IChat (AIM) server port change always reverts back to 5190

Hi folks,
I just picked up a new MacBook Pro the yesterday, have Snow Leopard installed, and am trying to get iChat to connect from behind my work firewall. I already have valid settings that work with other AIM clients:
Server: kdc.uas.aol.com
Port: 443
In the iChat settings, I am able to change the server name from the default just fine, but when I go to put port 443 in the field for port, as soon as I click in any other field or go to any other screen, the port number immediately reverts to 5190. Can it not be changed? Is this a known bug? Am I simply doing something wrong?

Humm,
Update. In Ichat 5 the SSL item sometimes has to be preselected and when the new port enter you have to press the Enter/Return key to "set" the port.
SSL can be turned Off afterwards if you want. (I do as the SSL server is less stable)

Cannot save contact changes in outlook, always reverts back to what it was
    before.

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to save the all contacts in Outlook, please follow these steps: -
By default, when you double-click on a contact in Outlook, the new
Contact Card displays for that contact. The Contact Card does not contain all the fields from the full contact editing window that opens when you create a new contact.
    The
Contact Card also displays by default when you search for a contact. You can still open the full contact editing window when editing a contact or when searching for a contact. To switch to your
Contact folder, click the People link at the bottom of the
    Outlook window or press Ctrl+3.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • AIM Server port 443 vs. 5190

Would someone explain to me the value of using AIM Server port 443 over 5190.

    Slightly more.
WE have found here in the various iChat discussions that Zyxels devices in particular do not like port 5190 being used for the TCP login and the UDP file sending and Direct chats (And Buddy List updates)
Most routers that were port forwarded opened port 5190 on both TCP and UDP (In fact any Protocol) and it did not matter.
Nowadays router and modem manufacturers have added the ability to specify Protocols when Forwarding ports.
Historically most Port Forwarding can not be done twice on the same port to different computers.
Unfortunately Forwarding the two protocols tends to require two line s to do so and seems to be seen as Port Forwarding the same port twice.
More recently there is some evidence that the AIM login server on port 5190 is just not coping with the number of AIM clients out there and the Leopard and more recent GoogleTalk addition of the AIM Protocols.
    Summary
Your Modem or Router mat not like it.
The port is below the 1024 threshold
    The default ports is oversubscribed
    Combination of all of these

  • Since I've updated my IMac to Yosemite, my screensaver preferences will not stay on IPhoto, it always reverts back to National  Geographic pictures.  Anyone have this problem?

I have an IMac from early 2009.  I've updated the OS X to Yosemite to 10.10.1 and since I've updated it, my system screensaver preferences WILL allow me to set the screensaver to IPhoto, but after a few minutes, it always reverts back to National Geographic pictures.  I tried putting ALL 18,000 of my pictures into a separate folder and choosing THAT folder for the screensaver, but again - it reverted back to the National Geographic pictures.
Is there any way I can set my screensaver preferences to IPhoto pictures?  Am I missing something?  Thanks for any input or suggestions.

In MacBook Pro, where is the "DONE" button to save my editing changes and revert back to the iphoto library?

If you're using the Adjust editing pane there is no Done button. When you done with the editing just click on the Photos button at the top or use one of the arrows at the top to advance to the next photo.  No done button required.

Why can I no longer set the default page to something else? Every time I open Mozilla Firefox, it always reverts back to the Mozilla page. No matter how many times I do this, it always reverts.

That was it! There was a duplicate preference file in the profile folder. Followed the instructions under "Locked Preferences File" to

Once I deleted it I was able to then save my preferred home page.

SHuffle does not play songs in a truly random fashion.  Like all computer related random generators the sequence is pseudo-random

  • Mailboxes (accounts) in inbox won't stay sorted; always revert back.

Neither my iMac or MacBook Pro will retain the order of the mail accounts. I have about a dozen different mail accounts, and I can drag them to the order I want just fine, but later they are back to the original (non alphabetized) order. They won't stay in the order I place them. I am not talking about messages, but the accounts themselves:
    MAILBOXES
    +-Inbox
    +---mac mail account
    +---otheraccount
    +---gmail account
    +---server account
I can move "gmail account" to top, but it won't stay. It always reverts.
    Any thoughts?

