IE8 support for Automation

Hi,
I am automating a java based application which is difficult to automate using Visual Studio. Anyway I just need to identify a few controls only in that application which itself is not possible even.
When I try to use the crosshair it is showing the below warning.
"Testing Internet Explorer in 64 bit is only supported in Windows 8"
So if I downgrade my current IE 8 64 bit to 32, will it work? (I tried in good but its difficult to get IE8 32 bit)
Or do I need to try the same in Windows 8?
Is there any other way to make my crosshair to identify the controls in the application? (As i quoted before its a completely java based application and it is not even identifying any single control)

Hi Rana Tripura,
Not very sure that which VS version you were using, but the real issue is that we would check the "Supported Configurations and Platforms for Coded UI Tests and Action Recordings" here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd380742(v=vs.120).aspx (For VS2010)
For example:
Flash/Java: Not supported.
So it is the Java app, I'm afraid that it has this limitation now.
>>"Testing Internet Explorer in 64 bit is only supported in Windows 8"
Our members also meet this kind of issue before:

  • IE8 Support for Siebel Analytics 7.8.5

    Hi Experts,
Currently my company has given me the task to check the issues of IE8 support for Siebel Analytics as they are trying to upgrade IE6 to IE8.
So I have the following queries:
    1. Will Siebel Analytics 7.8.5 supports IE8?
    2. If not, then is there any patch available for 7.8.5 version to support IE8?
    3. What are the other options there might be?
Please let me know your inputs.

  • Lack of Office 365 (local instal) COM Automation support - need a definitive list of the versions and their support for automation.

I develop an application that does some PowerPoint automation using embedded interop types (C# App - with VB assembly that does the office automation part)
I've started to get reports that the PowerPoint automation is failing on Office 365.
Here is a sample of a typical customer complaint:
    not exporting to powerpoint...
We recently migrated from Office2007 to O365. That would be definitely the reason.
But how can we solve this?
I found the following reply to a forum question:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/3c95eea4-641f-4bf0-a166-ecf33177854b/does-desktop-versions-of-applications-in-office-365-packages-support-comautomation?forum=exceldev
But it only states that one version doesn't - and then one version does - doesn't reference a list of all support versions.
Also - later - in that thread - it is shown that the accepted answer is actually incorrect.
A sample of the type of code used to interact is shown here....
Public Function PositionSlideTitle(ByVal slide As PowerPoint.Slide, ByVal height As Single, ByVal marginX As Single, ByVal marginY As Single) As PowerPoint.Shape
            Dim shapes As PowerPoint.Shapes
            Dim shape As PowerPoint.Shape
' get the shapes on the slide
            shapes = slide.Shapes
' get the shape that holds the title
' if the shapes collection has a title, then this title shape is always in index 1
            If shapes.HasTitle = Office.MsoTriState.msoTrue Then
' the title shape can also be accessed by the special property Title
                shape = shapes.Title
            Else
' If there was no title - then add one
                shape = shapes.AddTitle()
            End If
' position the shape at 0,0 (seems not to want to go there)
            shape.Left = marginX
            shape.Top = marginY
' stretch image to fit slide
            shape.Width = slide.Master.Width - (marginX * 2)
            shape.Height = height
            Return shape
        End Function
The project references Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint, version 11.0.0.0 with it's "Embed Interop Types" set to true.
This has worked for 10+ years, with all versions of office from Office 2003.  We still need the application to support Office 2003 - and it still does perfectly, so referencing newer PIA's isn't an option.
    Please help.

Great to know that all versions of Office Support Com Automation.
Because the end-users that have made the complaint - are using Office 365 - it wouldn't be the Click2Run edition as you've mentioned - but it's good to know that information, as I wasn't aware there was a possible issue with that - thanks.
I'll just assume then that the end user that sent the following issue is running them with different permission level:
    not exporting to powerpoint...
We recently migrated from Office2007 to O365. That would be definitely the reason.
But how can we solve this?
Although - one more thought - I read somewhere that O365 users can install office via the O365 portal - I wonder whether this is the same as Click2Run install - and hence causing the same out-of-process application error you have referred to?
    Kind Regards
    UPDATE:
Further reading/searching on click-to-run and O365 found the following:
I can't paste links in this forum, but:
    technet microsoft com "en-us/library/jj219427.aspx"
Eugene - you may be onto something with the click-to-run issue - that may be the cause of the error in O365 installations - At least now I have a scenario to test against (user info is always difficult to determine exactly how to replicate issues) - Cheers.

