I am trying to update my iPad 2,but hen I go to settings/ general, there is no update software to click on! It goes from about to usage?

There are countless posts about this. There's a problem at Apple's end and has been so for several days.
However, I have no trouble updating using itunes on my computer and later syncing to my device.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

An iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1.

If you are running iOS 4 or earlier you will have to update using iTunes on your computer.

This feature is only available on iOS 5 or later. You must still be running iOS 4. Connect your iPad to the computer you usually sync with and run iTunes software update.

Just tried it and personal hotspot does not diapper when 3G is turned off. It is just greyed out. It will be gone completely when you don't use it for a while thus my reply to him about going to turn it on in a different menu. It is a bug that needs to be fixed in iOS.
