I button on Playback Controls
Does anyone know how to get rid of the "Info" Button on the
playback controls or to replace the "Movie Created by Macromedia
Captivate" that is shown if the user clicks this button???
THANKS!
Hi KristyH and welcome to the community
The buttons are simply bitmap images that follow a specific
naming convention. For the Info button, you should find two images.
The prefix of the image file name will be what the control name is
called. For example, for the Black Mini 1 control, the Info button
files are named:
Black mini1-infotransbuttondown.bmp
Black mini1-infotransbuttonup.bmp
So if you are using this playback control style and simply
rename these two image files, the Info bit is removed and doesn't
display.
Hopefully this helps... Rick

Info button on playback control
Is there any way to remove the Info button from the playback
control or remove the captivate logo from the info screen?Hi oopsweb and welcome to our community
Can the Info button be removed? Sure! It's just an image.
Head to the following folder:
C:\Program
Files\Macromedia\Captivate\Gallery\PlaybackControls
Locate files containing infobuttondown and infobuttonup that
begin with your playback control name, then rename them. This hides
them from Captivate. Note that you will probably need to edit the
image used for the last button that appears. This would provide
that "finished" look.
The Captivate logo is another thing. There is just no easy
way around this one. Unless, of course, one of our ever helpful
Flash folks pops in with a nifty workaround.

Exit button on Playback Control
I'm using Captivate 1. All of the buttons work except the
Exit button on the Playback Control. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
TILOTOHATILOTOHA,
If the Exit button on the playbar isn't working, I'm afraid
there's not much to be done about that. We have no control over the
functionality of the playback controls.
That said, are you previewing the movie from a web server?
Previewing locally or from a network drive imposes security
restrictions on the browser and the Flash Player, which is the
cause of most "it doesn't work" reports in these forums. The only
way to truly know if something is working is to test your files
from a web server, where the security restrictions are much
lighter.
Everybody Else,
I'm assuming you're adding your own Exit buttons on the last
slide? If so, there may be a better way. As most folks probably
know, the "correct" way to close a window at the end of a project
is to go into the Project Preferences and set the action for the
Project end options to "Close project". This usually works.
As a backup, you can also insert some Javascript code in the
slide navigation for the last slide in your project. This will
"double your chances" of being able to close the window, without
the user having to click anything:
1. Double-click the last slide and on the Slide Properties
dialog, select Execute JavaScript from the Navigation dropdown.
2. Click the Ellipses (...) button to the right of the
JavaScript field and on the Javascript dialog, type the following
code:
window.top.opener = window.top; window.top.close();
The extra bit of code at the beginning is an attempt to
prevent IE from asking the user whether they want to close the
window. It may not actually work, but it doesn't seem to do any
harm to leave it in.

