I cannot believe how much I LOVE my MBP. I have been writing commercial software (Windows) since 1996. I have NEVER, in my entire career, been this excited/impressed with a piece of hardware/software.
Thank you Apple - the MBP is seriously one of the coolest tools I have ever owned.

I agree. I haven't been this happy with a new Mac since I got my 450 MHz G4 "sawtooth" back in 1999. I liked the mini but only because it was so inexpensive. My old Titanium was quite disappointing on performance though it did what it was supposed to I guess.

Can I exchange for a new laptop? Since December it has been having hardware issues and it has already needed to get parts changed twice already. My laptop is not working properly again. I feel like I have unfortunately gotten a lemon laptop.

You will have to discuss whether your history warrants a complete replacement with the folks at the Genius Bar.
I do not speak for Apple, but it sounds to me like you have been unlucky, but not unlucky enough (or have spent so much time with your MacBook in the shop) to warrant a complete replacement.
You have not provided any details of what the faults were or what was replaced. If they replaced the motherboard, you already got a new computer -- because everything except the drive and the display is on that board. -
my ipod locked while it was in my bag. i took it out and tried all possible passcodes that i had. my internet was slow to update and restore it so i took it to the Apple Store. My home button was broken and ive been using just the accessibility home button for a couple of months now. i agreed to have it restored for 500php. Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.

[SOLVED] New Install of Gnome 3.2 doesn't feel like loading

Before making this post, I have spent the majority of the day trying to solve this issue. I have switched from nvidia drivers to nouvela (sp?) drivers, incase that was the issue. I have scoured google, arch-wiki, and the forums until my eyes have bled. I have dug through the xsession-errors log to search out any missing components that might be causing this... but to no avail. If anything, trying to run and try Gnome 3.2 has made me feel like a complete idiot, who has obviously learnt nothing after years of using linux. So, I come here hoping that some one can point me to the solution my brain cannot itself come up with.
Here the situation:
I have been running KDE4 for quite some time happily. I have ran Gnome 3 back in its beginning days succesfully as well, but that was an older, now dead, pc. Having seen some neat little things about the new Gnome 3.2, I got an itch to give it a try. So, I go and follow the Gnome article on the excellent arch wiki- installing both gnome and gnome extras, letting it grab everything, change from kdm to gdm, and reboot.
Well, it gives me the old gdm I remember from the early gnome 3 days (wasn't this changed) despite it showing that it is GDM 3.2 via pacman. It shows my user name, lets me put my password, and shows the stripped background. One thing to note is that the cursor remains a clock face, never changing to a pointer.
I log in, choosing GNOME, all that remains is the wallpaper, with the clockface cursor, no pointer. I go take the kids to the bus stop, come back apx. 20 min. later, no change.
Ok, bug crushing time right? So I go through the steps. I make sure that gnome shell is indeed installed. I remove any config files (there weren't any), remove gnome shell, reinstall. No go. I rinse and repeat, but removing & reinstalling different things, such as GDM, and even gnome completely. No go.
Hopping into pekwm, I search. I make copies of the xsession-errors each time, and load them in pekwm after a reboot, looking through with pacman by myside to make sure I have any possible missing files. And finally after failure after failure I give up, and come here.
So, here's my xsession-errors log. Please, if anyone can help, or even offer any kind of suggestion that might spark something in my brain to get me going in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. If this thread needs moved, merged, etc, please do so... I've searched the forums, but now my brain is numb, so yeah...

It is simple really. I just needed to re-install libltdl.
So, for those searching, if you get this similar problem,
pacman -S libltdl
is what solved it for me. -
So I have been restoring my iPhone5 from a backup for about 3 hours now however iTunes still says that it is going to take over 24 hours to complete the restore process and the progress bar hasn't moved much at all. I feel like something has gone wrong somehow and it shouldn't take this long to complete. Is there something I can do to speed up this process or do I just have to try to wait it out? I'm scared to just unplug my phone and try again since it might screw something up.