  • IE8 Support for WebDynrpo Java

Hi, We are on EP6 and i read in SAP Notes that the Support Pack Level is 25 for IE8 Support (in non-compatability mode), but I can only see a support pack to patch level 24 in service.sap.com.
Does anyone know if SP25 for EP6 is out yet? or if not, then when it is likely to be released?
    regards,

I was aware that SP 23 was already out in the beginning of this year and as per your information SP 24 is also available now.  SP 25 is surely not out yet.
Just keep checking the PAM it would be updated as soon as the new SP is released. Not sure but I don't think you'll have to wait too long

  • IE8 Support for Xcelsius 2008

  • Pound sign (#) not supported for automated dial

    Hi,
I need to automate calling to IVR systems. I can add arbitrary pause and extension number like:
    [NSURL URLWithString: @"tel:1112223333,1,1,1234"]
The problem is, when I add "#" sign at the end as requested by the IVR, the URL call doesn't work.
I saw a few complaints about this issue in the discussion, but I need to confirm before giving up
this critical feature in my application.
I know that iPhone native "Contacts" application supports "#" and "*" signs in the dial number.
    So, what I tried is:
    (1) set up an entry in the Address Book,
    (2) call "ABPersonViewController" with the Address Book record in my application and
    (3) let user click the button to initiate the call
I believe, this is the same function as "Contacts" application calls, but unfortunately, it didn't work. When I add "#" anywhere in the number, the button fails to initiate a call.
I thought, this might be due to some kind of privilege protection (support "#" only for iPhone native applications???).
Or am I missing some secret sauce for handing these special characters?
    Any comment will be appreciated.

Just checked and it works fine, so this is an X problem.

  • CUP support for Automated Approval via web service

Wanted to know if a stage in a workflow defined in CUP can be defined that invokes a custom web service that returns an approval indicator. All the web services I've seen in GRC are at predetermined points or prebuilt integration sections. We need the ability for a custom web service to be invoked when this stage is encountered in the request workflow. If the web service return true, then the stage would be deemed approved and move onto the next state. Out hope is to automate the approval process so that a user does not need to approve the stage themselves. thanks in advance.

    Hi Brian,
The webservices defined normally interact with the other GRC components. I've not seen the approval workflow interact with custom webservices.
It would probably involve fairly in depth customisation of the java services and code.
I thnk that the CUP workflow is pretty much self contained and therefore can only read approvals from it's own engine.

  • Extended Support For Siebel 7.8 post June 2013

    Hello All,
Considering siebel 7.8 is retiring this year, what are the support options available post retirement. One of our client wants to replace siebel with another tool and have used very limited support in past from oracle. What do you think is the best solution during this transition phase of switching from Siebel to another tool.
Basically, I am looking for cost efficient and limited support options.

  • Coded UI automation support for MIcrosoft Dynamic CRM 2013

    Hi,
I have been checking for a UI automation tool for Microsoft Dynamic CRM 2013. Even though it is mentioned as coded UI fully supports Dynamic CRM, I was not able to automate CRM with VS2013, VS2015 Preview. Please reply if you have any workaround to make
it possible to automate UI testing of CRM 2013 using coded UI.
    Regards,
    Vinu chandran.

    Hi Vinu,
    According to your description,
could you please tell me what version of VS you use to test your coded UI test?
In addition, I did some search and don’t find any information about CRM2013 support for Coded UI test.
    Based on this article:
Supported Configurations and Platforms for Coded UI Tests and Action
Recordings, Dynamics CRM web client is fully supported. Even though I am not sure whether it includes CRM2013, I suggest you should use VS to drag the crosshair
on the control to check the control can be identified by Coded UI Test.
In addition, since the issue is related to the Microsoft Dynamic CRM, I suggest you can ask the issue to
    Microsoft Dynamic
CRM forum, may be you will get better support.
As you said that you are not able to automate coded UI test with VS2015 Preview, because VS2015 Preview is still a preview version
instead of final released version, I suggest that you should submit this feedback to Microsoft Connect feedback portal:
    http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/CreateFeedback.aspx,
Microsoft engineers will evaluate them seriously.
After you submit the feedback, you can post the link here which will be beneficial for other members with the
    similar issue.

