IBooks 3 is the WORST!

I carry several PDFs on my iPad and iPhone for work.
Everytime Apple releases a new iBooks update it changes the total count of the iBooks library on either the iPhone or iPad by increasing it by 1.
Then, when you try to drag your library books to iBooks, the numbers start having significant differences between the master library in iTunes and the library on the iPad/iPhone.
So, then I have to delete the entire iPad/iPhone library and copy from the master library again.
Once that has been done, I have to watch the spinning circle in the top right hand corner of iBooks until it indexes everything. This process takes up to 2-hours on an iPad 2, 1-hour on an iPhone 4s.
Then what, oh yes, wait for the next iBooks update.
Apple, I have tried very hard to like iBooks, but GoodReader just gets it. You can copy anything you want and access it in microseconds.
Because of this I now buy my ebooks from Amazon.
Apple engineers are the laziest people on earth. They probably just sit there testing iBooks with like 3 files thinking that they are true geniuses.
Has anyone else suffered the iBooks upgrade library discrepency?
Please do not suggest Auto Sync. I just love how Apple says, "If you dare turn off this feature, we are going to delete everything from your iPad".

Only Apple know the answer to that. Sorry, but no one here can help you as to a date. You can try asking Apple at the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page, but as they have never given any exact date away in their history of releases, then I would say just be patient. I never use iBooks, so I can't help you with the rest.

    I'm posting here a) to warn other Mac users what to expect if you ever need customer support and b) because there's no where you can actually e-mail comments to Apple, and trying to contact customer support has been fruitless (see below).
    Here's what happened to me...
    I bought my iBook just under three years ago - a few weeks ago, the logic board went. Now, because I purchased the computer less than three years ago, that's covered under the extended warranty for iBook logic boards (see here: http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/).
    Simple, right? Well, I took my computer in to my local authorized service provider about three weeks ago. They confirmed the logic board was the problem... copied my receipt for the iBook to prove date of purchase... agreed that it was covered by the warranty.
    However, when they sent all this to Apple, their reply was that it was NOT covered because it was manufactured more than three years ago (although Apple's own website says it's purchase date - not manufacture date - that's important).
    I called Apple last Monday to find out what was going on. Spoke to a nice fellow named Kevin who said he'd look into it, and call me back the next day.
    Next day passed... no call. I called Kevin back left a message, and indicated I'd like to know what was going on.
    Wednesday passed... no call. By this point, I'm getting anxious - the service provider can't move ahead without authoriztion from Apple, Apple's not returning my calls (or the service provider's) to grant authorization.
    I tried Kevin again on Thursday. Left another message. No reply.
    Tried back on Friday morning. Left another message. Still no reply.
    Called customer support again Friday night. Antoine puts me hold for a half hour. I call back, explain that I've been on hold for half an hour, ask how long the wait should be. Antoine says two or three minutes. He puts me on hold again.
    For another ten minutes.
    I call back. Antoine explains that the reason I'm on hold is probably because customer service is closed. So why was I on hold for nearly an hour listening to terrible music? That's one of the mysteries of Apple customer support...
    So here I am, with a computer that's been in the shop nearly three weeks, that can't be repaired because Apple won't honour its warranty, and no way to even find out what's going on, because Apple's customer service is such an unnavigable maze.
    The sad thing is, I usually like Apples. I was even going to buy a new one this summer.
    Now - not a chance.
    The moral of the story? If you own an Apple, pray nothing ever goes wrong with it. If you expect your computer to ever need repairs, I'd suggest getting rid of your Apple now.
    If you're considering buying an Apple - consider again.
    As for me - from now on, make mine Microsoft.

    Call back, and don't mess around with Customer Service. Immediately ask for Customer Relations. These are the people whose job it is to make an unhappy customer happy again. They aim to please.
    A polite, but seriously disappointed tone of voice is what you need, so take some deep breaths until you can achieve that.
    There was an article in the February, 2005, issue of Reader's Digest called "How to Complain." Please read these tips. Then call and tell Customer Relations your sad experience with Customer Service.