Preloader problem - feel like an idiot
I feel like a total idiot. I can't seem to get my
preloader to work. Here's my code. What am I doing wrong? The
problem is that myApp.swf loads successfully but the .onEnterFrame
function thinks that loader_mc is 1 frame and 0 bytes long.Again, I much appreciate your help. I had put some trace
statements in trying to find out what getBytesLoaded/Total were and
they were coming back with values I didn't understand, so I kept
thinking it was trying to get the values of the empty_mc I had
instantiated instead of the thing I was trying to load and I kept
scratching my head as to why and tried a lot of different things
and was baffled. At any rate, in the end I think it's a timing
issue if I understand correctly. In other words, I think the
function started executing before it could really grab the correct
information about the .swf that I was trying to load. Is that
right?
Oh well, I'm out of the ditch with that silly problem now and
moving on to my next set of challenges. :-)

HT1338 This morning my mac has started pressing th 'one' key whenever it feels like it. Any ideas?
So I work from home mostly on my mac book pro, which i bought early in 2011. I set and started working exactly as i would every other day.
The mac took no irregular knocks, nothing was spilt on it but it's decided to put 1's in whenever it feels like it. I've deleted a whole bunch just writing this!
I tried to update the software because i figured it might correct a bug. I also googled the problem to see if anyone else had posted something similar but i haven't had any luck.
I don't feel comfortable taking the mac apart and my nearest apple store is a little out of the way so any help on here would be great!
oh and sometimes the 1 doesn't work, but that came with the problem never had an issue before

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
I was looking at a tanning website today and then I logged off and went to eat lunch. When I came back, I got on Facebook and on the side were ads for tanning. What do I do so that this won't happen? I feel like something is wrong. I have heard Macs don't get viruses, but I still have Norton Virus Protection. What is this and how do I make it not do it again!
On another note, my trash can all of the sudden started asking for my password when I move something to it. It is extremely annoying when I want to delete more than one thing. Is there a way to make that not happen too? Thank ya'll!1. Triple-click the line below to select it:

If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different. Back up all data before making any changes.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Consider installing an ad-blocker and/or a selective cookie block such as the "Ghostery" Safari extension. -

Just wondering if anyone shares how I feel. I bought a G5 Imac 2.1 Ghz a little over a month ago, I am doing some video editing etc.....
Now with this new one out so soon, I feel like an idiot buying the other one (20' inch at $1700).... I could really use the extra speed (if it's true that it's twice as fast.)
I wish they would have offered some type of an upgrade offer for people who bought their Imacs just recently..

sure, the new ones might have a few problems, but i can handle that, i would rather that, than this G5 that is going to age FAR quicker than the new Intel ones... and my iMac is only ONE MONTH old... and it is out of date already!!

I am so tired of this. My Mac mini server is acting up again. There were over 80 user accounts that seemed like they should be hidden that appeared in the Server app. I deleted them. Then over 110 groups appeared in the server app appeared. I deleted three of those. Open Directory isn't working. Authentication is acting up. It won't let me connect remotely to the server from other Macs using my main user account on the server. I looked on my user accoount on the server, and whenever I try to give myself permission to administer the server, the Server App just freezes. Please help me. I am so tired of this.
ANY HELP, ANY AT ALL WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Without any more details regarding which accounts you deleted (I don't want to appear harsh as you are asking for help) it's possible you may have shot yourself in the foot?
There are a large number of (UNIX) accounts you should not be deleting that are essential to the proper working order, not only of the server but, more fundamentally, of the OS itself. Ordinarily you won't see these accounts although a situation may sometimes arise where you (or some other mechanism) may have inadvertently and/or unknown to you, selected an option that shows you those hidden accounts in the Server.app GUI.
Apart from the Server.app you'd normally use Terminal or Directory Editor (available in the Directory Utility app stored in /System/Library/CoreServices) to see hidden accounts. I usually use the command line utility 'dscl' to view users (hidden or visible) in OS X. Below is the output of pretty much any OS X (server or otherwise) going back to at least 10.2:

If you've deleted all of the the users and/or groups beginning with underscore then you've truly shot yourself in the foot and unless you really know what you're doing it may be quicker if you simply reinstalled the OS? Possibly even format and install? If you've deleted some of these user/groups then it's likely you will start seeing random and intractable behaviour with either the OS, Server.app or both. In either case it's not surprising you feel like crying.
There are a number of 'golden' rules you should be aware of that are crucial to the proper working order of OS X Server. In no particular order these are:
1. before doing anything else configure DNS services properly
2. try and understand the UNIX underpinnings of OS X
3. avoid using .local (mDNS) as the basis for your internal/private domain
4. unless you really know what you're doing try not to fiddle
5. DNS
6. backup as often as possible
7. DNS
8. have as many backups as you can afford
You'll notice DNS is mentioned a number of times because it really is very important. The above is not definitive in any way.

