I'm missing a font that I shouldn't be missing: Avenir Next.

On Apple's list of fonts that should be included on OS X, it lists Avenir Next. However, when I look through my font book, I can't find it at all.

Not sure what list you're looking at, but no version of Avenir is included with Lion. Those weren't part of OS X until Mountain Lion.

  • Font that showed in ID CS3 missing in ID and AI CS5

I just opened a file I probably last worked on in ID CS 3. It uses a little-used common domain (maybe?) font called Classic Typewriter.
The file opens and displays fine in CS 3; but, the Regular weight is missing in CS 5. ClassicTypewriter is displayed as the font name, but Regular is surrounded by brackets in the style; i.e., [Regular] . I believe that means ID cannot find the font.
What gives? Why is it okay in CS 3 but not CS 5?
Just checked, same is true for AI, as well. I further checked the font with Apple's Font Book Validation. There is a message about an error with "name" usability. So, I guess my only question now is why Adobe changed things so that a font that worked in CS3 no longer works in CS5 whether or not the font is totally okay. (The font also seems to work fine in TextEdit.)

Yes! That worked for me, too! Sure was hard downloading the font, though. It unstuffed with Stuffit Expander 8, but not Stuffit Expander 11. Go figure!
Thank you! (But, I sure do like the kerning in the Elsner + Flake headline version, at least for headlines. It's really nice! (Funny thing about the E+F version, though...I bought two weights in the same font family, but they do not appear grouped as a family; each font is displayed as distinct font families in the ID font menu. But, I guess that is a bit off topic.))
    Thank you!

  • Turn off this nag screen?? "Some text layers contain fonts that are missing"

Hi all, I have recently been handed a web project from a mac user and everytime I open one of the pages I get the following message. "Some text layers contain fonts that are missing...etc" I have the same exact fonts but in the new open type format. Anyways apparently photoshop can't tell that. I would like to TURN OFF this nag screen. I am not even editing the text layer with the font.
Is there anyway to turn off this nag screen? I turned off glyph protection in the prefrences and restarted photoshop to no avail.

The missing fonts will be listed in grayed out color in the separate last section at the bottom of the font menu accessible from the text tool's property or the character panel
The layers with missing fonts will have the warning sign on the layer's icon in the layer's panel however the missing font/s will be displayed with the correct font. When you try to edit the text on such layer, Photoshop will show a message with the missing font/s and will say that it will be converted if you edit it. If you choose OK, and you have different fonts on the same layer, watch which fonts will change appearance.

  • Missing Fonts That Are Not Missing

Why does FrameMaker 11 claim that it cannot open a file due to missing fonts when in fact no fonts are missing? I have repaired this problem with numerous files, replacing the missing fonts, but Frame is proving recalcitrant with one file in particular.

For one thing, Calibri does not come in a Heavy font version, the only available heavier weight is a Bold (see: https://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/family.aspx?FID=287).
To find the offending Calibri Heavy use the Find > Character Format..., then set everything to AsIs (Shift-F8) in the Format panel. Then select only Heavy for the Weight (it's important that you don't have a Font Family named, as FM will restrict your choices for the Weight to only what is available for the installed font). This should find all instances of Calibri Heavy with whatever it is substituted with.
To make the substitutions permanent (if you can't get your substitutions to work through the Fonts pod), turn off the "Remember Missing Font Names" preference setting and then save all of your files. You can then reset this Preference back. It is best to close the FM session when changing the Preference to ensure this setting is properly enabled when opening the files for the permanent substitutions.
Opening all of the files in a book (all in one go using the Shift-key shortcut) first is only a workaround to ensure that all problems, such as the missing fonts, are addressed and FM then doesn't have to ask about what it should do about the errors in the files. Fixing the problems mitigates this step.
The SetPrint utility automatically sets the AdobePDF as the default printer instance for the FM session only and then resets it back to whatever you have as your system default printer when you close FM. This helps prevent things such as printer fonts from accidentally being used and has the correct device for creating PDFs already enabled. It's quite useful for us lazy types...

  • How do you add/use typekit fonts that are not edge web fonts?

