I want to set up iMessage and Facetime for my daughter. I know I have to create a new apple ID but can I still sync her iPod to my iTunes account?

I bought my daughter an iPod touch for Christmas. I orginally set up her iPod with my Apple ID but I realized that she needed her own apple ID in order to use iMessage and Facetime with me. So if I create an Apple ID for her, can I link it to my email? Will I still be able to sync her iPod to downloaded songs from my Apple ID?

No, sorry. Purchases are permanently tied to the AppleID & Account used when making the purchase. Purchases cannot be transferred to another AppleID.

Last week I changed my Apple ID. I was having some problems with getting "incorrect ID or password" message. sometimes it would accept my info and sometimes it wouldn't. Hunter of Sock Monsters thanks...I did follow your advise. I went to the iforgot site and tried answering the secret questions twice. I got the "wrong answer", so the next time I asked for an email authentication. I am still waiting. I don't know what the usual time for waiting normally is. I am still waiting for an email reply from three days ago. I'm not going to hold my breath. My ipad is out of warranty but I may have to beg for help from support? I'll wait awhile longer. Maybe there is another thing someone could come up with. I appreciate your fast reply Hunter.

I could do that, however when I select the icloud button (or whatever the heck it is) I am asked to enter the apple id and password. So if you are suppose to create another one for icloud you'd think it would give you the option at this point which would be logical.

Delete them and then download them from the desired Apple ID. This may require repurchasing paid applications.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

There is another setting for "Start Conversation from", that needs to be set to phone number.

First, you don't have a 5+ year old 3GS. The 3GS has only been around for under 4 years. In fact, 5 years ago there were NO iPhones; the original iPhone (2 generations before the 3GS) came out on June 29, 2007 - not quite 5 years ago. The 3GS was released June 19, 2009.
That aside, you can sync multiple phones to one computer - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495. boogeyman is wrong. Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them. You will have to delete the apps from the phone and re-purchase them using your Apple ID.

The old Apple ID (presumably your dads) owns those songs and your new Apple ID does not. However, your dad can authorize your iD to use the songs by going to Store > Authorize This Computer from your iTunes menu and entering his Apple ID and password.

They don't expire. As far as anyone knows Apple IDs live on forever - if you forgot its password use https://iforgot.apple.com. Good luck with the answers to whatever security questions it asks.

Right! That's the reason you do not create a new Apple ID.
As far as Apple is concerned a new Apple ID is a completely different user, with absolutely, positively no access to anything available to any other Apple ID.
Concentrate your efforts on resetting the password to your old Apple ID. It has not expired, and is the only way to use all your existing iTunes purchases, App Store purchases, computer authorizations... etc. Forget about the new Apple ID you just created.

You're not obligated to insert a gift code. But you can purchase gift codes on the Apple online store (gift cards or certificates) or Apple Retail store