  • Hp the worst brand ever! Worst support and customer service

    I bought the HP envy touchsmart 15-j001tx from Relaince Digital, Mangalore on 1st october 2013.
    When i reached home and opened the laptop i noticed a spot in the middle of the screen that was seen even when the laptop was switched off. It resembled some sort of liquid inside the screen. When i turned on the laptop it disappeared after a few minutes so i left it. On 2nd october when i opened the laptop in the morning i saw that the liquid spot had reappeared and it had spread and it was now covering the middle one third of the screen.. I turned on the laptop but this time it didnt disappear.
    I tried calling the seller and he told me to call customer care.. I called customer care but since it was gandhi jayanti they werent available. So i called them again on 3rd october and they registered my complaint and asked me to send pics and i did immediately! And they replied saying this damage is not covered under warranty. I called up the dealer again and he said bring it over.. So i headed to mangalore again (from manipal) and when i reached there they tell me that they wont replace the piece but if i take it to hp centre in mangalore they will give me a DOA certificate and then i can get a replacement. So i took it there but they too are dancing around the topic. Now i dont have a laptop and i dont have my 80,000 rupees that i spent trying to get this.
    I will fight to get either my money back or a new laptop but to anyone who is reading this... PLEASE keep in mind that HP has the worst customer service ever.. And Reliance digital will sell u faulty pieces and steal your money..

    Hi richmc. I will only deal with the last part of your message.
    You say that you want to use Outlook 2007 to collect your mail. That is not a problem, it is just an email client. BT do not supply this email client. Microsoft do.
    You cannot expect BT to be able to assist customers with all the different email clients available to use. You can get the server details etc to set it up yourself.
    Most ISP's are the same on support issues for things that they do not supply.
    BT do have a paid support service if you did want to use it but for things like email setup it should not be needed.
    You also say that you have your own domain names. These NEED to be hosted somewhere to be able to use them for email.
    I don't believe that BT do hosting anymore(Could be wrong). So you would need to get in touch with a hosting company, someone like Nethosting, 1&1, GoDaddy etc to set up an email hosting account and then set up your email client to your hosting companies email servers.

    I must say, I've been confronted with the worst of the worst: Comcast, Valve, AT&T but your customer service is a new peak. 
    It's the most incompetent and unprofessional customer service I've seen in pretty much my whole lifetime.
    I had a rather simple issue of my account being compromised and my password changed. So I contacted Customer Service step by step by your FAQ, filled out the form and provided all necessary information. Since that point, I have received 4 mails from 3 different employees (? I'm not even sure if these are human beings or just automated bots), telling me the same thing over and over again, prompting me to fill out the same form that I've already filled out thrice(!) with no results whatsoever. I keep getting the same copy-pasted default text every time.
    Do you people just have a network of bots sending a case around while copypasting the same text in it with the variety of putting one made up name from a long list to give the customer the illusion that his case is actually being worked on?
    So, customer service obviously has no intentions of helping me recover my account and drags a usual case in bueracracy without any results while treating their customers like complete morons.
    I will be looking for an alternative messanger for me and everyone I know and not going to bother making a new account, knowing how things are handled around here.
    I guess this is what the illusion of monopoly does to you. Making you treat your customers like utter garbage because they "have no other choice". Way to go, Microsoft.
    Edit: I just saw in related posts that other people had the same problem with the same frustration and never got an answer so I just wasted another 10 minutes on absolutely nothing because Skype doesn't care about their customers. I'm actually not surprised, seeing similar things in the industry every day.

    I also was talking to Francis F. Who forwarded me to the security team. I also asked if it would make any diffrence instead of being asked  the standard 4 questions I got asked many times. She said Yes. Today I saw  my mailbox and suddenly saw a skype message from the security team. It had the same 4 questions in it I need to awnser before getting any help...

    Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

    Let me explain a little more. I had downloaded a lot of free books in the past as a trial when iBooks was first released and since then I have decided I no longer want them, because of this I hid them from the purchased section of the iBooks store. The 5 books left are ones I decided to keep as seen in the following picture.
    This is how it appears in iBooks on my mac. There are 4 books downloaded and 1 book that I have decided not to download at this time. I would still like to keep this book available in the cloud incase I want to download it again in the future. You’ll notice that hide iCloud books is not selected, if I wanted to hide the book that I have chosen to keep in the cloud, but have not downloaded yet I could.
    This is exactly how I think this feature should work. If you have hidden a book from your purchases it should not show up in the mac Ibooks app. (I am aware you can never actually delete a purchase, just hide them and that hidden purchases can be restored to your account from within the account management section of the iBooks store).
    The iOS app is working differently for me. Here is a picture of the purchased tab on the iBooks store in iOS Ibooks. Again notice that pictures of Lilly is still yet to be downloaded. This is how I expected it to look.
    If we visit the front page of iOS iBooks the view is very different from what I expected. Here we can see the 4 books I wanted to keep on my device and have downloaded. We can also see the 1 book I wanted to keep, but did not want to store locally on the device and left in iCloud (Pictures of Lilly).     Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like the function to reseize the Font in an iBook is not functioning properly.
    I recommend a few things here. First close all the apps that are running in the background:
    Double-click the Home button.
    Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
    Swipe the app up to close it.

    When you have done that, restart the phone, and try again.
    If the issue persists, I would follow these steps from the article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting apps purchased from the App Store

    2. Check for app updates
    You can setup apps to update automatically in Settings > iTunes & App Store, but make sure that your apps are up to date:
    Open the App Store and tap Updates. If updates are available, tap Update All.

    Note: Some apps may require a Wi-Fi connection to update.
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    If none of your user-installed apps will launch, there could be an issue with Apple ID authorization. You can also remove an app from your iOS device and download it again from the App Store or sync the app from your computer.Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.
    4. Restart the app
    If the issue affects only a single app, try closing just that app.
    5. Restart your device
    Turn the device off and on.
    6. Reinstall the affected app
    Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
    Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-right corner of the app.
    Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
    Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
    Search for the app and then download it again.

    Some things that might help:
    1. Only the most recently used apps actually occupy memory (used to be the most recent 4, but may have changed in the latest iPhones). After 4 (or so), IOS writes them out of active memory, as it does for even the latest 4 if there's no activity for a long time. So the business of closing all the open apps, apart from the most recent ones doesn't make a difference. Tis article has a good explanation:

    2. There are settings about background app activity that might help:
    - Settings, General, Background App Refresh controls which apps can update their data in the background
    - Settings, Notifications controls which apps can tell you things, which they have to wake up to do.
    - Settings, Privacy, Location Services controls which apps monitor your location - another activity that uses resources

    That is my suggestion. Anyone have any corporate verizon management emails? I'd like to share my thoughts to them and here.
    First let me start off by saying in the past 12 years of owning a cell phone I have had almost every service provider in my area. (tmobile, at&t, spring, Verizon, & u.s cellular)
    I have had them all and must say that by far Verizon is the WORST service and has the WORST customer service ever. I joined and got a family plan (2 lines) to save money. I started off with a blackberry curve 8530. The first month of service was ok, not great but ok. I decided I was already locked into my contact so I couldn’t get out and I would just stick with it. The phone itself was terrible, locking up, rebooting by itself, things getting scattered all over the place at random and the worst part is that it would always take 5 minutes to boot and drain my battery completely.
    I called and opened up a trouble ticket and I was told from the customer service lady that the phone rebooting itself was very normal and common and more on the blackberry than any other device. Seriously?
    After 3 phone calls in one week they sent me out a new phone. Same blackberry and this one was no better. I called back and after doing more tests they tell me that I have to dial *228 every month and if I drive more than 20miles away.
    I told the customer service rep that I drive 25miles each way to work and asked if I really have to dial *228 twice a day to get good service and they said yes. Well Verizon, I’m glad I am paying you top dollar for this premium service. What kind of crap is this really? More dropped calls happen and I mean happen daily. The customer service rep informed me to start logging my dropped calls by dialing *** talk or ### talk. So I do just that and log almost every dropped call. Next time I call up they said well you need a minimum of 5 dropped calls a week for us to be able to figure out the problem. Really? I had 4 in one week and that wasn’t good enough for them.
    So after more calls I finally get manager approval for them to give me a different phone. I get a refurb Samsung fascinate. While it’s a nice phone and runs 2.1 the software is junk and unstable. Programs have to be force closed, it’s slow and freezes from time to time. And a new problem shows up, sometimes (more so lately than when I first had it) sending out a text message or receiving, it will send or receive 4 of the same messages all at once.
    As if this isn’t enough to make anyone mad, the dropped calls still happen ALL the time. I mean 3 in a matter of 5 minutes. I called up Verizon again and they said they can only see 5 this month. When I looked at my phone record I can clearly see at least 10.
    Is the service that bad it won’t even connect to a log a dropped call which takes 10 seconds? I told the customer service rep that something needs to be done and a trouble ticket is opened. They say they will call me back in 2 days. A week goes by and I never got a call back so I call them. The ticket was closed and the “solution” was to stand outside and make a phone call and not be in doors. I almost flipped my lid!
    As of lately I have called 3/10/11 and got a super nice lady on the phone and she said she insisted she would call me back after 2 days to see how things are going and they will run more tests. Well today is 3/17/11 and I never got a call back so I call Verizon. The first rep told me that someone called me at 2:30pm on 3/13/11 and left a voicemail. I checked my phone records and the only people that called me that day were people in my phone book and nobody called anywhere near 2:30pm. What a liar.
    So I get transferred to tech support and go figure he can’t find my ticket. So he has to open a new again and says he will call me back by Saturday.
    I have asked for a credit, I have asked to waive the cancellation fee. I just want out. The customer service is by far the worst I have ever experienced and the service is just as bad. What kind of solution is to stand outside and make a phone call? I’m at home with windows all around and a skylight. I have no problems at work  with a building with no windows on ground level, but I can’t get reception at home inside or outside.
    But wait there is more. To add fuel to the fire, this phone and software continue to get worse and worse as time goes on. I get a picture message from my brother and open it up, at the top it says it’s from someone that I haven’t messaged in a long time. Weird, so I thought nothing of it and figured maybe it had a hiccup. Nope, get a text message from a friend and open it up and it opens up someone else’s text messages that I haven’t texted in days. I was texting a friend last night and sent him a picture message around 10pm. He never replied, no big deal, my phone beeps at 11:47pm from him. And it was my text message going out 1 hour and 47minutes later and beeps at me like I received something.
    Verizon better do something and do something quick, this is seriously getting old. I spend more time on the phone with them than with people in my phonebook. I have also told all the reps that I use my phone for work and can’t drop calls on my customers or it makes me look bad, and they don’t care.
    Verizon please do something!!!!!

