Are you sure you have a 2G iPod? See:

A 2G can go to iOS 4.2.1 via iTunes directly if you have iTunes 10.X on your computer.
A 1G can go to 2.2 via iTunes amd 3.1.3 via the link proved already in this discussion.

This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

if you have done restores then possibly it is a firmware issue... i would take it to the apple store if you can to get it looked at...

HT1595 In a hilton hotel and the honors internet is recognized by my apple tv but it doesn't ask for the password. It says it's connected but it won't bring up iTunes because it's not really connected. help!

I'm in a Hampton Inn trying to connect my apple tv to the wifi. Apple TV recognizes and says it's connected but doesn't ask for the password and is not actually connected because it can't download Itunes. How can I get the Apple TV to ask for a password. I noticed another wifi connection from someone in another room and when I clicked on that the Apple TV asked for the password, but doesn't for the hhonors wifi. Anyone know what to do?

I tried to sync some new songs bought from iTunes into my ipod using my laptop, (for the first time). It would not add the new songs to the ipod. I tried several times, with same result. I never had this problem using my desk top computer.

I also am having a problem with the songs I purchased using the laptop not showing on the desk top itunes, even though it is authorized to do so. The new songs did show up on the iPad iTunes, however. Have no idea why. I thought this happened automatically.

Why is it that whenever I want to sync some songs it gets stuck? I wanted to sync some new songs. I don't sync all my songs from my laptop but just choose some. Everytime I choose a new band, or just some new albums from the band, it won't sync.

Did the original songs that do not appear on the car player play in the Music app on the iPod? Sometimes glitches happen and they do not. Disable Autosyncing via iTunes Preferences first. Head to Edit -> Preferences and click the Devices tab and make sure there is a tick mark next to disabling autosync. Then take a look at this older post from another forum member Zevoneer for different ways of copying content from your iPod back to your PC.

Itunes won't sync my new songs into my iphone 4s

I would like to know why one of the last itunes updates won't let me sync music into my iphone 4, instead it added music I don't want and I looked for these songs on my itunes library so I could delete them hoping this would this would fix the problem and they're not even in my itunes library. I find this strange since when my iphone wouldn't sync these songs that I did want and added songs I didn't I tried to sync my ipad and everything went well. Also, when I want to play a certain song on my iphone it goes to another one that I don't want and plays that one. I want to know how to fix all these problems, thank you.

I was having the same issue and it was extremely frustrating for me. I tried everything short of restoring to an earlier backup, but what worked best for me was plugging in my phone and looking at summary>options> and clicking convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps. It worked for me, although I'll be the first to admit that I don't know why. I have about 2,900 songs in my library, so it did take an hour and a half for all of the songs to convert and then sync in their new forms, but I was so relieved to have the issue taken care of that I really didn't mind. Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album. These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer. If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically". Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141. To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar. Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

The transfer purchases option only works for tracks that were purchased from the iTunes Store. You'll need the help of third party software to extract all other non-iTunes purchased content and music. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano. I recently upgraded to Lion which is causing lots of issues. Aside from that, I went to the Itunes store to purchase books like I have done at least 100 times before with no problems. Now I can by the book and get it to my computer, however when I tried to download the book to my 3rd generation ipod the dialog box informed me that to download any new audiobook purchases I would need an ipod touch. My ipod nano 3rd generation serves my purposes just fine. Why should I be forced to buy something I do not want just to continue something I have always done seamlessly? I know this is more of a rant than a question but I am sure someone else out there has had this happen to them. Maybe you could share your thoughts on how to work around this issue if possible?

I forgot to add the last obvious and crucial step I had taken - plugging a different iPod into my system. It was also not recognized. That was the final proof I needed to determine if the problem was device or system. But now what?

Yes I have already reset to default factory settings, No we do not have our service encrypted or password protected, anyone else have any other viable suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