It seems that you likely have a corrupt mail preference.
Sometimes simply rewriting it can fix it.
    Quit Mail.
In Finder Go>Home>Library>Preferences and hold down on the option key while dragging the com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop. This will make a copy of the settings.
Now drag the original preference list to the Trash and move the copy back in its place in the Preferences folder.
    Restart Mail.
As to Signatures the Mail folder in the home Library holds that info.
Remove the files from the folder and start over with the Signatures.
If either of these issues persist then create a new user account on the computer and set up the settings in the new user account to see if the issue is across the system or user specific.
If it is system wide then it is either the Mail application or the system itself creating the issue.
If it is user specific then continue to completely set up Mail as you want in the new user and move the settings from the test user into the Shared folder.
Then log into the affected user and pull those setting from Shared into the user and put them in place in the Library.
Make sure Mail is not running when you put them in place.

  • Open with & Change All revert back to Preview. Can't set Photoshop instead.

To help with analysis of this issue, my system is a G4 PowerMac running OS X Tiger 10.4.11. This issue also involves Photoshop 6.0.1 running in Classic mode.
For my Photoshop files, the default application is no longer set as Photoshop, but instead as Preview. I would like to reset Photoshop as the default application for all files ending with the ".psd" extension. When I right-click (or control-click) on a file ending in a ".psd" extension, select "Get Info", then under "Open with" choose Photoshop, and finally click the "Change All" button, the "Open with" setting reverts back to Preview. I am able to change one file at a time, by selecting Photoshop under "Open with" and by then avoiding clicking on "Change All". Regrettably, it is not feasible to change the settings for every single ".psd" file on the computer in this one-by-one manner.
Does anyone know how to change the default application globally for all ".psd" files to Photoshop, using the command line? I have searched for information on the Internet about the "defaults" command line utility, but have been unable to find an answer in that regard.
Does anyone know of an alternative means by which to resolve this issue?
Thank you for your time and help.
    -John

Thank you for the suggestion, BDAqua. Regrettably, the problem continues to persist. The command at that link did indeed do something because the choices for "Open with" were different. Also, after running the command, Photoshop was not among the default choices, although it could be found after clicking on "Other". This might be shedding light on something. The copy of Photoshop is on a secondary hard drive in order to save space on the main hard drive. Maybe if Photoshop is on the main drive and then the command from the linked page is run, that might solve the issue.
After the opportunity to test that, I plan to post a follow-up message. I must confess that it might be a few days before that happens.
Thank you again for you help, BDAqua.

  • Wallpaper change keeps reverting back to previous paper

Hi everyone. Never been here before and this is my first Mac (Yay!). This might be an easy fix but for whatever the reason i'm just not seeing it. I am the only user and administrater on it. I've repeatedly changed the wallpaper to a new pic (all attempts have been setting it to the same pic) and it changes it for me. The problem comes when i restart or shut down and then start up again, it reverts back to the same previous pic. I've checked that there's no default wallpaper set and there is not. Hoping to get the solution from all of you fellow Mac users here. Here's a presolution Thank You Very Much!

Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?

  • Desktop layout always reverts back to default????

Hello- I'm 5 year FCP user and finally frustrated as to why for 5 years, almost every time I open a saved or recent project, my desktop layout reverts back to the default layout??? I then have to take the time to open up my saved layout and it still doesn't move all the windows back in place, especially the effects window. So frustrating! Any advice on how to correct this???
    Thanks for your help!
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
This has been going on for 5 years? That just might be a record. Not one I'd want to hold, however.
My first thought is that you need to reset the FCP preferences. At least up thru FCS2, whenever FCP starts to act strangely, it's usually due either to a recently installed app or upgrade, or to a FCP preference file gone astray. To reset your FCP prefs, an app that will do the work for you is at http://digitalrebellion.net/pref_man.htm
Or, you can do the same thing manually. A search for "trash preferences" in this forum will eventually lead you to discussions where all the individual steps are listed.
Another possibility is that one or more versions of apps loaded in your Mac are out of sync with each other. All I know about this is what I've read in this FCP forum. It seems that certain combinations of versions of FCP + OS + Quicktime work best together. If an installed version of any of those is too high or too low, then an upgrade or downgrade of the app will fix the problem. The version of QT is usually the first suspect.
In the info below your post, it indicates you're at 10.4, but not which version of FCP or QT you have installed. Perhaps if you post those, someone here who keeps track of version combos can spot if there's a potential problem with your version mix.
In the past 5 years, have you ever started from scratch with a blank hard drive and installed all your apps from the original disks? Whenever I upgrade to a new OS or FCP version, I just pop in a new HD and spend a day shuffling disks. Time consuming, but I believe it leads to far less time wasted down the road with crashes or troubleshooting.