    For the 1st problem, why do you keep switching? Haven't you found a company with coverage that is good enough for you? No company has a signal EVERYWHERE. Have you been switching constantly because you choose to switch or your company forces you to switch? If the latter, you should complain to your company to go with the best service, not to ruin their business by going with substandard service. Additionally, no provider has the best signal EVERYWHERE. If your company is forcing you to switch, maybe you could suggest that they offer more than one provider for business phones. I know my company has contracts with AT&T, Sprint & Verizon. If you are constantly changing because you choose to change, then I would suggest that you pick the best footprint for you and then stick with it. Afterall, you have had them all, so you should know which would be best for you.
    As to the second part, this sounds more like a location problem rather than a phone problem. NO provider has service in ALL locations.

    Does anyone know how to add a preface page at the beginning of the book in ibooks author once the book is written? No matter how I try to add a Preface page, it goes to the end of the book.

    Thanks. I've tried this and apparently the template I'm using is one of those where it doesn't work. I've tried dragging it as well as cutting a pasting but it always travels back to the end of the book. Maybe I can try changing the template temporarily, move the preface page, and then convert back to the original template. I'll experiment a little.

  • X240 complaint - the worst customer service/experience I have ever had

    I may be having the worst customer experience of my life (hopefully). Here is a summary of my tale:
    I am about to enter the final stage of a PhD and start tutoring, so I need a portable laptop.
    I believe that Lenovo is a professional company, which will provide quality laptops and good service. I choose them over dell and apple. 
    February: Buy x240 with 3 year warrenty. 1 month for laptop to arrive. Comes with a Dead pixel near middle of screen.
    March: As permitted by my warranty, I replace hard drive with new working ssd - it fails smart disk test after a few days in laptop

