I have audio files (mp3 format) that play in media player, I have synced them to my iPod and they appear in the Music directory on it but it will not play them

It just returns to submenu from which I selected them. Have tried removing the files from my library and reloading them and resynching, but the problem remains.
Any ideas?

Do these same tracks play okay in iTunes?  What file format are they in?  If they are mp3s, try running them through MP3Validator to look for any missing or corrupt metadata/tags.
