I connect my mic with an M-audio mobile pre usb device.  When I try to record, I can see that my voice is recording but can't hear it during playback.  I tried different input and output settings but it didn't help.  Any help will be appreciated.

Hear your microphone or instrument as you play and record (monitoring)
You can hear, or monitor, input from an instrument or microphone in GarageBand while you play and record. When you turn on monitoring for a track, you hear the musical instrument or microphone connected to the track’s input. Monitoring lets you hear yourself play so that you can hear the part you want to record as well as the rest of the project.
You can turn on monitoring for a Real Instrument track or Electric Guitartrack from the track’s header, or in the Track Info pane. Electric Guitar tracks always show their monitoring buttons, and you can show monitoring buttons for Real Instrument tracks using a menu command. You can use monitoring with feedback protection to avoid feedback while you play.
Hide
To turn on monitoring in the track header:
Choose Track > “Show Monitoring for Real Instrument Tracks.”Monitor buttons appear in the headers of Real Instrument tracks. On tracks with monitoring turned on, the button lights yellow.
Click the Monitor button in the header of the track you want to use.
HideTo turn on monitoring in the Track Info pane:
Double-click the header of the Real Instrument or Electric Guitar track you want to turn on monitoring for.The Track Info pane opens.
From the Monitor pop-up menu, choose one of the following:
Choose Off to turn off monitoring. You can hear your instrument only while you record.
Choose On to turn on monitoring and protect against feedback.
Choose On (no feedback protection) to turn on monitoring without feedback protection. If the input level is too high, it may cause feedback (especially if you are using a microphone and listening to your project through your computer speakers).
For an Electric Guitar track, you can view the Monitor pop-up menu by clicking Edit, and then clicking the back side of the amp. The Monitor pop-up menu appears with the input controls below the stage.
You should usually turn off monitoring when you are not playing or singing. When monitoring is turned on, your computer can pick up output from your speakers or monitors, causing unwanted feedback. Using headphones rather than speakers to listen to your projects can help eliminate feedback.
If you select your computer’s built-in microphone as the audio input, in the Audio/MIDI pane of GarageBand preferences, monitoring is turned off for all Electric Guitar tracks to avoid unwanted noise.

  • M Audio Mobile Pre USB Problems!?

    Hi again,
Short term until the upgrade is decided upon any help with the problems we're having with our M Audio mobile pre usb would be greatly appreciated.
First off if the charger is plugged into the ibook whilst the sound card is plugged into USB and a guitar is connected you get electric shocks from the guitar strings?!?! happens with a number of guitars! Stops happening if you unplug the charger and run off the battery!
Secondly.....and this doesn't happen all the time but probably about half the time there's lots of interference when recording.
Software we're using is garageband 2.
Part of me thinks there must be something really wrong as surely this isn't right even with a relatively cheap external box.
    thanks all
    Noel

    Noel,
I think that's not normal at all.
My first move (if it's new) is: run to the shop and swap it! And test the new one!
If not, report it to the M-Audio assistence team.
Also, I'm assuming you have earth on your plugs.
Yeah, you gotta be 'right, cheap doesn't mean electric shocks, EVER!
    ...not even your toster. :o)
    Hope you solve it quick.
    Peace mate,
    Jorge

  • M-Audio Mobile Pre USB audio interface compatibility w/ FCP

I am trying to do voiceovers in FCP with my mic connected to the XLR input on a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB audio interface.
The first time I did this, even though I got a signal in System Preferences audio input, I would get no signal in the Voiceover Tool window in FCP. I know I chose the correct source, input and rate for the device. I rebooted and it worked. Then on another day a reboot would not make it work. Now I can’t make it work again. Upon opening FCP with the USB interface connected OSX crashed. This almost never happens ether with the system in general or since I installed FCP 5.1. This has happened twice. I also started this whole process by updating to the newest driver for the M-Audio device. I liked the sound I got when it worked so any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks for that link...that's what I saw months ago, and I realize I got a few of the specifics mixed up. UNFORTUNATELY, I tried those tips and I still have the exact same problem. I also went to M-Audio and downloaded the most recent driver. I did a variety of starts and re-starts where the unit was connected or not upon start up...whether phantom power was on or off at start up, etc etc. And by start up I mean both starting GB only, and/or starting up my Mac. I tested using the interface through both of the USB ports. All yield the same result. The only thing I didn't test yet is changing the USB cable itself.
Any more thoughts? You think the interface is bad?