I am just trying out the new Muse CC 2014.1 (August) release and was keen to try the new font facilities.  As far as I can see that while I can now add other fonts for which I have downloaded web font files via the Self Hosted Web Fonts function, Typekit fonts that are not "Adobe Edge Web Fonts" are effectively unavailable?  Have I missed something.
As an example I want to use the Proxima Nova web font family.  I have selected it on the type kit site, set them up to Sync via my Creative Cloud account.  So for example if I select a font in Photoshop CC or Illustrator, the Proxima Nova fonts appear. Even ok in Word for Mac.  They do not appear in Muse.
To add them as self hosted web fonts, I would need to physically download the relevant fonts files and install them on my desktop using the OS-X font tool.  However as they are being sync'd via Creative Cloud this shouldn't be necessary should it?  Also I don't see an option for doing so on the typekit site.
Any help or guidance would be very welcome.
PS:  I seem to have a separate issue with the Creative Cloud app, which is not listing fonts under the Assets tab.  But I don't think that is related as they are working fine for Photoshop, etc.

    Hi David,
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this. To add fonts from Typekit to your Muse website, you will want to use the web fonts path instead of desktop fonts.  (You can use a desktop font synced from Typekit in your Muse design, but it will exported as an image the same as any other system font.)
There are a couple options for using Typekit web fonts in Muse:
    o) The Muse Insider wrote a post on how to insert the Typekit embed code from the Muse interface:
    http://museinsider.com/how-to-add-typekit-fonts-to-your-muse-site.html
    o) Or you can add the embed code to the Page Properties dialog within Muse, which will include it in the <head> of the page when you export your website. The steps are the same as this tutorial, but you will add the Typekit embed code to Muse instead of into your page directly:
TYPEKIT | Adding fonts to your site
Note that in either case the Typekit fonts will not be displayed in the Muse preview window. You'll need to publish your site to a server in order for the Typekit fonts to be loaded into the page.
If those look like more coding that you are comfortable with, you might try one of the fonts which you can select from the font menu instead. Here are some that are similar to :
    https://edgewebfonts.adobe.com/fonts#/?xHeight=high&contrast=low&class=sans-serif&width=re gular
We are also working on a more complete integration of Typekit with Muse in the future, but I can't say yet when that will be available.
    >> PS:  I seem to have a separate issue with the Creative Cloud app, which is not listing fonts under the Assets tab.  But I don't think that is related as they are working fine for Photoshop, etc.
Do you see a "loading" icon in the tab (e.g. a blue spinner wheel)?  It sounds similar to this thread; you might try these suggestions:
Re: Adobe Creative Cloud / Desktop App / Home Screen: Constant Spinning Wheel
I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions.  Best,

  • My Font Book is missing some fonts??

    Hi,
I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Tiger is backed up on a portable drive that is currently plugged into a USB port on my Mac.
    The following has happened three.
I just opened a website and a window opeds (on the Mac not the website) telling me that Safari wants to use a certain font (in this case Garamond) that is on the Tiger Back up drive. I don't recall the name of the other two fonts.
Is there any particular reason why the Font Book on Leopard does not have these fonts?
Is there any reason why I shouldn't add them?
How do I do add them? Is it just cut and paste (I don't want to mess anything up)?
    Thank you.

Just copy and paste to add.
Depends on how you upgraded as to what would have been copied where, and may explain why fonts are now missing.
Font book by default only installs fonts for you, but you may have changed it to install for all users, in which case it would copy to your main system folder and would explain why they are missing as you now have a new system folder. Nothing is carried over from old to new system folder when upgrading.
Just copy the missing fonts from the drive to your machine. Should just be a double click to install.

  • Why is my mac missing certain fonts and not displaying some pictures, is just a little blue box with a question mark in it?

When I open documents it always comes up with warnings that I am missing fonts and some cannot be replaced.
Also now I am noticing that some pictures are now missing and are replaced by a small blue box with a question mark in the middle. Can anyone
tell me what is going on and how I can fix this?
    Confused and frustrated,

Do you get a dialog box if you control click the missing image.

  • Edit code for change drive letters in paths for links, to also work with Fonts that have been moved.

