I upgraded to Windows 8. I had to download firefox. I signed in to my account but my passwords, bookmarks, etc. aren't there.

After upgrading to Windows 8 FireFox wasn't on my computer so I downloaded it. After downloading it I signed in to my account but my passwords, bookmarks, etc were not there. How do I get my profile back? I have changed my folder view to include hidden files. The only file in my profile folder is xxxxx.default with today's date. I do have my bookmarks on my iPad but I am afraid to sync for fear it will overwrite the ipad with the empty computer profile instead of the other way around. And I don't think my passwords are on the ipad Firefox - are they? HELP!

Hi belindawolfe, I meant
C:\Windows.old\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
''if you have'' a C:\Windows.old folder. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Had to download Firefox to complete a questionnaire, did that, but every time I try to complete the questionnaire, I am told I have to download Firefox to continue.

I have to complete a document for a new job. I use a macbook. When I clicked to start the questionnaire, I got a prompt saying I had to either download Firefox or Internet Explorer (have safari currently). I downloaded Firefox (a few times now!).
Now when I try to complete the questionnaire, i get the same message saying I need to download either Firefox or Internet Explorer. The questionnaire never appears.
    This is hugely frustrating.

Use iTunes support. There is a problem with your iTunes account and
you will not be able to download until the problem is resolved.

Just want to avoild spending hours migrating everything across....

Yes, I can read but just can't write DVD's. I get:
This disc can’t be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc (error code 0x80020063).
Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.
In the old account I have reset SMU, Pram... but no change.

  • Using Firefox 4 & Windows 7. Everytime I start Firefox from a shortcut to a website it comes up with the following error 'there was a problem sending the command to the program'. The requested website does load after this. with no problems.

If a shortcut is used while Firefox is already open the error does not occur.

As reported in earlier replies, the annoyance disappeared after I upgraded to Roboform 7.5.6, from 7.5.4.

  • I HAD TO DO A FACTORY RESET ON MY COMPUTER AND HAD TO DOWNLOAD FIREFOX AGAIN BUT ALL MY PASSWORDS AND EMAILS ARE GONE PLEASE HELP

i had problems with my computer so had to do a factory reset downloaded firefox and all emails and passwords are gone i am new to this and didnt know how to back them up i need these emails and passwords back

If you've reset your Windows setup by doing a factory reset and you didn't make a backup of the personal data in the Firefox Profile Folder before doing this then I'm afraid that all data that Firefox stores in the Firefox Profile Folder is lost.

You should regularly backup your personal data in Firefox to guard against such issues.

  • I have windows 7 and i recently downloaded firefox 4 last month and today it just wont display as firefox 4

i have windows 7 and ive had firefox 4 for a while and it has been working properly until today . it won't display as the firefox 4 but as a regular firefox. my persona will not work with firefox4 anymore like it did until this day. i tried uninstalling and restarting and reinstalling but nothing is working how can i fix this to have the firefox 4 browser and personas back to the way it was when i downloaded firefox 4 last month

Presumably it looks like you see it in the top half of the screenshot?
If so, right click a blank part of the Tab Bar and then click the top option called "Menu bar". This will return it to the way you see it displayed in the bottom half of the picture albeit with the tabs on top.
If you want to move the tabs to below the location bar, right click a blank part of the Tab Bar again and then click "Tabs on top".

  • I had to reinstall firefox and now i can't find any of my bookmarks.

i had to reinstall firefox because i had reset my computer and now i can't find any of my bookmarks. what do i do? i need most of those for college and i don't remember them. i have a windows 8.1 computer and i'm not super teck savvy. i need the answer in techno idiot terms. help!

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder named '''Old Firefox?'''
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/ FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension)]''' {web link}
FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your
Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more.
In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild
your saved files individually into installable .xpi files.
It will also make backup of files that you choose.

  • FF crashed, I had to download a new copy in IE, I've lost years of bookmarks, where can I find the earliest copy of them?

I'm using Win XP Pro. I had to download a new copy of FF (ver 25.0.1) using IE since my last version had crashed, and in doing so, I lost a decade of bookmarks. I've tried everything in FF Help, with no success. I understand that FF saves up to 10 old copies of bookmarks - I need to know where to find them, so as to copy one into my current version. Thanks for any help offered.

A crash usually doesn't require to download and reinstall Firefox unless this happened when Firefox was trying to update (Firefox 25.0.1 had been released recently).
Did Firefox create a new profile or are you still using your previous default profile?
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_missing_profile
If Firefox has been reset then you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop with your old personal data.
You can find bookmarks JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder in the Firefox profile folder.
It is possible to recover data from an old profile, but be cautious not to copy possibly corrupted files.

  • How to stop Windows Explorer 8 refusing to download Firefox? It says this is an illegal action

I have a new-to-me 2008 Dell laptop running Explorer8 for Windows XP(SP3). I try to download Firefox, which we use in all our other computers as browser, and it refuses to download the files, saying this is an illegal action, and it kicks me offline. How do I neutralize Explorer8, which apparently is not willing to die peacefully, download Firefox, then change to Firefox as default browser without a laptop meltdown?

You can download the Firefox installer to a USB flash drive or CD-RW at a public library or a friend's house or a colleague's PC. Just make sure that if you have a different OS (e.g., Windows vs. Mac) that you get the correct version. You can use the "all" page for that:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
You also may want to grab some anti-malware tools while you're at it in case the process rejecting Firefox is not IE itself but an infiltrator. These two tools are highly regarded:
    Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/
