HT4799 Mirror always broken

The apple TV3's Mirror always broken. After the connection for a while, television‘s screen flicker, then after a period of time, is automatically broken. My ipad2’s firmware is 5.1.1. The Router is 300mbps.
There are a lot of my friends, also encountered similar problems.

If the refresh job is failing, the errors should be written to the alert log. What, exactly, does the error stack look like?

After I remove the Block Diagram, The VI under RT target is always broken.

Why the VI is always broken under RT target if I remove their BD?
My LabVIEW Version is 2012 f1. I remerber that I have done a lot of remove in the last year and works well on RT. Really don't know why it's not work this time. Even for a very simple diagram...

I removed it's BD and put it under a PXI Real-time target. It says:
"This VI has a bad connection to or cannot find a subVI or external routine but it has no block diagram to show or fix the error. You must find or correct the subVI or external routine. Check for more information in the Explain dialog box in Get Info."

Snapshot always broken ......

I created a snaphot to replicate a table with more than 40 million rows ..... but it always broken .... Is there any idea how to resolve this ? Is there any script to can automatically managed the broken snapshot ?

InDesign CC - Some network links are always broken though \\ accessible?

Though I can browse \\ into the Windows Server hosting our folders where we store our graphics, somehow InDesign CC (PC) consistently finds some, not all, but some, of the graphics links to be broken. I can open in windows explorer the network folder, without having to explicitely type any password (LDAP is set that way), and have the folder open on one screen clearly displaying in the preview pane the 'missing image'. And on the other screen I can open InDesign and the file that has that image, and most images (from the same network folder) will open up fine but some will say the link is broken. Even if no one else is on the network accessing the files.
Is this is a known issue?
Is this working as intended?
Are network folders supported?
How can I engage support to document this (apparent) bug?

.jpg, .tiff, .ai are the file types that we use that sometimes have issues.
We do not run SuitCase.
There are no special characters in the file (except spaces).

Why is my email send function almost always broken?

I have had it working a couple of times, and I'm sure I have the settings (port, address, username, etc.) correct. However, it just stops working. (It works a lot less than it's broken.)
The mail send operation hangs for a long time (and I can't cancel the send, so I get stuck in this perpetual loop).

It is working perfectly now!!! The tech at the store should be fired for not knowing something as simple as this.

Any time I use disk utility since X .3 I get tons of permissions that need fixing. Even if I run it right after I have just run it.

Before installing the 10.4.4 update I ran Repair Permissions (and it actually found a few REAL errors to report--I had installed the latest greatest Flash whatsit the other day, which left behind some permissions errors) and again after the update. My, what an impressive set of advisories! What an amazingly clunky way to do this! I used to re-run it if it actually repaired anything. The returned list of "We are using special permissions..." is so dang humongous as to make it very difficult to see whether anything actually got repaired or not.
There is NO reason to run this every day. If you run it after you install something or if you are having a problem or before running a system update you will be fine.

Zoom / Spacebar Always Broken

I am SO tired of this issue and despite SO many people posting articles about this — none of the them seem to work for me. It sometimes just goes away for reasons I cannot explain, but now it has returned and has been in full effect for weeks. Needless to say this makes everything I do harder if every time I need to move the paper or zoom in and out I have to chose the tool.
I hate this problem and seems so persistent I find it hard to believe that this is news to people. How is there not a fix to this. It started happening to me well over a year ago.

Hi. BDAqua's sound advice will identify whether or not the keyboard itself is at fault. If by this means you discover that your iBook keyboard is faulty or if you want to go straight to a KB replacement instructions for removal/replacement can be found here:

It is not a difficult job and Apple wouldn't have published the instructions if they didn't think that the procedure was fairly simple. If you have mastered the complexities of the small plastic springs, clips etc. beneath the spacebar you are well able to cope with a KB replacement.
I don't know whether Apple sales still stock these, you could enquire at the office that deals with your area. They regularly come up for sale on eBay, just make sure that you get a like for like replacement and from a reputable seller with good feedback.
iFixit.com and welovemacs.com are two other, amongst many, sources that you might like to investigate. iFixit also have instructions on their website.

Tried to watch a movie on the big screen (two, actually) tonight on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display, but was surprised to learn this couldn't happen.
I've owned the computer for roughly eight months now, and HDMI mirroring always worked without a hitch. Prestine sound, sharp video, and no noticeable input lag. The two TVs I tried were a Sharp HDTV and a SONY HDTV, both under five years old. The HDMI cables and inputs were fine since the usual devices, two AT&T U-verse cable boxes and a PlayStation 3, worked fine.
This has gotten me worried sick that it might be my computer, and I know most repairs on the Retina machines aren't cheap. On the other hand, could it just be a bug in 10.8.4? I really hope it is the latter and there is a painless solution to this.

