I-pod not accessible in I-tunes

Well this is a rather random question. i plug my 120G i-pod classic into my MAC, and i-tunes comes up, everything works great, i can sync it with computer just fine... but when the i-pod shows up in the "device" section on the left side of itunes screen, i can click on the arrow next to it to make a drop down bar that includes, music, movies, podcasts, etc... And if i click on the music section under the i-pod, all my music on my i-pod is listed, just as it is in my library of i-tunes. However, it's all "greyed out" so to speak.. like i can't click on and play/edit any songs under the i-pod's music.. i have to change it in my music library and then re-sync the whole thing... is this normal? I thought i could access the music directly on the i-pod from i-tunes and it would automatically update the i-pod?
Any comments/ suggestions? THANX!!!

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.
Please note that by editing/changing the songs on your iPod in this manner, the changes will not affect the songs in iTunes, only on your iPod.

  • I POD not charging when I tunes recognise it

    Hello,
    Just bought a video I-POD 60 GIG.
I installed the CD, connected the device and left it charging for 24 hours. Then I created a library synchronized it and start enjoying the music.
I let the battery run just to see how long those would last.
I then plugged the i-pod again. Here what happens:
    1) Plug I pod
    2) Do not disconnect warning pops up and battery start charging
    3) I tune starts
    4) I tunes recognize I-pod and synchronies music battery still charging
    5) Synchronization end and Battery STOP CHARGING
Why batteries stop charging? Has anybody experienced something similar?
I run Win 2000 on a dell D810 laptop. I have 4 USB 2 ports if I choose not to start I-tune automatically when I connect I-pod this charges without any problem.
I uninstalled I tunes re-installed it but no success.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you
    Enrico

Thank you for your reply, but since when this happened the battery status icon was rd I would assume the battery is not fully charged and should start charging.
Also when the I-pod goes to sleep there is no sign of battery icon.
    Might be an I-tune bug?
It may be the battery is charged up already. When iTUnes gets done syncing the iPOd it goes back to the main menu on the iPod and there will be a baby sized icon in the top right corner with a battery and a lighting bolt on it, after awhile the iPod goes into a semi sleep state this is when the battery icon will cover the screen much like the "DO NOT DISCONNECT" Icon http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/anatomy/3/

  • Music I purchased on I Tunes is not available when I open ITunes in I Movie.  I Movie says those files are "protected" and not accessible.  What does that mean and can I change them to "unprotected" so I can use them in IMovie?

Most of the music that I purchased on I Tunes I bought and downloaded on my old I Mac which I replaced with this I Mac about 9 months ago.  When I"m using I Movie on this I Mac and try to open I Tunes tab in I Movie, most of the files are not accessible because I Movie says those fields are protected. What does that mean and can I change those files to unprotected so they show up in my music in IMovie?
    This I Mac is OS X version 10.9.5 Maverick, 2.7GHz Intel Core 15 processor, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory.

Your older iTunes music purchases included DRM software to prevent sharing.

For some money you can get it removed and get a better quality file to boot.

  • HT5085 I have found that at least 3 music videos that I had previously purchased are not available in my I-tunes music video list.  I paid for them over a year ago, why are they not accessible, and why did they just disappear from my lists?

Have you deleted anything from your iTunes library ? Have you checked to see if they are still on your computer, but not listed in your iTunes library ?
If not then do they show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage for redownloading ? If they don't show there and others do and they are still in your country's store, then check to see if they are hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If they are no longer in your store for redownloading (or you aren't in a country where music videos can be redownloaded) then you will need to copy them back from your backup of your library/downloads.

  • I Pod classic not appearing in i tunes

When I plug in my I pod Classic 80g the follwing error message occurs:
There might be a problem with some of the files on this device or disk. This can happen if you remove the device or disk before all the files have been written to it.
    Scan & Fix (recommended)
    Continue without scanning.
I have tried clicking both options, but although a scan appears to start, the dialogue box disappears and nothing happens. I have tried the "5 Rs" but am unable to restore as the device is not shown in I Tunes.
I also have an i phone which I have no issues connecting to the same laptop & itunes, so would appear to be an issue with the i pod?
Any ideas would be appreciated as I am at a loss with this...
    Thanks abs

I have the ipod classic 120gig and am having the same problem. Just started today. I even tried Media Monkey and can't get it to recognize my ipod. Still searching the discussion groups for a fix.

*I recently purchased music from the i tunes store andwas told I had to upgrade which I did. I was able to complete my purchase and my music arrived. Problem is my i pod doesn't show in the i tunes menu anymore. I can't get my i pod updated from the i tunes file. What happened? Everything was working fine until I upgraded i tunes. This is a mini if that matters.
