Yes, yes, yes... I've gone through all the common sense trouble shoots. Would't be here asking questions if that answers existed on the net. Sorry if I sound a bit edgey, but I've had nothing but issues with every update since IOS 7. Clearly there's nothing that can be done about this. and this is the final nail in the coffin to try to make me buy an Iphone 5.

After you place the iPod in recovery mode using
iOS: Unable to update or restore
You have to then connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes. Are you doing that?

  • Iphone stuck on "Connect to iTunes screen", iTunes won't detect it

I have an iPhone 5. I tried to install the IOS 8 update via iTunes today, but after about 15-20 minutes, my phone went to the "connect to iTunes" screen and would not complete the update. I don't recall if an error number popped up, but at any rate I can't find out what it was or even if there was one now.
Since attempting to update the iPhone, I cannot get past the "connect to iTunes" screen. My computer detects that there is an apple device, but that's about it. When I plug my iPhone into the computer, iTunes runs in the background but does not pop up like it usually does. Additionally, now if I bring up the task manager and end iTunes, then iTunes still will not pop up if I attempt to run it again with the iPhone still plugged in. iTunes will only pop up if I unplug the iPhone and then run iTunes. iTunes used to pop up automatically once the iPhone was plugged in. As for trying to unbrick my iPhone:
I have tried turning the iPhone off and on again. It goes to a black screen when off, as usual. It goes to the Apple logo, and then right back to the "connect to iTunes" screen once turned on.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes after unplugging the iPhone, and then plugging the iPhone back in once iTunes was reinstalled.
I have verified that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
I have verified that the Apple Mobile USB Driver is installed
I have tried switching USB ports on my computer
I have tried putting my phone into recovery mode by unplugging it, holding the home and power buttons and then plugging it into the computer while still holding the home button, but there is no effect.
I have tried updating the phone by going to device manager, then to the update driver screen for the Apple device, and then manually selecting the update from Common Files>Apple>Mobile Device Support>Drivers, but there is no effect.
I have tried removing the SIM card, but even without the SIM card it still goes to the connect to iTunes screen once turned on again.
I have tried putting back in the SIM card, but no effect.
My iPhone has previously had trouble with the last update too, but I was able to get it working again somehow. I've since forgotten how, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this difficult. I do not know if the last update was ever installed at all after I fixed the iPhone, so I do not know my iPhone's current iOS version. I think it is iOS 7.1.2, but I do not know how to check.
I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Nevermind, I was able to fix it. I had to put my iPhone into recovery mode, and then plug it into someone else's computer with iTunes. That got it back to normal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is? I'm hoping I won't have to keep repeating this process every update...

  • Phone stuck on connect to itunes screen after update attempt

Hi, hope someone can help me. I connected my iPhone to my computer to transfer my photos from the phone to the PC. I have automatic syncing turned off.
When I connected, I was prompted to update the iTunes version, which I did. It's now version 9. Then I attempted to update the iPhone version. I got a message saying I had to transfer my purchases first, which I did. Then I tried the update again. The update seemed to take awhile, then I got a message saying it failed. There was a "More Information" button which just prompted me to send info to Apple, which I did. Unfortunately I didn't save the info.
At that point all my iPhone info no longer showed in iTunes, and the only active option is Restore. It does say "Your iPhone software is up to date," which would seem to indicate that the update did work...I tried disconnecting and reconnecting my phone. When I do this, I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
I would rather not Restore the phone unless I have no other options, since I have 600 pics, contacts, etc on the phone...Of course not backed up since this is the first time I've tried to transfer data.
So I tried a few things:
    - I disconnected and reconnected the phone several times.
    - I restarted the computer several times.
    - I went to the Apple site and tried the troubleshooting steps for "stuck on connect to itunes screen" (which is what my phone is currently doing).
    - I ran the diagnostic checks in iTunes (output below - I ran this while the phone was plugged in yet it says it's not found).
    - I held down the Home and the Sleep/Wake button until I see the Apple icon.
    - I went to My Computer > Manage and tried to update drivers, but the phone doesn't show in the device manager.
    - I tried a different USB port and there are no other devices connected to the machine.
Nothing worked, my phone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I get the error message every time I plug it in. I haven't tried another computer bc I don't have one and I'm not sure how to create/use another user account on this machine.
I wouldn't mind calling support but my phone doesn't work...Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your only choice at this point is to restore your iphone. Since it appears from your post that you have never synced to this computer, you of course will not have a backup to restore from. That means your only choice is to restore as a new device & re-sync your itunes content. Unfortunately, all of your contacts, calendars, pics in your camera roll, etc., will be lost. Its not a good idea to use the iphone or any phone for that matter as a storage device, as things like this can & do happen. You should be syncing on a regular basis. The first thing done when you do sync is an iphone backup. You should also transfer pics in your camera roll to a supported application on your computer on a regular basis, much like any digital camera. You can always sync pics back to your phone, but if the only copies are on the phone, you run the risk of losing them.
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

  • HT201263 My iPhone 4 is stuck on the "Connect to iTunes screen" after trying to update to iOS 7.0.4! Help!