I've been getting alerts from old threads where a poster complains about a post I made with a link and the link is broken. Here's an example. Finding back these posts hasn't been easy until I discovered the pattern. The original link in the post was:

And it got altered, presumably during the forums site move to:

Mapping the old PostID to the new Guid isn't exactly easy of course. But the link still works if I remove the "msdn." portion of the link. Could you please run a dbase update script that corrects all these broken links back to their original content. It shouldn't be hard considering that a link that contains "forums.msdn" and "PostID" is always broken.

Poor performance on SSD-backed ZFS pools in mirror configuration only

We are currently debugging a system with 12x Toshiba 512GB SSDs on Solaris 11.1 (Oracle Solaris 11.1.10.5.0).
The system has each SSD directly attached to a dedicated port on an LSI 9206-16e card, so there should be full bandwidth to each device all the way through the SAS and PCIe bus.
We're running dd write-tests from /dev/zero to a test filesystem. We've tried most tunables with no success; at the moment a pool of 6 mirrors always tops out at a meagre 750 MB/s. CPU utilisation is actually quite low whilst this is happening.
By contrast, if we create a pool of 3 SSDs in a stripe, we get write speeds of around 1.5 GB/s.
A pool with a single SSD in it gives write speeds of around 480 MB/s, which is what we expect.
As soon as we put the SSDs into a mirror, the performance drops off, approximately in half.
Interestingly, we have also tried offlining half the drives in the pool using 'zpool offline testpool <dev>'. When we do this, the performance picks up to the expected levels.
Is there a bug in the mirror vdev code and/or a tunable for vdevs that we've missed?

Yes, very curious indeed. I would expect the mirrored configuration to perform better not slower.
Most of my resources who could look at this are tied up in meetings all week but I have a few
questions:
1. What kind of write workload is this? Can you provide your test dd syntax?
2. Do you see any SSD related errors in /var/adm/messages?
3. Any unusual SSD temp readings?

Disk Utility: Software mirror message behavior

Dear readers
I did setup a Mac Mini Server the following way.
Disk Utility stared from the System DVD.
- Delete both internal drives
- Create a mirror inside disk utility
- Make two partitions on this newly created drive
- Installed the system
- Configured it after update
So far every thing works fine.
My question is now,
- how does the system announce the information, that the mirror is broken because of a defect of one of the mirrored drives?
- if there is such a message, is it possible to use this message inside a script which would send a report to a known email account if something goes wrong?
- has someone done something similar or how doe administrators of bigger systems (like Xserve) handle this?

New Computer Questions

I have two clients who are asking me to upgrade my computer. The type of work I do is slightly different from most people, in that I do content for video projection. Almost everything I do uses a non-standard resolution. For example the current project is 1920x3240. Currently the slowest part of the workflow is previewing and rendering. Typically the final rendering is a photo sequence of some type and encoding is done on the media server and is not part of my workflow. I used limited amounts of video footage, with most of the content created in Cinema 4D and After Effects. I use a fair amount of 3rd party effects like trapcode with high particle counts. Content is almost always broken down into small segments that are then played back through the media server, because of this, the amount of video used is pretty small.
One of my clients is willing to split the cost of a new system, so I'm willing to spend more than I normally would.

From a drive setup I would do the following:
SSD - Boot
SSD - Cache
HD Raid - Content

I have an external raid that has backup data.
I have a number of questions regarding the system.
    Does the GTX 680 make sense or should I consider a Titan?
    Will the Areca Controller make a big difference in the system for the type of work that I'm doing?
    I looked at the WD VelociRaptor10K drives, would that get much of a peformance gain?

The Areca ARC-1882i-8 has 8 internal ports, so you could go for two 4-disk raid3 or raid5 or even easier for one 8-disk raid3 or raid5, possibly with a hot-spare. Roughly, a n-disk raid3 or raid5 will give a sustained transfer rate of around 0.85 x (n - 1) x T. So a 4-disk raid3 or raid5 will give around 380 - 400 MB/s. A 8-disk raid3 or raid5 will have a transfer rate of around 900 MB/s. This shows the advantage of more disks in an array.
Software raids, whether in BIOS or in Windows are limited to striped or mirrored arrays, parity raids are way too slow. Striping is too risky and mirroring does not help speed.
Rendering for previews are helped by hardware acceleration for accelerated effects only. But the effectiveness of the video card depends to a large degree on the speed of the CPU, memory and disks. Unless the CPU is significantly overclocked to 4.5+ GHz, memory runs @ 2133 and the disk setup is very fast (400+ MB/s) a GTX 660 TI will not noticeably be slower than a GTX 680.
Rendering for export is only helped by a CUDA card when scaling, blending or blurring are applied. If you start with HD source material and export to HD resolution, there is no scaling and thus no acceleration by a CUDA card. It is all done by the CPU, memory and the disks.
If you are talking about Velociraptors 10K, no they are not faster than the HGST Ultrastars.
If you are talking about 15K SCSI disks, yes they are faster but require a SCSI controller, both of which make them much more expensive.
Despite having made the feature request for a render farm numerous times, I think since CS3, this has not yet been effected for PR. A render farm like you have in Vue would be a nice addition, but alas...
If you want to have more room for future growth, I would have a look at the 12+4 or 16+4 port ARC 1882iX controller cards. Not only do they expand on the number of ports to 12 or 16 internally, they also add 4 external ports and most importantly, they can accept up to 4 GB cache on the card, where the 8 port versions are limited to 1 GB fixed cache. Do not forget to add a BBM battery backup module to the Areca controller.
If you were to take this step and have all those ports available for future expansion, then it could be wise to have a look at the GTX 780, provided overclocking is applied. The GTX Titan is just too costly to justify.

