I filled out my info for my free copy of mountain lion almost 24 hours ago and still have not received conformation email. Whats up?
Has this happened to anyone else too?
Woke up this morning hoping to have the code, but nope... still hasn't come. Just like you, I submitted my original request 25 hours ago now, and have yet to hear ANYTHING from Apple.
I'm disappointed that the only answer I get is an AppleCare representative telling me to read the terms and conditions of requesting and then reading it and saying that it says processing will take up to 24 hours.
I expected better execution of this up-to-date program from Apple. I'm guessing it has to do with the botched codes going out that are showing up as already used.
Let's hope it will be today!

I bought a Macbook at Bestbuy 3 days ago. Do I still get the Up-To-Date OS X Mountain Lion for free?
yes.http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
It shows up as $19.99 on the app store.
Really? That's strange since Apple hasn't announced a release date and it's not actually available for download in the app store. -

On the webpage it says you must prove your purchase with a copy of your receipt but it never gave me the option to attach it to the request so I am thinking they are unable to verify my MacBook was purchased after 6/11. Also, when I went to re-request my free copy of ML it said my Serial Number was already redeemed. Should I contact support or just wait it out?
I think it is all messed up. Many of us are in the same boat. I'm patiently waiting to hear something from Apple.

I thought that bying Mac OS X Mountain Lion was enough for all my 3 computers ! It runs for 2 of them, but I can't download it anymore for my last computer : does it mean that it's ok for 2 computers only ? Do I have to by it again for my last computer ? I didn't find any download on my Apple Store account...! Thanck you for your answer.

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
Verify that the computer can run Mountain Lion. If not, then you would only be able to upgrade to Lion assuming it meets those requirements:
Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply. -
Anyone also knows why this update is so ridiculously weird? Snap your bill, send us picture - looks so in contrary to Apple's core principle of simplicity! I'm very disappointed.
My guess would be to open the AppStore, then in the QuickLinks panel on the right of the first screen you should be able to choose Redeem to redeem a code.

How long does it take for Apple to send the content code for a free upgrade to Mountain Lion?
Has anyone managed to successfully receive the content code in their email for a free ugprade to Mountain Lion?
I bought my MBP on 14 July so I qualified for the free upgrade. Went to the website and filled in the form along with my serial number about 2 nights ago. Still haven't received my content code yet. How long does it take? Should I be speaking to someone already? Who?
Thanks. We are being advised it can take up to 72 hours !

How has Apple honoured buyers of other releases of OS X immediately before a new version was announced?

I recently (4 days ago) bought a Mac mini server with 10.7 lion; will I qualify for a free upgrade to Mountain Lion Server?
Mtn Lion not due out until the Summer, so no, you will not get a free upgrade. -
I recently purchased a copy of Lion, will I be eligible for a free upgrade of Mountain Lion?
no, sorry.
However, Lion has some great features in and of itself!
you will have to purchase it for 20 dollars in the app store (USA price) to upgrade to ML, the redemption codes that you may be reacting to are for people who recently purchased a computer and were told that they would be able to receive a free download of ML when it is released to make sure their computers are up to date.
This allows apple to release the hardware before the latest software, but still offer the latest software for free, because they're cool like that .
I hope this helps -
Still haven't received code in email for free copy of Mountain Lion?

How do I get my free copy of Mountain Lion?
I'm a very excited Apple customer because I received my MacBook Pro (Retina Display) today! Now that I have it, I would like to download my free copy of Mountain Lion! The only issue is, when I went to the website to enter in the purchase date, etc., I cannot proceed. I bought it online through the Apple Education Store, so I'm wondering (and this may be a simple question), but would that be considered an Apple Reseller (since I bought it through my school) or would the purchase be considered to be through the Apple Online Store? Thanks for helping me with this seemingly simple problem!
Congratulations on a sweet machine! I will eventually upgrade to Mountain Lion, but not until 2 or 3 months have passed to shake out the glitches, etc. that are invariably in a new product with this much complexity.
As to your question, I scanned this "community" yesterday and recall coming upon another Retina owner who was bemoaning the fact that he was still waiting for his email from Apple that would allow him to download his free upgrade to Mt. Lion.
Now, I have not done actual research into your situation, but thought I would pass along my findings of yesterday. Try searching in the forum for related postings. Good luck, and have fun with that Retina display!! -
How do I redeem my free copy of Mountain Lion?
I purchased a Retina Display MacBook Pro on Monday. Mountain Lion came out today, and I was told I would receive a free copy. I went to the Up-To-Date website, and submitted my information as well as my serial number at around 9 this morning.
Then... crickets.
So... what am I waiting for? How do I redeem my free copy of Mountain Lion? Do I need to purchase it and get reimbursed for the charge?
When I enter my serial number into the "check your service and support coverage" page on Apple Support, (https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do) it knows exactly what kind of Mac I have and when it was purchased... how come the Up-To-Date program can't figure that out and give me a redemption code immediately? I'm excited to upgrade to Mountain Lion... but I'm disappointed by having to wait.mende1 wrote:
I don't think it's false. Apple received a lot of requests and you will have to wait to have your redeem code. Nothing more, or buy it
Again... I'm not paying for something I was promised for free. That's ridiculous. And the marketing that was released was very clear that purchasers of new MacBooks would receive an upgrade to Mountain Lion "as soon as it's available."
It's available. Apple is unnecessarily waiting to give me what they promised. "False advertising" may seem like a really negative term, but it's accurate. I was promised something and it wasn't delivered. -
I have applied for the free up-to-date program for the mountain lion os x upgrade. I received a tracking number too. How do I use this number to find out the status of my request? I have not received any email since the past 24 hours of my applicaiton.
It's hard to give accurate advise without knowing exactly which iMac model you have?
However, beware that your iMac must meet both Processor and RAM requirements.
OS X Lion - Technical Specifications
General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Also note that while 2GB of RAM is the minimum requirment, you will be much happier with 4 GB or more.
RAM is a user upgrade, see > iMac: How to remove or install memory
Plus some great third party RAM suppliers are OWC (macsales) and Crucial