  • Dropping support for Internet Explorer 8,  and  Firefox 20.x or below

Starting April 30th, we will discontinue support for all Internet Explorer 8 versions and all Firefox 20 versions and below. In order to continue using Business Catalyst Admin user interface without problems, you and your clients need to upgrade to a more recent browser:
    Download Internet Explorer
    Download Safari
    Download Chrome
    Download Firefox

    Thanks for your reply Shay.
We plan to officially support IE8 with the next patch release to JDeveloper 11g - currently planned for later this year. That matches what I wrote in my initial post in this forum thread about IE8 support.
We usually only certify browsers after they officially go production. That does not really answer my question (q1) in this forum thread.
It is more like, how can I assess that Oracle will support any successor(s) of IE8 or successor(s) of any currently supported browsers for ADF 11g applications in the future? How long will Oracle support "commonly used browsers" for an ADF 11g application I build today, so how long will I be able to use that application?
How do I answer such questions for ADF 11g applications that should be deployed on the internet (where, as some extranet environments, you typically have not that much (or no) control over which browsers your users use ... although some would like to argue with that, see forum thread "ADF Faces RC browser support and browser market share")?
(By the way, do you have any feedback for the forum thread "ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8"?)
    regards

  • Support for Old Vibrating Sample Magnetometers

    Hello.
I am a relative newcomer to LabView and I am trying to get some support for a few older Vibrating Sample Magnetometers (VSM) on behalf of my employer.  These machines are quite old and, although they have GPIB connectivity, I am having difficulty in being able to control them using LabView.  Although they use the IEEE-488 GPIB standard, they were built before the introduction of the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI), rather than the newer 488.2 standard.  As such, they work with their own proprietary commands, which are proving impossible to find.  I have a working LabView program that was written by a university student for a master's degree in physics.  However, I cannot communicate with the individual components, such as the gaussmeter, power supply, etc, using measurement and automation explorer.  They don't even respond to an "*IDN?" query without timing out, which I thought was standard.  I have tried lengthening the timeout time and tried to use drivers for similar instruments.  My question to anyone out there is, do you have the drivers or the programming manual for any of the components listed below?  The Vibrating Sample Magnetometers were built by the now defunct DMS/ADE.  The current owners of DMS/ADE can offer little support for such old equipment.  Likewise, is there something else I can try in lieu of these drivers and commands?
Devices:  1.) DMS Model 1660 VSM, 2.) DMS/ADE VSM Model 4, which includes the DMS/ADE model 32KP gaussmeter with its own GPIB port.
    Thank you for your time,
    Liam

    Hi Liam,
As per GPIB 488.2, as I already mentioned, the ibEOSchar under Ibconfig is an 8 bit value so it will take value from 0 to 255 for which 3 number width is sufficient. Measurement and Automation Explorer also works in the same way. EOS byte value under Termination Settings section of GPIB settings accepts a decimal number from 0 to 255 and it will not allow any character and also value more than 255 as its field is limited to 3 numbers and even if you enter a value more than 255, it will be automatically changes to 255.
So, As per 488.2, You cannot give both carriage return and linefeed characters together and you cannot use the same in MAX also.
Try framing your entire command with EOS as per built in LabVIEW carriage return and linefeed functions and use GPIB Write.vi to send this entire frame. It may work.
Also, I would like to see your VSM's communication manual and understand how these commands have been implemented.
Coming to IBEOS command, its easily understandable and its used to Configure the end-of-string (EOS) termination mode or character. It have low byte and high byte.
Low byte is always an 8 bit EOS character and high byte can take three forms which are A, B and C. Also High byte can have values with combination of A,B or C.
For Example, ibeos (ud, 0x140A); means, Configure the software to end reads on newline character (hex 0A) for the unit descriptor. Here high byte is a combination of A and C where as low byte is the HEX equivalent of ASCII Line feed character.

    Dear Mr. X,
    We appreciate your prompt reply.
We will be noting for concern as a feedback. However, please be informed Mr. Tan that Nokia has noted in the box regarding the said case.
The outage experienced by our sub-supplier was quite unexpected. Typically, the lead time for components such as this one is fairly long, and one cannot react to sudden changes at short notice. We value our relationship with our suppliers and sub-suppliers, and know that our sub-supplier is doing everything in their power to remedy the situation and return to regular supply.
The lack of TV out should not affect any other device functionalities besides that you will not be able to show/transmit pictures or video to external monitor/screen.
As Nokia does not have a replacement policy, we suggest to check with your dealer if they have a policy regarding exchanges.

