If it's the first gen iPad (i.e. the one without cameras) then it only supports up to iOS 5.1.1, you can't update it to a higher version.

Usual way of software update does not help.
Keeps saying you have the latest update .To get beyond 10.7.5, you must go to the App Store and purchase an upgrade.

I downloaded my sons ipod 5g with the latest iOS and now when we try to sync it says we have no space, but there is nothing but a few apps on his ipod and he has plenty of space. The messege says that most of is space is taken up by video but there is no video or music on his ipod right now. I've tried to reset his ipod but that did not help the problem. What can I do?

I lost my play list, when trying to use Home Sharing, So I turned Home Sharing off and sync over WI-Fi off, and tried to sync my original play lists back. That did not work. So I decided to do a restore (I need to clean up anyway) I have the latest update for my iPad, but iTunes keeps trying to update my iPad and its taking up to 20 hours to do it, then it fails. This is very irritating seeing as I work with these products everyday as I am IT support for my company. I have tried different cables both USB and Ethernet and WI-Fi. I have tried each one of my computers that are authorized; laptop, mac book pro, and my PC. Please give me a solution.

why does itunes say i have the latest version 4.2.1 (8c148) for my 3rd gen iPod touch when it should be iOS 5?
Be sure it is really a 3rd gen. Some people with 2nd gens were told they were 3rd gens. Identifying iPod models or Look up specs by Serial Number. If it is a 2nd gen, then you can't upgrade.
IF IT REALLY IS A THIRD GEN iPod Touch, then you first need to upgrade to iTunes 10.5 in order to download iOS 5 because older versions of iTunes don't support and can't sync with iOS 5. -
When I try to update my phone to ios 7 it says i need to update my itunes to 11.0.5, when i check my current version in help menu under check for updates it says I have the current 11.0.5 version. Even the downloader for the update doesnt show that i need to update.Help plzz????
There is some kind of error. The new version of iTunes is 11.1, which although is not available via updates, it can be downloaded from the Apple website here:

After updating iTunes to the newest version you should be able to update your iOS

My Ipod shuffle appears in itunes on mac but not on windows 7 even though we have the latest update of itunes. We have also tried the other solutions on the apple support site.

What gives is that your Touch cannot run any later version of iOS than 4.2.1. The apps your are trying to download require iOS 5, so they will not run on your model.
You have to purchase a new Touch or a refurbished or used one that can run iOS 5.x.x or iOS 6.x.x.
