I upgraded my Iphone 4 wirelessly to iOS 5.1 and I'm stuck in recovery mode and my phone won't restore and gives me error (1) What do I do?

I upgraded my iphone4 wirelessly to iOS 5.1 and now I'm stuck in recovery mode and when I try and restore my phone it gives me error code (1)  At this point,
I want a working phone.  Any ideas?

download a program called RecBoot, very easy to use, connect your iphone and click on "exit recovery mode" and it will restart normally. I had the same problem as you, but I solved it with this program.

You can not get help here per the terms of service. Discussing jailbroken devices is forbidden.
The ONLY thing we can advise you to do is try putting the phone in DFU mode (google for instructions) and restore it.
Beyond that, you're on your own.

If the iPhone was hacked or jailbroken, can't be discussed.
If no, see post above ^^.

  • My iPhone 3Gs is stuck in Recovery Mode. My phone has never been jailbroken. What can I do to get it out of the Recovery Mode loop?

My iPhone 3Gs went into Recovery Mode yesterday when I got home. When I plug it into my computer iTunes opens and gives me this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." I click the "Restore iPhone" button and wait while iTunes reinstalls the software on the iPhone. As soon as the install is done, I get the same message again "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." I'm stuck in a Recovery Mode loop. How do I get out?
This iPhone has never been jailbroken. After a litte research on line I saw some people got stuck in Recovery Mode after a jailbreak, but this is not the case here. Please help.

Check out the article below to walk you through resolveing the issue by checking the host file or jus ttring to restore your iPhone on a different computer all together.

  • IPhone 3gs stuck in recovery mode, firmware iO 5

My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode. I have a 3gs, firmware 5.0.
Before I tried to restore it, my iPhone would randomly shut off, turn back on, and display a notification that said "Activation Required." Now, sometimes my phone would shut off again and return to it's previous working state. However, this time it did not. I put the phone into recovery mode and tried restoring it on my Acer Aspire 1 with Windows 7. iTunes put the phone through the various stages of restoration; Extracting Software, Preparing iPhone for Restore, Restoring Software, Verifying Restore, Restoring Firmware. After all of this, a nice little error message pops up that reads, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (1)."
After this little mishap occured four more times, I decided to click "More Information," and was promptly brought to the help page set up here. I proceeded to troubleshoot by updating to the latest version of iTunes, updating my security, restarting my computer, and so forth until all the necessary precautions were performed. Now it was back to iTunes to try my luck at getting my life back.
To my delight, I found that this time the restoration process took upwards of forty minutes to complete. However, to my despair, a nice little error message popped up that read, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (-1)." Ah, a different error message! i thought, feeling as if there was hope in fixing my phone. I clicked "More Information" and skimmed through the specific error messages, looking for that lucky -1. Nothing.
I need help. I have attempted to restore my phone a dozen times since this occurence, and I'm growing tired of going through the same process over and over and getting the same result. My phone is stuck in recovery mode now. I've tried restoring the phone on 2 different computers, to find out if, in fact, the problem was my iPhone and not my computer.
Some important information you may need to know in order to help me solve my problem:
    iPhone 3gs
    Running iOS 5.0
    Using iTunes 10.5
On an Acer Aspire One Netbook
    Running Windows 7
All security updates installed as of November 7, 2011
Also iTunes 10.5 on Acer Aspire 57354774 laptop
    Running Windows 7
Reply ASAP with a solution please!

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 3GS which I updated with the last firmware (iOS 5) 2 weeks ago. Everything goes ok.
And suddenly, while the phone was recharching. It asked me to activate it but I was unable to do it as it was rebooting constantly every time I connected it to iTunes.
I tried both 2 restore modes (Restore and DFU) but since I can't achieve a restore with the last Apple iOS 5 firmware. I got the error code 1.
I I tried on 3 different computers but same error. I really don't know what to do next...
I already called Apple Customer Care and I'm still waiting for an answer. I let you know.
And you, did you manage to get your iPhone back alive ?