    Dear NOKIA CARELINE,
Yap, you can tell me leaflet included & a tiny label on the pack box. But who will really check every single area of the pack box & read the whole manual or leaflet when they decided to buy the phone. What normally customer will check is the handphone and the accessories. Now you are telling me that customer have to check everything even they  buy something from a reputable company like Nokia. If I going in a shop that sell a China like Nokia 5800 handphone and I bought it then I won't have a say here at all.
I have checked with my retailer they allow me to return the unit but I can't get full refund from them. They are going deduct a couple of hundred cause they said the unit is considered used unit now. According to them instead of asking customer to wait they prefer to refund the customer. So who is going to bear for the cost now.
I certainly frustrated by getting a unit that without TV out function. If you are telling me that once manufactured the feature could not be added in, then I would say if you do have a unit with TV-out feature now you could exchange directly to your customer. Why still ask your loyal customer like me to refer to dealer or retailer. Is that what you mean after sales service or NOKIA CARELINE. You don't even care in the first place.
Your apologies certainly couldn't be accepted with reason of Nokia did include leaflet to inform and tiny sticker at the bottom of the pack box. Sound irresponsible to me at all.
What I wanna your care now, that is pls exchange a unit with TV-out feature with mine in which without such feature. Do I really put the CARELINE into difficulty position. Your reply to me is highly appreciated and also to show that you care or don't care.

    Dear Mr. X,
Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
    Greetings!
In response to your inquiry, please be informed Mr. Tan that due to a component shortage, a limited number of Nokia 5800 Xpress Music has been manufactured without the TV-out functionality. It is possible that you have one of these devices. In that case, the sales package should have a sticker on the package and a leaflet inside the package that inform about the lack of TV-out functionality. Also, the TV-out cable has been removed from the affected sales packages.
Kindly take note Mr. Tan that it is not possible to add the feature after the device has been manufactured. Therefore we have labeled the affected sales packages with a sticker and included a leflet that inform about the lack of TV-out functionality. Those individuals who wish to have the TV-out functionality should wait for a sales package that that has it again.
The new batch of phones should have the feature back. As this matter is clearly stated in the sales package, it is not possible to return to Nokia. However, you may check with your dealer if they have a policy regarding the return of the unit in exchange for a version that has the TV-out feature. Those individuals who wish to have the TV-out functionality should wait for a sales package that that has it again.
    Apologies for any inconvenience.

    Log Message:
Enabling initial support for colorTransform in GraphicElement.
    Bugs: MXMLG-241
    Check-in Tests: Pass
    Reviewer: Chet, Ryan, Jason
    QA: Yes
    Ticket Links:
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/MXMLG-241
    Modified Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/frameworks/projects/flex4/src/mx/graphics/graphicsClasses/GraphicElement.a s

I guess GraphicElement will never support automation, at least by the time of Flex 4 release.
During my tests with GraphicElement extending IAutomationObject interface, I've just hit RTE coming from closed-source mx.automation.AutomationManager class requesting the automated UI control to implement IUIComponent interface, and obviuosly GraphicElement class does not implement this interface
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert GraphicElementAutomation@7b10e19 to mx.core.IUIComponent.

  • CSS3 support for older browsers

It's pretty clear now that CSS3 is a Rubicon for web browsers and that either the browser is capable of interpreting the rules or it is not. Having said that, is there a "patch" of some sort that can be painlessly added to the CSS to allow support for, say, IE8?

I'm with Mark.  Build to the level of your main target audience -- not the fewer than 5% who insist on using outdated browsers.
I have experimented with PIE and other so called "workaround" scripts for IE with less than stellar results.  Also , IE Filters have some nasty side effects -- like disabling clearType which makes text look really terrible.  I  view these "workarounds" as mainly counterproductive.
Going forward, I'm adding an IE8 End Of Life message inside a conditional comment in all my projects now.  That way people know up front that their browser sucks.  The ball is then in their court whether or not to do anything about it.
We still have an XP computer at home that hubby doesn't want to part with.  So  the only IE browsers he can use are 7 & 8.  That said, his favorite browsers are the latest versions of FF and Chrome which he uses regularly on XP.  Just because some people have an older operating system doesn't necessarily mean they have to use inferior browsers.
Unless it's adversely effecting your content or usability, I don't think you should do cartwheels to support the few remaining IE7 and IE8 users.  It's better for everyone if we ween them off the bad browsers as soon we can.
