HT201320 when trying to set up my email account, i enter add account tap in my details for my virgin media email account, after going through the veryfying, it comes back with cannot connect using ssl.
when trying to set up my personal email account, following the on screen instructions, it comes back with CANNOT CONNECT USING SSL, do you want to try setting up the account without ssl? Yes or No
Since Thunderbird does not run on iPads, what does this have to do with Thunderbird?

Not sure what the shortcut is. I'm just going, Settings > Mail > Add Account > Gmail
That is the GMail shortcut. That should work. Just for testing, use the "Other" shortcut.
Settings / Mail / Add Account / Other
Name: <put your name>
Email [email protected]
Incoming server: pop.gmail.com
Login: [email protected]
Password: yourpassword
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
Login: [email protected]
Password: yourpassword
Hit SAVE.
It should set itself up correctly without you having to specify anything else. Try that. -
While upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2 something went wrong and came up with the message "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred [1015]." Now it will not start at all. It just stays on screen with USB and the iTune picture. What can I do to get it going again. I only tried to upgrade because I was prompted to up-grade and now I am helpless. I did a backup before starting the upgrade. The error message did not tell what to do next. Any help is very much appreciated.
Usually that means the iPhone was hacked to unlock it from the original
carrier .
Updating the operating system locks it back to that original carrier

I was having problems accessing the gmail server on my iphone so i deleted the account settings on the iphone and am creating a new one. However, the iphone tells me that it cannot connect using SSL. I'm not sure what caused the issue. I believe account may have been automatically locked because abnormal activity.

Have you Googled for: setup XXX email on iPhone
where xxx is the provider
You can try going to Mail>the accounts>Advanced and turn Use SSL on or off, the opposite of what it is now. -

Try just choosing yes when it says that. And yes if you get it a second time. Lots of mail providers don't use SSL.

I am having problems transfering contacts to my I pod when syncing the message comes back with contacts in use by I pod please close and try again, please could you let me know how to close contacts on the pod or is there a setting that is wrong etc, i have restored the device. if i go to contact via settings the screen comes on for about 2 seconds and then goes off - Help
Single click on the Home button. Then double click on the Home button. In the recently used row, touch and hold the Contact app till they start to wiggle and then tap the minus sing by the contacts app.
Also make sure the Contact program on your computer is closed. -

My ipad is flat and when I plug it in to charge it just repeatedly turns on and then turns off but isn't charging. I tried to plug into itunes but it just goes through the same ritual and can't maintain connection to itunes. What should I do ?

2. Try another wall socket
3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
4. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)
5. Clean Lightning port with compress air or new paint brush -

So, about a week ago my macbook pro started having lots of issues: wifi connectivity, slow performance, sound issues, spotlight wasn't working. After going through the issues with apple support, they decided the best course of action was to erase the hard drive and do a reinstall. Since I have a recent backup this seemed like a good enough option. They were kind enough to send me a copy of the snow leopard disk to do the install since we couldn't get it to complete through the disk utility. Not sure why, since it says we are fully connected, it just never completed.
Anyway, so now that you have the background here is the new issue. The macbook pro keeps spitting out the disk I'm trying to install from. Disk utility and using the 'Startup Disk' function from the apple menu doesn't read the disk.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this vexing problem?