I have the following code that looks through my links and changes all of the drive letters to the new locations where they exist.  So if something stays in the same folder structure, but moves to a new drive E: and InDesign can not longer find it, you can run the code and have it fix them all.
Well I want to do the same but for fonts that have also moved.

ok, so I have discovered where the issue came from...
The code you helped me with before, were I removed all links and my link character styles that I had (found here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5881440#5881440)
Well it set all the items I was finding/replacing to unknown fonts that my machine doesn't have (Like Helvetic Neue Bold, instead of just Helvetica Bold, etc).
Is there an easy way of fixing this?
The only way I know to fix it right now is:
Go to Package >> go to Fonts >> Select the the font that says it's missing >> Select Find First >> CLOSE ALL OF THIS, then use the eye-dropper to select the text around that font which copies the formatting and then apply it to the text who's formatting got messed up.  And then start the process all over again for the next occurence of that word whose formatting got stripped.

  • Missing Times font error/warning message

I've been getting a warning message the the Times font could not be found and Times New Roman is replacing it. I've never added Times to the FrameMaker templates, so I'm not sure where it's finding this font. I checked the References pages and it appears that they already use Times New Roman.
I had also had a problem with FM saying that Arial Black isn't available (even though it's installed on my computer). But once I double-clicked on the font file, it seemed to recognize the Arial Black was available.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Barry

There are two slightly different things gong on with these two font problems, I think.
First, it's generally thought to be a FM Best Practice to use the Adobe PDF instance as your default system printer. If you can't, for some reason, there's a free plug-in that will automatically do this just for Frame. Doing this prevents Frame from using fonts that are physically in the printer, but not installed on your system, and not transportable with the document (and can't be embedded in PDFs). And conversely, makes sure that FM uses system fonts. So that may fix some of these problems.
That said, if you're sure your system is set up properly, the Time font you may be missing is likely to be buried deep in some Frame files and is being used internally on Reference or Master pages. If you modify your Preferences so that Remember Missing Fonts is NOT activated, open and save the problem files, your available fonts should be substituted.
Arial Black is a slightly different problem, but you can do the same Preferences trick to clean it up. Or, fix the problem, created with XP SP3 changed the fonts.... http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71801

  • Missing system font for template

I was trying to load a template (Info, Checkbox), but am getting the error message that this project uses a missing system font: applemyungjo regular. Anyone know where I can get this font?

I'm not sure why LT thinks it needs this Korean font, but it now has what it wants. When I did my erase and install of Leopard, I did not include the optional foreign fonts. I reinstalled the fonts from the install disk for the computer (without having to touch Leopard installation) and it works now.

  • Missing ligature font chars

I have some pdf in which 'ligature' font chars are missing: I can see correctly 'ff' and 'ffi' chars displaying the pdf, but If I copy and paste text (or extract text using SDK) there are no 'ffi', 'ff' chars (with copy-paste a see a square instead of that chars).
I don't generate this pdfs by myself, so I don't know the generation process.
My doubt is: I can see correct chars even if embedded text is bad, why? Is there a way to extract good text?
If  I do a pdf->ps->pdf conversion, the missing chars problem is fixed. I can copy and paste text and I see correct ligature font chars. How this could be possible?
    Thanks in advance

It isn't guaranteed to solve the problem - in fact, it will only do so in VERY SPECIFIC use cases.
It does it because this process is COMPLETELY REWRITING the PDF.  NONE of the original PDF remains, which is why this is an extremely lossy operation.  BUT if the font that was used is present on the machine, then that font information is used instead of the bad data in the original PDF.

  • [Perm] InDesign missing necessary fonts or CMAP files.

    Hi there...
I searched and found a thread on this before but I still haven't been able to solve my problem.
I performed a clean install of Jagaur on my system. G3 iMac DV SE 500 Mhz (Snow) and it has 768 MB RAM.
I then installed InDesign 2.0 from the CD and it installs fine. When I launch InDesign I get the error that "Missing Required Fonts or CMAP file. Please reinstall InDesign" -- I've reinstalled about 50 times with the same result.
    I've tried the following:
    - Deleting all instances of Adobefnt.lst
    - Deleting all InDesign support files from the root>library>application support>adobe folder and the user>username>library>preferences folder.
I'm at my wits end. InDesign performs flawlessly on my Titanium Powerbook G4, also running Jaguar.
Does anyone else have any other suggestions?
    :) Mordy

    I FOUND IT!!!
For some odd reason, the Application Support in my user>username directory was locked and owned by the system -- therefore, the ID installer couldn't put the files there (the files WERE in the root>library>application support folder but I guess that wasn't good enough. Anyway, I reset the owner of the folder to myself (admin) and then manually copied the fonts and cmap files there and it launched!!!
    YAY!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who helped both physically and mentally...

