Cant log in my macbook what do I do?

Which version of OS X are you running? If Lion or Mountain Lion, simply startup while holding down the Command and R keys. This will take you to your Recovery partition. Under the Utilities menu, select Terminal and type in:
    resetpassword
A small app will open allowing you to select the user for whom you want to change the password. Enter the new password and reboot.

Well, you can try easing the shift key up with something thin but flexible (credit card sort of thing) but if the contacts below are stuck you may need to get it seen to by an authorised repairer.
If you can borrow a keyboard (a PC one will probably work as long as the password is alpha-numeric with no special characters) you can at least get in to backup your HD before going for repair.

  • Mag Safe power cord sparks when connected or disconnected--whereupon the MacBook Pro 13'' dumps date and time, and all passwords, plus any/all unsaved information.

I purchased my MacBook Pro 13" from the Apple Store in Tucson, AZ, in mid-January. Since then, every time the Mag-Safe cord is jostled, not even disconnected, sparks fly from the power terminal on the computer, the computer shuts down, and dumps its passwords, as well as the date and time.
Any work in progress is also lost.
I work overseas, and Apple's advice was to give them my credit card number, await shipment of a new power supply and cord, and then, when I return the old power supply and cord, i'd receive a credit. That won't work, as packages from the US to my location take weeks if they arrive at all. There is no Apple Store within a reasonable distance. Or, Apple suggests, when I'm home on leave in mid-June, I should bring the computer to the Apple Store for repair--I have only days in which to do that, but I suppose I'll need to try. My concern is that I'll need to return overseas without my computer and won't be able to retrieve it for months, until my next leave.
This issue shows up elsewhere online. Is there a short in the power terminal in the computer, or on the Mag-Safe power cord, or within the computer itself? It's a known issue, thus I wonder why it hasn't been fixed.

  • I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't remember it.  Is there anyway to gain access to my mac without reinstalling or deleting everything that's on it?  I don't have the disk that came with it either.

Hi.  I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't recall what it is.  My hope is that I can somehow gain access without deleting everything currently on it.  I do not have the MAC disk that it came with.  Is there something I can do myself?  Should I take it to the MAC store?  Thanks in advance for your help.

It helps with this kind of question to state which system version you are using on the computer as the answer will vary.

  • I currently use iCloud on a MacBook Pro. I opened my iBook G4 that I haven't used in several years and am unable to access my MobileMe account with many stored emails that I would like to transfer to the MacBook Pro. I have tried all of the passwords.

I currently use iCloud on a MacBook Pro. I opened my iBook G4 that hasn't been used in years. I have many email messages that i would like to transfer to the MacBook Pro, but every password I use to access MobileMe is not accepted. Any suggestions on retrieving or transferring the emails?

MobileMe was discontinued around 2 years ago.  Anything on the MMe servers are long gone. The MMe passwords are uselsess because MMe is no more.
Unless you created an iCloud account back before MMe was taken off line you won't be able to recover any emails.

  • Does the macbook pro have a password protect feature?

i'm debating whether or not I need the Kensington ComboSaver Notebook Lock for college. if the macbook pro has a password-protect feature... maybe i don't need the lock

How would they know there was a password?  Are you hoping to be able to say, "Excuse me, sir, but please don't steal my laptop, it's password protected."  A thief wouldn't care, even if they slowed down to listen... they'd just erase your hard drive and sell the machine.  (Or maybe not even erase the hard drive.)
Password protection is possible on many levels, some more secure than others, but none will discourage theft.  Password protection's role is to protect against things ranging from casual snooping to determined spying, and the method used determines what can be protected against.  For true data security, you must use encryption.
However, if you're looking to keep your laptop from getting stolen, you need to simply keep it close, or locked up when not adequately close.  A security cable would be a good investment for leaving a computer unattended in a dorm room or apartment.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8)

How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8) since November until now.  Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.

  • HT1420 I have the new version of the macbook pro and I cannot find authorize this computer anywhere on itunes. I have read the directions multiple times and still cannot find it. Please help!

I have the newer version of the macbook pro and I have read the directions on how to authorize your computer to let you download previous song purchases from icloud onto your laptop, but I cannot find where it says "authorize this computer" at all. I have looked for it everywhere and still cannot find it. Please help!

    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

No.  10.7 never came one a disk.  Read this:
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion
If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.

  • Does the macbook pro has an antivirus?

does the macbook pro has an antivirus

While there may not currently be any Viruses for Macs, the original poster may actually be asking, "Is there any Malware that affects Macs?"
The answer to that question is YES.
The best defense against Mac Malware is to add a new Admin account (to be used only for Administration) and use it to demote your "daily use" account to a regular User account. Then if software tries to install itself, it generate a dialog box "please enter your Admin username and password". This will tip off an alert user that something unexpected is happening.
The other important concept is that the user must remain Vigilant, and do not download stuff from untrusted web sites.