If out of warranty, then there is nothing you can do and you'll have to pay. -
My weather app doesn't show the feels like temp or wind, etc. How can I fix this? I am running iOS 8.1.2.
is that really what it is? this is the native iphone weather app. the funny part is that when i use the actual weather channel app, it does provide it.
is this an api issue with the weather channel and the iphone then? i guess there's no fix?

Am I the only person that feels like the salesman lied to me, wrote up contract wrong, etc?
I had purchased two Iphone 4's without contract and enjoyed not having the bill and extra fees every month. Through the prepaid carrier, my son and I didn't even know we could use a laptop or anything with our phones. Luck would have it, the only thing I had left through Verizon was my USB device that I put on my computer and after 3 years, it broke. I went to Verizon to purchase a new one, and pay cash for it to not be under contract, the first salesman assured me it was compatible like the other but after four days I had to take it back for lack of connection. 79.00 was what I paid, when returned, of course I got stuck paying the restocking fee of 35.00 and a new sales person named Cofe (at Jonesboro location) comes to assist me. He talked me into the wifi jetback for 20 or so with the NEW TWO YEAR CONTRACT as he understood I would be needing for portable devices. Had to pay full price for it and wait for my 50 bucks on the rebate card. Against my better judgement, we got new phones, promised new free Lifeproof cases, etc. I told him my funds were tight and I only wanted a plan of about 160 or 180 total for all. Paid the small amount he said was due, then get a bill for 443 a couple days later. We kept going over the data on our phones, not knowing that he in fact set us up to pay 220 a month for 10 gb data, use of jetpack and two smart phones. Paying over for what we had on the mifi we didn't know exitsted caused us to have 30 too much on device and usually 30 overcharge data. Fianlly look at bill wondering why I couldn't get it paid up and 6 calls to customer service, digging through receipts, 10 hours of phone bill hunting, and numerous hours on the phone brought to my attention that he had set me up on almost the most expensive plan, charged us 99 each for cases, 99 for two new contracts and swiped a gift card for 400 to my account without any knowledge. Also, this was a new plan since not under contract, and HE TOOK OUR PHONES that I could've sold for a small chunk and there is not a trace of where they went? He made himself a sale that day!! They have removed some of the charges since I took back the FREE cases, etc., but this has been a horrible experience. I begged the people to please let me out of my contract because now I am unemployed and sure cant afford this and I feel like he did some underhanded tactics selling and not starting the plan off right. He didn't have to sell me the jetpack, we can run laptop of phones, and I guess if I were only gonna get 99 bucks for a three month old phone, I wouldve taken it elsewhere. It's amazing that of all documents scanned in My Verizon, it does not really show a trade in, which he didn't explain anyway, nor does it show what or the actual value. I get horrible service in my area and it drags on the web.not taking long to use the data. In the last week, my phone was cut off so I had to go to the prepaid place and port over. Paid enough to keep my son's phone and laptop and got told if I dont have remaining balance in a few days, they won't port my number back to Verizon, service interrupt on all and then the process server will get to bang on my door. I have never been so disgusted with service and some of the people in that building by their actions. One tried but of course he took up for his dude Cofe.....I don't know what to do now, try to pay it or tell them take the phones and FIND MY OLD ONES then go back prepay. Read this customer service specialist, because I am pretty sure DECEIT, RUNNING GIFT CARDS, AND WRONGFULLY SETTING UP NEW CONTRACT is grounds for an official claim. How did y'all like that bid long confusing mess of a story? :/

I would like my kids to have separate accounts within my iTunes umbrella acct to manage their gift cards and purchases. Is there a way to do this?
You can set up accounts for them, but they will be completely separate. There is no "umbrella" account or global management where you can view and control multiple accounts. You'll have to log into each iTunes Store account separately to redeem gift cards, view purchases, etc. To set up a new iTunes Store account for each child, each will need a separate email address.

how can someone use a stolen iphone? does erasing the phone (which I feel like I should do) make it easier for the thief to use the iphone? If I don't erase it, it doesn't seem like anyone should be able to use the phone because of my password. Also, is it possible to retrieve anything that has been sent to the phone (i.e. text messages) since it was stolen through icloud? The "find my iphone" app says the device is offline but it rings when I call my number -- any idea how that would be the case? Thanks!!
You have a password, so good move on your part. Whether you erase it or the thief does, they still get to use the iPhone as theirs. Which is more important (pick one), protecting your data or punishing the thief?
Ringing occurs at the carrier. Chances are you're going to voicemail after only two or three rings. If you have an iCloud backup also a good move. Re-read my question in the first paragraph.