  • Comments from Adobe Reader (Ipad) is not readable on PC (missing Helvetica font)

    Hello!
I have a such problem - my chief is commenting pdf documents at his iPad. Problem is that this comments cannot be viewed, because of missing font "Helvetica". I cannot find any options to change font at Ipad. As I know - Helvetica font is commercial font, so I can not find it in web and install to workstations. How it can be solved? Help, please!

    Hi,
When a particular font is unavailable on your system, it should be automatically substituted with the similar font that exists on your system.  (As a user, you do not need to do anything.)
On your PC, which PDF viewer application do you use to view the PDF document?
The desktop version of Adobe Reader should not have any problems viewing the comments created by Adobe Reader/Acrobat DC for iOS.
Do you get an error message on your PC?  Would you take a screenshot of the error message and post it to your next forum reply?
How to add a screenshot to a forum message from iPad/iPhone
Does your chief use Adobe Reader/Acrobat DC for iOS to add comments to PDF documents on his iPad?  Or does he use some other iOS app to add comments?
    Thank you.

  • Missing Some Fonts Called For in Apple Pro Training Serries FCS 2 Book

I am currently working my way through Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Studio 2 by Mark Spencer and Jem Schofield in the Apple Pro Training Series. Twice I have encountered cases where I am unable to find the font called for in the book. One case was Helvetica neue (I substituted Helvetica) and the second instance in which the Herculanum font is called for. I am surprised that books in this series would use fonts that do not seem to be on my computer. I am using OS 10.4.10 with all updates and similarly for FCS 2. I feel I may be missing something here, i.e. perhaps the fonts really are somewhere on my system and are just not accessible to FCS 2. Is that possible? Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

    Hanumang and All,
Thank you for your help. Let me bring this to closure by explaining what I found on investigating this issue and what I did to resolve it and obtain the fonts.
On the basis of your confirmation that these fonts should have been on my iMac, I called Apple Support. I spent the usual hour on line with them and went through two support people only to learn that the only way to get these fonts back into my OS X Library/Fonts folder (without having a second Mac computer) was to reinstall the operating system. It is remarkable to me that one cannot simply get the fonts off the Apple Installation disk, but it cannot be done since they are installed as part of the OS X installation and are not in a separate directory or folder on the installation disk.
I set out to do an Archive and Install with Preserve User Settings carefully checked. About one third of the way through the Archive and Install process the process hung and failed to move forward for more than an hour. I finally ended the installation process and attempted to run it again which it would not allow me to do as the Archive and Install process was now grayed out. I had no choice but to run an Erase and Install process to get a clean version of OS X on my system.
Once I had the clean version of OS X on the system, I used Font Book to check for Helvetica neue and Herculanum fonts and they were now there. I then copied all of the fonts in Library/Fonts from this vrigin install of OS X to an external drive. I back up my iMac every night automatically using Retrospect so I was now able to do a full restore of my Mac HD using Retrospect. Of course, once I had done that the fonts were missing again, but I just copied all the fonts from the external HD copy into the Library Fonts folder on my Mac HD, and all was well -- some 7 hours after starting this process.
You know, as someone who has recently bought their first Mac computer in 24 years, I would have to say that I am very disappointed in certain aspects of OS X. It takes an excessively long time to reinstall OS X compared to Windows XP with which I am very familiar. The Archive and Install feature of OS X has not worked for me on the two occasions where I have tried to use it and I truly miss the REstore feature of Windows XP.
I love Apple Professional level software like FCS 2 and Aperture, but I am not a fan of OS X. My hope is that Leopard with Time Machine and other new features will address some of the problems with OS X.
    Tom