10.6.2 update causes all non-Apple applications to crash.

Hi: Hoping for some expert help here.
Updated from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 today, using the combo update. The Software Update version refused to install.
After a reboot, I was *unable to open any non-Apple branded application*. Firefox, Adobe CS3 or CS4, Roxio, MS Office, you name it. All Apple branded apps, iLife, iWork, Mail, Safari, all performed well.
I created a new admin account, hoping that those problems would not occur - but they did.
I have since done a Time Machine backup and am ready to do a clean install to rid myself of this mess.
Before I do, I'm wondering if there's an easy fix out there.
I did do a repair permissions before and after the install. I have removed Application Support files from the Library (both in the root and my profile).
Am now angry and frustrated, but this isn't the first time Apple has let me down with a poor update package.
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Keep in mind:
1. There is no evidence that the Snow Leopard updates have broken anything for most users -- because of the focus of forums like this one on problems, they are not reliable indicators of typical results.
2. Among the reports of Snow Leopard update problems, many if not most are caused by unidentified pre-exsting conditions, not the updates themselves. These things should be fixed whether or not you update the OS because they usually get worse over time & eventually can't be ignored.
3. For almost all users there are very strong incentives to install the updates. Among them:
• Eliminating bugs that have been identified in the original release of the OS, typically ones that occur under relatively rare conditions. Just because one has not affected you yet does not mean it won't in the future.

Every OS release is subject to deadlines; there are always some things that could be improved given more time to work on them. Software updates give the engineers the time they need to add these tweaks to the system.

The OS is pretty secure to begin with; however, it is not so secure that users should become complacent about this -- especially since many of the flaws are well documented, meaning those with malicious intent can easily learn how to exploit them. This has been a historic problem with Windows: so many users of that OS are so lax about applying security updates that Windows malware that could not exploit the updated OS still regularly spread across the Internet & affect tens of millions of users. This includes Mac users because the malware often turns the vulnerable computers into "zombies" used to create botnets to do things like generate spam or launch denial of service attacks.
There is little indication that this kind of malware currently targets Macs -- Windows computers are still the low hanging fruit most malefactors target -- but continued complacency among Mac users about this issue plus the increasing market share of Macs do not bode well for the future.
Simply put, all OS's should be considered ongoing works in need of improvement. Apple does not make public all the fixes or improvements any OS update provides, so unless you try them you won't know how significant they will be for you. Caution is good -- always have a backup/reversion strategy should something go wrong -- but the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it" does not apply -- the OS is always broken so it is really a matter of how broken it is, not if it is or isn't.

Viewing Canvas Video Feed on a Seperate Monitor through DVI or Component

Hey All,
This is something I have been researching with no simple, possibly cost efficent solution. Basically I would like to view the timeline canvas feed on a seperate monitor without the use of my hvx200. I will be editing in 720p60 and have an 17" hd tv with component and dvi inputs on the way.
I mainly will be using this monitor on productions as a field monitor but I would like to eventually use it as a second monitor on my mac pro to view only the video timeline feed of final cut pro on it, not mirror desktop and have a somewhat fuzzy (sd on a second monitor through mirroring always seems degraded).
I have looked at possible devices like the matrox and blackmagics pci cards to either sdi (which I dont have) hdmi and such but those start at $1000, a great deal of money I do not have at the time.
I would think that since the monitor has both a vga 15pin and digital dvi input there either has to be an option in fcp I have not seen or a device that I have not found.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Look at the back of your mac and see if you have two monitor ports on your video card. Depending on the type of card you should be able to connect to your HD monitor as a second screen and then setup FCP to put external video on the digital cinema desktop.
I am using a siimilar setup, using a Dell Ultra-Sharp flatscreen as both my second computer monitor and my external video. The Dell's have DVI, VGA, component, S-video, and composite inputs, but right now I'm just using the DVI and FCP switches the video back and forth when I turn on external video.