  • Iphone Unknown Error 40 stuck in recovery mode

    Hi,
My question is... if my iphone is stuck in recovery mode and I return it to the shop I bought it from and they give me my money back/replace it etc, if they then do get the phone to work will they be able to see all my data/photos/messages etc? Or will it only restore personal data if the phone is restored from my itunes?
I updated my Iphone 4 via Itunes yesterday and it's now stuck in recovery mode, every time I try to restore the phone it gets to "waiting for iphone" then Unknown error 40 appears.
I have tried the suggestions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
I am going to take it to the apple store genius next week, but first am returning it to the shop I bought it from as they want to see if they can fix it (it was unlocked when I bought it, they claimed it was an apple unlocked phone but I am concerned it was in fact unlocked by them and this is why I am having problems).  Hence my question being, will they be able to restore it to my data without access to my itunes to back it up from?  Will it just be a factory setting reset if they fix it (which I'd prefer)?
    Thanks in advance!
    C

    Hi Fkaram,
Sorry to say I haven't found a solution (after hours of searching!) and have bought an android moto g. The only difference from yours is that I replaced the dock connector as I kept getting error 4014, which turned it on after being off for three weeks, and then went to error 40.
If you haven't got a warranty, I can only suggest replacing the dock connector. Its cheap (£5) and pretty easy to fix. I only tried this because changing the leads didn't work, but I kept getting the faulty leads error (4014+40)
    Good luck!
ps - check for any bent pins or if there is a red/coloured light in the connector itself. I didn't see any bent pins so was lucky the replacement actually did something

  • My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode. Getting Error 37 from iTunes

My iPhone4 is stuck in recovery mode. When I try to restore it through iTunes I get the message that it couldn't be restored. It's either Error 37 or Error -1

    Hi again,
I tried that, changing the firewall settings, and I got the -1 Error message.
This problem began a few months ago.
My hard drive died on my laptop, and I got it replaced and reinstalled iTunes on it. At that time I had an iPhone3.
From then on, all of my music had glitches, quiet patches, and some tracks which would not work.
I took my phone back to my service provider, who replaced it with an iPhone 4.
When I set that up, I had the same problems with the music. I could download an album on the iPhone, and it would be fine, but when I sync the phone with the laptop the album becomes glitchy again.
Now it's stuck in recovery mode again.

  • I've tried to restore my iphone 5 and when I do it says that its restored but it just stays stuck in recovery mode

I've tried to restore my iPhone 5 a number of times and it says that it has been restored but is now stuck in recovery mode. I keep trying to restore it but it just won't work. How can I fix this?

    Perform a Reset...
    Reset
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

    If no success
Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Restore “

  • After I upgraded my iphone 4 with the ios 7.1.1 it locks up sending text messages.  It will send a few, then mid conversation I will have to turn my phone off and back on, sometimes a few times, before it will allow me to send or receive messages again.

After I upgraded my Iphone 4 with the ios 7.1.1 it locks up while sending text messages.  I can usually send a few then will have to restart my phone(often more than once) to get it to send and receive messages again.  I have done a back up and complete reset and that has not fixed the problem.    Have been told that the ios 7.1.1 just isn't compatible with the Iphone 4 so that's why it is locking up so often, but I am hoping someone else may have a better answer since it can't be undone.  Thanks!

7.1.1 is certainly compatible with the iPhone 4. Just try a reset first.
Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • I recently upgraded my iphone to the latest IOS but my GPS seems to have a problem... I am unable to get directions from one point to another ... how do I solve this problem?

help! I recently upgraded my iphone to the latest IOS but my GPS seems to have a problem... I am unable to get directions from one point to another ... how do I solve this problem?

If using the built-in Maps app, directions are not available everywhere. Read here:
    http://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-directions
If that's your problem, download the Google Maps app.