If the slide navigation thing doesn't work for you, the
"button" solution is simply to add a button to the slide,
double-click to view it's properties, change the On success action
to Execute JavaScript and then enter the code as shown
above. -
Can Captivate 7's playback controls control Flash swf files?
Hi folks,
I have created a swf file using Adobe Flash and I have imported it as an animation slide in Captivate 7. I have turned on the playback controls to just have the play button and the progress bar. When I export the presentation, the playback controls do not work. The scrubber moves as the presentation is playing, but I can't pause the presentation. When I stop the scrubber or even move it left or right, it does not affect the presentation and it just keeps playing. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to create a custom nav bar in Flash as it would just be easier to use Captivate's playback bar.I don't think it can be expained quickly as it can be very complicated. But...
Select New Project/Widget in Flash and choose static widget. You need to be very adept in AS3 to actually get them to work. -
How to add a custom multimedia playback control to add a time line of what is being played?
How to add a custom skin in multimedia playback control to add a time line of what is being played? As it is being played...
I need a time line so any part of the what is being played can be found by time, ie at 1 minute and 30 seconds in and continues for 45 seconds out of a 50 minute audo.If you're talking about a playback controller within the rich media annotation (RMA) then you need to write your own widget in Flash or Flex, and then place the video and widget files using the multimedia "Add Flash" tool in Acrobat instead of the "Add Video" tool. Aside from a bunch of proprietary code to handle events, commenting and the API (which you can live without for basic play-pause-scrub applications), video RMAs are just an embedded SWF file containing an FLVPlayback component. The skin and the video file itself are added to the RMA as resource entries. You can build your own version and have it display whatever controls you want, provided you know how to write ActionScript!
If you're talking about a controller that's external to the RMA (e.g. a series of links or buttons elsewhere on the page) then in the past you would use FLV video files and the 'cue points' feature that's built into Acrobat - however Adobe removed the ability to create FLV files in the latest version of CC, so unless you have CS6 or earlier it's a non-starter. Instead you can manually set playback start points using the special "multimedia operations" link action in your PDF - though stopping playback at a defined point is very difficult without FLV cues. For that you're back to writing your own widget. -
IPad mini losses playback controls/capabilities using shared library content videos
While accessing my shared "authorized" video library on my MacBook Pro, using the latest iTunes version (as of this submission), with my sparkling new iPad mini, the playback controls simply disappear usually after a few minutes, i.e. no progress bar, buttons for stop/start/pause/"done".
The video stream from the shared library cannot be stopped without the on-screen controls so we either attempt to turn off the unit (pressing the top on/off button) or (usually) press the home button after which the video stream/app stops then return to the expected ipad screen but the residual sound stream will continue to run indefinitely.
Most of the time, we hit the home button to end the video playback then wait for the sound stream portion to end which on average takes up to 1-5 minutes to stop completely.
This is repeatable too.
SUMMARY:
1). Without power cycling, we can play a video from the shared librar
2). then wait long enough for the video controls to "go missing" or again go unresponsive
3.) then press the home button which returns you to your normal iPad screen
4.) but the sound stream portion will take a while to take its course before ending.
Also, we gave power-cycling between issues but the each and every time, the shared library video playback inevitably ended up with same results.
iPad mini with iOS 6.1.3 factory , wifi only unit with legitimate software, etc. I.e. no jailbreak nonsense.
Any suggestions? Or is this a glitch/bug which needs addressing? Or a simple setting on the unit?
Thanks in advance!!!I have nearly the same problem, but with an iPad 3rd generation. The symptoms are exactly the same, just a different device.
You documented the problem well, I can only add that resetting and reloading did not solve the problem for me. -
Create playback controls for Timeline in sync with audio?
Hi All,
Technically, I've combined two questions into one. Firstly, can someone offer some insight on how to create playback controls for an Edge animation so the user can essentially "scrub" the timeline or navigate to a specific point on the timeline. I know you can create buttons to "sym.play()" different areas but I was wondering if there was a more streamlined solution (something similar to video playback controls.) Next, I'd like the user to be able to skip to different locations while the music remains in sync with the animations. I've created a few buttons to attempt to achieve this but the music plays independently regardless of where I jump to on the timeline.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance!I had some ideas why that may be so, but then, when I thought about it, properly, i have no idea why it is that way. Maybe it is because audio has a higher priority than graphics, in OS X, but if I remember correctly, it was like this before OS X. Maybe there is an offset for latency compensation, but they made it too large. (it seems to be the same amount, no matter what the buffer size is)
just to make sure we are seeing the same thing. on my (somehat old) G4 I'm seeing about 60ms difference. -
Playback Controls Do Not Function
I have created movies that have the playback control located
at the bottom center of the movie. I have published the movie in
both SWF and HTM formats. Usually, the forward, rewind, pause, etc.
buttons work but the Exit button does not work.
Does anyone know why it doesn't work? How can I make it work?
I do not know javascript, if you are going there. I am not a
developer. I am a software trainer struggling to make a
demonstration movie work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please help quickly! I am in a bind!Hi Susan
Here is one thing to try. It may or may not work, but may be
worth a shot.
Insert the following code:
JavaScript:var
pw=window.parent;pw.opener=window.self;pw.close();
Where?
* Insert > Button
or
* Insert > Click box
or
* Movie > Preferences > Start and end tab > Movie
End Options.
Configure "Execute JavaScript" as the action.
Click the ellipsis (...) button to produce another dialog.
Paste code from above into the dialog.
Click OK to dismiss the dialog.
Click OK to dismiss the properties or preferences dialog.
Publish and test the movie.

Hi there - can anyone help me with the playback control is
captivate.
I have a captivate demo that i am loading into a flash movie,
via an empty movie clip on the flash time line, with a loadMovie
command in flash. What i want to be able to do is to create either
a javascript command, or some kind of action that will , upon
pressing the close button in the captivate move - a) close the
captivate swf, b) send the flash movie to a certain frame in the
timeline, and play.
I have tried importing the captivate demo into Flash 8 - the
results are dissapointing as you lose the caption fades, mouse
movements, and strangely, the alignment of the text in the caption
boxes. I would liek to keep the smoothness of the .swf from
captivate, but also have the movie close upon the user pressing the
close button.
ThanksI don't know how to solve this, but imagine the issue is
this:
The Lectora controls likely suppose the SWF is one long
timeline.
Captivate SWFs are movie clips in movieclips with all sorts
of layering.
So that's likely why the Lectora controls don't work...on the
other
hand, I've never used Lectora so maybe you can specify the
object
relationship they're trying to control.
The question about the audio is likely related to how an
'event' audio
clip will not stop when the timeline is stopped and will
likely run out
of sync. A 'streamed' audio clip will work as you expect. I
don't know
how CP publishes the audio, but would assume 'stream'.
Best solution, unless Lectora can help, is to NOT use Lectora
controls
on the CP SWF but use the CP controls (skin) that are
published with the
CP SWF by default... ?

