Semi-experienced user - Western New York.
System was operating nominally until I opened it from 'sleep' mode after ~1 hour of inactivity.
No idea what's going on. I had just installed a Flash Player update [not an atypical occurrence] at ~6:00 PM this evening, but used the system without incident after that. Re-Start attempt does not appear to succeed, the circular pre-OS icon never clears and displays the authorization screen.
Anyone with an idea how to help would be greatly appreciated. We have so much personal and business data on this machine!!!

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly to restart.
The fact that you're worried about the data implies that you have no backups, or that you don't have confidence in your backups. Your first priority must be to back up all the data you intend to keep. Ask if you need guidance.

While trying to instal Mountain Lion OS on my macbook pro, I got the error message that my HD was damaged and it reverted to my Lion OS. Why does this happen? I bought the OS online through the app store.
The Mountain Lion installer looks at your internal drive to make certain that it's error-free before continuing installation. You should have an application named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder now so you shouldn't have to download it again. Do this...
Boot to your Lion recovery partition by holding down both the Command and the R keys while booting. Open Disk Utility from the Recovery partition and select your hard drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it) and click on Verify Disk. If you come up with any errors, click on Repair Disk. At the end of the cycle you will get a message that the disk was successfully repaired or a message that the hard drive could not be repaired.
If you're able to repair the disk, just reboot as normal and open the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" and the installation will proceed. If Disk Utility was unable to repair the disk, you need to get to your local Apple Store as soon as possible so that they can see if the disk is salvageable or beyond repair.

HI there all, have got a 2 year old macbook pro that just recently wont start up. Even if I know the battery is fully charged. What I have to do is remove the battery, wait a minute or so, insert back in and it will fire up. Any ideas?

I have restored my hard drive three times and already took my Macbook Pro to a check up where it got supposedly repaired... What should I do? I don't download anything odd and I haven't the slightest idea of what's going on... Help would be appreciated.
But really, I freak out everytime it stops turning on and today it shut down on its own, those error reports aren't getting me any help either and I am a clueless sixteen year old girl that had less issues with her 2007 Windows... Or maybe I'm just freaking out and get too scared because this thing cost me and my parents quite a lot.

Take the computer right back to the repair shop for them to fix it like they should have done in the first place. You should have gotten a case number. You should not be charged for the repair work under the same case number. Were the original repairs done under warranty? Do you have Apple Care? If yes to the above, call Apple Care and explain the situation to them. Or Call Apple Customer Relations (1-800) 275-2273. Wait for a human to come on the line and ask politely and firmly that you want to be transferred over to the Customer Relations department. -
My 3 year old macbook pro shuts off when it is trying to turn on
when i turn on my macbook, it makes the startup sound, the logo comes. but then a loading bar appers and it starts loading, when it's about 1/5 of the way the loading bar dissapears and it shuts down about 5 seconds after. the software it's using is mavericks (10.9.1)

boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it get to the login screen now? -
I recently migrated from MacBook Pro to MacBook Pro retina. Now my macbook will not print to my LaserJet3200 printer. I downloaded the drivers but still only prints a line of gibberish per page, and endless pages, when i send printer a print job. i just tried to install the 11.4 update (or whichever one is the most recent update as of 1/26/2014) and when it failed i tried to install manually and now whenever i try to use it, i get the following error: "The application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Right after i click ok i then get this error: "Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)." I tried to uninstall Itunes and then reinstall the 11.03 version but that didnt work either. I want to know if i copy all of the music in my itunes folder to an external without consolidating can i still transfer all my itunes music from my current windows xp pc to a brand new one and have my current itunes library in my new pc? Basically i just want to know 3 things: What exactly does consolidating the itunes library do? Can i copy, paste, and transfer my itunes library to an external and from there to a new pc? Will i be able to transfer my itunes library without consolidating the files?
I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed. It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4). i tried transferring my iphoto library from my old macbook onto my new macbook pro (via external hard drive), but when i open the new iphoto, it seems to have transferred ALL images ever used on my old macbook. so i tried to just delete all those images so i could try a different approach to transferring, but the new iphoto won't let me do anything and every time i try to delete anything it crashes (since the image amount is so high). please help!!

Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else. -
I have a problem with Imovie. Just brought an macbook 15 retina , iLife install and Imovie was working. I than did a data migration from my old macbook pro and now it crashes on start up. I tried to re-install from app store but no option to re-install, just installed and it greyed out.
Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...

When trying to Airplay from my Macbook Pro Retina, to AppleTv3 it plays for only a few minutes, and then jumps back to the Mac. It seems to do this no matter what I play, music, movies or pictures. I just bought a new router. This could affect it.
I have been playing whole movies before from VLC without problems.

Do you mean Bluetooth?
If you are trying to activate your iPhone you need to use iTunes.
There's no need to "pair" an iPhone with a Mac. Syncing, restoring, backing up, apps/ music / photos etc., is all done with iTunes. -

Any help?First than all, check your video input (TV Video), check in all possible channels, and make sure the HDMI is plugged in correctly. If you did plug it in correctly, and checked all possible channels of Video Input, and it doesn't appear, you should try rebooting your MacBook Pro (with the HDMI disconnected), after it's back on, try plugging it in back again. If the problem persists, I recommend you to go to a Certified Apple Store, and have them check it.
