I lost all my bookmarks, at my clinic, in the process of updating to 3.6. What to do?

''Duplicate post, continue here - [/questions/770615]''
I am not sure exactly what happened. Logged onto my computer and was greeted by a menu prompting me to download Firefox, as an alternative to Internet Explorer. I had always used Firefox before this event ... I am not sure which version ... and had accu, ulated a number of vital bookmarks. I was next informed of a recommendation to upgrade to the latest version (3.6), and naively did so without saving existing bookmarks. The download was successful, but ALL existing bookmarks were lost. Solutions made available at the HELP section do not apply.

Is it the [[lost bookmarks]] article that you are referring to in the help section?
If it is that article, why do you believe the solutions there do not apply?

  • I upgraded to iOS 5 and lost ALL of my apps even though during the process they were backed up to my Itunes. Can I get them back?

I upgraded to iOS 5 and lost ALL of my apps even though they were backed up to Itunes during the process.  Whenever I plug my ipad into my computer the apps that appear in Itunes are from my ipod touch.  How can I get my apps back without purchasing them again?

On your iPad and iPod touch tap Settings > Store
Make sure Music is switched On under Automatic Downloads.
Now restart your iPad and your iPod touch.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
You can re download iTunes purchases for free if necessary >  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • I just upgraded my Norton Internet Security and I've lost ALL my bookmarks and add-ons. The add-ons aren't a big deal, but can I get my bookmarks back?

After rebooting my PC to finish Norton's installation, I opened Firefox and all of my bookmarks and add-ons were gone. My persona was also missing, too. Is there any way to remedy this without having to go through and re-bookmark every page?
I also found an article entitled, "Bookmarks and toolbar buttons not working after upgrading," to which I was redirected after clicking on the link "Configuring Norton 360" from the article "Lost Bookmarks." However, it says that "This article is no longer maintained, so its content might be out of date."

Thanks, but I checked iCloud and it has none of them.
If it backed up to my laptop, that died and I just got the new computer. The one that's crashed won't even boot, so there's no way to even tell if it was syncing the contacts along with all the phone photos. Literally happened at the same time - it was because I had the new computer that I was finally able to pull the photos off the phone and make room for the upgrade. It had refused to upgrade for lack of space for some time.
I had thought it was set to sync to iCloud but it vanished from BOTH my phone and the cloud. That's why I'm so angry about it.

When I bring up my Mozillafirefox, all I get is a window with a blank white screen, (and the firefox logo). (After using Firefox very happily for over a year, I had to 'reinstall' Firefox 3.66 about a month and a half ago, (and lost all my bookmarks as a result therein), and hope I can get my firefox back this time without having to reinstall. Mozilla Firefox is still listed as one of my active programs). HELP! Is there a way to get my firefox back without reinstalling? Many thanks!

  • Lost all my bookmarks. According to Mozilla Health Check I got 58 (thought it was more). How to I get them back? Tried to follow your notes but got nowhere.

I have iMac upgraded to Snow Leopard. 30/7/13 obliged to reboot my computer and when it restarted found I was upgrading to Firefox version 22. Lost all my bookmarks. Understand bookmarks are in profiles/places.sqlite. Upgraded to version 23 on 7th Aug. and repeated attempts to restore bookmarks have failed.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

If you are using the Time Machine then you can try to restore an older copy of places.sqlite

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • I updated to the newest firfox but i lost all my bookmarks. How can I retrieve them?

I updated to newest firefox but i lost all my bookmarks. Or at least I dont know where to retrieve them from. I

This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I lost all my bookmarks, after switching to 3.5 silent how can i get them back?

i lost all my bookmarks, after switching to 3.5 silent how can i get them back?

    Clarification:
I believe now you potentially lose all extensions, plug-ins when you use the new reset function, but you will let me know.
If that is the case, your find corrupt file method maybe better. However, I reviewed the two help articles and there appear to be more files than just the delete search.json file and a possible search.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder. I am confused. Then I have to find the folders. I think help articles mentioned how to find the profile containing the files, but not sure.

  • I had to do a system restore and lost all my bookmarks. How do I get them back?

I did not know that if I did a system restore that I would loose all my bookmarks.

It is possible that the system restore restored an older copy of the profiles.ini file that doesn't have your current Firefox profile folder.

You can check if there are more profile folders and if that is the case then you can either recover data from that profile or use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and click the "Choose Folder" button and browse to that lost profile folder to re-register this lost profile. Firefox will recognize that profile and you should have all data back.

  • I lost all my bookmarks on my iPhone running IOS 6

This morning, I lost all my Bookmarks on my iPhone 5 running IOS 6. Bookmark folders are still there, but they are empty

The places.sqlite file stores the bookmarks and the history, so if you replace the current version with another copy then you lose all current bookmarks and history.
I don't know why you did restore that copy.
You can restore the bookmarks via one of the backups in the bookmarkbackups folder, but that will replace all the current bookmarks as well.
If you need to keep some then remove the others and export the bookmarks to an HTML file.
Then you can import this HTML file to merge those bookmarks.

  • I've lost all my bookmarks when I updated to FF7. This is a disaster! ! ! ! When will I be able to use my Yahoo bookmarks again? ? ?

There are no more detail. I just lost all my bookmarks. I want them back ! ! ! !

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

I liked what I had & several times a day it would say there are updates but I closed those popups or messages. Im now using the latest version just so I can have some use while I try to sort this out & get help.

I'm adding that I tried system restore several times .... & my last full backup.... but each time something was corrupted or would not launch or there was no '''.exe '''file in the program folder...Ive never seen this before, & the Mozilla backup I had was useless... it was unable to launch either

Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) is an old version of Linux from 2009. You're gonna need to upgrade to a newer operating system to use a more recent version of Firefox.
My advice is to consult with the Ubuntu support forums to find out if your PC can support the latest version of Ubuntu, or if you should switch to a different "flavor" of Linux.

You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.
