  • I have a mac book osx 10.5.8 and would like to upgrade the hard drive any recommendations?

can i upgrade hard drive on my mac book osx 10.5.8?

An Early 2008 can be upgraded...to see a good selection of options, go the OWC site at http://www.macsales.com they are Mac specialists and only sell things they have tested and can guarantee to be compatible.  They also have on-line videos that will show you how to do the replacement.

  • How would I install an old hard drive???

    OK Folks,
    Heres the project at hand
I would like to utilize my Hard Drive from my old 350 Mhz G3 (Blue and White)... 6 GB Ultra ATA/33 hard drive....
by installing it into my 467 Mhz G4 (Graphite) Power Mac....
Would anyone have a tutorial or some guidance about executing such an operation?
    Many Thanks

It can be done. Your Mac is backward-compatible with that drive.
If you can install a memory upgrade without trashing your computer or injuring yourself, you can do it yourself. It will require a #2 Phillips screwdriver. An illustrated article describing many possibilities is here:
HT1815- Power Mac G4: Installing Internal Storage Devices
I see you have another post on this topic. You appear to me to have two distinct problems:
    • Your mac will not power on, and the date has recently been going wacky.
This is most often caused by a dead PRAM battery. Remove the added Hard Drive and debug that problem first. Try the PRAM Reset. Use the procedure described -- press and hold the tiny button for a quarter minute, then wait at least five seconds before attempting a restart. Avoid momentary presses, they can wreak havoc. If not successful the first time, try it again a few more times. Plan on buying a new battery soon.
    • If you want to use that drive in the long run, you will need to install it on the cable with the other Hard Drive. It will not behave properly on the CD drive cable. You will need to set its straps to not interfere with the other Hard Drive. But fix your startup problem first.

  • Can I delete hard drive and still preserve 'recovery partition'?

    Hi!
I would like to delete the hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite laptop because I don't like the new Windows 7
operating system. I'm thinking of putting on the Windows XP OS since it's not as 'bloated' as the new OS.
However, I'm concerned that I might also lose the 'recovery partition' that has the factory settings. Do I
have anything to be concerned about? Thanks!

    For Sure!!
If you want to replace 7 with new XP, then you can while keeping the factory settings recovery partition by following these simple steps:
    1) First of all, you should place all your important files and document to any secure place to not face the data loss conditions.
    2) Restart Computer and press F8 key until the boot option appears on-screen.
3)Chose any visible system recovery or repair options from the list of menus appear after pressing the F8 Key.
4)After  that, you could see an option named "System Recovery option screen" and then click "restore application".
5)Follow the guidelines, and when prompted click on "Full factory settings" option.
6)After successfully performing all the tasks, you will see the new window whatever you wish with full factory settings configuration.

I would like to backup my external HD with Time Machine in the HD of TC. Is it possible?
    Sorry, but not possible.
Time Machine can only back up the internal drive(s) in a Mac....or a drive that is connected directly to a Mac via USB or FireWire.....provided that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I am not recommending this, but you might be able to move the drive from the USB port to the Mac, and have Time Machine back it up that way.....then move it back to the USB port on the Time Capsule......but this will involve doing some risky things.....and manually changing settings around everytime you make the swap. Something will surely go wrong....but up to you if you want to try it.
Carbon Copy Cloner will back up the drive connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule to the Time Capsule disk, but these will not be Time Machine backups.  SuperDuper claims to also be able to do this.....but I have not tested it.

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • I transferred itunes library from old PC to new PC. The content all shows when I launch iTunes on the new PC now. The previous content does not show in iTunes but folder still looks like it is on hard drive on new PC. Suggestions on how to properly merge?

Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
To get all your content off your connect your iPad to your new computer.
Then use a 3rd party piece of software to transfer your content
I have found Senuti useful but there are others listed in the article I linked to in a previous post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
That will let you transfer your non purchased content
For Purchased content log in to iTunes on the new computer
In Itunes Store click on Purchased under the Quick Links section on the right.
Download any music by clicking on the cloud button

  • I would like to use an external drive for the iPad I just purchased for my husband?  How can I accomplish this is there an accessory that would allow me to use a USB

I would like to use an external drive for storage on the ipad I just purchased.   How can I do this?

You can't attach drives to any iOS device.
Having said that, there are some drives with built-in wifi routers that a device can connect to.  These would behave like a cloud device in which some of your apps might be able to connect.
Try googling to find some brands.

To reinstall the original OSX in your rMBP, boot the MBP using the COMMAND-OPTION-R keys.  The display should show a picture if the planet earth and you will be connected to the Apple servers.   Make certain that you have a solid Internet connection and follow the instructions.

i have recently update ios6 but it's not responding so i would like to backup this update, how colud i do so?

    What is not responding?
Did you perform the update via iTunes orover the air?
If iTunes, then all your data is backed up automatically.
Did you make sure to use only the latest version of iTunes (10.7 for PC users)?
If you are saying you want to leave IOS 6 and go back to 5, that is not possible. Apple stops signing previous builds typically within 24 hours from launch.

Unfortunately I lost my life and am trying to rebuild.  Isn't the technical era great.
    Backup, backup, backup
As a minimum, use 3-2-1 (or even more)
3 copies of your data (original copy counts as 1)
2 different backup utilities/storage formats (protects from bugs in the software)
1 copy off-site (protects against theft, fire, and natural disaster)
More backup copies are even better.
Backup disks are cheap compared to the lost of personal data that does not exist anywhere else.

  • I just upgraded to Lion, I would like to backup the 3.8GB update file for future reference.  Can I and  where is it located?

I downloaded the Lion upgrade from Snow Leopard, and now would like to backup that large file in case my disk ever crashes and I have to reload.  I don't want to have to re-purchase the upgrade again if I re-install from Leopard and then want to upgrade again.  Where is that large upgrade file and can I back it up?

As it is in your App Store "Purchases", you can d/l at no cost on any Mac you own, and can even re-d/l and re-install at no cost anytime.

If it's a generic SATA HD you'll probably need to format it for Mac using Disk Utility.