    April: After two new samsung ssds failing (and the third one I bought not having any issues in my desktop) and five installs (and two months wasted) I ring a CSR
    I explain I think I may have an issue with the motherboard. He says, send in the laptop and the SSD and we will replace/fix it. I clarify several times that the HD is not the one I recieved with the laptop. He says it is no issue. I get sent a box and send the laptop in.
    May: A week later I recieve call from CSR (ALVIN) saying that I will need to pay for new hard drive. He obviously doesn't understand my issue at all. I am unwilling to pay unless they send me back my disk so I can get the refund on it. He says he will get back to me. I say I will take a quote as I want to see if it is reasonable.
    After a few days, I call to see what is happening. I am told by ANNE that they will fix my motherboard for free and send me the hard disk back, but charge for the new hard disk put in.
    I get a a quote for $484 charging for courier costs and service. No information as to how it relates to the parts
    I refuse to accept the quote and send an email explaining the issue, and that I need the laptop back asap as I am leaving the country soon.
    I get a message back saying we will send you a new quote. I am also told that they tested the computer and the motherboard is at fault (contradicting what I was told before)
    After a week or so I get a new quote for $484. The issue description has changed and they have screwed up the tax charge. No information as to how the charges relates to the parts being replaced, or what I will even get
    After some more emails I am getting emails, and they won't even put their name on the email, so that I can see who I am talking to (even when I ask)
    '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]' are my case managers but they are impossible to contact, and not very useful
    I find out that I cannot get a rfund on the SSD I sent as it has taken too long for me to claim (I lose $169 that it cost me)
    I buy an Macbook pro with applecare to use as my laptop in future.
    After a few more emails, I ring a CSR, they tell me that there was a mistake with the last quote and I will get a new one.
    Five days later, I call about the issue. I am told that the depot has not got back to them, but that I will get a call the next day and a quote.
    I don't get a call or a quote. I ring again and I am told that some other department is handling it, and that I need to wait.
    I think it has nearly been a month now that they have had the laptop for now, and I have yet to use myself as it has broken every time I set it up. I am just glad I can afford to buy a different brand of computer, otherwise I would pretty screwed as I need my laptop to travel on the 6th of June. 

    Just an update. I still haven't got it back (I leave the country in 4 days) and I asked for it to be returned over a week ago. Sent a email in last week (after calling and being told things would be sorted) Just going to ring up again and ask them what is happening now.

  • 2 problems the FIRST DAY of the purchase!!!! Seems to be the worst choice.

    After several months of deciding whether to go against my parent's advice, I purchased the macbook. I took it home and right away found a problem. The black plastic or whatever material it is pushes/pops in when it is supposed to be sturdy. There is no support under that specific area like there is everywhere else. I call applecare and they tell me to take it back to the store I JUST bought it from. The store says that since it isn't affecting the actual performance they can't do anything about it. What kind of crap is that. I guess they want their customers to purchase their products unsure if the prodcut will have cosmetic damage. If I wanted something like that I would have purchased my macbook on ebay. So after driving all the way out to the retail store and having nothing done I got over it.
    The SECOND DAY my hinge starts squeeking very loudly. I call applecare again. They say they don't know blah blah blah go back to your store. We call the store and they are not sure if they can do anything about it.
    I just want a freaking new laptop. I should not have to spend over $1500 on my macbook and have two things wrong with it right away. I want a new computer. They have some of the worst customer service I have ever dealt wtih. I went against everyones bad opinions with Macs and trusted that I was going to get a great prudoct. Now I am a very unhappy young girl. I had my hopes set on this laptop for several months and now they are crushed because Apple does not know how to deliver a decent product.
    I am taking my laptop in on Friday for the so called "Genius" to take a look at it. Most likely they will just make up some lame excuses and send me home with the same poorly made laptop.
    Does anyone know how to get in touch with some higher management people who can actually do something for me?

    I know exactly what the "black plastic or whatever" you're talking about. I have the same problem. So....I also went back to the Apple Store I got it from and informed them. Turns out ALL of them are like that. Some of them it's a bit harder but I've actually walked around the Apple store with a rep and pushed the bezel part just beside the LCD in on all the MacBooks...and yes they all do that. The bezel part is actually supposed to come off for them to do repairs if there was a problem with your lcd. There's actually a video on youtube.com of someone taking the whole bezel off quite easily.
    As for the squeaking...mine squeaks a little...nothing that I can't stand. It a very minor problem..I'm thinking it'll go away once I open and close the laptop enough times.
    The reason I took my macbook back in the first place was b/c my 'num lock F5' key led doesn't turn on. It's a very minor problem...I'm debating if it's worth the hassle to go all the way back to the store and not have my macbook for two days.