  • M-Audio Mobile Pre USB technical issue

When recording through the M-Audio Mobile Pre USB interface, I get random "pops" added to my tracks. This happens no matter if I'm using mics, going in through the 1/4" jack, or going in through the stereo line-in. I believe an earlier thread (months ago, for which I searched unsuccessfully), suggested setting the appropriate audio in/out preferences and re-launching GB as a possible solution. I've tried this, and also restarting my computer after resetting prefs, but it doesn't solve the problem.
This didn't always happen, and I use my equipment carefully.
Any other ideas? I'm assuming it's a problem with the interface, not GB.

  • No Playback sound, M-Audio Mobile Pre usb

Hi, I have searched and read alot of topics here, but I can't see any related to my Audiotion Issue.
I can record in Audition and I see the peak of my recording etc.
But when I hit play button to hear what I have recorded, No sound at all.
I use winxp, M-Audio Mobile pre USB soundcard.
I hear music when I try with media player etc, but not in Audition.
    Any ideas?

I couldn’t record with Audition 3.0.  I recorded using Audacity which came with the turntable. I saved the tracks as WAV. I updated my sound card software and now in  Edit > Audio Hardware Setup I have Creative ASIO as an Audio Driver choice. I use that in Edit and now I can edit the tracks recorded in Audacity. I still can’t record or hear my LPs in Audition. So, I left Multi-Track and Surround Encoder with Audition 3.0 Windows Sound. The turntable is listed as Speakers (USB Audio Codec) 1 & 2. When I change Edit from Creative ASIO to Audition 3.0 Windows Sound the Default Input is Microphone (USB Audio Codec) and the Default Output is Speakers (USB Audio Codec).  Using Audition 3.0 Windows Sound I can’t see or hear the LP music. When I change the Edit setting to Creative ASIO I can hear the music that I have recorded using Audacity. How do I fix it so that I can record in Audition? I have Audition 3.0. Is there an update for Audition?

  • Funny latency with M-Audio Mobile Pre USB

    Hi,
I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB interface with Garageband, and I'm 99% certain that GB is doing something funny with latency. I'll record a clip, finish recording, and it'll do some funny compensation where it assumes that there is latency there where there is none, so it shifts the clip left by a few milliseconds (enough to sound sloppy). In every case where I record from the Mobile Pre USB, I find that if I shift the clip right by a few ticks, it'll sound like it did when I was recording it. Is this a known issue, and, if so, is there any way to calibrate it? Otherwise I'm left manually adjusting clips.
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
As you can see I believe I am having a similar problem except I am using a Fastrack Pro. Hopefully you will get a response that may also help me.

    Hi there,
I am new to Mac so bear with me. I have just purchased a Macbook Pro with Logic Express 9. I also purchased an M-Audio Fast Track Pro to connect my instruments. But I have a problem. I can't seem to record anything through the M-audio interface. I ran a test and can record using the internal microphone (which I then turned off).
I have loaded the drivers and the O/S sees it. I check in Logic Express 9 and it sees the interface. In the Mac system preferences it sees the M-Audio USB line input but when you highlight the line it says "the selected device has no input controls". In the Logic Express preferences the Logic software sees the M-Audio device.
Would appreciate any suggestions as to why this is happening. Suspect I am just missing a setting or two.

  • [SOLVED] Kernel 2.6.38-ck-core2+M-Audio Mobile Pre USB–Sound crackling

    Hello all,
I've been finally able to set up a working configuration for making music with my computer. I have installed Jack, with PulseAudio as a Jack client to use Skype, and configured ALSA 1.0.24. I have specified working values in my /etc/security/limits.conf in order to get rt priority.
At first I let Arch using the latest version of kernel 2.6.37. With that sound system config and kernel 2.6.37, sound is just perfect for my needs.
Then I wanted to try out kernel 2.6.38-ck-core2, just to see if there were any differences. I installed it and restarted my computer into the 2.38 kernel.
Now the trouble begins: when I use Arch with kernel 2.6.38, I can hear some distorsions, more like crackling, in audio files (MP3, FLAC, even sound from Flash...). The crackling is not always audible, I mean that it's random, but it plays during like 5 seconds, then disappears, and then plays again... And this happens in any audio stream.
At first I thought that maybe Jack was having some issues. So I deactivated it, which implied I also deactivated its client, PulseAudio. And I routed everything directly to ALSA.
But I was still having that distorted, crackling sound...
So... I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced this problem. I'm suspecting the ALSA modules in kernel 2.6.38-ck-core2.
I'll try to test more with kernel-2.6.38-ck and keep you informed if I find somehting.
    Thanks )