Playback control changes when animation is inserted into anothr movie
Hi,
I have created a couple of movies and used a specific
playback control. When these movies (saved in swf format) are ran
separately, everything is fine and the appropriate palyback control
is shown. However, when I insert these animation (swf) into another
project, the playback control are different of this animation are
different !!! Any idea ?Hi,
The problem still exists even if I have re-created the child
movies (swf version 8) with other playback control.
I have removed the playback control of the child movies and
then just re-imported them back to the master movie. The master
moview has been then published to EXE and it is fine (the child
movies dies not show anymore the playback control).
Then i have re-inserted the playback control into the child
movie, and re-imported them back into the master, then the master
published to EXE. And the problem is back, the child movies are
showing a diffeent playback control (the same as dpierre - the skin
used is dark grey, align top left, and the buttons don't actually
work.)
Is there a way to clear any cache that exists in the files
(if the problem is the chache) ? I have a huge project with 20-25
child movies to import into the master movie. It looks like a bug

Playback Control in Captivate 4 as it was in version 3
Hi!
I have some projects made using the version 3.
When publishing them in that old Captivate, the playback control (stop, pause, etc buttons) was placed inside the borders of the project, so the measures of the whole movie (swf file) wasn't being changed.
But in the Captivate 4 the additional thick lines are added automatically. So the navigation bar becomes placed on them, not inside the project. Therefore the measures (width/height) of the swf file is increased and that is unacceptable for me.
How can I configure my Captivate 4 to publish the playback control as it was in the previous version?
I mean covering the presentation, but not taking the navigation bar out.
Thanks in advance.Hi there
Unfortunately they changed that aspect. No workaround exists that I'm aware of. About all you can do is lodge your compliaint with the development team using the Bug form. (link is in my sig)

I am trying to remove the Playback Control bar from the course. I went into Project / Skin Editor and unchecked Show Playback Control. This removed the bar from the bottom of the screen, but a smaller version now appears at the top of the screen and still allows the user to advance through the slides without even viewing them. Help!
Great! Thanks so much!
One other question about quizzes. I am assuming there is a variable or advanced action I can use for this. I want the user to take the quiz, and if they do not pass, I want the button 'Retake Quiz' to show, and force them to retake the quiz. If they got a passing score, I want the Continue button to show, so they can move on to the next slide. I currently have the Quiz Results slide set up to show the correct number of answers, the total questions, and the accuracy percent, but right now both the Continue and Retake Quiz buttons appear. I don't want them to be able to move forward by clicking the Continue button unless they haven't passed the quiz. -
"Back" functionality in playback control
Hi,
I've published my output in Captivate 3. A strange occurrence: sometimes, when I click "back" in succession in the playback control, the previous slides are displayed and sometimes the movie gets stuck on a certain slide and is unable to go backwards.
Any explanation for this?
Thanks, DGRHi there
Just thinking about this from a logical standpoint.
You have a playhead that is in motion moving from frame to frame. Along the way it may be stopped at various places awaiting some interaction or it may suddenly be moved to a different position. So repeated (and possibly fast) clicks on the back button might possibly confuse the issue. For example, if the playhead reached a point where it was suddenly supposed to skip to a different slide and you happened to click Back to move it to the skip ahead point. I could see that causing confusion.
All this is pure speculation. But I'm wondering if it's having a play in the scenario you are listing.

I just installed CS4 Production Premium after upgrading my RAM to 3GB, and the playback control doesn't work. However, all of the other buttons work. The "record" button brings up the recording dialog, etc. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?
Earlier, I was able to get a file to play, but it suddenly started looping about 1 sec of audio and the only way to shut things up was to quit Soundbooth completely.
computer specs:
2.8ghz P4
3gb RAM
plenty of HD space. Thanks for the reply. You're right; it is Windows. I restarted a few times before I even posted the initial question, and never had any luck with playback. Record actually did work, I just had to open the file in Media Player to hear it, after forcing SoundBooth to quit (and the random looping trouble I mentioned initially). Here are the settings I have available in Record Settings:
Device:
SoundBooth 2.0 DirectSound (selected)
SoundBooth 2.0 WDM Sound (unselected)
Port:
USB Audio codec (selected)
C-Media WAV device (unselected)
Monitor Input during recording is checked
Under Settings I see:
DirectSound Output Ports:
C-Media Wave Device
USB Audio Codec
DirectSound Input Ports:
USB Audio Codec
C-Media Wave Device
Checked is:
Sync Reference DirectSound Input
Card Options Full Duplex
Now, after writing all this, I opened a WAV file I have on my computer, and tried to play it. SoundBooth crashed. I reopened SoundBooth, and opened the same WAV file & selected play. The file began looping the first second of audio, while the red timeline kept moving along, as if the rest of the file was playing correctly. I know the WAV file is not corrupt, because it's a line of dialog that I used for an animation test in Flash. I restarted again, and tried to record an old 45 record with a Numark USB turntable. It recorded fine, but upon playback, it got about 10 seconds in, when it began that 1 second loop thing again, while the timeline indicated the file was playing through. I checked the file with media player, and it's OK.
Sorry for the long-winded post.
Thanks for the help,

Captivate 2 Playback Control Issue
Grretings All:
I have a Captivate Project that utilizes buttons for all
navigation, so I do not need to see the playback control bar,
except I need the user to be able to use the CC button. I was able
to go into the skin control and eliminate all the other buttons,
except the Info (I) button. So right now the CC button and the Info
button are displayed. Not only is the info button unneeded it looks
bad in the design. I believe this has come up before, but I have
not been able to find the solution. Any suggestions on how to turn
off the Info button in Captivate 2?
Thanks in advance,