I was attempting to update my iPhone 4 to the new iOS 7.0.4 via my computer after I plugged it in to create a backup copy and something went wrong before it could finish and I recieved an error message. Now my phone is stuck on the "Connect to iTunes screen". I've tried everything to reset & restore my phone with no luck!
    I have:
    -Restarted my computer
-Updated iTunes to most current version
-Turned phone on and off several times, waiting up to a half hour before turning on (to be greeted directly with apple logo then the connect to iTunes screen)
-Turned on, turned on and held home button (nothing happens)
-My computer is NOT recognizing my device at ALL! But when I plugged my boyfriends iPhone in, it detected it no problem.
I tried calling my phone from the other phone and it goes straight to voicemail. I am super frustrated! Does anybody know what is going on?

I was able to restore my phone!!!
I called Apple and they said there was nothing more I could do. I called my carrier Verizon and was able to get my computer to recognize my device after trying this-
    Solution:
After trying EVERYTHING this is the ONLY thing that worked-
I took the USB connector cable out of the USB port it was in, and tried another one on the otherside of my laptop and iTunes was able to discover my phone in recovery mode. My phone was reset and everything is fine ( thank gosh for backup copies!)

  • Ipod touch 4G is stuck in "connect to itunes" screen.

I just got my brand new Ipod Touch 4G (iOS 4.3.5), I connected it to my PC and put some music on it, I was using itunes 10.4.
I update to itunes 10.5.0 and it wouldn't recognize my ipod. I searched online for solutions with no luck.
Itunes says: "itunes was not properly install....."
In My Computer my ipod showed as Camera Device, wouldn't let me copy  videos or pictures to the folder.
In Device Manager, Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) has the yellow warning triangle
I don't have a CD with the ipod software -it didn't come with it- but I downloaded iOS 4.3.4, iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 5 in case I need them.
I updated to itunes 10.5.1 and it recogized my ipod, it said a new iOS 5 was available, so I click to update to it.
Everything was going right, until my ipod got stuck in the "connect to itunes" screen, and it didn't restore. (error 1604)
Some times (with no reason at all) itunes would recognize my ipod and say "itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. you must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes" I click OK, Restore and Update, it takes  some time and then, "error 1604"
I've been searching online, but nothing works, I've tried these:
-Putting the ipod in DFU mode, it would restart the ipod but the same screen will come up.
-I uninstall, verified and reinstall itunes and its components (itunes, QT, Apple Software Update, AMDS, Bonjour, Apple Application Support)
-Restart a million times my pc after installing.
-downloaded fixrecovery.exe but it won't even start because zlib1.dll was not found.
-downloaded RecBoot and it says "I must install the following .NET framework: v4.0.30319" -How do I know what framework I have???
inside the RecBoot folder was the program iPHUCWIN32.exe, I started it and it says "this application has failed to start because iTunesMobileDevice.dll was not found".
    *Note:
My HP Pavilion G60-235DX Notebook won't let me install updates from the Windows Update software (error 80096001). for a while now.
The DVD/CD drive dissapeared from my computer (about 2 months ago), haven't found a solution for it yet (can't afford to take it to a repair shop or send to HP) that's why I'm trying myself.
I want a solution for the IPOD problem, the rest will come later.
Seriously guys, can some one help me with this? I'm desperated...
Any good software to restore my ipod ? (I don't care about erasing all the content -I want it to work like it supposed to).

I connected my ipod to another pc with windows vista also, with itunes ver. 10.4.1.10 but error 3194 came out, so now I'm going to try this:
    Exit iTunes
    Locate your hosts file:
    In Mac OS X /etc/hosts
    In Windows c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges using Notepad.
Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Connect your device to the computer
    Launch iTunes
Put device into DFU Mode by turning your device off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS device
Once your iOS update is finished, remove the “#74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” line from your hosts file again so that iTunes can properly update as usual.

  • IPod Touch is stuck in "connect to iTunes" screen. It is not recognized by iTunes or by my Windows (64-bit) computer.

I recently purchased a new laptop after my old one ceased to function. Therefore, I had lost ,my old iTunes, and my iPod is no longer authorized by a functioning computer. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, plugged my iPod in, and tried to install the new iPod Touch software update. I got the error message that the installation had failed, and iTunes automatically ejected my iPod, leaving it in the "connect to iTunes" screen, in which it has been stuck ever since (about 9 days now). I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes, have rebooted my computer numerous times, I have tried various holdings of the power button and home button as recommended on several help forums, etc. to no avail. I am using a Windows 7 (64-bit) system on a brand new HP Pavilion dm4 laptop with plenty of space and the newest version of iTunes installed. My iPod Touch (3G) is not being recognized by iTunes or by my laptop. I would like to, if possible, restore my iPod to original factory settings so that it can be authorized on my new laptop and will sync approrpiately. Any help anyone can provide will be immensely appreciated. Thank you.
Also, the iTunes is the version for a 64-bit Windows OS.

    - First I would remove and reinstall all the Apple software using the following and then restoring the ipOd.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - Next see if manually placing the iPOd in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode see:

    - Next try DFU mode:

    - If the other computer works and yours does not see:

  • IPod Touch still stuck on connect to iTunes screen after the restore. iTunes went blank.

Hi, I'm having problems with my iPod Touch. My iPod went off because the battery was empty. And when I tried connecting it to my laptop to recharge, the "connect to iTunes" screen suddenly appeared. According to iTunes I need to RESTORE it for it to work. And that's exactly what I did. However, after the restore and all, the screen is still stuck on the "connect to iTunes" screen.
By the way, it's a 2nd generation iPod Touch. And it's an MC model.
And to make things worse, my iTunes screen is totally empty. The RESTORE option is gone and I really don't know what to do anymore.
Hope you guys can help me out! I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!