    Hey all,
First I'd like to apologize: the problem is solved and was not related either to kernel 2.6.38-ck or ALSA 1.0.24. I spent hours suspecting ALSA while I shouldn't have been so determined.
In fact, it was all about my Jack config and the way I configured it to be "system-wide". I didn't realize it af first, but the latency I set was much too high (frame/period: 512). Moreover, it seems that even when I stopped qjackctl the jackd daemon was still running, due to the "system-wide" mode.
Since I lowered the latency (frame/period: 64), I have not heard any pop or crackling while running Arch with kernel 2.6.38-ck-core2. But I still don't understand why I didn't experience that problem with generic kernel 2.6.37, even with frame/period set at 512...
Anyway, this issue is solved. It was my mistake.

  • I've recoverd my Ipad and now I can't pair it with my old iCloud account. I can see my music in my iPad but can't play it. How can I solve this problem?

How can I pair my iPad with my old iCloud account?
    Thanks!

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
    To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

  • ASIO problems with M-Audio Mobile Pre

Hi, I am using Adobe Audition 3.0 with an M-Audio Mobile Pre interface.
I know this interface supports ASIO. However, it doesnt register as an ASIO when working with Audition. Hence I am getting some serious latency issues when working with Audition.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks

The Mobile Pre works well with Audition when using the ASIO driver from m-audio.com. Unfortunately, I don't think they've released a Vista comaptible ASIO driver, and last time I checked, they didn't intend to. If you're using Windows Vista, you may need to use the ASIO4ALL driver if you want a little better performance then the default DirectSound wrapper provides. You can find this at www.asio4all.com.

  • Cannot record with M-Audio "Mobile Pre"?

Just updated to GB 10.0.3 and OS 10.10.1  Now I cannot record tracks using M-Audio "Mobile Pre" USB pre amp interface as I used to. The Pre works fine with Audacity as in the past. Is there a fix for this in Garage Band by any chance? Thanks for any advice.

Did you install the latest drivers?

  • Please help with m-audio mobile pre driver not connecting with garageband08

hey i just updated my powerbook G4 with leopard and lost my m-audio (mobile pre) driver in system preferences so i downloaded it b/c i don't have my original disc, the downloaded version shows in my system preferences now but won't appear in the garageband preferences audio/midi input, my only choices are built in mono/sterio. any ideas? besides finding the disc? i'd really appreciate any help as my band is trying to record a cd.

Yeah, the Mobile Pre is not going to work on Leopard until M-Audio updates their drivers, unfortunately.
There is one workaround that I've gotten to work, but it probably won't work for most folks. If you have two partitions on your system, one with Leopard and one with Tiger, you can get the mobile pre to work in Leopard. It's a bit odd, but it does work.
First, boot into you Tiger partition that has the Mobile Pre drivers installed and verify that the system sees and can use the Mobile Pre.
Now, boot into Leopard. Your Leopard system should now see the Mobile Pre and you should be able to use it until you have to reboot the Leopard system.
If you have an external HD with Tiger installed, you might also be able to get this to work w/out having to repartition your system. Just install Tiger on the external HD, boot from it, then install the Mobile Pre drivers.
Hope this helps and possibly provides some temporary relief until M-Audio updates their drivers....

I can't connect to the iTunes store with my Apple TV. I can see what movies are on offer but when trying to access my account i am advised "Can't connect to server" (times out).

I have the same problem with my 3rd gen Apple TV. I can preview iTunes movies, stream from my Mac, Airplay from my other devices but I cannot rent a movie on iTunes. Every time I try I get "Can't connect to ITunes" and "Unable to sign in". Had technical support review the problem over the phone and they agreed to send me a new one. Same problem. Interestingly enough my 2nd gen Apple TV works just fine.

My Iphone4 speaker wont sound play any audio and all it says when i try turning it up is " Ringer" But doesent show the bars the turn up or down. Any help? :/

    Hey Hype.Beast.187,
Here are some troubleshooting steps for not being able to hear sound through your iPhone speakers. I'd pay special attention to steps 8, 9, and 10 in your situation:
    Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (choose Settings > General > Bluetooth).
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
