    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
    Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
    That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Ipad 1 crashes the music app

    need help with my ipad 1 which all of a sudden crashes the music app (that comes with it) as soon as i try to open it

    Hi adossantos,
    Is your iPad software up to date (settings --> general --> software update)? Also, when did you last sync and backup your iPad with your iTunes on your computer? Make sure you do this as it may sort it out, and will allow you to backup your iPad incase you need to restore it. This is prusiming you use a computer, if not, make sure you back up everything via iCloud.
    Hope you manage to solve this problem,
    iAnima.

    Received e-mail in Chinese character which I can't delete. It's crashing the mail app. What to do?

    In addition to deleting the errant email from the email provider's web page (using a PC):
    1. Close the Mail app from Multitasking: Double-tap the Home button which will bring up the running apps icons (Multitasking) along with an app screenshot "card" above the icon. Tap-drag the icons left/right to find the particular app. Tap-drag the app's "card" (NOT the icon) up and off the screen.
    2. Wait about 30 seconds
    3. Reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • How do I keep two different iPads from having all the same apps

    I have an IPOD Touch and an IPAD 2.  My wife would like the IPAD 2 since I am getting the new iPad.  Right now the IPOD Touch and the IPAD have all the same apps on them, since I cannot create a different configuration for each one.   Now that I am getting the new IPAD, how do I set up a different sync configuration for each of the two IPADs?  Right now I have to manually delete the IPOD Touch apps from the IPAD each time I sync, since they do  not display correctly on the IPAD (small screen in middle of IPAD).   I just wonder if I have to manually remove my apps from my wife's IPAD every time I sync the IPADs in ITunes.  She does not want all the stuff I currently have on my IPAD.  I use an iMAC for the sync.
    Thanks

    It sounds like you're using the same AppleID to purchase apps for all devices, is that right? If so, you need to make sure that
    - You turn OFF automatic downloads for Apps (on the device, Settings, Store, Apps, turn off downloading)
    - You manually sync each device through iTunes (once you connect the device, or if you sync through wifi, you can specify which apps get synced to each device). In the Apps tab in iTunes, make sure you only select the apps you want to be on that device.

  • I've just spent the last three hours importing photos from a portable hard drive.  Now I can't see any of the photos I imported instead there is a black/white photo of a palm tree, setting sun and water?  HELP!

    Help!

    Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Since only one option can be run at a time start with
    Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
    4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I try to restore my ipad mini but last three hours until now its not responding.

    when i connect to the wifi it just have a check sign but there's no wifi sign that i connected. there is no 3 oblongs signs in the side of the ipad letters.

    Perform a Reset on the iPad (different from just restarting).
    Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds (ignore the red slider button). Keep holding it until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of both buttons. This “reset” fixes a lot of iPad issues and might work to resolve the issue you're experiencing.
    Hope this helps!

  • AddSubmenuAt crashes the AIR app

    ...when attached to the system tray icon. If I add the menu, then click the tray icon, the app crashes. Check out the attached code. Looks like there's a workaround in that you can addSubmenu, then build menuitems after that. AIR v 1.5.0.7220 (Flash authoring) and 1.5.2.8900 (AIR SDK), Win XP.
    code for a blank FLA frame 1 with simple button intance bb on the stage:
    var ar:Array = new Array();
    var bmp:BitmapData = new BitmapData(26, 26, false, 0x88FF0099);
    ar[0] = bmp;
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.icon.bitmaps = ar;
    var men:NativeMenu = new NativeMenu();
    men.addItem(new NativeMenuItem("test1", false));
    men.addItem(new NativeMenuItem("test2", false));
    var sub:NativeMenu = new NativeMenu();
    //men.addSubmenuAt(sub, 1, "subber"); // fail
    //men.addSubmenuAt(sub, 0, "subber"); // fail
    //men.addSubmenuAt(sub, men.numItems, "subber"); // good
    men.addSubmenu(sub, "subber");
    men.addItem(new NativeMenuItem("aftersub", false));
    //men.addSubmenu(sub, "subber"); // good
    this.setTrayMenu(men);
    this.bb.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, this.onbb);
    function setTrayMenu(mm:NativeMenu)
    if (NativeApplication.supportsSystemTrayIcon)
      if (NativeApplication.nativeApplication.icon.bitmaps.length)
       var sys:SystemTrayIcon = NativeApplication.nativeApplication.icon as SystemTrayIcon;
       if (sys != null)
        sys.menu = mm;
    function onbb(e:Event)
    sub.addItem(new NativeMenuItem("sub1", false));
    sub.addItem(new NativeMenuItem("sub2", false));

    Air ow flash player for that matter won't detect camera added at runtime. It will detect if you remove the camera while you were capturing images from the camera. You can try to scan for camera suing a timer and see if it detects it then.
    There is also a not so documented flash.media.scanHardware() method, which should force a hardware scan. I did not used it yet so can't vouch for it.

  • I have iPad model number MC706B/A and battery gets very hot quickly and also discharges from 100% to 0 in under an hour with onyl one app going.  Brightness res turned right down also to stop over use on battery.

    Hi All,
    I am getting increasingly frustrated at the battery grossly overheating ( as in cannot hold it on legs as gets too hot) also that I have to keep it on constant charge a other wise it discharges from 100% to zero in well under and hour.  Is this a battery or design fault of this particular model.  Its not even a year old but I also know whilst they brought it out in March 2012 they discontinued in October 2012...
    Can anyone assist as Apple lcearly want nothing to do with a now defunct model and I am thinking that perhaps with the backing of the Trading Standards Authority and the Office of Fair Trading, Apple might just want to sit up and listen as up until now they have not.  They simply suggest that I should trade up!!!

    Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • My new Macbook Pro only lasts 3 hours.

    I bought a new 15-inch Macbook Pro in late June when the newer versions with better battery life were introduced. Unfortunately, my battery always lasts less than 3 hours. I lowered most of the default energy preferences (such as dimming the screen enormously) and turned off my wireless port, but it still only lasts 3 hours.
    Did I accidentally receive an old Macbook Pro or what? Is the 7 hour battery life just a great exaggeration?

    Well... it would be easy enough to tell if you have the older version. If the bottom of your case is a single piece of aluminum, you have the new one... if it is split in the middle with a latch (for the removable battery) you would have the old one. Apple, like everyone else, gives a "best case" scenario when it comes to battery life. Dimming the display helps... but the way you use your machine will have a great impact as well. If you are doing things that require more processing power, you will eat away at your charge faster. Also... does it actually last three hours or are you going by the estimate provided in the menu bar? The estimate is calculated by the load in your system at any given time. If you just have your machine on... but not doing anything, the estimate will be much longer than if you're running applications. To get a better idea of your usage, you should view the percentage remaining (vs. the time). The percentage remaining is the actual percentage remaining vs. an estimate.

  • PDF's crash the iBook

    Since the last updates to the iBook and the iPad, PDF's added to the iBook app when opened to read crash the iBook app. I have resorted to putting the PDF's into GoodReader so that I can read them but I would prefer to read them in iBook. Has anyone else been having this trouble?

    This solution was recommended by one of the magazines I can not read using iBooks and it works for me:
    Download Adobe Reader
    Download Downloads Lite (or the full program)
    Open Downloads Lite and browse to file's location
    Click on the link
    Select Download
    Once the file has downloaded, click on Files at the bottom of the app
    Click on the blue arrow next to the title of the product and select Open with Adobe Reader
