new hard drive I have tried. I thought the first "replacement drive" was bad. Turns out it must be something else. Does this sound like a bad battery or motherboard or bad FireWire cable to you? The connectors look fine (under magnification). other problems, while this iPod will not Restore properly, it also will not turn off.
Would like to know if anyone else has seen this trouble.
    thanks.

    Hmm now getting this message.

It still will not format. Does anyone know what a 1429 error is?

  • HT201263 ipod white screen will not restore

Tonight got white screen on my ipod, looked on apple website - tried to reboot and then tried to restore still white screen any other ideas please

Try the steps in the article that I linked above.
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com)  on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.
An easy way to find out if this is caused by the security software is to just uninstall it. If it works, just update the iPhone then reinstall the security software and try to set it up in a way that doesn't cause a problem.

    Hello AS234,
This error is typically indicative of a conflict with installed security software.
    Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
    Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.

    - Try on another computer

    - Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ipod touch 4th gen was accidentally disconnected from laptop during update process. Now permanent screen pic is of the power cord w/ an arrow pointing up to itunes symbol. Holding the ctr & power buttons together for 6-10 sec causes apple pic to briefly appear and power cord/itunes pic reappears. Powering off and on has same effect. Attempting to reset.

It sounds like the iPod touch is in Recovery Mode, Try to restore it from iTunes again.

  • IPod stuck in restore process

Hello. I was restoring my 15GB iPod, the very old version (with the buttons on top of the wheel) and before finishing the restore process my computer displayed an error message. It said that the iPod could not be completely restored and that was that.
Now, I cannot see the iPod in iTunes nor will it work, it just displays the little apple logo. I tried everything that's specified in the troubleshooting documents on apple's website, reseting, etc, and nothing seems to work. It seems it got stuck in the middle of its restore process. All the indications on the troubleshooting documents imply that you can see your iPod on iTunes, nevertheless, I cannot.
Any sugestions? By the way, I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.5.1, iTunes version 7.6 (29).
    Thanks a lot!
    Tiger

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Refurbished iPod: Restore process and power-up requirement

The battery in my old (c. 2003) iPod finally died, and I paid Apple for repairs -- they sent what appears to be a refurbished iPod of the same era.
The accompanying letter noted that this iPod was formatted for Mac OS, and to use it with Windows, I'd need to run Restore from iTunes.
I plugged it into my PC running Windows XP, and ran Restore. It seemed to complete successfully, but at the end, it said I needed to plug the iPod into a power source to complete the process.
On the screen of the iPod was a little image of a cable-end plug being plugged into the port in the bottom of an iPod.
I had a "GGI Gear Rapid MINI AC CHARGER [for] Apple iPod Models" (110 - 240 volt) so I plugged in into the iPod and into the wall socket. The red light on the charger came on, indicating the power was flowing.
After charging for about 8 hours, I disconnected it. When I pressed the menu button, all I got was the Apple followed by the little image of a cable-end plug being plugged into the port in the bottom of an iPod.
Does anyone know what I can do next to complete tehe restore process and get my old iPod up and running?
Is anyone familiar with the "GGI Gear Rapid MINI AC CHARGER [for] Apple iPod Models"?
Apple sells its own brand of plug-in recharger, right? Would I be getting a better result if I were using it?
